Great food, friendly staff, and reliable service 24/7! I needed some serious fuel and ordered the Scarlet Burger (cheeseburger with pork roll and a fried egg) and they were kind enough to substitute my french fries for home fries. It was even better than I expected. A breakfast/ lunch symphony in my mouth! Compliments to the chef
Ordered chicken fingers and fries which was bland, meatless nachos which were cold and had store bought nacho cheese and salsa not much flavor or layered so the chips to toppings ratio was way off, and finally got a veggie wrap with onion rings to replace the nachos. The blandest wrap I’ve ever had. No seasonings or crisp. It was soggy and dripping. The staff were really nice and removed the nachos off the bill but the food was substandard so we would not return.
Quick service overnight with few other customers. Made two change requests to my order and got fixed quickly. Dessert cost almost as much as sandwich.
Food (whole wheat pancakes with fresh blueberries, strawberries, and banana slices, with a $3.50 side of Canadian bacon) was delicious. When check arrived, it showed $4.49 for Canadian bacon. I expected cashier to simply apologize and change the tab, but instead she persisted in accusing me of ordering a larger portion than what I had ordered. I left feeling very abused. She ruined what had been a nice breakfast outing.
I have never had a bad time there. The staff is always lovely and make sure I am taken care of. The menu also has a great selection. Everything from a classic burger to a breakfast platter you cant go wrong with. It is a classic diner and gives you that vibe all throughout your entire experience. Been coming here for years and as long as I am around I dont see that changing.
Good food and friendly service. I visited on a Friday night and the diner was very busy. It was nice to see plenty of people about enjoying this institution.
I recently hosted a post-wedding brunch at Somerset Diner for about 20 people. The staff was so friendly and professional, and all of my guests were happy with their meals! They also allowed us to bring in champagne so we could toast to fantastic night. Thanks for being so accommodating!
Great DinerEverything was fresh. Attentive & polite server.
Really good NJ Diner breakfast. Very good service.
This is the only, THE ONLY BEST diner in NEW JERSEY STATE. Before I saw the venue I dint expect a diner to be so clean neat and amazing food :) thanks to server Mathew who was so courteous. And you wanna know what ?? They are BYOBBBBBB until 2AM yayyyyyy drink as much as u want but please dont drive :)
I live down the street and I come in every weekend! Its always been really good and friendly service. The food comes our really fast and you can modify your food with no issues.Prices are good too.
Went for breakfast on a weekday morning and had good great breakfast items. Problems started when we found higher charges for the side dishes on the bill. Apparently, the menue is cleverly arranged so that there are two ways to order sides, and the one that cost more is what gets on your bill. When we asked about it the cashier and the manager got loud, nasty and aggressive and asserted the customers were to blame. Ive never seen a customer treated like this! Regardless of how many other customers who dont study the bill and get ripped off, this is no way to treat people . Never again
My time there. I ordered the begian waffle it was cooked just right. And our waiter Alex was a humbling young man. I truly appreciate him and my hat off to the chef. I will be coming back
I gave it two stars because although the servers are amazing the management is horrible. The manager was extremely rude. We are regular customers and we always come and the only person that doesn’t make us feel welcome and is always rude is the manager. He is horrible. I spoke to him and told him that he should be nicer to his customers… his response was…”I will not Apologize!” Very unprofessional! One time we came in he said “I don’t want to be here!” That is definitely not a way to welcome anyone! This management really needs to be fixed!
Enjoyed my breakfast there. Friendly server, delicious filling meal. Huge menu to select from. There is something for everyone. Did not feel rushed at all. Definitely recommend.
Quintessential Jersey diner— tons of food options, reasonably priced, quick and direct service. They also bake their cakes and pastries on site so be sure to pick up the extra fudgy looking chocolate cake! The only qualm I have is ordering take out can be a task. Be prepared to be put on hold for an extended amount of time if you call in an order.
