Under the Oak not only met but far exceeded our expectations for our wedding caterer. From start to finish, they were responsive, professional, kind, and so very accommodating. I have several food allergies, and they were able to make me/similar guests special dishes so that we could still enjoy most all the food. Lara went above and beyond helping us make sure our day went smoothly and was a delight to work with. Thank you, Under the Oak, for helping make our wedding day so unforgettable!
Under the Oak catering was the perfect addition to our big wedding day! Lara, the manager, was incredible to work with and helped me customize a menu for my wedding that created excellent food for a good price per head.On the day of the wedding, her staff were so on point and all of our guests loved their cocktail apps and their meal. She was so accommodating and that is all anyone can ask for when planning a wedding.Would recommend to our friends and family!
There was one thing we knew for sure about vendors for our wedding day, that was our caterer: Under the Oak Catering. Since my husband had worked with Blake in the past, he knew that they were the only people he could trust to cater his wedding. We loved their dedication to local and sustainable ingredients, and they were more than happy to work with our family style menu. From the perfect cocktail hour with grand charcuterie display and passed appetizers, to the salads, and finally the entrees and sides, everything tasted delectable. To this day we are told it is the best wedding food our guests have ever had and they ask how they can get more of it. Don’t pass up the opportunity for Under the Oak Catering to be your wedding caterers, you will not regret it.
Great dinner great servers. Thank you Kristopher for making our dinner time peaceful. Food is great and well priced Thanks Enjoy
Ive been wanting to try this place for a while, and boy am I glad I did! The food is simply amazing & fresh. I had the curry chicken salad sandwich & Mediterranean pasta salad. Both were delicious! They have cold cases & sell to go options as well. I took home the smoked tomato pie & meatloaf parmesan. Again........outstanding. The red velvet cake bites are yummy as well. They are offering something unique & different in our little town. I would encourage you to give them a try. Ill be back for sure!
Catering was a top priority for our wedding and after our tasting with Chef Blake, we stopped our search and immediately hired Under the Oak. Chef Blake made us feel welcome and comfortable and his food speaks volumes about his talent! The food is beyond amazing and left all of our family and friends full and happy. We also hired his wife, Megan (I Do Cakes), to make our wedding cake and mini desserts -- our cake was gorgeous and everything was delicious. Additionally, the waiters and bartenders were professional and did an amazing job!
Blake and his team provided the meal for our daughters wedding. The appetizers, food, and service were exemplary. We could not have asked for a better experience. Their food is fresh, delicious, and beautifully displayed and efficiently served. We appreciate their commitment to keeping food local and using non GMO ingredients and doing their part to fix the industrial food chain.
Best sandwich ever! Prime rib cheeseteak! Couscous pasta salad light and delicious!
Our highest recommendation for an extra special culinary experience provided by Under the Oak Cafe!! Offering a terrific value and quality range of menu options, the owners are a talented young couple (chef Blake and wife, Megan of @idocakesnc) who provide farm-to-table, five-star goodness for every palette, including vegetarian (V) and gluten free (GF) items. Convenient to locals in Smithfield and Clayton and a worthy destination from the Raleigh area as well as to travelers off of I-95, your made-to-order lunch will be served by their friendly staff within six minutes and your multi-course dinner selections at a relaxed but appropriate pace. One of the many things that really set this gem of a restaurant apart is the attention to detail with each of their plates, visually delighting the eye with a colorful presentation, followed by complex flavors pleasing to the palette and nose. While Blake is highly regarded for his pickling and fermentation expertise and Megan’s incredible talents offer custom wedding cakes and other dessert delicacies, their talents abound in all other culinary arts as well.My husband and I enjoyed a Friday evening date, sampling many items elegantly presented from their menu while saving room for Megan’s divine desserts. Every single plate we tasted was delicious but if forced to choose, our favorites were the raw oysters with mignonette (with a glass of cava brut), mushroom toast with butter bean hummus and pickled radish, cucumber salad with yogurt and mint and all three of Megan’s desserts: honeysuckle panna cotta with peach ice and cashew ginger granola; chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream and toffee; and buttermilk pie with blueberry sorbet.Wine and beer selection is small but comprehensive and just right - our bottle of velvety High Note Malbec paired well with our menu choices, offering rich blackberry and black cherry aromas. Reservations are appreciated. Super clean, modern interior with tables set with fresh flowers and candles, this cafe offers a dinner atmosphere that is just right for families, couples, and friends with safe well-lit street parking at night. Fantastic option for business lunches and travelers who crave fresh, real food and very convenient to Smithfield Courthouse as well as a quick drive from Novo Nordisk, Grifols, Caterpillar, etc.
