They have parts and things you just cant find anywhere else.Big selection of instruments new and usedThe owner has a vast knowledge of pretty much anything and usually can fix about anything except pianosLike an old time hardware store its best to ask for what you need.....otherwise you may never find it.Very interesting place
My local music shop, wouldn’t bring my business anywhere else unless necessary. Everybody giving poor reviews because the owner doesn’t put on that fake welcoming persona to attract business, toughen up. It’s part of the experience.
My 12 year old daughter and I literally walked into this store for the first time ever out of the blue today. I told Gerry she wanted a used electric guitar and that we knew nothing and we were here to learn. And did we ever! Gerry spent over an hour with us, talking about music and music education and how best to learn the guitar, then turning to the guitars themselves, taking us through the other items we would need besides the guitar and explaining what we would want to look for in a good guitar. We found one we are interested in and he painstakingly wrote out all of the features so I could send the info on to my guitar playing brother so he could check it out. He let her play the guitar and spend time with it. No rush at all. Is Gerry warm and fuzzy? No. Does he tell it like it is? Hell yes. Frankly, that was exactly what I was looking for. No BS and a solid education, and no sales-y stuff. This is a guy who knows guitars and loves music. Dont go if you are easily offended or sensitive because he is going to give you his opinion straight out. I for one truly enjoyed my experience here - it made my and my daughters weekend to meet Gerry! Not a lot of places like this left. Go!
The guy was extremely rude to me and my friend. He judged my personal instrument interests when I was looking for records, which by the way were completely over-priced and stuffed together, and when I told him the instrument I tried to play, he got mad at me for not enjoying it and being as good as he was. Then he got angry that I didnt pick out the more expensive records, and when I looked in the discounted section, was upset. I would take your business elsewhere.
The place is amazing. A true English record/cd/music lesson and repair store. Owner Gerry is very knowledgeable about all genres of music. If you are, a music lover, this is a must stop. Thanks Gerry for my Beatles trivia.
DO NOT GO TO REPAIR OR BUY GUITARSI was repairing my guitar, I was told one week and 50$ and it turned out to be 3 weeks and double the price. Totally scammed, all it needed were simple adjustments. Owner is rude and treats customers AWFUL. Dusty store unorganized. I highly reccomend someone buy him out and put the store under new management. Idk why he owns a store if he treats customers like garbage.
Going there is much more than a trip to your local Walmart/Guitar Center. If you just learn to listen, and listen to learn, besides an amazing array of hard to find musical instruments and especially song books, you will find an actual person with a heart and soul, watching over the inventory and you.And treating everyone the same, calmly and collectively. Who knows? You just might learn something and be entertained while trying to figure out what color guitar pick sounds the best. Try it out. There’s no cover charge or minimum. And if you have a hankering for The Partridge Family’s 4th album on vinyl, you’ve come to the right place. PEACE2ALL. H.M. Horton.
Overglcharges you and never repairs your guitar takes forever charges me 2x the original amount and fixes thing that didn’t need fixing but owner is very knowledgeable and has impressive inventory. Guitar prices cannot compare to online sellers however
If youve ever watched Pawn Stars, Gerry is like the friends that Ricks calls in to assess unique pieces for their history and worth. By FAR the most knowledgeable music store owner/guitar tech Ive ever encountered. I brought my 2 guitars in to be serviced and was blown away by how much history he could tell me (he was spot on). Like others have said, I was in awe of his selection of Fenders and acoustics and I know that I will be adding to my collection. Yes the store is cramped but for me guitars are like people and I personally like that Gerrys store doesnt feel like a store at all. Its his home and you take one of his friends home to yours.
I don’t bother going anymore. Records packed so tight you can’t even search comfortably. A hoarders paradise but not good for record collectors. Potential to be 5 stars if cleaned up with room to search.
Carries a very large inventory of guitar and drum instruments, plenty of music for student of any instrument. Owner is always very helpful to customers. Enormous collection or records, cds.
I think a lot of people complaining about Gerry, are the same people that just complain about everything. I went there with my 7 yr old boy and he was like in heaven. Gerry is well informed of not only music, but the local history of Scituate. Prices are decent, plus he will help tune your uke, guitar, etc for next to nothing. I’m definitely gonna be a new regular!!
Place is well stocked, but crowded and dusty. Hard to even see what is available. Some nice instruments. Overpriced compared to online. Charges $30 for a $15 tuner... Owner is pretty surly.