Honestly I wasnt impressed with the service or the food. The waitress appeared to be over it and the description of the food was better than it actually tasted.. Had the BAKED MUSHROOM CAPS w/ CRAB MEAT.. what we got was Mushrooms caps underneath a huge overly breaded crab cake.. My sandwich was subpar b/c the main ingredient of the sandwich PESTO CHICKEN sandwich had a smear of Pesto because they ran out.. Appreciate the effort. BUT the food came out fast and was hot. Cant say DONT GO.. Just will say.. Hope your experience will be better than mine.
Good breakfast option; loved their steak n eggs. Also tried corned beef hash multiple times. The coffees are hit n miss; some days tasted otherworldly. They also have healthy options for sides.
Very nice environment. Friendly staff and very quick service. Food a delicious. Exactly what a old school diner suppose to fell like. Very family friend and great prices.
Food is pretty and filling! Couldn’t finish my meal, so took it home. Italian options are the best here, in my opinion.
Four dollars for 4 little pieces of bacon. BBQ sauce taste like vinegat for my ok chicken fingers. Plus charges a packaging fee for to go food. Never eat here again!
Quite possibly one of the worst diners Ive been to. How do people give 5* to this place I have no idea. I visited this in on July 7 (about 11am) after completing my work shift nearby, the day after a bad storm in NJ. Ordered a mid morning meal of pancakes and egg, no coffee. The booth I was in smelt of stinking rain water, and the iced water I was given had an overwhelming taste to it that altered the taste of my food. One couple after me asked the hostess why the smell, the lady said it was the water from the rain yesterday . Really?? Ive been to other places near a river after a bad rainstorm and they dont have this overwhelming stench! The smell was so strong it took away my appetite to eat, thus did not finish my breakfast. Between the stench of the place and the aftertaste of water, I could barely taste the pancakes or the eggs. On top of that, the waitress was training a new employee and had to wait a long time before they would give my check. I dont think I will be returning to this diner if Im in this area.
As Professional Driver, Im very happy diners are back in business so we can get halfway decent food..
When we arrived at the Somerset Diner it was a full house. The manager warned us that the wait would be a while. It was well worth the wait. Servers were excellent and food was delicious. Would recommend to all!
Perfect breakfast. clean place and very nice workers in the restaurant.
Average diner with average food. Good service. Worth the trip if youre at least hungry.
Fast and friendly service! Food quality was great.
It was really good! My family was staying at a hotel in New Jersey for the weekend and we actually went here twice for dinner as well as breakfast. The weird thing I will say is their fries seem to change from dinner time to breakfast time they were two completely different “recipes”. I much prefer the dinnertime fries that were the sort of breaded and seasoned ones versus whereas the breakfast time fries are more similar something you buy frozen at the grocery store and toss in the oven. This was a very small thing we noticed though. Overall the food is great and there is a lot of variety on the menu.
Great Diner, food is typical for a diner, so above average, would definitely visit again.
Open all night...a good place for a night cap. Open parking, booth seating.
Very busy today..I understand but we did wait almost an hour for our food. Great place and waiter... Free cheesecake for inconvenience but a person can only do so much..understaffed on the 4th of July. Still very nice..and clean I live it .
I love the breakfast here but the water for the tea is always warm and not hot. The waiter’s disappear so you can never ask for anything you need like salt, pepper etc. I was very disappointed with my visit. I’ll give them another try but maybe for dinner. I just hope they get better with services
Decent food for a decent price. The service was adequate for the time visited, (2:30 am), but very nice Indeed would eat a late lunch there again very soon
0 ambience, Okay food. Would not go again.
Server Katelyn was on point. Food was so good but it was super hot inside. Aside from that I recommend it!
Susan & Elaina were phenomenal. Customer service was on point. Was recommended to come here by my friend. Ordered a simple breakfast dish and still received 5star service. Thank you ladies!!!
Went for a family lunch, ordered the super sampler, when we tried the wings they were all raw. Also the water did not taste well. Manager gave us $1.00 off. Would not recommend this diner to anyone
Fantastic service comfort very relaxed everything was spectacular! Great place to Dine!
