I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The service was outstanding and I only wait 5 min for my food. The diner is well staffed and there are many people bustling around to take all the orders.I enjoyed a very nice banana bread French toast and delicious bacon. I would definitely come back in the future. Just be aware this place is popular and expect a wait during busy times on weekends etc…
First time coming through to Sioux Falls and we stopped by for some quick breakfast. This is a cute little diner and the food was exceptional. Not to mention the service as well! We were lucky to be served by Jen and she was very nice and super attentive to us. We recommend this place to anyone, if you’re looking into enjoying a nice breakfast.
If I could give it less I would. First, the guy cooking had a knit beanie on that looked like it had never been washed. Management seemed busy entertaining young men. The chicken sandwich was so dry and over cooked, I could not cut it in half. My friends tenders you could have used for weapons. Never again.
Had a wonderful experience when there as we always do will continue to return everytime we go to Sioux Falls..I was really impressed with Jordan while there he was great he was outside inside calling out guests names holding the door open for guests when going in and out calling names.. Was very busy when we was there had less then a 30 minute wait everyone there did a great job getting guests in and sat.Jordan was working all over he was seating guests and delivering meals to tables and had a wonderful customer attitude made sure nothing else was needed at the tables when dropping off the food he was making malts and doing everything while we was there I was very impressed with him.. hes a great and hard worker! And very friendly great customer service he gave!
I do love this place and eat there semi frequently. Always good food and service, but today I did a To go order and there was nice hair in the chicken, definitely not mine. I called to tell them about it and they just said Im not sure how it got there no one in the kitchen matches that sorry and hung up. Would have liked to seen a little more responsibility when its someones HAIR in your food and now you cant eat it. If I was sitting in the restaurant, I doubt I would have gotten that same response...or maybe I would have?
Neat little diner in the middle of downtown. Burger was very good, fries were average, and got a chocolate malt. $6 for 12 ounces and about 4 inches of whipped cream. Good food and service. Will go back.
Great place to meet friends for breakfast and coffee. Wonderful pancakes 🥞!
***FYI***This restaurant will throw away your children’s stainless steel plate if you forget it. I assume they will throw away all possessions if they are left. I forgot it at the restaurant around 11am, I called by 3pm and they “disposed of it”. They didn’t apologize. They didn’t offer to get it out of the trash. They didn’t offer to replace it. All restaurants should have a lost and found. My 18 month old distracted me and I left her plate. Now I’m out money, because they couldn’t be bothered to hold a plate for a few hours.
Terrific place right in the heart of Downtown Sioux Falls. Great service, great food. They were busy but still we enjoyed it and will make this a place we go back to for sure!
One of the best places in downtown Sioux Falls. Creative menu, cool staff.
The Phillips Avenue Diner provides a consistently great experience. From the shakes to the burgers there is always something to enjoy for lunch. There is also great breakfast options.
Ordered the Poutine with pulled pork on the side. Cheese curds did not squeak = not fresh. The gravy... salty and clumpy... ugh... ☹️Unfortunately, better tasting chili at Wendy. This chili was greasy and missing flavor.Strawberry banana shake was pretty good. Cute diner.A tad pricey for quality of food. Left unsatisfied and got take out elsewhere.
Great flavorful breakfast!! however... brought wrong order first then brought correct one about 10 minutes later food ended up getting cold waiting for the other guests breakfast that was there with me. It showed up about 10 minutes after mine, I feel its rude to eat by yourself so I waited.
This diner was just the perfect place to grab breakfast on a snowy wintery morning. The staff was kind and helpful with their knowledge of the menu. I think I got what was call the 2+2+2 which included 2 pieces of crunchy bacon, 2 eggs, and 2 pieces of french toast. It was delicious!! I would definitely come back to this place if I am near downtown.
Everything was super delicious! Kind of on the pricer side because it’s in a downtown area but it was so worth it! I would definitely recommend trying their take on the Canadian classic “poutine” it’s was fantastic!
