This place is an unexpected tea paradise. My friend suggested it for a coffee date. I had no idea that they also have a wonderful selection of imported teas- mainly Chinese if I remember correctly (green, red, black, white.) I got a cedar red tea, which was so delicious. Since I got a to-go cup, the owner offered me the tea leaves in another cup to take home. I have enjoyed 4 more steepings of those same leaves, all flavorful and calming. The brick and mortar shop is open until September, but after that their teas will still be available online.
I just went there today. I love coffee and I make a point to try a new coffee shop weekly here in Los Angeles. The staff is very professional, well informed and clearly loved by customers. There’s so many unique coffee options here which makes this place very unique. The ambiance for the location is also nice. Clean and inviting place to do some work for sure. I will definitely come back. If you want a small business to support, definitely come here. Not to mention, this area itself is great to walk around and enjoy some sunshine in. Cheers.
If theres a more zen and esoteric fine tea/coffee place within a hundred miles of the ocean, I havent found it.Forget the gorgeous ocean weather outside, and move inward for a science experiment using the finest teas and coffees... Honestly, just get a pot of rare white or green/oolong tea and sit for an hour. Youll get the buzz, the spiritual feel and move on with your day.Its honestly just a fantastic place to go! And see the tree table. Its beautiful!
A wonderfully designed coffee shop where you can tell how much love and experience has gone into each and every cup. They aim to create exceptional coffee experiences by giving diverse flavors and smells. It relaxes and soothes my mind, which is why I appreciate it so much. If you enjoy reading novels, they have pocketbooks. Fantastic assistance!
Lots of love they put in making these soufflé pancakes! Never have the pancakes ever felt lonely since they are accompanied by flowers & petals, berries and nuts. Its every girls dream receiving a mystical garden on a plate next to pulling the ribbon out of a Tiffanys box.
The pizza crust was very flavorful. Got the prosciutto Bianco and the goat cheese was also very good and plentiful.Got the duvel beer and it was goodService www just ok. Nothing super spectacular. The garlic knots with pesto sauce was good.
This is without a doubt the largest coffee shop, although there are many more! The coffee shop has a wide range of seasonal fare, and the cuisine is wonderful for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All of this is backed up by a nice and helpful workforce. We were able to use this site frequently during our trip because it was near to our hotel.
After visiting many cafes in LA, I honestly think this is the best cafe in the Los Angeles area. Great place to study, chat, or just hang out (in a rather quiet and respectful manner). I would recommend their iced coffees for sure. Cheers ☕️
We made a reservation beforehand so we didnt wait long to be seated on a Friday night. The service was great and our waitress was very friendly. We were seated on a very small table that only fit 2 people. We ordered the popcorn chicken, super creamy ddukboki, and the budae jungol. The popcorn chicken was AMAZING (10/10). A must try at this restaurant. The ddukboki was also delicious and were shaped in mini round bow-ties. Ive personally had better budae jungol but it was great too.
Amazing place! If you really like tea go here to fall in love with it. They brew a proper cup as it should taste in all its glory. Staff is very friendly and they even have vegan treats available.
Great specialty coffee and CBD coffee also.
The people care about their craft and it shows in the quality of their product. Tons of bean selection and a cool vibe inside. Definitely recommended to stop in.
I’ve lived around the corner from here for almost a year, and due to COVID just went in for a visit for the first time. Wow. EXCELLENT coffee. The owner was SO knowledgeable, and the variety of teas and beans are incredible. It’s like art watching them make the coffee with the siphons. Definitely going to be a frequent flyer.
This isnt just a place to get coffee- this is an experience, if you are open to it. I encourage you to sit at the counter and watch them make your siphoned coffee. Ive never seen anything like it. The owners are lovely and full of great info and are happy to talk to you about their beans, farming, history...etc.Their menu is a bit daunting, and their prices are not cheap, but dont be intimidated. Just enjoy! Its worth it.PS- I didnt have a chance to try any this time, but they are just as passionate and knowledgeable about their incredible tea selections. Cant wait to go back for tea!
Great spot and an exciting addition to the neighborhood. I got the palm blend - a tasty shake/smoothie with dates, soy milk and banana. My friend got the flat white, which was also good. Their espresso is not going to blow your mind, but its definitely solid. Worth supporting this spot if youre in the neighborhood in need of a healthy snack or a caffeine hit. We posted up at one of their tables - there are two, plus a small bar area, all with outlet access - for a couple hours to work on a Saturday afternoon. Ill be back!
