16th August, 2021The Best American Diner!Found this place online. Its local right on the street. Big and easy to find. The staff is young, cool, polite people managing the place. We ordered half lumberjack breakfast, Halo egg and strawberry Banana smoothieI have to say, as the food arrived it looked delicious. Well presented!#Halo EggBig plate with salad, poached egg, chipotle aoili, Halloumi, salsa and avacado.Everything was scrumptious ππHalloumia was cooked perfectly and had the zesty taste.#Half Lumberjack breakfastIt is same just you get 2 pancakes instead of 4.So, it had 2 multigrain toasts with butter, 1 fried egg, 2 pancakes with maple syrup, 1 veggie pattyFried egg was just so ππ and pancakes were so fresh and soft.Veggie patty was flat and TOO SALTY (something for the cook to consider)#SmoothieIt was thick and deliciousIts an amazing diner with great staff and quality food.I bet they have 5 star hygiene rating because their toilet was super clean πWould definitely revisit whenever I am back in Hastings. Its a must go for tourists #DefinitelyRecommend #MUSTGO
Love this place! 3rd time in this bank holiday and even better than the 1st two times. All 3 staff members were great and was a delight to watch them work so well together on the floor. They got everything right customer service wise, even down to checking we were happy. Ill be bringing all my visitors here in the future. Really impressive food, highly recommended. 5 stars well-deserved. Well done all
A cool little diner on the seafront, that get a lot of customers.πWe decided to book in advance, to ensure we could get some lunch after traveling to Hastings for the day.We were warned that food might take a while to arrive as it was fairly busy.It did take an hour to arrive, once ordered, and they forgot my food (chilli dog) and only served my fiancees pancakes, which was a bit annoying as I was quite hungry by then!Despite the issues, the food itself was filling and exactly what I hoped for.I cant fault that.Just think perhaps a bit more solid organisation is required when ensuring customer orders are processed correctly. The staff were friendly and apologetic for the long wait, which I appreciated.βοΈ
Very nice cafe with an innovative menu. Avocado on sourdough bread with halloumi sticks, Spanish omelette with flatbread & salsa, and an awesome breakfast bun! Filter coffee made a change from them fancy ones (!), and ladies serving were charming, bringing our dogs water and colouring paper/crayons for our grandson. Inside/outside seating and clean loo in a quirky setting. Fab!
OMG. Its the best place i had my breakfast during my stay at Hastings. Its amazing and worth every penny. The staff is very friendly and gives you that extra beachy vibe. Place is perfect for a brunch or a shake. Must visit π
Amazing location and super helpful customer service on email when I booked in last minute. Food was delicious and big portions - would recommend the pancakes!!Would definitely go back, just remember to book in advance as they get busy and have to turn people away!
Had a delicious breakfast here on our last day in Hastings. The staff were attentive without being intrusive we sat upstairs which was cosy and comfortable. The pancakes were to die for, highly recommend having brunch here!
Amazing pancake stack with a strawberry milkshake. Service with a smile. Thanks again π€
Been here a few times, the food is very good, very fresh
OMG, the Baileys milkshake is to die for, the chips are on another level, hiiiiiiiiiiiighly recommend this place. Only one negative - it closes too early, can you stay open later please?!!!!!! π
We had the most delicious breakfast here. We both had the lumberjack, mine was the mex eggs and bacon and my GF had poached eggs and avocado...both had pancakes and bacon....πThe service was excellent as was the coffee and the mint aero milkshake ( for breakfast ???)Would definitely lately recommend a visit!
Loved this place the lumberjack breakfast is well and truly a treat not to be missed
An absolute must for breakfast/brunch! Fab location, excellent service and delicious food
Great burger, great fries, great shake; great place
Great looking diner in the best location however, came here first thing in the morning on sunday. Itβs 10:24 on sunday morning, 2tables are taken and every other one is reserved (probably since the doors open?). And since its been nearly half an hour the diner is not sitting down anyone. Ive chosen to take my custom to the bakery next door (which was a great idea btw). Its now 10.50 and those tables were still empty. A big opportunity to earn a lot more as a business by not holding reserved tables for an hour. Just sayin, you missing out on a profit holding onto to current booking system that doesnt work
Good food, lovely setting. Service a little slow.
They were fully booked but we decided to stay outside despite the wind. We didnt have to sit long luckily our lovely waitress found a table for us inside and I had an amazing breakfast for my birthday. The lumberjack breakfast was really filling. Pancakes were soft and fluffy. All in all a great experience.