Great service and delicious burgers/fries. I had a classic with American cheese. Cant explain why it was so good! 😸
Cozy diner in downtown Sioux Falls. The atmosphere in here is great; exactly what youre thinking a diner would be.I had the Elvis waffle, and my daughter had the Classic Diner Breakfast. The waffle was perfectly crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Topped with peanut butter fluff, bananas, chopped pecans and side of maple syrup? Yup. Its as good as it sounds. My daughters meal was right on the money Americana. Toast, eggs your way, choice of meat (she chose bacon, of course) and hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked well, the bacon was crispy and the hashbrowns were golden brown and crispy on the outside, while tender on the inside. Excellent. We saved room for a shake, and shared their Chocomint shake. It was a good choice! Oreos, chocolate, and mint. Bam!The service was great as well! Very cordial, very helpful and very personable. All in all, our visit was a fantastic experience, and Ill absolutely go back when in town again!
Pretty good! I had the chicken and waffles which was good but I think I liked the waffle and chicken more by themselves as chicken was kinda peppery. My husband had the Spicy G burger which he really enjoyed. I would try the Thai noodle dish next te if I come again. 1point off for no bathroom tissue in 2 stalls, including mine!
Here from out of town with our dog. I called ahead and was told the patio was pet friendly. I get here and am told they dont allow dogs. You need to train your people better.
I was in Sioux Falls for business and I took a walk downtown. I came upon Phillips Avenue Diner. It was so cute and charming from the outside that I decided to check it out.I wasnt disappointed. It was like an old fashion drugstore soda counter. They had a nice menu. I had a Thai Chicken wrap with sweet potato fries that were great. The highlight was the tomato bisque. It was fantastic. I was too full for dessert, but they had milkshakes and malts. Very nice wait staff as well
Found this gem by accident. 3 kids, wife, and myself had one of the best dinning experience ever. The service was great, The restaurant was very clean, and the whole reason we were there... The Food! It was soooo good! I cant say enough about the quality! Entrees were amazing and the kids meals were just as good. Thank you Phillips Ave!
My first time in here with my wife. The atmosphere is wonderful, quiet enough for me to be able to hear and understand what is being said (I wear hearing aids). Food is absolutely amazing! I had the Sticky Noodle salad and my wife had the Cuban Smash sandwich. Our server was terrific and attentive. Will definitely be stopping back in. Check out downtown Sioux Falls and pick up a bite to eat at the Phillips Avenue Diner.
A great place to have a quintessential, old fashioned diner experience. The food tastes great and this establishment offers some interesting takes and additions of food choices, in addition to the classics. The staff is quick and attentive. The only downside is that it is in the middle of downtown and street parking is only available.
We decided to eat breakfast here since it was one of the closer places from the Holiday inn downtown City center area where we stayed the night. Location is perfect since you can just eat and then be on your way to see the rest of Phillips avenue. Everybody had different things from the breakfast menu, from breakfast burritos to the egg sandwiches, all were pretty decent. Staff was super friendly.
Lively diner in downtown Sioux Falls SD. Very attentive servers. Good food. Try the Twinkie shake. They only had one kind of coffee that was dark and super strong. A light roast breakfast blend would definitely be a welcome addition to the menu. Not everyone wants dark extremely strong coffee
I love diners and will make a point to go to one if I see one is close by. I saw that when I was in Sioux Falls there was Phillips Avenue Diner and I had to go. And I was impressed. The staff were all very friendly and the diner itself was so cute. Lots of options for booths, tables, and of course the signature diner bar. I went for breakfast and had pancakes, sausage, and eggs - they were delish! At my table we also got country fried steak and eggs, biscuits/gravy, and an omelet . All were outstanding! Its a must stop if youre in the area!
This fabulous little diner was the main reason I stopped through to Sioux Falls. Ive heard a lot about it, and I was very pleased with my experience. The old downtown of the city has a few gems to visit after a full dining experience. No wait on Sunday morning around 10am, with a choice of bar seating or booth. The menu is straight forward, and the coffee is great, which was a wonderful surprise considering the majority of diners have terrible coffee! The meal came incredibly quick, and it was delicious. The portion wasnt over the top, but was plenty enough to fill up on.Highly recommended. Heard lunch menu is just as good!
Fast service and the food was very good. I recommend going for breakfast for sure
Really fast. Efficient and friendly service. Tasty food. Always a pleasure here.
