So so lovely! It is such a nice time, the staff is so sweet! AND ITS FREE! I drove 3 Hours just to visit this cute museum by the beach. Totally recommend.
Exhibits are changed on a regular basis. Plan on spending a couple of hours there! There is lot to see and enjoy in this charming little art museum. Free admission, donations welcome. They have a very nice menu in the little cafe located inside of the museum, just in case you get hungry!
It’s not huge but it is free! At the time I visited they had a variety of collections that were each interesting. The bathrooms alone are worth the trip.
Pictures are posted now of their Art Cafe food cart at Village Green concert/food carts night. You must visit this amazing Arts Center itself. If the food cart is this cool, you really cant even begin to imagine what the Arts Center is like! Visit and enjoy the real Art Cafe there : )Employees there are all amazingly wonderful and helpful. Gift shop has really unique and appropriately priced items. Ive purchased so many birthday gifts here through the years. They also have superb classes, programs, concerts, plays, and other events.Thank you to the Kohler family, Ruth and Herb and all, for making this delightful place possible.
Friendly staff, neat art. The grounds are beautiful. I especially appreciated the section of cultural mapping and the inclusion of childrens work. The gift shop is also excellent.
Great works by local artists and well displayed. The bathrooms are designed as well which is pretty cool. Stop here and then take a walk along the pier area.
A well-presented gallery for mostly contemporary art. At the time of my visit, there were a few exhibitions on, most of which had something interesting to offer. There were wonderful wood carvings by Bernard Langlais, and a few of his paintings. The museum has really worked hard on displaying these in a complementary environment with interpretation that helps you understand the artists life and work. It was especially pleasant to see a display of childrens art inspired by some of the work in the gallery. I didnt care for the filmed installation, but perhaps that highlights my ignorance more than any shortcoming on the part of the curators. The grounds are also worth a visit, as theres some outdoor sculpture there, some pretty flower gardens, the Kohler House and the remains of the Carnegie Library to be seen.
Awesome experience 👏 I highly recommend a viewing, you will want to return !
Very nicely laid-out museum. I thought the little art room was a lovely touch.
Really enjoyed the day. So much was going on in the area. The Art Festival was Fantastic with do many talented artists.
Beautiful place to walk around and see all the outdoor exhibits. Highly recommend the little fairy garden area tucked away on the one side. A wonderful end to a day of exploring Sheboygan.
Wonderfully knowledgeable docent shared interesting background on exhibits. The smaller size of museum refreshes the senses rather than overwhelming them.
If I could give more stars I would. This place is incredible. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The cafe had a good variety of well priced food that was delicious! The gift shop has fun things for kids to pick out as well as well as a great variety of books. The exhibits were a perfect introduction for my kids to art and museum etiquette. And this month they had artwork up from local schools which was really cool to see.We ended in the artery where my kids were able to create their own artwork. They have various stations set up to sketch and create.Such a good experience.
Everyone was very nice and inforative. Cool exhibits and a gift shop and cafe. We did the art soci which is a must!
Its FREE. Not crowded. Quiet, safe, tranquil, stimulating.
Love, love, love the JMKAC... Beautiful art, fantastic festivals, great music, delicious food, what more could a person ask for.
It is a treasure trove in the middle of Sheboygan. The cafe is eclectic and amazing. Be sure to put the Art Preserve on your radar...it is world class
I wouldn’t recommend this place, security staff is rude and disrespectful. Customer service is mediocre at best. If you are not rich they don’t give you any attention or help if you need it.Security staff yells at kids And handicap guests. The parking lot is only available to rich guests and personnel that make large donations to the company everyone else has to park on the street or blocks away. Would strongly recommend not going here
I know Kohlers HQ is nearby, but no one talks about the museum and the bathrooms here. Its so amazing and unique to see what theyve done in each of the bathrooms. The art exhibits are really great too. I never thought I would see such interesting and amazing art in Sheboygan. This is definitely a must stop if youre ever in the area. I will definitely make sure to stop anytime Im in the area.
What a gem for the state. Every visit to this place has been fantastic. Well curated outsider art. This center would ride in any major art city. Thank you guys for the gift you’ve given to Wisconsin!