Needs more vegan options but ok.
Simply amazing pancakes!
Great place. Glad to be back.Brilliant mex-eggs.
This is a lovely little diner that serves very good food and at good prices, the staff are friendly and polite. Even my kids are happy to eat here and theyre fussy eaters. Gets very busy when the weather is nice so advisable to book ahead.
Love the Pelican! Such friendly staff, they called me when a table was free, as we hadnt booked. Food excellent as always, french onion melt is to die for and Halo Eggs for the healthier amongst us. Kids loved their half a lumberjack too - such huge portions!
Really good food and great place to sit and eat. Great milkshakes too
Location is great, food good but a bit pricey.
This place was excellent. We had to book and sit outside but SO worth it. Esp. the aero milkshake.
The food was great, big portions, good choice for veggies and vegans and properly made burgers. The only downside I would say was the fairly lax service. We werent welcomed upon arrival and essentially had to find our own place to sit and work our the ordering proccess for ourselves. When we ordered something from the menu, the waitress said Uh... I dont know if we have any of that left, not sure and didnt go to check... So we ordered something else, but it would have been good to know for sure.
Great friendly service and delicious food. Highly recommended.
Great atmosphere and great food. Pancakes are delicious and a great size as are the burgers. Shame you cant pay by card but thats not the end of the world
Had to wait an hour to get a table on a Saturday but was totally worth it. The food is excellent, big portions and great vegetarian/vegan selection. Lovely cozy place and great customer service. Cant wait to come back again and try the pancakes!
Really enjoyed my visit. V friendly staff, nice building. Burger was excellent and reasonable price. Highly recommended milkshakes, I had the Oreo my pal had (2, ahem) peanut M and M. Yum. Definitely worth a visit. Breakfast options looked good too with pancakes and maple syrup etc.
Great menu. good service. attention to detail. always freshly prepared and presented so nicely
After some customers being super rude and saying how bad the service was. I thought otherwise, food was great and service was perfect. Thank you.
Gorgeous little restaurant. Vintage/60s vibe. Food was tasty and seasoned really well. Food generous portion sizes. It is quite small, but cosy. All hand prepared and cooked. Reasonably priced. Great customer service.
Really a nice place to have a breakfast :) person who took our order was very humble. (Never expected)One must visit if they are near Hastings old town (sea front)I Recommend !!!!!!!
Quirky place on the seafront of Hastings Old Town. Fabulous choice of breakfasts with USA / Mexican influence, reasonably priced and plenty portions. An expresso option would have given them 5 stars. Book for breakfast as seating is limited. Sit outside on a nice day and watch the mad fishing town wake up.
This was my first visit to Pelicans. I went for breakfast with friends, advisable to book as it wasnt long before every day was filled. All the food we ordered was delicious, beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. I would definitely visit again and intend to work my way through the menu π
The pancakes...omg..made in paradise I guess...the best I have ever had so far that I dream about it even now..I wouldnt mind making a trip to this part of the country again just to try them again. If you visit Hastings you have to try this place.
Good food, good service, good location.
Had the banoffee pancakes. They were delicious. Friendly staff. Cute diner. Love it. Highly recommended. π₯
Food was cooked perfectly, especially the poached eggs which were served lovely and hot. Friendly and helpful service. Will definitely be eating there again.
If you love big fluffy American style pancakes, great eggs and milkshakes then head here. But be warned, its v popular!
Perfect feel good. Quirky/artsy decor and gluten free catering options. One of the best burgers in Hastings
It is what it is at the Pelican. Food is blooming nice, the service is questionable and the actual restaurant is in need of a good scrub. But as long as you can accept you may not get a smile when you walk through the door and there may be a few old pancakes under your feet, youll leave satisfied.Saying that, we did feel sorry for the waitress when we left as you could hear her telling customers they were short staffed plus the card machine was giving her grief; I think it was one of those days!We had the vegan burger (as they were still making the jackfruit chili when we arrived) and it was delicious. Really tasted fresh and homemade and came served with well seasoned fries and a salad. There was actually a lot of choice for vegans and vegetarians on the menu so well worth a visit.
Awesome pancakes....avocado eggs with salsa superb. Really friendly and great music too! X
Fab diner experience. Food is delicious and nice friendly service. Good sized portions. Would love to go again
As a vegan i had plenty of choice & really lovely food. well worth an hour round trip for me to come back to Hastings just to eat here!