It’s sad how nasty this food is. Fish soggy club sandwich was nasty and it’s hard to go wrong on a club sandwich. So instead of spending my money where I play for food I’m going to other casinos to eat so who lose money ?
The most amazing staff and owner you will ever meet! Under the oak constantly goes above and beyond for their customers. The owner has poured his heart and soul into this and his love for it shines through. It is the best food you will ever have! I could not recommend them enough !
Stop in for a killer JoCo burger for lunch and grab a Take And Bake meal from the freezer for your dinner! Unbelievable food!
Great place to shop prepared meals, fresh produce, local beers
Under the Oaks catered our wedding. One of the biggest priorities for our wedding was to have amazing and memorable food. Blake and his team exceeded expectations and had a huge variety of what we could choose from for our menu. We were very impressed with Blakes strong and unrelenting passion to keep his food restaurant quality to avoid the normal bland wedding food vibe and intense attention to detail. He did not disappoint. He was very honest to tell us if certain food options were not ideal for our venue to ensure the quality of what he was delivering. He has a strong pride in what he does and it shows in the results.Guests came up to us during the wedding to rave about how spectacular the food was.He was extremely responsive and also happy to work through several versions of the menu so that he could take into consideration our budget. He was extremely flexible and accommodating even during a last minute venue change. He always found a way to make what we wanted out of our wedding day work whether that be not having enough space as he would like or having to prepare our food in a venue that did not normally allow outside vendors. He never complained or made us feel less than extremely taken care of. He took all the worry away. His staff even prepared us some of the cocktail hour apps to take after the event to ensure we could taste everything.Coming out of the reception, we had several friends interested in hiring him for their wedding and other events coming up soon. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking to break out of the boring wedding food box and really enjoy a high quality meal that everyone will remember.
If I could give more stars, I would! This place is an absolute must! It is, without a doubt, worth the drive from wherever you are!The food is fresh, local-sourced, sustainable and delicious and the desserts are hand-crafted and spectacular! The owners (Blake and Megan) are involved in every aspect of the restaurant. Under The Oak Cafe is their lifes work and passion, and it shows.I highly recommend!!
Very enthusiastic and helpful with an array of products and for me, the how to best grill my meats.A clean and happy place!
I recently went to a multi course dinner with wine pairings at this restaurant. It was fabulous! This couple can cook!!! Very nice atmosphere and you really feel like you went somewhere and had a total food experience. Definitely will attend one of these again. Five stars.
What a great addition to the area! My husband and I enjoyed dinner this week. He shared a bite of the pork chops with collards and grits which was fabulous! I loved the Southern Salad with chicken so much that I ordered a second one to take to work for lunch the next day! My “to go” salad was just as delicious the next day. We are looking forward to many more meals at Under the Oak Cafe!
Blake and Meagan catered our wedding and everything was amazing. All our guests told us the food was so good. The pork was sourced local and the freshness really makes a difference. I would definitely recommend you try the cured meats as well. High quality food and a good price.
I was at a party that was catered by Under the Oak Catering. The presentation and execution was spot on! They take a lot of care sourcing local and high quality ingredients to use in their food. Their attention to detail is awesome. They are passionate about what they do and it shows. I would recommend their services to anyone.
Truly amazing food and service. We wanted to feature local seasonal food, and Blake put together an amazing and creative vegetarian feast for our wedding celebration. Dropped the food at our house, warning up in the oven. Prompt, professional, delicious, worry-free. We love Under the Oak!
Best place to dine in Smithfield, some of the best food craft of locally sourced items I have ever tasted. Reasonably priced for the intense work involved in sourcing and preparing their dishes. You can even find vegetarian and vegan options. 6/5.
The Roasted Beast was excellent with a tangy mustard on homemade focaccia. The Sweet Potato Salad side was a great addition. All local! We went to a pop-up Italian dinner and it was the best 5 courses we have ever experienced. Warm and inviting atmosphere.