I love everything in your coffee shop! Cakes, coffee, and tea. I have been visiting your shop many times, but still, you didnt fail to change my impressions about your excellent services, guys. Your staff was also very friendly and professional. Thanks a lot for such a wonderful service. I will really recommend you to everyone!
The owner is amazing! She runs this place along with her partner for 15 years!Amazing choice of tea drinks! My fav is honeybosh (w almond milk, $7, smooth and sweet, perfect for rainy days and cozy evenings). Also, try ceremonial matcha and earl grey. Moreover, you can ask the owner to find rare sorts if tea and make you favorite drinks at home!
Worth every cent. Great coffee, great service.
Had a great lunch here last week. First time there. It was clean and organized. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Some sunny spots and a covered area. Menu had a good variety. I ordered a Cobb salad. It had fresh ingredients and was larger than I expected. Was very good. Coffee refills are a dollar. (Thats the only negative I could find) Cant wait to go back!! Definitely recommend.
Highly recommend! Funnel Mill has gone above and beyond to ensure their customers are safe during COVID -- theyve provided UV lights at the entrance to sanitize your belongings and create a clean environment. Plus, they have a variety of high-quality coffees.
I have been meaning to check this place out for a while based on reviews, and I have to admit the prices scared me off a little (dont want to get addicted to an expensive taste). I am Glad I did. The coffee and teas are truly gourmet and exotic, not to mention tasty. The portions in themselves make the drinks worth the prices. My coffee came in a very large glass with choice of milk and sugar on the side. My friend got a chai latte, and the pot served 3 full glasses. Not to mention, we both agree it was some of the best coffee/tea wed ever had. Icing on top is that it is all served to you at your table by the barista, along with a cup of water. The ambiance is super cute with comfy chairs, tables, and outlets everywhere. Great place to do work. Ill be back.
From a pure coffee standpoint this might be the best coffee shop in LA and I’ve been to most of the big name ones between downtown LA and Venice. There’s like 2-3 pages of different coffees from all over the world, each having a colorful description of the aroma, something I’ve honestly never seen before. Pretty cozy place to chill at as well.
This place is SO cute!! Its beautifully decorated inside, and if nothing else, I cannot wait for post-pandemic life so I cant enjoy my treats on their adorable patio with my dog!The owner Jesse was so nice and if you can believe it he cooked our entire order right there in front of us. We had the Frijoles & avocado toast, mocha, iced horchata latte and egg and cheese bagel. DIVINE!!
Oakland is generally a great place to find awesome and fun coffee shops... this place was pretty great. The only reason for a not 5 star is they charge for a while drink ($3.65 or something like that) just to add a shot to your drink, which is a bit crazy to me.
I ordered an iced mocha and it had a very rich cacao flavor mixed with high quality espresso. It wasnt sweet- which is awesome because I am not usually a fan of sweet drinks- but there are sweeteners available depending on which way your sugar proclivities lean. I used their maple syrup to sweeten my nieces mocha and it was delicious! My sister got a hot latte and it was one of the best coffees Ive ever tasted.
An excellent spot for coffee or tea lovers. The quality is quite good, so it’s worth the price. $10 minimum on cards FYI. Comfy chairs to study or relax in. Will definitely be back.
Now, you cant drink in the café in a relaxed manner, but I love it here.
I love this place. I found a perfect spot to do my homework and study. Very laid back and the employees are so nice.I especially love their Vanilla Latte.
A haven for coffee and tea drinkers! Funnel Mill is the only Coffee House in town that really understand the idea of taking time, really taking time, to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. First in the top quality of their coffee/tea, perfectly roasted and/or brewed. They make sure its exactly as you want it, and that every sip is not only to your taste, but beyond delicious. And second, in the ambience, which goes that extra mile to make sure the time youre giving to this coffee/tea is relaxing and uninterrupted. No cellphone conversations, no loud music. The only sounds, outside of conversations, is soft classical and, yes, a little running water from their fountains. This is a tea/coffee retreat. There is even an area with big, cushy armchairs just right for reading, and a pair of rocking chairs where two people can chat. Each table, for two or four, is distant enough from the others to create a feeling of privacy. The friendly staff, while solicitous, is also quiet, never intruding as they deliver your drink or anything else you might require. At Funnel Mill, time stands still, allowing you to work, read, reflect or converse in peace. And to remember what a coffee/tea break really means.
Innovative - perfect tasting coffee on the menu. Friendly folks serving you with a smile. Loved it!
Great Latte and a relaxing place to come after a stressful day doing whatever you do. Highly recommend to anyone in the area, also a really cool spot to be seen.
The service was friendly, and it was nice seeing regulars stop by to pick up their drinks.
