Pleasantly surprised. Good selection considering the location on a small annex. They had a decent amount of “import” goods (like German cookies). Produce was fresh and well stocked. Odd layout and somewhat disorganized shelves but overall worth the drive over from Bethesda in my opinion.

There is always ample parking, the fruit and vegetable are fresh. Very nice selection of baked goods, and when everybody else out the gate is short of certain things, the Forest Glen Commissary usually has it.The staff is very helpful and it is refreshing to see the same people day in and day out.

Went to the Commissary on a Sunday. The gate google wanted me to take was not open so had to go around. Google was a bit turned around so had to back track a bit. The parking lot is all one way roads. There seemed to be no cart return things either. The commissary is fairly well stocked for being a smaller one. Found most of the stuff I needed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The building was alot colder than I was prepared for. They have a deli inside, not sure if they make sandwiches, there was no signage. I noticed there was no basket for the baggers tips. Overall pretty normal commissary. Way better prices than other stores!

What’s NOT to like? If eligible, do try. Small but we’ll stocked as far as Defense Commissaries go.

Havent been there in years and was pleasantly surprised. Commissary was clean, produce laid out neatly looking very fresh. Aisles were clearly marked making shopping easy. Found and got everything I had on my list except for one minor item. I plan to go back again when my pantry looks empty.

I can afford my food and paying with Cash app saved me ten percent,lol. Love it isnt busy like other commissaries, where baggers were competing with customers. I never liked a bagger to bag my groceries, its too expensive for me, every time five dollars, I cant plus when I was in the Army, they sometimes forgot to bag my stuff, and I lost money or had to go back, but mostly lost money. I rather save my money and bag what I buy, thats how it is in Germany too, where I grew up and its also not normal to me that another adult bags my purchases. Im not a baby or dyingly old that I cannot handle what I pay for. Also,this is nice and slow in there, and prices are very good. As many things right now, the pandemic jacked the prices up in everything. But Im grateful as a retiree that I can get my food and stroll.

Visits to FGC (Forest Glen Commissary) have been infrequent. Recently, FGC have improved in convenience and best prices. For that, I give FGC more repeat shopping visits and 5 stars. Happy Shopping 🛍☺!!

My favorite because its a hidden gem. Never too busy. They have a decent produce section. It is not as big as others but I can find the majority of things I need. I really enjoy the customer service. I have been going to this commisary on and off for the last 8 years and never experienced long lines while there.

Ive been going here for over 30 years. I love this commissary! They always have the food I am looking for, both American and international selections. some of the cashiers, other employees, and personnel that bag groceries, are the same ones for as long as Ive been coming here. It is always nice to be taken care of by such kind and caring, family-oriented employees.

Of all of the Defense Commissaries in the Washington Metro Area, the Forest Glen Commissary is the best in terms of selections and customer service. From the deli, to the bakery, to produce, to seafood and meats, to checkout and bagging, there is no better (or less expensive) place to do your food shopping. You do have to have a valid DoD ID card to shop in the commissary.

Although this commissary is small it has most of what you need. I was in and out in a matter of 45 mins. The only thing that needs updating is how to gain access to the facility the Google maps is out of date and it takes you to a gate that isnt occupied.

This commissary is convenient for eligible patrons who live/work in the area, but its small and often poorly stocked. Its still a good store, but youll most likely need to use a backup store for certain items.

Shopped here on 1 April 2020 and learned that No Early Bird Hours until further notice does not mean that the commissary has doe away with the 09-11 period exclusively for At Risk (over 60 yrs?) individuals. Still screening out visitors during all hours (100% ID card check). New Local Rule: Cannot bring your personal shopping bags into the commissary.

Great Commissary. Only one close to NMMC Bethesda.

This Commissary is on an active military base and is not open to the public. On the weekend there is only one gate open but it isnt really that much out of the way. Prices are competitive with the outside. Some are better but many grocery stores have sales that beat the commissary prices.

Probably one of the better commissaries out there. There is rarely ever a line. Store is clean and organized. They have upgraded the self checkout too.

Maybe there is a new manager or something. But this commissary used to be great. Now, not so good. The last three times I have come, they are out of stock on most things I am shopping for.

This is probably called a medium size commissary, but it has everything that you find in a large one...even a deli counter. Cant ask for more.