This place always has great food. Used to come here more often when there was a convention around the corner. The staff is still friendly and the food tastes wonderful.
We ordered through UberEats, the manicotti that we have had there on multiple occasions was bitter tasting and not edible, upon calling the diner, a person by the name Manny who said he was the night manager, refused to talk about it first saying the manicotti comes frozen and they just heat it up so no way the “chef” would know it’s bad. Lol what a lame excuse, then Manny the manager goes on to say, it’s not his problem and it’s UberEats problem since they are the restaurant we ordered from, I was left speechless, we didn’t enjoy our dinner but got a good laugh out of Manny and the chef who heats up frozen food. Now we have eaten at Somerset Diner in the past and this review is more about Manny the manager. We have saved the manicotti and refreezing it and going to take it to the health department Monday and let them know. We ourselves own restaurants and never ever would blame a delivery service for the quality of the food.
Home cooking. Better than IHOP.
Met for a business meeting. The food was good as usual, service was great and the proper protocols are in place.
Used to be awesome but recently the meatloaf was awful. threw it out. even the.presentstion was terrible. sorry
Quick, courteous service! Big menu, lots of choices. Delicious crispy fries, same for the bacon. Epic pastry display is epic. I 💜 DESSERTS! 😃
Decent place to grab food, the waiters were not attentive and it wasn’t even busy at the time. Lost appetite. Cake was not good.
I tried the burger I ordered and when I wasnt satisfied, I tried to return it. It was soggy, overcooked, and badly put together with the stem of the tomato on the burger! The least the couldve done was season the fries. Then was told I couldnt get a refund because the burger was bitten. Dissatisfied, disappointed and definitely not returning.
I always order their waffle its so soft & delicious!!! Establishment always seems very clean!!!
Food and service were excellent!! Place seemed to be the spot to eat at.
Awful costumer service. Would give them zero stars. Went there with my wife. We patiently waited close to 30 minutes for our order to be taken. Waiter never came to our table to take our order. What made us really upset is that we saw him taking an order from people who came way after us before we had a chance to place an order.
Loved the aesthetic and the service. Food was delightful too
It was good I got steak and eggs. The steak was cooked perfectly and the eggs were good. The Staff was really nice and the manager took care of me personally
Foods great, service is almost always great. See for yourself!
Its been some years since Ive been there...but man!!! What happened to this place?? We stopped in on a weekday and I thought it was closed actually. We sat for about 20 minutes before our order was taken...there was literally 2 other tables with people...and waited another 15 to 20 for our actual food to come. My wife thinks our waiter may have had a touch of being on the spectrum, so Ill commend them for hiring those with special needs. But the food quality and taste was just blah.Sadly, add Somerset Diner to the list of places that have fallen off.
Is a very good place for many reasons
Nice place, friendly, good food and service.
Group of 4 - called this location before going there, they said they werent too busy and they could serve us. When we got there, we were seated and we waited 25 minutes for a waiter before we asked for a time update. The person we asked ended up asking one of the waiters to help us saying I know thats not your table but can you help out the waiter was visibly angry. We left due to the highly unprofessional service.
We arrived at the diner at around 3:15AM, after being seated we waited for about 20 to 25 mins without anyone servicing us. When we asked a member of bus team about who would take our order they said they would find out. 10 minutes later we see two waiters arguing over who should take our order since apparently the table did not fall under either of there sections and they were the only two there. We ended up leaving at around 4am, and getting food from the dunkin next door. I believe that management has some things they need to review with their team members to better serve there patrons. I can not say for the food, or water service as we were never served in the 45 minutes we were there.
The staff are very nice but the place itself is worn out.