Good to be back enjoying breakfast at the diner. Our server did an excellent job, very courteous with frequent checks to see how things were or if anything was needed.
Nice comfy little diner with friendly servers and a fairly large menu for a diner. The breakfast food served to me was very satisfying.
Still a family favorite when downtown! Gets a little busy so be aware of lunch and dinner rushes. Food is great. My favorite is the Spicy G burger with fries. The Smores milk shake is really delicious and is topped with actual toasted marshmallows, check it out, I dont think youll be disappointed.
Very good food and unique menu. I had the chicken and waffles and my husband had the corned beef hash and both were excellent!
Great diner food. And the malts are definitely worth the indulgence.
Absolutely charming 50s style diner in the center of historic downtown Sioux Falls. I dont like eggs, and asked if the kitchen could make an eggless version of the Farmers Breakfast. The result was a delicious blend of crispy potatoes, fresh spinach, tomatoes and bacon topped with grated cheddar and a delicious hollandaise. Plus, the staff couldnt be nicer about making sure that my eggless breakfast was perfect. We will definitely be back!
My family of 4 ate here at lunch time recently. Cute little retro diner in the heart of Sioux Falls. Their food is very much homemade and not cookie cutter. Excellent sandwiches, pasta, and salads. Milkshakes are to die for. Best thing...they did not force masks on us which we truly appreciated - kindness goes a long way.
The staff, the people and the food, were all amazing. The portions were perfect and it wasnt very expensive. I highly recommend if youre just passing through Sioux falls stop in and grab a bite!
Short wait for seating, however the host seemed put off because we had a service dog with us. Server was friendly, the meal was served fairly quickly.. meal was very disappointing my sandwich had lots of tasteless meat, barely any onion a single strip of pepper a small strip of cheese, bread was to soft for dipping and fell apart immediately making it near impossible to eatThe aujuice was brown liquid no flavor at all. . My friends meal was no better hot beef sandwich with same tasteless meat.
Came here Friday night 11/15/19, found parking out front, quiet in restaurant. Friendly staff, gave tips on foods. I thought I might want to try the banana bread French toast, but waiter said just to let you know hes heard its quite sweet .I appreciated that, because I havent been eating a lot of sugar /under 20carbs, so I decided against that choice and got cheese curds instead (picture included). My husband got the chicken fried steak.. WARNING: ONIONS are IN that sauce. Either he didnt read that in the menu or they didnt put it in the menu. They kindly remade it for us! Love that!
Phillips Avenue Diner in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is a Diner conveniently located on Phillips Avenue. Very tasty food & sweet milkshakes. A must stop if you are hungry. 😍
Foods a little pricey for what you get, but it tastes good. It was a little crowded, but it was also a Saturday right towards the beginning of the school year, so it makes sense.
Food was excellent. Chicken and waffles and chicken strip mashed potatoe wrap did not disappoint. The shakes were big enough for two, and the unique flavors were a must try. Love the old diner atmosphere. Great service as well!
Host unfriendly. Poor parking. Our Touchmark handicapped van was given an overtime parking ticket.in their lot. No accessible parking available.. Seven elderly disabled residents were on the bus.
Amazingly friendly staff and delicious food and coffee. If you’re strolling downtown Sioux Falls you can’t miss this place. It’s a stand-alone diner separate from the rows of buildings. There’s no parking directly in front but it’s readily available a half block away. They have espresso drinks and they make a great Americano.
Food was good. Had the spinach strawberry salad.
I so wanted to love this place, being new to Sioux Falls and South Dakota. I have been there 4 times all on different days and for varied meals. Unfortunately wanting a place to be great just doesnt make it. The food is such a let down. Out of 5 meals that were ordered today, 4 of them had things that were incorrect or just plain bad. We even sent back the childs meal and didnt want them to fix it, just take it off. The wait staff is hit or miss. Our waitress today was nice, but many of the workers make you feel as if customers are viewed as a hassle. The one thing this place has to offer is location and decor. Being right down town is great for an after meal stroll. The historic pictures of Sioux Falls awesome.