As a coffee purist, this place checks out. Gives Philz a run for their money. Plus they’re a more ‘hidden’ gem so there’s often seating available. Staff is friendly but there are strict rules inside, so you better be on your best behavior!
I was early for a car oil change and found this coffee shop. I ordered a latte and sugarless apple pie. The apple pie leaped over my expectations. The crust was soft. The apples where perfect. I didnt expect the great taste from a sugarless apple pie. The latte was perfect. Smooth. Great taste. I havent had this quality since my visit to Italy. The smell in the coffee shop is phenomenal. Even if you dont drink coffee, stop by and take a smell and have a tea next to the waterfall. So calming. Great place to work and/or relax.
The baristas are always friendly and offer great recommendations. If the entry room is full, the courtyard outside has plenty of tables and heat lamps, and behind the courtyard are a collection of armchairs and couches. Yum!
This tiny place has it all. Great coffee, service, and really good pastries. You know those jokes about how vegans always tell you theyre vegan. Well, I dont think thats true and timeless proves it. They dont actually advertise it much, its just what they are and everything is delicious anyway.
Great selection of different roasts and origin of coffee, friendly and helpful staff, entrance has a UV tent to disinfect, will definitely return.
Love this place! The environment, the eclectic variety of teas, the owners! Super fabulous bunch.
JC and Theresa take so much pride in their work that it makes me wonder why people go anywhere else for coffee or tea in Santa Monica. They took the time to tell me about their company and explain their process, and connect with their customers on a human level. Ill be back for sure.
These guys are serious about coffee. Its always a sight to see them make your coffee beverages. Also a good selection of teas. Its a great place to have a casual meeting, do some reading or catch up with friends. Support this local business!
I heart Funnel Mill. They really know how to make excellent drinks of all kinds. From hot chocolate to milk tea to proper Japanese and Chinese tea served ceremoniously with small cups. They take it seriously! They are dedicated to the quality of their product and it shows. I also love that the tip basket is just donations to animal welfare. This place is very special and I love it.
Awesome place. Exotic coffee brewed to order using the syphon method. Their iced coffee actually has coffee ice cubes. Stop by and get a great brew
So far I have tried a bunch of their desserts, my favorite is the Tiramisu. Its way too sweet so I can never finish a whole slice but the overall flavor is good which is why I love it still.
This is my favorite coffee shop in LA. It’s has pros and cons though. The coffee is flat out amazing, the barista is pretty good but when using plant milk they slightly burn the milk as opposed to using something like whole milk. Staff are incredibly friendly and fantastic to work with, they bring you a palate cleanser before you drink your coffee which allows you to really enjoy it. In terms of quality + service 10/10. My only complaint really is Ambiance and seating. The inside is a bit uncomfortable, there are two seating areas one it’s nicer chairs and the other with stools and a wooden table. They are ok, the inside walls are also Barren and the place feels empty and lifeless. However, I grade things according to 4 categories, quality, service, value, and ambiance. The first 3 are top notch, the last is horrid but regardless this is my favorite cup of coffee in LA and well worth going out of the way for.
One of my favorite coffee spots. Its quiet, away from the tourist crowd of the promenade and they have so many different types of coffee with all different flavor profiles. Very unique place as far as cafes go.
Shop look very nice, a bit small but it was relaxing place, with parking In the back. Also has good for snacks. I got a Jasmine tea lemonade and it was very good and good customer service.
Ive only ever had their coffee, but it is always excellent. They serve you a tall glass with standard additions (sugar, cream) on the side if you really prefer, with a good amount of comfortable seating for either relaxing or study. I often buy beans to go which are usually within a day of roasting and turn out excellent in brews.
I am a coffee lover and I love this place. Also their whole menu. I come often. Highly recommended.
I had a lovely iced latte with coconut & vanilla. It had a deep, rich flavor. The setup is really cute and cozy, with little wood tables and flower centerpieces. It was drizzling but they had a little tent over the seating area. The two employees I spoke to were very friendly and helpful.
SUPERB coffee. Excellent service. Get the chocolate espresso drink; you literally spoon hot delicious liquid chocolate mixed with espresso. Perfect to warm you up on a cold day.