Just cant say enought positives. Got to see the works of art in the bathrooms.
Incredibly friendly greeting staff. Bathroom installations are great. Really enjoyed the thought provoking installations and immersive experiences, especially The Autotopographers series. I could spend a day with each of Dr. Charles Smiths figures getting to know them. So engaging and brought diversity needed to overall space. Beautiful gardens with hidden treasures. Glad I had the time to check it out.
Very good facility with great exposition.
Came here for the art festival and it was nice
Smaller but charming art museum. i was here when they had iris haussler’s “apt 4” on exhibit years ago. “apt 4” is by far my current favorite art exhibit of all time. sheboygan is a beautiful scenic lakeside smaller wisconsin city and this art museum gives this city its own unique charm and character. the bathrooms inside this museum are also worth checking out; this is one of the few places where you might actually want to check out all the bathrooms because theyre all designed differently. the only thing i found distracting during my visit was that there was some kind of class in session for elementary school aged kids inside the museum the day i visited; not sure if that was a field trip for that day. admission was free when i visited.
Very nice art museum with cool restrooms and great childrens art exhibit.
Loved it, super cute art museum, loved the glass room and the bathrooms are beautiful, theyre each done by a different independent artist any theyre so kewl.
Excellent small museum featuring several modern artists.
Great museum in downtown Sheboygan
Wonderful in every respect. Check out the very cool bathrooms. Very friendly staff. Well be back.
Wonderful greeter at Desk assisted tremendously.
100% worth a stop. Be sure to go with at least an hour to spare over the top of your tour to participate in one of the community art projects.
Fun, facinating
I had the best time here! I cannot wait to go back. The cafe has great food so you dont even have to leave. Its a bit pricey, but its really good and convenient. Go when the monarchs are outside!
I adore this place! i’ve been coming here ever since i was younger. every exhibit and installation has been amazing, the winter events are wonderful and the staff is always so kind! i love the café food and i visit whenever i get the chance.
Great space and learning experience. Got a bag of free take home projects!
Yesterday Lisa and Molly at the front desk greeted us like old friends. They gave us guidance on the Art Center and folk art sites beyond. In fact, all the staff were friendly and helpful. The exhibits were delightful and intriguing. Dont miss seeing all the bathrooms. Lunch on the patio was tasty and fun.
Dig the Artery! Provides anyone a free opportunity to express their artistic side. Staff is very sweet as well. Happy that theres a place like this that is free. Gift shop is way too expensive
Hands down my FAVORITE place to visit, beautiful thought provoking art in a warm and welcoming environment!
Very interesting artworks. Staff was very friendly and informative on the artists collections.
Very nice exhibition!
The art center always has an interesting collection of a variety of art styles. Its collections and displays generally feature self taught artists each using different mediums in their respective creations. Several different displays in different rooms change several times throughout the year. They also have a variety of programming.
Always s nice place to visit
A beautiful building filled with interesting folk art. The gift shop has something special for all ages. I was able to surprise my friend with a quick stop in the bathroom. She had no idea that it is an artwork itself. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back in the Spring.
Best small town art museum ever! Theres always free hands on art project to do for all ages and the people are super friendly! Dont miss this place summer or winter! In the summer be sure you tour the outdoor gardens and cool sculptures too!
Great Art exhibits, obviously. But also hosts community theatre. Saw a performance of Frozen Jr. by Dare to Dream Theatre (under 18). Great time, show and venue!
The facilities and grounds here (especially the gardens) are really beautiful, at least in summer, and the cafes menu is an outstanding collection of fusion-style sandwiches and such. The permanent exhibitions that the museum maintains are heavily weighted toward a quirky stripe of folk art, which cuts down on variety. Your enjoyment of the museum may depend on how much you resonate with that particular type of collection. (Hence the four stars).
Always a treat. Excellent installations. Im looking forward to The Preserve opening so we can see even more of the collection.
Excellent experience! Beautiful contemporary artwork
Great free museum. New and interesting exhibits. An enjoyable place to spend the day. It has a cafe with both indoor and outside dining and a large gift shop.
