Nice lil comic shop. Everyone should be able to find something theyd enjoy, but not necessarily what theyre looking for. Staff were helpful and nice.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff in so many different ways. They had a comic book guy who knew where pretty much every comic was located. There was also a guy who was able to help with all sorts of different games.I ended up buying the DCeased graphic novel that has all 7 issues. Worth it.Parking is always tricky in this area, but its a nice walk around the corner for a good space.
On a WEDNESDAY I called beforehand to see if they still had a comic I was looking for. I called at 4. Left work and it took me and hour and a half to get there bus only to find out they closed an hour earlier than posted online. Turned me away. Absolutely ridiculous. They easily could’ve told me over the phone they were closing early.
Calling all comic book collectors. This store has a great collection of new and vintage comic books, books, t-shirts, and other collectibles. As of this writing, the store will be relocating, so you might want to go by there sooner than later.
Really enjoyed the spot! Always nice when you can find a comic book store that is large, easy to navigate, clean, well organized, and has some rare or interesting merchandise. I was able to score a whole run of Rise of the Black Panther for less than $10, which was a great find and price.
Little smaller than the Santa Monica Blvd store but still cool...
Happy the new location is by my kid’s high school
Great comic store with a side variety of options. Enjoyed it tremendously.
A very cool comix shop
Always friendly and helpfulGreat selection of comics
Great selection of comics and a variety of other books.
I’ve been getting comics here my whole life, as it’s changed locations. The current owners are so sweet and helpful! They’ll get you anything you’re looking for
Always a pleasure to visit.
Friendly and helpful staff. Wide selection of both comics and gaming product. Willingness to shuffle around the store to make more room for events. And good food options in the area. Just a great store all around.
Best comic shop in SaMo!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Conscientious about inclusiveness and Covid
Stopped by for some magic while on a business trip. Staff was very helpful. Overall had a great time at this store!
My kids love to explore the store: comic books, action figures posters and decals. They always find something of interest.
Value comics priced fairly at 50¢ to 99¢ are a great way to build or start a comic library. Magic the Gathering tournaments weekly, and other activities are always outlined on a wall calendar! 🤹📆🔮
One of most well-maded comic store I have seen. Quite large with open space, bright and elegant. With huge asortiment for comic and fantasy fans.
They have great collections of comic books. Wonderful to be able to see them before buying them. New issues and classics.
It is a very nice location. Its the first time Ive go e since they moved locations and it turned out really nicely. The people working were helpful and asked any questions I had. I went to try my hand at magic and the guys there were super lenient to myself and the other new players. The regulars were just as helpful as the employees. If your looking for a nice community place to go and meet people with similar interests I must admit Im split between Aero Hobbies on Santa Monica Blvd and Yale and this place. It really comes down to distance to travel.
Cool place and drawings..Like colored pencil. My childhood dream was to be able to draw this Stuff. Really
The sales clerk/owner? went out of his way to find me something not often requested. Nice selection of comics even from the fifties.
Awesome comic store. They have a large selection of current titles as well as a huge selection of older ones. I spent a good hour or so going through the shelves there. they also have figures and art books too. Its a great place to play and buy magic the gathering. They have drafts and events every week and have top ten (in the state) players go there too. I played with the number 4 ranked guy a few weeks ago and he even helped me with my deck and gave me some really awesome tips and advice. I was able to trade in some cards and got some great store credit (you can also trade in for cash as well). They sell singles, boosters, fat packs, sleeves and deck boxes. Love this store!
This comic store is so organized and clean. Its a good one for you to start reading comics. They offer action figures, single issues of comics and trade ones too. Magic and Pokemon fans this store is for you too.
Take advantage of coming here during my monthly work trips to Santa Monica. I adore this place, always fully stocked, and great environment
Amazing comic shop. Friendly staff. I brought my 4yr old son with me and they had a kids comic section at his height. Totally made his day. Spent lots of money that day because all the comics were well organized and they had such a huge selection. I dont live locally but I wish I did.