Very friendly and excellent service, French dip was deeelicious
This diner has a great atmosphere. Servers were attentive. They even have malts, not just shakes. I had the beef commercial it was very good.
Cool atmosphere, and excellent food. Service was lacking, staff forgot a few items and was slow to check back. But definitely worth checking out! 👍
The Phillips Ave Diner does not disappoint! We had some amazing burgers. The fries were well seasoned as well. Id also highly recommend the Elvis Shake! It can get busy around dinner time but its definitely worth the wait. Overall Id definitely encourage people to hit this Sioux Falls standard!
A classic-style diner with very traditional, Midwestern fare - but traditional is far from pedestrian. The food was exceptionally good and all the rumors about their milkshakes are absolutely true (highly recommend the poutine in particular). Paired with a clean, crisp establishment and the best service on Phillips makes the Diner a staple of Sioux Falls.
Recommended to this place by a friend that moved to the city. My husband and I stopped for breakfast and the atmosphere was really comfortable and the service was great. They also have amazing milkshakes. The only reason I dont give 5 stars is because I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy and it was a lot different than the usual order without explanation of that on the menu. It wasnt traditional at all (which is fine, but I would have expected that written). Outside of that it was a really cool place and had tons of options.
Awesome! Food, service, atmosphere. Great!
Excellent food and service. We were in town from Tennessee and glad we found this diner. Highly recommend this place. We had adults and kids and everyone was happy with their food.
A fun atmosphere to enjoy American comfort food. It is clean with good service. A popular spot for locals. We were there on an extremely cold morning, but it was still busy, giving testimony for the popularity of this diner.
Very quaint, great comfort food, wonderful staff.
Fun diner and the food was really good. Had to wait for 30 mins but definitely worth it. Glad we found it
I decided on the jambalaya with chicken. It was amazing and the sauce was so good I scraped every bit I could off that plate! Great service! Very friendly! Clean and very cool atmosphere!
The food here is not bad; however the personnel is horrific.i also believe that they purposely caught the place on fireto collect the insurance money; horrific!
This place does it right!
Good food, good service, great atmosphere. A solid 8 of 10.
Great diner! We had the banana bread French toast which was amazing, along with the spinach omelette. Great service, clean bathrooms, and affordable.
Delicious! I had the Spicy Gs burger and fries. Cooked to perfection! Kelly provided excellent service!
Great service. Delicious food. Nice atmosphere. Fantastic coffee.
Delicious food, fast service, wonderful staff. Well be back!
Philips Avenue Diner! Is life changing good! I had breakfast and it was so delecious and I requested for a side of salsa and it was freshly made! I was greeted immediately upon entering and the staff was very nice. I ordered and the food was delivered hot and ready! If ever in Sioux Falls do your taste buds and stomach a favor and feed your soul. Thanks for the great Customer Service!
Ate Christmas Eve lunch here as they were closing up. We were driving to see family in Ohio for Christmas. This place was definitely a highlight of the trip. Not one complaint about the food. The food was great. Our waitress was a young mother who was an absolute angel. This is our second time eating here and we loved it both times. This restaurant has become a designated waypoint for future trips to see family.
Eat here! You wont regret it! We sat at the counter and saw first hand how clean, quick, efficient and pleasant the staff works!!! The food is of highest quality too: thick bacon, homemade sausage patty, hamburger was spot on!! Etc! If your a sweet tooth, they have several unique hand scooped shakes, banana bread French toast and churro waffles -just to name a few!
Very neat place with excellent food and service. We loved the old photos on the wall. Overall experience was above expectations.
Cant wait till they reopen!! Miss my brekkie burrito!
Great food and customer service. We stopped in for brunch and it seemed fairly busy but we waited less than 15 minutes for a table. We ordered french toast with applewood smoked bacon, and a breakfast sandwich with hash towns. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious!
I had lunch with my mom and ordered a meatloaf with mashed potatoes and broccoli. It didnt take long to get the meals served to us. My dinner was a big serving of meatloaf. There was a nice waitress and I think you should go there if youre wanting to get your moneys worth. That was my first time eating there and I will go back.
Staff is always really friendly and I enjoy the nostalgic vibe throughout the restaurant!
