Delicious - loved the signature salted caramel flavor. Perfect waffle cone. 2 scoop serving is gigantic - try a split cup if you want 2 flavors.
I had a disappointing experience at Salt & Straw today. Ive been there several times, sampling several of their unique flavors and being very pleased with the experience. But today I ordered one of the flavors on special, a single scoop in a cup. In the past when I order a single scoop in a cup, the person scooping would get all the the ice cream the scoop could hold, overflowing, and jam it into the cup, which is barely able to contain my treat. Yum! What a great indulgence! Not today. I received my cup and it appeared that the guy scooping had worked to make a perfect round ball with the scoop and dropped that little ball into the cup, with plenty of room for it to rattle around. It was a disappointment. I would rate this trip as only 3 stars, the ice cream very good, the presentation and demonstration of stinginess disappointing. On this rating Im giving a 4 only because I didnt rate my prior visits, some of which would have been 5 star. Such is my reasoning and/or insanity. Im not sure when Im going to be back. If a little round scoop is what I have to look forward to, Ill go up the street to the might-o doughnuts instead for a treat.
Whenever Im not at molly moons, I am here. Probably one of my favorite ice cream places in Seattle.I love their insanely creative and innovative flavors, and every tike they come out with seasonals, I am alwayss excited to see what interesting ingredients they use.I got the salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough, and it was actually my first time trying it. I just remember that when I was takijg my first few bites, I was literally SPEECHLESS! I didnt say a word after the first few bites because I was still trying to process what I just had. It was so complex, and intricate because there was so many flavors and textures that are just in one bite! The best thing is that no flavor or texture overpower each other, and so everything you taste and feel are perfect together. You have the very creamy base, then chewiness from the cookie dough, a slight crunch from the chocolate chips, and the perfect amount of sweetness. The salt really does bring out the sweet, and the salt was just an excellent touch to it as well... not too overpowering either. As I said, Salt & Straw are at the very top of my list for best ice cream spots in Seattle, and everything is just so innovative and creative!
I love the unique flavors here! Got the Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero and Honey Lavender. When I first tasted the goat cheese flavor, I wasn’t the biggest fan. But as I kept eating, it really grew on me and I loved it by the end! The Honey Lavender was delicious and floral as always. Every time I come to the west coast, I try to stop by Salt & Straw!
Very pricey ice cream, but genuinely delicious. Staff is very customer focused and helpful, always willing to let you in on their personal favorites. Line can get really long at peak hours, but it is well worth it (if you dont mind the steep price). Also know they pay staff well and split tips across the shop, so bravo for that.
Delicious, amazing ice cream. The staff was fun and engaging. Cant wait to go back 😋
Do not go here is you like regular vanilla or chocolate ice cream. They have strange flavor combinations that work really well together! They have some standard flavors that are always available, and a menu of new it rotating flavors as well!
In general, I love salt and straw. I think their flavors are totally unique and all delicious. Their seasonal flavors are out of this world and youll want to try them all and make sure you get your fill before the season is over.5 stars usually for Salt & Straw but I decided to give this one 4 stars because I think their portion sizes are smaller than the other ones Ive been to.
Probably the best ice cream I’ve ever had. The gooey brownie was to die for. Would definitely come back
Ive been to this chain a few times and I really struggle to understand the hype. Maybe I dont get it, maybe I got wrong flavors, am I supposed to enjoy these lines? To no avail, it just comes off as pretty standard ice cream to me.Their selling point would be their rapid rotation is my best guess but it doesnt make better or really memorable ice cream.Maybe its due to lack of competition? Well that cant be right when you have Sweet Alchemy, D Ambrosio, Hot Cakes, Sweet Mickeys around the corner for sweets. I would argue these places beat out Salt n Straw every time.Their price is also higher than I prefer but what are you going to do. Hype begets hype and its hard to deny this stuff looks good on the social medias.2 stars at least as at the end of the day its ice cream
OMG! This is great ice cream. The cookie dough has TONS of huge dough chunks. So creamy, and definitely worth every penny. 👍👍
Great ice cream and friendly staff! I love their vegan options and it is so fun to have new flavors to try every month. Expect a wait on warm nights.
The cool flavors and hip decor are easy enough to google, but its the service of the staff and flexibility throughout COVID that Ive noticed and appreciated. Whether the lobby was open or we had to order at the door, this remains one of the few places Im confident me and my family will get good service AND good eats during one of the most challenging years of our lives.
Always good. I miss older flavors, but I get it changes from time to time.
Not what Id expect from a Salt &Straw. No cookie dough in my cookie dough ice cream. Husband fudge chunks mostly missing. Also, whe ordering g a sugar cone and not paying the extra 1.50 for a waffle cone they gave me little more than a golf ball sized scoop. Definitely not what you get in Portland.
I’ve never been to salt and straw in a long time and I regret it! I got the honey lavender and it was amazing. Salt and Straw is probably my favorite ice cream shop. The line went by quickly even as I t was crowded on a Friday night. The cone itself tasted amazing and the portion sizes are pretty huge. I wish they still had their strawberry coconut flavor! In my opinion salt and straw is better than Molly Moon‘s.