Fun and entertaining!!! Speaking of entertaining once a month on the first Thursday of the month they have comedy night for those of you of age starts at 8 p. M. Bring your own bottle and $5 donation is all they ask and a sense of humor
An awesome place with amazing deals and a really good collection of back issues and local artists
Great shop. Good selection of comics! Staff was friendly. Be sure to check them out at their new location. I ended up at the old location as their address was not updated in Google maps.
Excellent location for all your comic book, manga and pokemon needs. Great staff who is very knowledgeable.
Spoiler alert, I am a regular customer at this store and go on a weekly basis for tournaments, so my review will be based off that. The staff really makes this store him, very friendly, willing to get to know customers and banter/play alongside them. Its pretty important too, since they have events daily across a multitude of games. I mostly go for Magic, playing Standard at FNM and Pioneer/Standard on Saturdays. Standard usually has at least 6 people during slow periods (holidays, rotation, post-bans) but can sometimes not fire if too many people are out of town. Drafts seem to fire at least two pods every Friday, and Pioneer on Saturday Mornings hasnt had less than 10-12 people the 3 times I have gone.I know they also do Commander, Legacy and Modern events, although I dont play in those. Prices on cards at the store are the same as pulling up TCGPlayer mid market price, so youll always be getting what youd pay online without shipping.I do want to mention that the player-base can vary, but skees towards the younger side. There are plenty of high school/college age players at the store weekly, as well as some late 20s-30s players who live nearby. It definitely depends on the event you do - Limited formats often skewing towards the younger side.I have bought board games from the store previously and they were quite fairly priced, although I can not really vouch for their comics selection (since Im not a huge comic fan).
Great place! I go there almost every other Friday night to play magic there.
This place is nice but needs to be more organized with their back issues. If you are looking for anything in particular that is more than a month old, good luck finding it. They do have a hug selection of comics, but it doesnt help you if they cant tell you where to look. The customer service is very friendly aside from that fact. If you are new to comics or what to just kill time trying to see if you can find anything in their back issue I would recommend this place.
You got great people working there, well mannered and friendly. The store is pretty big, and like others have said well organised. Plenty of comics and pop toys for you to browse through. Prices are pretty resonance too. If you are in route to Santa Manica Pier or Downtown I would highly recommend you giving this place a viewing.
Don’t sell yugioh
Super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. I enjoyed playing two Magic The Gathering events so far (pre-release and standard). The regulars seem to be skilled players, but also willing to help. Looking forward to going back with a new and improved deck! =)
This place has eveything and their Magic the Gathering events are super friendly and well organized.
Great selection of comics, Pop! figures, one of a kind collectable pins and more.
Gotta love a location that understands the fan experience! Thanks for the fun time!
As a Magic the Gathering fan, I love going to Hi De Ho especially for prereleases. The manager Michael is amazing at his job, if you love comics or Magic the Gathering, this is the place for you!!!
They have great and organized tournaments with great comics and polite employees.
Big store with everything youd expect from a modern comics and collectibles store. Could use a little sprucing up here and there, but they had Jaime Hernandez, of Love & Rockets fame, in the shop for Free Comic Book Day so maybe they have bigger fish to fry.
Great selection of comics. Usually, I worry about not being cool enough to meander around a comic shop but like 4 dudes asked me about comics, which we discussed at length before they realized I didnt work there.
Great For Comics, Magic the Awakening and Pokemon. My kids love coming here to buy and play Pokemon. Also this shop has many Magic the Awakening events. My kids love coming here.
Great comic shop! Amazing selection of vintage comics.
Great my son found comic books at a great price
By far the best and oldest comic book store around. Great selection, awesome team. Just a perfect place for comic lovers. A must see if youre around!
Played magic here a few times, plenty of seating, super friendly staff and players. I sold a bunch of cards to the store and got a good deal.Edit: Original review was when they were still on Lincoln. They moved to 4th street and I have not been there.
Really cool place for board games and comics! There are tables for people playing Magic.
I love that theres such a big section for local/small press comics, and the staff actually recommend their favourites of them!
Nice new location closer to the water with more foot traffic. 50-cent back issue boxes with decent low grade bronze age.
Great place to buy your comic books, everyone there are very friendly and helpful.
Its pretty ok tbh
One of the better card shops Ive ever been to. Great location, nice interior, decent seating.
