This place might be the closest thing to heaven in this devilish town! Wow. Cheesemonger Chris was incredibly patient with me and my best friend as we made our important decision on two hard cheeses and two soft. We were allowed little samples of things which was awesome so we werent making our choices kind of blindly. We settled on four great cheeses and I suggest you check out their pictures/descriptions below! They were truly phenomenal but I think our top pick was the Shropshire Blue cheese. We also purchased a nice dry rosé and some bread and crackers to enjoy with our cheese. I was drooling over their impressive meat area but strayed away because my bestie is a vegetarian (will have to return back and check that out). Such a pleasant experience!

We’ve been going to the Cheese Shop of Salem since 2019 for wine, cheese, and wine tastings. We’ve developed a relationship with Susan and Molly as they have the best recommendations for wine (and do the best wine tasting events). So naturally, they were our first choice when looking for wine for our wedding. It was the best decision we made. Susan and Molly set up a private wine tasting and providing us with a variety of wines for us to taste to pick for the wedding. They helped us select and even gave us additional ideas and wines to try. They provided a full package service - storing the wine ahead of time and delivering it to us. We had some wine aficionados at the wedding and NOBODY was disappointed. People even tried wine they had never heard of before! So if you’re looking for wine for yourself or for a party, the Cheese Shop of Salem (and Susan and Molly!) will not steer you wrong.

I was so excited to find this little gem of Salem. Very disappointed that Tuesday and Wednesday most of the shops are closed and of course those are the days we were there BUT this little gem was open. The service was wonderful The folks that waited on us were wonderful and very knowledgeable, and very informative and it was just a really fun time! Thank you for making the ending of a short trip so perfect!!

We love the cheese shop! They are so friendly and helpful. There is such an array of products here, you really cant go wrong.They also make fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, and deliver out of state.If you are worried about shopping, do it online or call. Theyll have it ready for pickup!

I love this store. They know (and love) their cheese! Thank you for helping me make what could have been a dreary birthday in isolation into a tasty and wonderful afternoon.I called during the covid crisis in early April with some vague notion of wanting to throw a cheese picnic birthday party for my partner. Being a cheese novice I had no idea what to get. The person that answered my call was patient and spent at least a half hour on the phone describing all sorts of cheeses and helped me pick out a few cheeses and other items like crackers, mustard, cured meat, peppers and pickles. The cheeses selected were spot on and the portions were perfect for 2 people and we even had a little leftover to experiment with in our dinner. The pick up was easy and quick.

Such a great selection of amazing cheeses! Really nice selection of wine, crackers and some hard to find bitters.Also the staff is super nice and you get samples if you want to taste before buying.

Lots of selection and super friendly staff. I had a ton of camping gear on me, but I felt welcome and didnt feel judged. Products are pretty pricey, but its because a lot of it is either local or imported. A great spot for European products like stroopwafels and gnocchi.

As soon as you walk in all you can smell are the amazing cheeses they have! Like that you can sample before buying and they also have charcuterie- perfect for those like me who can eat a cheese board like every day for a meal. They also sell wines, crackers,pastas and various sauces. I cant wait to comeback and explore more of what I can find here. Definitely check it out if youre in town!

This is one of the gems just North of Boston. We took the opportunity to treat ourselves to holiday mini-cheese platters and I am so glad that we did. A little bit of Europe for our snacking. Paired it with a lovely French white wine and viola! In this difficult year just trying to make magic happen locally supporting all our local providers of goods and services. As a business owner I know 2020 has been tough and supporting our local merchants is a must. We love you Salem, MA and we love The Cheese Shop of Salems team.

This place is a must see. The samples are amazing and there is so much cheese to choose from. There is also a variety of wine and spreads. The meats are also amazing and you can ask for samples. So, if you can, I would say take a visit to this cheese shop. Would recommend.