First visit, best to book as restaurant is small, and very popular.Plenty of options on the menu, particularly the various ways pancakes are served.I had pancakes, yoghurt, fruit, excellent, I shall return.
I did rate this place to be friendly and welcoming and great food, however I was totally shocked this morning when we arrived 10 mins before opening, we decided to sit and wait outside with the menu waiting until the staff were ready! A female member of staff came out and was so rude to myself be 3 others totally unprofessional because we sat down to wait, she went on to slam the doors closed and swore at us . At that point we got up and left to eat somewhere a lot more welcoming. I cannot believe the way we as paying customers were treated, also in front of some other potential customers .... shocking...
Great local diner on the sea front. Check out the Chilli Dog and shakes! Got our order wrong during busy lunch, however quickly sorted out by waitress. Great vibes, great fries, totally recommended.
We just had some hot drinks while we were at the pelican, we didnt eat any food. The staff were really friendly, the position is really good as well right on the seafront. We had a relaxing short break here and we didnt feel uncomfortable with not ordering any food.
There is a little wait but well worth it, food is delicious and good portions
Fantastic breakfast with fresh produce, tasty choices efficient and friendly service. Highly recommend.
Ive eaten in here and its always been such good food and service. However this morning myself and 3 others didnt have a warm welcome at all. Very rude and aggressive staff member that was very unprofessional and shouted at me for looking through the Menu. We sat outside in the sun and were quite happy to look at the Menu until the staff member was ready to serve. She swore at my son and slammed the wooden doors. So we left and ate breakfast somewhere else that were more welcoming and not rude !!
Great small place to eat on the seafront. Decor and food feel authentic American, as would be expected. Prices are good, and food tastes great. I would however, say that tables were a little small.
Regular haunt. American style diner. Good quality, very friendly staff
Great spot for breakfast down by the shore. Also, they serve milkshakes for breakfast.
A lovely place to stop off for breakfast. Very limited amount of seating indoors but it was a joy to sit outside and look over the beach. Quality American style pancakes and bacon.
Quirky, friendly, great place for breakfast on a sunny morning. Get there early though as its popular
Friendly welcome and excellent food. Totally enjoyable experience.
Fabulous brunch type food, the best in hastings in my view
Great place, good coffee and really good food. Caters well for special dietary requirements.
If you want to go for a decent brilliant breakfast in Eastbourne this is the place to go if I could give it any more stars I would do
Promised the kids pancakes and this was the only place open on a Sunday morning. Met with a friendly hello and menus brought out to our table.Good selection of pancakes - plain Janes were plenty enough for kids and milkshakes were large and creamy - sugarfest!Word of note though - cash only, no card facilities but there is a free cash point around the corner.
I usually have a good experience here and even brag that it is one of my favourite places to eat. However today I was made to feel incredibly uncomfortable by the staff who stared at my self and my party as though we were stray cats. They were incredibly vague and barely interacted with us, I am almost glad that they were full up as I was put off eating here. I have never had this issue with their staff before however wont be rushing back again so soon.
I love this place, great breakfast options and a quirky little seating area
Whether it be the tex mex, halo eggs or lumberjack breakfast and these are just a few of the many fantastic flavours available to tantalise your tastebuds.Visit often for breakfast and pancakes and T dont forget about T.Really friendly staff make for what is an awesome diner on the seaside.

It was really nice.... the portions are well worth the money, would 10/10 go there again
Wel worth a visit. Great staff. Tasty food.value for money . wil be visiting again ππ
Really good burger meal every time we go to Pelican Diner
Awesome food, good size portions and lovely staff. Sometimes a bit of a wait on food/no tables if you dont book but thats just because its popular
First choice for breakfast and Im fussy. Dogs welcome. Staff are lovely.
To start with, the place looks intriguing at first sight..narrow, kind of typical English seaside restaurant. Foodwise, nothing exceptional but definitely good, fulfilling portions and reasonable prices. Great for breakfast/brunch! If youre walking around the old town, worths a stop
Amazing food, and they are not shy with there portions you pay for what you get 5*****
Lovely food and friendly service.
Very expensive here Β£12 for a normal burger and chips however very good food and friendly service.
Brilliant food and great service x
Very tasty food, great milkshakes too, the staff are really nice and it is in a good location