Not my favorite. I ordered very basic breakfast. Eggs and beef hash .For some reason beef hash was uncooked and has a ton of onion, felt like tasting ground meat . Eggs was rubbery pieces and not scrambled. I told the waiter later as I didnt finish my dish . They didnt charge us, staff are friendly but I wouldnt go back again
Hello from lester Smitty Smith just to let you know the somerset Diner was a fine Place lot of good meals it looks like on the menu and I was there for a good breakfast which was really good it was really like it did it in your own home its a home-cooked breakfast fresh eggs that are out of this world I had corned beef hash which was great but home fries and their pancakes were the best this will earn them ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars and I will return dinner Im not sure about I was there for breakfast if you want to go to breakfast go to the somerset Diner it was really delicious have a great evening and Lester Smitty Smith signing off once again and remember where your mask lets keep keep the numbers down🙏
Great food and friendly staff. The middle-aged man working at the counter on Sunday 3/28 at 11:00 PM hour was friendly and made my visit memorable.
Polite Service, but Food was COLD! Not appealing at all. No Frills Meal.I couldve stay home for what they served. Ill might give it another try. Covid has changed Everything!
Definitely a diner but food was good and service equally good.
Good diner food but service was a bit slow for a weekday.
Quite possibly one of the worst diners in NJ, at least for take out during a pandemic. The attached photo is the corned beef sandwich on rye with coleslaw. Except no coleslaw. Sandwich looked more poorly slapped together than those served during the Fyre Festival. No mustard.Side of mashed potatoes terribly bland, as is most of food served.Just terrible.
Food was great and lots of it. Prices good, service good.
Nice diner in Somerset on Eastern Ave. Large menu and decent coffee. Friendly staff.
Really nice diner. Stopped for breakfast. Everything fresh, clean and good food. Great staff. Definitely stop if your in the area.
Great dining experience and very convenient to my job and so glad they are 24 hours..
Don’t know if it was because it was late but the service was absolutely horrible. From the host to the food to the server. Do not recommend.
Come here a few times a month after a long night of work or breakfast in the morning. Sometimes the food is better than other days but never bad food. The two ladies at night are very friendly and make you feel welcomed. Very good diner.
Food was really bad the corned beef hash was raw. The server was really good. Definitely not recommend it
Worst breakfast I ever had got an omelette was totally right inside took one bite left the meal waitress asked if I wanted a box I said no didn’t ask anything paid the $30 bill no one asked today enjoy my meal because I would’ve said absolutely not no one cared how many people are like that place or drunk college kids eating french fries at three in the morning
Love this place. A nice place to refresh while traveling
Food was excellent and service was absolutely perfect AAA+++
Great diner. Great people. Tiffany is always a pleasure. Food is always fresh and fast. On site bakery baked by owner. Not like other diners. Highly recommend. COVID friendly.
Excellent food. Excellent service.
Great happy place. Great services and large portions.
My daughter and I have been going there for atleast 10 years...Still the same...Awesome food...excellent staff...We went there after a while this morning...and the waitress not only remembered us...but also remembered that my daughter always ordered chocolate milk shake🙂...Little details matter in customer service...and they nailed it...Would definitely recommend Somerset Diner...
Good food and service. Medium burger was a little rare. Breakfast style food is excellent.
Great Ambiance. Good Service and quality of food.
Food is always good it just takes forever to get any attention.
Great food great service
Good place to eat. Friendly service good prices.
The wait was super long even though no one was really in the restaurant. Food was good though.
Lovely place set on the Raritan outside Rutgers, somerset diner is a great lively place for any hour of the day. Open 24 hours, the diner is there to accommodate ones appetite. Great stop for students and convention goers in the area! Dont let full parking lot fool you, seating is always available.Recommend the french toast and eggs benedict!
U guys still got my partner truly enjoyed your food.
I had a slice of a cake and it was reallllly bad. Got the same cake at Edison diner and it was very good
Its ok cheesecake very small slice half oher diners
The staff is friendly, even when busy. The service is quick, even on the most busy days you can still expect not to have to wait an unreasonable amount of time. Great food in the typical style that you would expect going to a diner. You get a good meal for a very reasonable price. Any of their breakfasts are going to be good, also their matzo ball soup is a hidden gem. The diner has a very homey and warm feeling that is familiar to anyone who grew up going to diners.