Amazing. Wish I could give it more stars. So much flavor and different options. Smithfield needed something new and exciting other than the same old southern cooking places (not that there is anything wrong with that).Go. Eat. You will not be disappointed!❤️
I recently purchased the 4th of July Grill Box. I was grateful to support the work of a local, family run enterprise and completely blown away by the kit and the flexibility it offered. The chicken was incredible. Even after overcooking one of them, it still retained the seasoning and was delicious. The sausages went so fast I didn’t even get one :’(The pickles are still the best kept secret in North Carolina. I know it would be better if they weren’t a secret so I’ll spread the secret if you’re ok with it.The Kimchi Chow Chow was, to be very clear, one of the most complex and delicious things I’ve had in years. I would consider myself an above average consumer of Kimchi having grown up in South Korea and eating everything from commercial kimchi to restaurant kimchi and (my favorite) family kimchi that had been fermented in the ground. It has been well over a decade since I have had anything similar to that experience. To top all of that off with locally sourced beef was just, an incredible experience. Now I just have to find a shorter route to Smithfield!Keep it up, friends. You’ve got a great thing going.
Another line out the door for Smithfields best kept secret! The food is exceptional and the service is fast. Casual lunch spot for meals under $10 or dinner on Friday and Saturday for something fancy!
Really enjoyed a recent lunch here with one of my friends. The atmosphere is very nice as well as the owner. Definitely try their bolognese. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of their homemade deli meats.
We stopped here for lunch and absolutely loved it. The setting, staff, and the food were exceptional. For a fantastic culinary experience in the heart of JoCo, Under the Oak Cafe is a true gem.
The Beer and Beef dinner was outstanding! The pairings of beer for each course from The Deep River brewing Company was great! I will attend more functions here and bring more friends.
Where to start with Under the Oak catering...It is family owned and ran by a very loving newly married couple in which Blake is one hell of a chef and his wife Megan has made some of the best desserts I have ever had in my life. They can cater for any event you could desire and also have very elegant and well run dinners that are located on their own family run farm. Blake uses a lot of his own produce and if its not something he grew with his own hands, it is something from a local farm near by... the same goes for any proteins that he uses.Any meal or dessert has always been extremely well seasoned and has depths of flavors you will not find at any typical catering company. This family cooks with passion and love and it comes through clearly with each bite you take.
We were at the restaurant before 7:00 and when we ordered they were out of chicken and said they had one ribeye left, but came back to the table and said the ribeye was out - they had pork which we do not eat and a fish they were do not really care for so we ended up with a salad each. Very disappointed and will not be back.
We had dinner here about a month ago. Food was fantastic. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine. Everyone was very friendly. Really glad they are here. Looking forward to going back.
The spicy risotto with meatballs was excellent! I loved the beet salad, too. Locally sourced food! I cant wait to go back!
Nice new local restaurant. With farm fresh food. Great Sandwiches with a twist. Staff is very friendly.
I had the fermented forager and beet salad.. LOVED it!!! Great spot. Can’t wait to try more things on the menu.
Good food. Friendly staff. However the cockroaches are a no for me
Wonderful new sandwich shop here in downtown SmithfieldI had the Sweet stinky Pig. The strawberry mustard is wonderful! Quiet clean atmosphere..... come try them out
Upscale and delicious southern food, low prices, great atmosphere, interesting menu. Homemade pork rinds, my new FAVE!
Under the Oak is as quaint as it is charming. The food is top notch, farm to table, and the staff is sincerely friendly and helpfull. Its also the cleanest place I have eaten, this side of Mark twains steam boat. Do yourself a favor, and try the pickled green tomatoes! magnifique!
I would make sure to check photos before hand. Not someone you want to do business with.
Under the Oak is putting Smithfield on the map! If youre travelling down I-95, take exit 93 and its a four minute drive away. There are over 1200 free parking spots in pretty, historic downtown Smithfield with two public lots next to Under the Oak. The food is fresh, well thought-out, and locally sourced. Its the same price as Panera Bread and worlds better!(The menu does change with the seasons... so you know its fresh!)
Incredible service, friendly staff + amazing food.
Amazing!!!