I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Funnel Mill on our interview date.Siphoning is absolutely one of the best ways to drink coffee and it’s no surprise that Santa Monica wanted to get in on the fun. Funnel Mill absolutely lives up to its name, in which you are introduced to the many mad scientist lab materials that it takes to brew the coffee. Nestled along its walls are fresh beans and tea leaves, so you’re able to take home the exact beverage you fell in love with, but first, you’ve got to make a decision from their lengthy beverage menu.Funnel Mill’s menu can feel endless and a bit intimidating to those who are indecisive, but it can also lead to a fun adventuring in tasting. Once you make your decision, you can sit yourself at any of its tall bistro tables or comfy leather couches inside or at a table outside to soak up the fresh beach-y air. It’s not right on the beach, but just close enough for you to walk into if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of crazy parking and sky-high food and drinks.
I have literally awakened and realized I am in heaven right here in the Funnel Mill Cafe. I am having my second cup of coffee. The coffee is the smoothest ever. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about the coffee and willing to help you with your selections. They even serve delicious vegan desserts. Its very quiet and relaxing here with beautiful classical music playing softly in the background. I dont want to leave!
Solid coffee. Had the chocolate truffle cold brew and it was awesome. But the lady at the counter was pretty cold too.. Its like she didnt want me to be there. I tried to be super polite and she was not having it.
My absolute favorite coffee shop in LA. The vanilla latte is spectacular, but honestly so is everything else. Working is encouraged - there are power strips around - and to make it even nicer, its pretty quiet, as talking on cell phones is not allowed inside.
Diana was super kind and accommodating! Answering our questions and providing excellent service! Coffee was delish and the atmosphere was perfect for conversation and work.
Great tasting coffee. A bit on the expensive side but totally worth it. Quiet place for study/work with no music. Would definitely go in to try out their other roasts.
Wonderful coffee and calming ambiance. Perfect for writing, studying, reading, or other quiet activities. The seating is comfy and there are plenty of power strips - no need to fight for the outlet! Friendly staff.
Favorite coffee shop! You cannot beat the quality of the coffee or teas offered here. Several great gluten-free baked goods, and the best iced coffee you will ever have. Highly recommend the chocolate-truffle, caffeine buzz all day long (in a good way).
Despite being a coffee place, this place knows its tea! I love getting a pot of their darjeeling and sitting at a table to read or write.
Top notch coffee and a great place to study! The wifi is fast, the atmosphere is quiet, parking is convenient. The only thing Id say is that the owner is a bit intimidating, but I suppose that adds to the charm of this place. This is a no-nonsense, all-around superb coffeehouse.
Great coffee and service. They take a lot of care in making all their drinks. I wish there were more food options. A lot of the baked goods are gluten free or vegan and look kind of sad.
This is not a place for cheap coffee. It *is* a place for fine coffee, lovingly crafted, served in a tranquil, cell-phone free environment. My go-to drink is the vanilla cappuccino, Ive sampled most of their other coffee drinks, and Ive also gotten bean blends for making coffee at home. Its all great.
Funnel Mill is the best! They make great coffee and are the friendliest people I met in Austin. They take coffee very seriously, so you know everything that you order is going to be made with love and is the best quality.
My favorite coffee spot in LA. Such a peaceful and unhurried experience with really quality coffee. Service is impersonal but I like that about Funnel Mill. My only complaint is that it doesnt open til 9a and is closed on Sundays which is when I have the time to savor good coffee. Owners if youre reading this, PLEASE consider opening on Sundays!!
One morning in an attempt to kill time and fight a massive sinus headache I walked into Funnel Mill to get a Jasmine Tea. Service was great the tea want hot enough for my sinuses but it was delicious. The tea was $9.50 but they do have cheaper options and they gave me the leave to take home to reuse. Its a nice place to go and treat yourself.
I ordered an iced green tea and it was delicious. Its an excellent place to work, since it is very quiet. Nice decor, and great ambience.
Superb tea, really a wonderful experience. A special treat that I dont come to often enough. I dont drink coffee, but they have a wide selection of both tea and coffee.
This is indeed a higher end coffee and tea shop. They roast they own beans weekly if not twice a week. They have more than 20 different fresh loose leaf teas to choose from. Both the coffee and tea is top notch. I purchase coffee beans here weekly. If you want to try something special the do have a very rare cup of coffee called kopi luwak which is 120$. Need to call ahead but it is a very unique experience for sure! It is a very comfortable hang out spot and most of the people in there are quiet and respectful. The service is very great and they really take pride in their work.
One of the best tea shops in LA. They know how to make tea properly here! Love the fantastic and unique selection. I go here once every few weeks for a tea treat.
Best coffee on the west side. They roast their own beans and make the perfect espresso.
This is easily the best cold brew Ive ever had. Great natural flavor from quality beans. Go for the chocolate truffle cold brew and you wont regret it.
Best CBD Coffee. Great place for relax and work. No talking over cellphone is allowed.