Delicious ! ! ! I enjoyed the bacon maple & the vanilla. They have the cones dyed black for Halloween 🎃.
The ice cream here is a little bit higher than other places, but it is worth money. There are various selections of traditional flavors and seasonal flavors. I tried chocolate rose petal and wildflower honey with ricotta walnut lace cookies, and I love those flavors. The staff are kind and friendly. Their service is very good and fast.
Really good ice cream. I like the arbequina olive oil and coffee. Expensive though.
Its one of those trendy and popular places that you need to go to for some reason. It smells like sugar if youre within a 50 foot radius of the place and theres usually a line out the door. There are always rotating and seasonal flavors that seem to be somewhat ambitious and risky but nothing wrong with that. When I try new flavors or combos its always a hit or a miss so sometimes dont be too brave. Personally I prefer d ambrosio across the street.
Well its kinda famous already, but for people who dont know, its a great ice cream place with interesting flavors. Def try honey lavender!
Why did I have to try this place?! The ice cream is addictive and hard to quit. Every flavor I’ve tried so far is fantastic and would highly recommend.
I would of gave them 5 stars if it wasnt over priced
Salt and Straw has never done me wrong, love this place. Their flavors often have unique ingredients (pear and blue cheese comes to mind, but also great takes on chocolate flavors).
Unique flavors and premium ingredients. Expect a long line on a warm summer evening but the service is quick and efficient.
There are always such nice employees! No matter who is working, they go out of their way to make sure I and whoever I am with gets exactly what we want. And even suggest other new flavors we wouldnt have thought to try before! (Try the olive oil with the cookie dough!)Love this spot and will always return when Im in Ballard.
We love this Salt & Straw location--scenic spot on the main stretch of Old Ballard, small parks nearby in which to sit and eat the ice cream, the amount of glass relative to the depth of the business space works well (nice natural light but also cozy), and the staff is always very polished and friendly. Its an impressive experience.
Salt and straw is always the best. We normally go to the Capital hill location but this one too is a quick wait and nearby so much great nightlife
Great ice cream. I would not order bleu cheese again but the variety of interesting selections is so refreshing. We are a three minute walk away.
Good ice cream with a couple of non-dairy options
Wonderful location and the ice cream is very tasty. Classic as well as unique flavors and an inviting space.
Having lived in Seattle for awhile, I tell myself Im supposed to have some level of loyalty to the local shops that have been around, or at the very least (maybe) to Molly Moon. I really didnt want to like the Portland upstart thats taking over the west coast, but wow their ice creams are so good. The pear and blue cheese is just a genius combination, and even their cold brew coffee cashew praline was somehow better than the other recent coffee ice creams Ive had. It has the right amount of creaminess in the texture, the right sugary sweetness, and an amazingly spot-on coffee flavor.
Salt & Straw offers unique flavors that you dont find everywhere. Quality is great too. They should consider opening more locations on the east side or towards the North. Definitely good to visit every once in a while.
Delicious! I drop in often to try their new flavors.
This place has ice cream that is so freaking good! Try the salted caramel, best I ever had. Taylor helped me and she was wonderful. All the staff were welcoming. Helpful Tip:. They are only accepting card payments right now so dont come with cash.
The staff was so nice, even when I kept changing my mind. Give them all a raise!
You know if there is line, then it must be good. What I didn’t realize was the time & attention that they spent speaking with their customers, recommending flavors, and giving out samples. Makes the service more personable. The sea salt with caramel ribbon & Beecher’s cheese with peppercorn toffee flavors are to die for!
Normally love this place but when you cant even get a sample of the flavors how are you supposed to pick? They offered a player of samples for $15.. really?
Delicious ice cream with great options for dairy-free as well!
My son said it was really good.
Really Good ice cream, normally is full of people.
Sea salt cookie dough and the chocolate one. That’s all you need to know. Still, I wouldn’t do a long line for this. Go when you don’t have to wait.
Best ice cream hands down that I’ve had in Seattle! Seasonal flavors are always changing with loads of choices (seriously you will be happy)
Incredible ice cream, cheerful and thoroughly competent staff, amazing waffle cone. Glad to have had the pleasure and will be making many happy returns for certain!
Good lord, their sea salt and caramel ribbon ice cream are to die for. Amazing!
Awesome flavors. Especially love the seasonal flavors. I love how creative they get with the flavors. Staff at Ballard location is super friendly and welcoming. Really nice spot to go to after dinner or just an evening out with friends, family or your significant other. Did I mentioned the flavors are great😁
My grandkids were enjoying their ice cream outside when we arrived
Delicious and creative flavors of ice cream. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We tried a variety of classic and seasonal flavors, all excellent. The flavors are strong and and ice cream is rich. There were several non-dairy/vegan options that sounded good too. We would definitely come back to try more varieties.
