The whole library is a book store! You can find anything, its really great. They have great sections for all genres, and a huge records section. They have childrens books, games, comics, all sorts of great stuff. I always find treasures. The paperbacks are usually $1.50 And the hard covers are $3.00.
This is what a bookstore should be. A huge rotating selection, a friendly enthusiastic and helpful staff, and located in a clean accessible building. Definitely worth the stop.
It would be great if you would update your hours to show that you are closed and moving. My 3 star review is to get your attention...
Lots of books... great selection. Friendly staff. I always leave w an armful of books and only spend a fraction of new books.
Used bookstore in the new Wheaton Library / Community Center complex. Absolutely amazing prices - they’ll put a smile on your face because they seem exactly what a used book price should be all about! Paperbacks seemed to mostly be $1 / $1.50 and hardcovers $3. If you are looking for something specific, definitely ask first. The fiction organization is tidy and alphabetical by author but odd. Unfortunately, despite the lack of much of a price difference, they separate hardcovers from paperbacks and then further separate the sizable “general fiction” from the sizable”mystery/thriller” and that differentiation seems fairly random with titles I’d classify in one section easily in the other so you’ll end up looking in 4 places. The staff were extremely friendly and were furiously working pricing and organizing books while I was there. So, overall you can’t beat it!
This is, hands down, one of the very best bookstores in the Greater Washington, D.C. Area. The volunteer staff are very helpful and friendly, and there are always hidden gems - such as brand new/near perfect exhibition catalogues - to be found on a consistent basis. The only drawback is the preponderance of re-sellers. They can be quite aggressive, which is disappointing for true book lovers. For example, they systematically scan all books using an IPhone app to identify rare books that are subsequently re-sold via Amazon, etc. This can lead to a lot of disappointment because the re-sellers grab excellent books regardless of the subject matter, which depletes the store’s inventory of publications (that might otherwise find perfect homes with the general public).Highly recommended!
Could easily spend all day here! Came here to find books on calligraphy and only found 1 but left with some other goodies. A wide selection and great prices!
Incredible place. All the books are between about $1 and $5. Everything is donated, and they basically only charge enough to pay a staff to price and organize them (and handle checkout). Great place to poke around without anything particular in mind, great place to find rare and out of print stuff, and great place to pick up really nice editions of classics (my personal favorite). Highly recommended.
Super cheap bookstore with books on pretty much any topic. Im pretty sure the books are ones that have been retired from the local library. There are some really old books. I bought one from the early 1950s that is a guide to Japan. Most of the books are just a few dollars. There are also DVDs, records, sheet music, and CDs.
Very nice collections of books that are affordable. The staffs are very helpful and everything is well organized. I highly recommend it for everyone.
Great place with a bunch of books! It was a lot bigger than I initially thought. Theres a small parking lot in front and a larger one behind so they have ample parking. There are handicap parking spots and automatic buttons for the front doors so its fully accessible for anyone with a physical disability.
Great used book store where proceeds support the public library! They have an awesome selection of kids books -- even in various foreign languages due to the international population around Silver Spring.A lot of adult books too, well organized with an interesting selection of books recommended by staff near the entrance. The friendly staff and volunteers accept your donations of books and DVDs at the front desk and give tax receipts.
Love coming here. I love to read and this place the entire family comes basically every week. If you haven’t stopped by yet you should. The entire staff are so nice & they know their books.
This is a great place to get lost while looking for a few great reads! I highly recommend a visit if you enjoy perusing through books, DVDs, CDs, and records. The staff does their best to keep things organized, and you can find things if you know what you are looking for and arent looking for any new bestselling books. Also, cant beat the prices at $2 or 3 for most books. Go for a visit and support the MoCo library system!
The book store collection is still building, but already has some high quality picks. As it is purpose built, I think it may be a little easier to find things in this store than other fol stores.
Imagine a Barnes and Nobles and a library had a baby. This is it. Huge selection, tons of books, super cheap, an absolute gold mine. Every city, town, campsite, and truck stop should have one.