Name lives up to its name. We had coffee which was great. Tea looked great too but didnt get a chance to try it.
Coffee is fresh and amazing.I like the taste of good quality coffee. They certainly make sure of it.Highly recommended
It would be far easier to list the things I dont like about this place - because I can only think of one thing - I wish they were open 24/7. Their product is, hands down, the most exquisite Ive ever experienced, and Ive tried more than half the extensive menu at this point. I really mean it when I say, there are no words that do it justice - you have to come and experience it for yourself. They grind and syphon brew each cup right in front of you, the teas are all fresh and come with a pour pot to pour steaming water over the fresh leaves / flowers so you can drink it immediately after - even the assortment of snacks are delectable and healthy to boot! This place is a gem. And to top it all off - the owners - JC and Theresa - who are almost ALWAYS behind the counter serving their customers - are beyond nice, as are Dianna and Joe. I left my wallet at home today by accident - and they told me theyd hold my tab until next time Im in... who does that?! Thats what I imagine things were like in the old days - where they knew you by name. Granted - Im a regular here and they do know me by name as they do many of their regular customers - but still - that was above and beyond. I love this place for all these reasons and more! This is a place that knows the meaning of customer first. They make each individual customer feel like they are important, and as a result, have cemented my loyalty in place.Chris
Amazing service by a friendly, knowledgeable staff. EVERYTHING is made fresh. Oh and the coffee is delicious. Im having a Chai today!
I experienced such horrendous customer service that I walked out before ordering. A friend asked about the composition of the $5 cappuccino and was told sneeringly that they dont mail Starbucks cup here. We were then asked if we were actually ready to order, and when we said no, we were told to get out of the way for other customers, none of which were ready either. In the process of looking at the expansive, and likely tasty coffee and tea menu I witnessed several other moments of poor service. I walked out and will never be back, which is disappointing because Ive had major problems finding quality teas since moving from Minneapolis. I will have to continue looking.
They have the best coffee in town. The staffs are all well mannered and the place is so relaxing.
Dont come in here unless you want the best. Because thats all they do. Herbal tea is wonderful and the espresso is perfect.
Loved the coffee. polite staff. Great place to chill with a good cup of coffee and a friend. I found this place by accident. But is now my place for coffee and read a book. Thanks Sara!
Very high end coffee and tea. Great for connoisseurs. The people watching can also be entertaining here.
A true coffee experience. Very cool to watch them work. Coffee here is a true non pretentious art form.
Very fresh coffee. Full service coffee spot where they make the coffee and bring it to you.
Awesome coffee. I wasnt able to give tips to the nice staff. They dont believe in tips. Sweet))
Vegan treats galore and drinks prepared with love.
This place is the real deal!! They take their coffee and tea very seriously and are incredibly knowledge!! My GF is a coffee drinker from Colombia so knows her stuff. I am an avid tea drinker. The presentation is great the quality top notch. They favor a gong fu style of tea preparation and consummation you can get 10-15 infusions off of one thing of tea so dont be put off by the price it will go far. At first the vibe seemed sterile our first outing but the second outing was completely different it was the place it was us. The staff is very friendly and helpful!!! I wish I discovered this sooner. Going back to the east coast soon!!
Delicious coffee and very kind staff! The style of brewing here is interesting to watch and makes a very smooth brew.
Unique, lovely, great conversation or quiet workplace. Excellent coffee and tea, many are unique and prepared with care and consistency.
A true cafe in the sense of the word: People come here to work, talk, meet, read and relax. Its a bit of an Oasis, in part because the owner benevolently ensures that the philosophy of the space is maintained. Excellent coffees, teas and tasty treats. All served with a dedication to quality that puts this place above the fold. Kopi Luwak for the lucky ones who can afford it and a gourmet coffee experience for all.
A great spot for coffee and tea aficionados that favors high end product and high end presentation. What else is nice about this spot is the peaceful atmosphere and helping that is the no talking on the cellphone rule. So, come here to get your fix and be productive with your work.About the tea: I ordered the masala tea with low fat milk and couldnt be happier. Definitely a new robust flavor with a lot going on. Dont let the price dissuade you, you will be presented with tea service fit for the distinguished with enough to hold you over for a good while (about 3-4 servings in a pot.) The preparation for this tea takes time to prepare by hand and is well worth the wait (~15 minutes.)
Lovely place with superb coffee. Its the opposite of a starbucks experience if you know what I mean. The coffee here is top notch, though this place is great for tea lovers too. I only wish they start accepting Amex
I had a wonderful tea. Great service and background music to work or relax