Good prices, especially for packaged, frozen, and non perishable items. Deli counter can also make delicious paninis. Unfortunately the produce section often has moldy or low quality items. Good for your other shopping needs, just not my go-to place for produce. Also somewhat inconvenient to get to, since the gate right next to it is never open for incoming traffic (and only open for outgoing traffic a few hours on week days).

This may not be the biggest or the best commissary in the area, but its mine! I am very loyal to this commissary. The staff here go above and beyond. Being stationed here for five years now, Ive gotten to know many of them on a first name basis. They might not have all the bells and whistles, but they have everything you need at amazing prices. I recommend going in the off pay weeks as prices seem to drop. I recommend this facility to all my soldiers and sailors!

Very, very small organic selection. Produce section is never very good. I consistently end up throwing away packaged spinach by end of week because it gets slimy. Asparagus usually soft and limp. Squash and zucchini small and dented, gouged. These are all the norm. Worse of all is I find expired baby food each week. You must check the dates on everything in the store; I find expired items in nearly every section. Consistently out of items; almost always have to go to Giant to finish shopping. But even with the $7 or $8 surcharge at the commissary, we still shop there because it is always a lot cheaper than Giant. But I think half of that is because Giant has such a larger selection - we spend less at the commissary because we find less to choose from.

The prices are good BUT you have to look at every items expiration date. Much of the food is close to or at its expiration. This causes one to spend way too much time there. The meat selection is not good at all.

3.5 stars. I like the commissary, but sometimes they are out of things, more often than I think they should be. Went in on NYE and only a few boneless pork shoulders, no bone in shoulders, and no ribs. Also, the ice cream section was decimated, couldnt find coffee ice cream. Staff for the most part are friendly, and you cant beat the prices!

Great prices! They tend to run low on certain items as they get close to delivery day, so be sure to plan out your visit after that to have the most choices available.

Probably the Armys best kept secret. A small commissary that is well stocked. Best of all is its location in a little known Army garrison, nearby Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. (Forest Glen Annex)

Used to be mobbed, but with gated and secure access, easy parking, great holiday selection, and easy checkout. Also near the National Medical History Museum.

An old Deca Commissary that seems to keep it together. Good selection for such a small Commissary. Unfortunately 3 of the last five times I have been there I have witnessed internal loss by the employees. Personally think this store needs to clean sweep a good portion of staff or this will probably continue.

Due to the convenient location (close to home and eork), I enjoy shopping at the commissary on a weekly basis.I would love to see them open on Monday.I would also like to see a collection area for the shopping carts in the parking lot.

Produce here is often bad before you buy it. Hours are bad and they are closed Mondays and early on the weekend. This store is old and ready for an update. They also charge a maintenance tax. There are some good buys and it can be a good resource. Just check and make sure things you buy here are not expired.

Today was quiet shopping at the Forest Glen Commissary. I was even able to get a handicap parking place in front. I love shopping here.

Yes, this commissary is small and very out dated. However the management and staff are exceptional! I only gave 4 stars because the produce and meat departments could be better. Overall great for dry goods and basics that do not expire quickly. Not good for meat and produce.

If its your first time going here, dont use this address on google. Type Commissary Way instead.It is a nice small commissary, compared to the ones in Belvoir or Meade though it has the basic essentials. I also like that its not very crowded.

Food prices are good but you have to watch the expiration dates of the things you buy. We have not been paying attention and have purchased a few things that where already out of date, or where expiring very soon.

Small, but great prices on produce and specialty products comparative to the surrounding area. The baggers who only work for tips have been pretty rude and slow.

This is an old building and very small. A few years ago, they closed the adjoining OF. They should have moved some of the Commissary into that area. But they have not. I suggest they do so so that the Commissary can offer more choices.

A full size commissary that is little known as a result of its location. It has all the basics and NONE of the jammed isle ways and two mile long check-out lines. The meat dept although somewhat small has a little of everything and very helpful attendants if you have special requests.

Standard military commissary, they have almost everything you would expect from a grocery.

Some of the few vegies available are not fresh or are inapropiately refrigeranted, an asumption made by looking and tasting their (as example) bananas.

This is a basic military commissary. There are 2 others in the area at Meade andAndrews but this one is closest to the Silver Spring side of D.C. Not very large but you can get all your basics and a few specialty household items.

Your standard commissary. Its a little harder to get a due to being on s very small installation.