Great place to go to get your culture fix with great art pieces, beautiful gardens and the coolest bathrooms in North America. It was a pleasure to poo in your exhibit, Sheboygan. 5 stars out of 5.
What a gem! It makes us feel good every time we come here. The building design is warm and innovative, with parts of the original building. The art is clever, impressive, and accessible. We sometimes do a day trip from Chicago and make this a must visit.
Amazing. So much beautiful art and friendly workers. Havent gone to an art center in years and Im glad this was the first one to reignite my love for art. Would recommend to anyone to visit.
JMKAC is a gem in this community. They do a wonderful job of bringing art and artists to the community enriching countless lives, especially children. My only complaint, and I cant quite explain it, is that it doesnt feel as accessible as some other venues. There is an air of snobbishness or exclusivity that I feel, but cannot prove.
It is not easy to take small children through the art gallery. It was hard even with our 4 young grandkids who were well behaved. They just wanted to get to close to the exhibits.
With a focus on folk/outsider artists, this museum is loaded with fun and quirky art. Exhibits change, so you always get a bit of a surprise. Make a point of finding all the restrooms. . .each one is something special! Theres a nice little cafe and a terrific museum as well.
Shown on cable for worlds best bathrooms each is unique and customized by kohler. You can tour any bathroom by asking an employee. The art is very unusual at the facility. Admission is free (although donations are suggested) and the gift shop is really nice and somewhat reasonable. They also host a quality art show.
Amazing art
Great place! Always getting in new exhibits every 6 to 8 months and putting on shows, viewings and activities for all ages to do. Always something to see or do there.
Beautiful and interesting. Some renovations of some exhibits. The bathrooms were very artistic and fun!
Interesting exhibits. Loved the restrooms! Maybe not a place to visit with kids unless eating at the cafe or taking art classes.
I wanted to volunteer but of course you need an appointment to do that! I meant I wanted to volunteer to at the library actually... After not being able to volunteer at the Library I started to walk home in the freezing with only a sweater, leggings, and boots I stopped at the art center to warm up, because I could barely feel my fingers. So I waited for my mom to walk over get me, because I did not know the way home and I looked in the gift shop while I was waiting for my mom she can to get me and brought me my coat, scarf, and gloves and then we walked home in the freezing cold 😞. I hated that. The gift shop is way too exspensive! I had no money with me, but if I did have money with me, I would not buy anything because too pricey!!!! 😒why is everything in the gift shop so exspensive tho?!?! The prices are outrageous!!!
Loved it! What a wonderful fibers exhibit and of course the bathrooms, it is Kohler after all.
Beautiful, unique place to visit. Helpful staff and a free art creating event my daughter and I could enjoy together!! :)
Full of cool art.
I just visited the free craft area and had a great time even with young children in tow.
Loved the autotopoqgraphies display. Amazing! Dr. Charles Smith Aurora sculpture exhibit is fascinating. Really enjoyed it.
Small little place and mostly everything was modern art that just doesnt make any sense. The kids paintings were really good though.
A wonderful art collection but the part my granddaughter loves is the creation area.
Beautiful museum with various types of artwork. Great classes, Café, and shop. Love the summertime music on Thursdays, and the free monthly PBS movies. Best of all this place is donation sponsored so literally anyone can visit. Dont forget to check out the famous bathrooms while you’re there!
I took a trip to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center abd I had a blast! All of the exhibits were very entertaining. Go there now to see an interactive exhibit of sorts. I will say no more so you can have a full experience yourself. Currently there is a artist who paints signs there. I was quite interesting to learn the history of hand painted signs. Hope you can make it there!
Beautiful facility and kind staff. Incredible artwork and artist that change out every few months. Even my 14 year old and 9 year old loved it.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Arts and craft room for children was great!!
This place is amazing for the bathrooms alone. The exhibits were also great. They put on a well run art show in the summer.
The idea of exhibits based on artists environments is a fascinating one and the concept is handled very well here. Will certainly return. One of the better museum gift shops Ive seen in recent years too!
We go here for school all the time. People who work there are great, as well as the apmosphere is wonderful. The food in the Café can get a little pricey, but its good.
Visually stunning exhibits! You have to see all the bathrooms too, theyre amazing.