You have to get to know Gerry . He always gives me a good deal. He can be tough on you but deep down hes cool . And no one has the selection of fender guitars he has no one . You can go to guitar center and have your choice of about 3 items to try out that although they sell as new they feel used and abused . If I had a lot of money theres about 10 more guitars Id buy from Gerry
Went there with $3k to spend. The place had a lot of inventory but the store is a complete mess, dusty, cramped and poorly run. Next to impossible to browse and enjoy a visit. The owner wont let you touch anything because it’s so cramped he fears dings on guitars covered in dust. I got frustrated with it and walked out after 15 minutes. Awful. This is the polar opposite experience to Chicago Music Exchange which is the greatest guitar shopping experience I’ve ever had.Someone should buy this guy out and open a proper store.
If you are really into guitar and/or piano, as I am, and you have, as I could actually see from the street, the wealth of stock that Jerry carries from the street..I could see, simply by peeking in, hes got it all. When I spoke to him, I found him to be nothing but friendly, helpful, and very kind and especially tolerant of you folks who seem to be much less tolerant of Him. (That comment did not pertain to anyone, who did not say anything unkind about Him.) To be truthful I grew up in Scituate as well. I took lots of nursing and psych courses. Guitar is an instrument of comfort. You have not walked in his shoes...how do you know, that he was not badly hurt at some point in his life? That usually makes a person stand offish, or withdraw somewhat. I will say this, I was taught one thing by my very loving mom, who died much sooner than I wished...she taught me, if I didnt have something nice to say, perhaps I should not say anything at all. Do you folks know, when I told him about these posts...he had NOTHING bad to say back about you folks...the ones who knocked him. I guess he agrees with myself and my mom. I think he and his store are a wealth of information, and a treat! If you knew what Scituate had for a music store before he came...youd appreciate him a lot more! We certainly did not have all of this variety! Not in instruments, and not in sheet music...I grew up playing my guitar at church, and piano, as well, so I know about the towns music store...it IS a GOLDMINE...Im so grateful its there! Thank you Jerry, for coming to Scituate! Butterfly725
My daughter and her friend brought their guitars in to be re-strung. They were quoted $50-70 and told they would be ready over the weekend. When they went to pick them up (two additional times) they were told, both times, he needed a few more days. They asked him if he could call them when they were ready. His response “no”. Four weeks later they were finished and the price $135 but he’d “only” charge them $90. Mind you these guitars only cost $100 brand new. He was never asked to make any repairs, just new strings. He was rude, dismissive and took advantage of their age and inexperience. I can’t speak to his expertise in music but I can say his customer service SUCKS!
The white haired guy was an arrogant jerk. I am shocked by the way he treats potential customers. Highly recommend you take your business elsewhere.
Ignore the negative reviews. This isnt Guitar Center. This is a real Music Shop with real new and used equipment in the right condition, real musicians, and an absolute wealth of knowledge. Can Gerry be a bit rough around the edges? You bet. Is he actually a good guy when you get past the rough edges? You bet! This guy knows his stuff and he is happy to talk about it at length. He is a great repair tech too and will get your equipment up to snuff quickly at a good price. Take his advice. Its not just an upsell.Just read the signs and dont play with what you shouldnt. That stuff is expensive and Im sure hes been dealing with grabby kids and greasy fingers for longer than Id be able to. If you want to touch something thats worth more than the cash in your pocket, just ask him. Seems pretty reasonable to me.You wont find this kind of service and wisdom at Guitar Center or even at other local music shops. The amount of selection here is unbelievable and there are some serious hidden gems to be found hiding in darkened corners. If you want a real authentic music shop experience this is the place to go!Gerry has been a Scituate Harbor staple for decades. Support your local businesses. This is the place to go!!
The place is packed and quirky but I felt we got good advice and a decent price and I was happy to keep my $ on Front Street.
Found an old rivera era fender concert amp. guy wouldnt let me test the amp and turned it on to show it powered up. when i bought it he said no returns. when i got it home the 2nd channel was dead, so im out 650 on half an amp. guy is dishonest. i dont care if he has a ton of stuff in there he knows exactly what he has and its condition. cab didnt even match the amp. dont buy anything from this guy hes rude and a dishonest business person.
Excellent selection n very friendly!!
Great store . Selection is off the charts
Guy is a total joke, got all his nice records getting rained on and wont let you play any of his guitars