Delicious salt and caramel ribbon ice cream, with great customer service
Lot of unique flavours and delicious ice creams!
Great specialty ice cream! Employees are always so friendly! I enjoy the seasonal flavors and like that there are vegan options available.Wish they had a punch card for frequent visitors 🙂
Alright so you either hate it or you love it... Ive heard so much about this Portland ice cream spot that Ive been wanting to try it before they even opened shop in Seattle. I love ice cream and was excited that there are 2 Seattle locations - Ballard and Cap Hill. Alas, the timing was right and we had just finished dinner around the corner and decided to walk over for dessert. Of course we expected a line but it wasnt horrible and it moved fairly quickly. I did appreciate the samples that were brought out for people standing in line, just to give you a little taste of what their ice cream is all about - their sales pitch, handmade natural local ingredients. As you make your way closer inside, you can see why it works and why the line moves quickly. They have representatives offering menus and asking your party what flavors you would like to try even before you hit the ice cream counter. They legit give you every flavor you want to taste so that you can make the best decision about your scoop. Theyll even bring you your order so that when you get to the cash register, all you need to do is pay.I tried the Ellenos yogurt and matcha - didnt taste the matcha so much. I ended up ordering a split scoop of the Elm Coffee and Westland Whiskey AND the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper. My friend hates the strawberry honey balsamic cause it was so tart and sour from the balsamic. I can see that the flavors could be overwhelming about awhile cause theyre so strong. Especially in this flavor - however, I didnt taste the black pepper so much. The Elm Coffee tasted like a light coffee, didnt catch the hint of whiskey anywhere. After awhile, you feel like the flavors are a bit on the bland side - maybe cause the balsamic killed my taste buds or maybe cause the flavors really are that light. The ice cream itself was lighter than Molly Moons - almost creamier but light and smooth. I personally prefer Molly Moons cause the flavors are bolder and it doesnt get washed out after youve been eating it awhile - whereas other flavors, such as the cone, could potentially over power the ice cream flavor. I liked it, I like the concept of mixing flavors to perform an ice cream, but it fell short for me in flavors. Ample space and seating outdoors though.
10/10! Highly recommend! Our scooper (not sure of a name, but had the cute fish mask) was amazing! Very knowledgeable and helpful and immediately asked us if we had any allergies which we hadnt seen anywhere before. They seem to really care about their customers experience. And of course the ice cream was delicious and unique! A bit pricey but for a good reason.
I never would have thought that olive oil ice cream would become my favorite flavor. I love the offbeat ice cream that salt and straw makes. O generally dont like ice cream but this place has made me fall in love with ice cream
Best ice cream in Seattle customer service is the GOAT. Dude with glasses is super helpful and put me onto Pear and Bleu Cheese.
I thought they are hyped up or overrated, but I was wrong.
Incredibly strange flavors that always taste great.
Pear and Blue cheese is my favorite!Hone lavender and mint chocolate are my second favorite!
Yummy, non-dairy alternatives. The coconut water sorbet was awesome!!!
My wife and I come here more often than I would like to admit. Awesome location on Ballards most beautiful street. A frequent post-dinner stop for dessert. I dream that one day they will put the Lucky Charms seasonal flavor on their Classic menu.
Delicious ice cream, friendly staff, and strict adherence to current COVID policies.
They dont make milkshakes, only have a few fancy flavors (no classics), no toppings, no interesting cones etc.
Everytime I come here, I have a lovely experience.Staff was knowledgeable and kind. They have always been friendly and willing to answer any question my friends or I might have.Delicious ice cream with an ever widening variety of flavors. Every month a portion of the menu changes. I have been impressed and inspired with the flavors Salt & Straw have come up with. Love that theres one in Ballard now!!
Just love trying all the new and location specific flavors they have to offer. Only waited about 3 minutes in line before being helped. A long departure from how long it usually takes in a Salt & Straw line for this lovely ice cream. Cant wait to go back. Picture shows flavors as of 4 September 2018.
I tried the Pear and Blue Cheese, Salted and Malted Chocolate chip cookie dough, and the olive oil ice cream, and all were delicious. Husbands choices were also excellent (chocolate brownie, honey and lavender, and coffee praline). We love unique flavors and this did not disappoint!
Bummer about the free samples, but what are you going to do about that right now. Other than that a really good ice cream shop and I would recommend it.
This is our 2nd experience with Salt & Straw. First time was in LA and I waited in a long line for a unique tasting experience. We did this late in the evening in Seattle and the wait didnt take very long. We enjoyed getting tast a few samples and then decided on our scoop of choice. We all enjoyed the flavors and the service. I would recommend giving it a try to any ice cream lover. Fresh Sheeps cheese and strawberry was my selection. Good stuff!
Ice cream was good, not a good customer service
Love their waffle cones, always have 3+ vegan ice cream options, friendly staff every time!
This ice cream is awesome. Olive oil? The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will be back.
As always, good flavor selection and friendly service
Ice cream was delish and service was good but DANG the scoops are not what they used to be. TINY