I go to this thrift book store every few months with my friend to get tons of books. They have a really broad variety and even if they dont have the book, youll probably find it in there after a few days if you request it.Id recommend anyone to go to this book store, and trust me, youll end up probably piling a cart of books whenever you pay a visit or at least enough to fill your hands up.
I love love love this book store. I havent seen so many of my beloved classic sci fi novels in one place. It felt so good to go home with a box of books I hate to think how much I would have spent if Id been able to stay longer. I live far away so this will be a go to spot Everytime Im back this way.
The bookstore of bookstores. You always find book dealers there. That tells you how good are their prices and their ever changing inventory. You will be hard pressed to find cheaper prices or even better quality. Staff are helpful and cheerful. Excellent place for children as well.
Friendly. Kind. Helpful. And the best deals from all 4 directions. How some music makes your heart pitter patter. This place will give you a kind pitter patter. 2 thumbs plus a few up.
Great place to buy used books, music or movies and a worthy place to donate yours when you are done with them. Be sure you have plenty of time to look through everything. You never know what you may discover.
I have always wanted to read The who came in from the cold. It was a great price $3 for a hard cover version from 1963. The original owner felt compelled to write in the authors real name. This was John Leclaire first novel. He had to use a fake name since he was still working in the foreign service.
They did not have the book I wanted but a great place. I will definitely go back.
Best used bookstore Ive ever been to! Very cheap with a distinct library feel!
Found some great book treasures here for great prices. Great prices and nice staff!
The books are pretty good but the staff always seem to be soooo cranky! I smile to piss them off. One girl seems nice ~ but that’s it.
One of my favorite places to visit. I already have more books than shelf space but I can always find something else and I can donate books Ive read
One of my absolute favorite used bookstores. And I love being able to support friends of the montgomery county library too!
Used to be phenomenal. They have jacked up prices to exhorbiant amounts. For example an old childrens book could fetch you $5 whereas it used to be $0.50 to a dollar. You would do better shopping on Amazon used sellers.
Not a library - its a used bookstore that supports the MoCo library system. The library itself moved further downtown. Former library books and donated books are available for as little as 50 cents, and they accept donations of old books. My kids love coming here, and there are some great finds. The only issue is that the building itself is very old and a bit dilapidated, with a musty scent (though partly due to the old books!) and uncomfortable restrooms. Bonus is a park next door with a mixture of great equipment for toddlers and more challenging equipment for older kids.
Great place to find an amazing selection of books for all ages.
Ive been going to this place since 1988. Always the highlight of my day. Its moved from Wheaton library which is being rebuilt as I write this. Never had a problem here, know the staff well, always like to visit and say hi whenever I can. I recommend it to anyone in the area on a budget who likes to buy in store for less than anywhere else I know of, period. There is also a Rockville branch. All the money goes to Montgomery county libraries, so no worries there. My mom worked as a librarian in Montgomery for 24 yrs., so libraries and bookstores are my second home.
I literally hope they never ever move this location away. Time passes too quickly in this store; it completely captivates you, there’s so many great things to find here!
Book browsers paradise. Shelf upon shelf of books, many in like-new condition. Also CDs, LPs, games and puzzles. Low prices, friendly staff. A Friends of the Library membership card gets you a 10% discount. Two stores - one in Rockville, one in Silver Spring - each with its own vibe. Among my favorite places in Montgomery County MD.
Fewer and fewer good book stores, 5-star shout-out to Friends of the Library for maintaining theirs. Cant wait for the new Wheaton Regional Library to open with good space for used book sales.
I lived in Silver Spring for 2 years and had no idea this musty little gem existed. It smells of a sweet sweet used book store, and it has a great selection.
Very helpful staff, huge selection of affordable books.
Great collection of books. Great prices!!
Great place for quality used books and the sales go to support the new downtown library. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and they really try to organize all the books to make it easy to find something your looking for.
No longer a library but a pretty good used bookstore.
Silver Spring location Permanently closed. They have moved to their new location in the new Wheaton library.
Purchased some of my favorite novels here. The staff were very helpful. Can be a bit cluttered, but not too difficult to find what you are looking for.
Love the place! Great prices, selection and hours!
Lots of good books here. Helpful staff. Free parking.