This place rules. I showed up with a plan for cheese, but no plan for wine -- well, my plan was to walk around the shop and pick two summer-worthy reds. They have a legit unmatched selection of cheese and wine for the area. One of my favorite shopping experiences in all of Boston/North of Boston is walking around this shop. As soon as I saw the white tent + tables set up in front of the entry doors I knew I wasnt going to be let in.My hopes for finding the right wine sunk temporarily but Molly (I think that was her name!) who is a wine specialist there. She absolutely nailed it. Came home with an Italian red I hadnt tried from a producer I know well and it was a 10 out of 10 for a summer day (Clare JC from Vajra, if youre curious). Trust, earned!Also, the AUSSIE MAGIC cheese is a must try.The Cheese Shop of Salem is top notch. Go today...or tomorrow if its after hours.

Ive noticed that a lot of the original staff are still there. This makes me happy. This tells me what you kind of suspect when you walk in? Its a GREAT place to work / be. It always smells yummy, and they have an okay selection of wine. The Wine Emporium is better for that - but their cheese game is SO very strong. I dont want to publicly admit how much we spend there weekly.

Great experience so far. The store is small, however, they have an amazing selection of cheese. Which is even awesome, since you can try all of them if you want, before buying.Different flavors and textures, hard to choose.Staff is great. No visit to Salem is complete without a visit to The Cheese Shop. Need convincing? They have about 15 varieties of blue cheese alone! Every person is like Wallace (but not Gromit) with their product knowledge. You’ll also fine beer and wine, crackers and treats.

My aunt and I had a really fun time poking around in here. Great selection cheeses to sample. Lots of wine too, and as I am not a wine drinker it was really nice to have someone help me pick out a bottle for my mom. Great shop. Friendly, knowledgeable, and professional staff. Awesome place period

This is the place to come for great cheese sausage and wine (and other things). A wonderful old style shop with a very friendly and helpful staff. I asked one of them for an obscure, hard to find wine and was expecting to be told they didnt know of it or didnt have it. She produced two bottles without any hesitation. I am impressed. The prices here are a little on the high side but arent you worth it once in a while? Go in and taste. Youll like it.

This is one of my favorite places ever. They will help you new things! You can taste before you buy. They will even save you receipts on a card so they can keep track of your purchases and help you make selections or offer suggestions from you past purchases. Its a great shop and rhe entire staff is knowledgeable and engaging.

The owner was a wonderful and inviting man and extremely knowledgeable about his cheeses. I am lactose intolerant and was able to find multiple cheeses that I was able to enjoy for the first time in years! Thanks for restoring my love of cheese, I’ll be back soon!!!

Want really my cup of tea. The had some expensive cheeses I had never heard of let alone been able to pronounce. I maybe would have bought something had I brb able to try it first and if I was able to store it someplace cool. Walking around Boston sightseeing in 90 degree weather while carrying cheese isnt very ideal.

They were super nice and helpful. They taught us about the different cheeses they sold, and let us taste test them too. They have a huge selection of items to sell, and a ton of local products. Would definitely go here again.

I live in New Hampshire 1 hour and 15 minutes away, but I enjoy traveling to this shop. I am always greeted with a smile and friendly service like you would get from a small town grocer in the Early 70s. They want to tell you about the items they have and make you excited to try what they have. In have went 3 times since they have opened and leave with a smile on my face. There are several other cheese shops I pass to go to the Cheese Shop of Salem. but none compare to the customer service I get here. They have a great variety of cheeses, wines, and unique grocery items.

One of the few cheese shoppes Ive seen that lists what kind of rennet base their cheeses are (animal, vegetable, microbial, etc). They have a staggering array of cheeses from around the world! If youre nice, they may just let you try a slice, though I do recommend you buy yourself some fancy cheese!

Excellent selection, knowledgable staff, and boy do they move fast! We went in the day before Thanksgiving and I couldnt believe how quickly they helped customers with their shopping and took care of the cheese cutting, wrapping and replacing it so fast, all with a smile! I want to go back and eat everything they have.

A cheese haven. I cannot overstate how friendly and helpful the staff were. I know next to nothing about cheese, the staff was more than happy to let you sample and make recommendations based off what you like. We got a great recommendation on wine and they helped us pick a few cheeses to pair with it. They were also very accommodating of ny inlaws, who have some difficulty walking around. They found them chairs while we browsed and hooked them up with rose flavored pink lemonade which was great. Try the Red Witch cheese!
