I had Dan run pre-purchase inspections on two Porsches I was considering but had not yet seen in person. His inspections were thorough, and after each one he called me and went over the results in detail, answering my questions with valuable context and insight. His expertise and attention to detail prevented me from making what would have likely been an expensive and regrettable mistake in one case, and in the other pointed out flaws and imperfections that the seller had missed that helped me negotiate a savings above and beyond the cost of the PPI. Definitely money well spent in both cases. If I have future Porsche mechanical needs in the PHX area I would not hesitate to engage his services again.

After purchasing a 1988 928 S4 a few years ago, Dan was recommended by two different acquaintances, on two separate occasions. How often does that happen?A year ago I purchased a 1986 944 Turbo. I found out quickly, that he knows as much about them as the 928s. I have recommended him to friends and they are equally impressed. They own 911s and Audis.Upon meeting Dan, I was immediately blown away by his knowledge and willingness to share information. I like to do as much of my own work as possible. This did not phase him. Most shops would see this as completion or a nuisance.Dan is obviously driven by a love for these cars and ensuring they are preserved. He has gotten me out of more than one bind, with a timely repair, part or advice. And in doing so, not only has he ensured that my cars are in tip top shape, but he has made me a better amateur mechanic.

I have been taking my cars to Exotic Motorwerks/Dan for several years now, and will continue to so. He was highly recommended, and as Ive come to know him, I truly feel that he is one of the best mechanics Ive run across. His attention to detail is amazing.You might not always like to hear that something else needs replacing when it wasnt the reason you brought it in, but to me that shows that he has the best interest of the car in mind at all times, and is truly interested in keeping them in top shape. I never feel like hes trying to rack up the bill, he clearly shows you what he found, explains the potential impacts, and lets you make the decision.I can honestly say that my 2 928s and small flotilla of 944s are in much better shape due to his care, and again, highly recommend him.

I am a repeat offender when it comes to buying classic European cars. I found Dan after I purchased a 1986.5 Porsche 928s that was barely running. He gave me two options: Fix the basics and get it running quickly, or turn it into more of a long term project and be patient. I chose option 1, but then changed to option 2 after getting to know Dan and his work a little better.What immediately struck me about Dan is his comprehensive knowledge of every part and piece of any car he takes in. The more I spoke with him, the more I realized that he does this work for two reasons. The first is that he is passionate about the cars. The second is that he is passionate about doing each job correctly and completely.When Dan does a repair on my car, I know he is not just fixing it, he is partially restoring it to new condition. Even something as simple as a brake job involves working on components that are more than 30 years old. Dan knows exactly what needs to be replaced, what is something to check on again after some time, and what is holding up well and can be left alone.The difference between a regular 9-5 mechanic who works at a shop or dealership and a professional mechanical technician like Dan is that when Dan fixes something, the car is not just repaired, it is improved from how it was when new.Not everyone appreciates this level of care, but they should. These cars are becoming rarer and rarer, and the kind of work Dan does guarantees the cars he touches will be around for a long time.If you have a water-cooled Porsche from the 1970’s through 1990’s, there are less than a dozen really talented independent shops in the country to take them to. Dan (owner) is awesome and really knew the 944. He was really honest,, explained what was wrong w my A/C, called multiple times with updates, and was able to solve it at a fraction of the price for what I was quoted elsewhere

Dan is the best. He has preformed exceptional work and treated me fairly and honestly. I would not consider taking my 911 anywhere else.

I was very close to booking with this place until a gentleman over the phone said something that turned me off. I simply stated that from a sales perspective the work I needed would be a decent sale for them (around $4000.00).He disagreed saying that particular job was “very labor intensive” and could be a problem.With an attitude like that about doing a more labor intensive job, I could only visualize an upset/frustrated person working on my car.No thank you!

Exotic is a great shop for Porsche and Mercedes service. Dan and his crew do a great job. They are honest and know the cars. Dan has kept my Porsche running well for more than 10 years.

Dan is in my opinion the top 928 specialist in the valley. Whenever I have issues (which come more often than I would want, but thats what happens with classic cars!), he is always willing to take a look, and return in a timely manner with the problem either resolved or detected. This place is excellent. Dan, the owner, is a master technician, and equally important - he is honest and runs his operations with high integrity. I took my VW Passat here and couldnt have been happier with the results. My car was fixed in a timely manner, at a reasonable price, and they made me feel like I brought in a Porsche instead of a VW. At the end I was provided with a detailed explanation of everything that was done to the car and things to watch out for. It is good to know a mechanic you can trust.