I used to buy my comics here in the 80s. They moved to a new location a year ago but everything is disorganized and hard to find. Comics all over in open boxes. I was told they are in the process of remodeling but really hard to find things unless you have hours to browse around. I suggest other better comic locations in LA until remodeling finished. Watch out for parking outside. You will get a $75 ticket for being 1 minute over meter. Price of being in Santa Monica.
Great selection of comics and figureAmazing collection of MTG cards
I been going here for about two years! This place has changed a lot!! They made a lot of improvements! The staff is great and always willing to help you out
Awesome store! Tons of comics and graphic novels! they have MTG cards for sale there too. Theres a private parking lot in the back.
One of the last comic book stores still standing... pretty awesome selection...but unfriendly, not-too-helpful staff means mediocre rating...
This is where I go to draft magic cards. Great place
Good selection.. helpful staff ...Pleasant environment
Friendly staff, great interior, well organized. I came in looking for a specific book and found it right away and was out in under 5 minutes. Next time I will make sure to browse for a while.
Wonderful comic shop with a great selection. One of the few shops in LA with a decent assortment of back issues as well.
Old school great comic store. Used to be at different location for years. Its an institution. They have fun events here.
Great location and staff.
Sales staff was very helpful making recommendations based on things I like.
Got a hellboy volume 1 comic book from the store great people great store
The have very old and original issues of comic books with reasonable prices
Awesome and helpful employees. A great place to play Magic!
I just went there this past Saturday the 4th for free Comic Book Day this is my first day going and I was in the Santa Monica area so I decided to go to the comic book shop when I got there the store looked really good a goos variety of comics and collectibles, so I went to the counter and spoke to the salesperson and ask where are the Walking Dead comics are and he just points over there in a very rude way so I went to look for myself I found the comics i want it then went to look for the free comics. I found what I wanted but I wouldnt come back to store only one person was nice and helped me look for what I needed I think good customer service should be me what are the first priorities in a business no matter what kind of business do you have thank you treat a customer just like any other customer no matter how they look
On this day they had there floors flooded but they where pushing the water out and tryed there best
Ive been here at least once a week, and Ive got a pull here. The staff is great for recommendations, and its an amazing atmosphere.
Best Comic store! Great place for Magic cards and tournaments
If you are new to comics and games or are a hard core collector, Hi De Ho Comics’s staff will help you find what you want and they have a great selection of comics, collectibles and magic cards.
1st time there, very cool, picked up some cool stuff, I will be back.
Great service and recommendations
Quick response to my email.
Nice place to introduce players to magic: the gathering. Friendly staff, great advice.
They always have what I need. Staff is knowledgeable about their items and super friendly.
Great selection and friendly staff
Extremely knowledgeable staff. Knew exactly what obscure graphic novel I was talking about from the 90s.
Love their new space. Really awesome.
Nice people, nice place
I finally decided to go to Hi de Ho comics today. When I arrived there its said 7 days a week open, but when I went to the door was locked. When I called the store standing right outside i asked are you open today? but they said no. They said they were usually open on Sundays but not today. When I asked if they would be open at all their only reply was UhhhI dont know. One thing I know is that I wont be using this comic store again. For a better store. Try the Comics store on Washington in venice.
Place is awesome! Laid-back atmosphere, quality MTG community/players
Great
The store is a nice place to play magic but one of my complaints is that I sold some cards their and they gave me about half the value for some cards like Kozilek and Drana. The comics are in meh not terrible condition. The events are fun and I often play FNM there but I do say that they do need to give the seller of the cards there fair amount.
Great selection of comic books and comic book related toys.
Its my spot I go for both comics and magic.
Great staff even better selection
Great Selection and Service
Co-owner brags on Facebook comic book collector pages about how he will pull books off the shelf on delivery day to sell for more than cover on eBay. Also brags about charging more for some issues than cover on delivery day.
Great owners, great selection, hard to park
I have 2 problems with this store that makes me say if you can go anywhere else then do it. The web says they close at 9pm on a saturday but when I showed up at 8 they were already closed. I bought a comic here that was already bagged and boarded but when I got it home and took it out thats when I noticed the back cover of the book was folded up in several places. Thats 2 strikes from me. There wont be a third.
