Some times you have to wait for perfection!I ordered this sofa Dec 1st 2020 and it arrived in Michigan April 25th.Along the way I read some of the other reviews on here and got pretty freaked out wondering if the sofa I ordered would ever show up...Patience people! Making somethings from scratch takes time. I know its hard in this world of instant gratification but trust me its worth the wait.I will say there was a lack of communication or realistic shipping dates at times with out me reaching out to Marc and his team, but in the end the sofa showed up exactly as I requested it! Thanks Total Design Furniture!

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I have to give Total Design Furniture & Marc (the owner) a shout out and express my gratitude for a job well done! In April 2019, I reached out to Marc with a few photos of a couch design and asked if he could make something similar. To my surprise, his answer was yes and he nailed it! The legs of this sofa are solid walnut and curve is just perfect.This was a custom order and with that, I expected this process to take time, which it did. Patience paid off and we finally welcomed home this sofa in November. It fit perfectly!It took 5 months to receive the order which seems a lifetime with 2-day free delivery (Amazon) and access to ordering anything we want at our finger tips (Amazon). But if feel this expectation should be tempered. The logistics of shipping such an odd shaped sofa were overcome and Marc was an excellent communicator to my frequent inquiries as it was (is) a leap of faith to order a sofa online. Total Design Furniture is a small business and supporting a US design and US made product was very important to me. Please know this is a reputable and honorable business that will make every effort in making their customers happy. Marc produced a beautiful, custom sofa that I will enjoy for many, many years to come.(PS - I uploaded several photos which can be viewed when clicking See photos back on main web-page. In 2018, My spouse and I order a custom beautiful sectional during Black Friday. We went to the showroom and Marc showed us around giving us time to decide what kind of fabric we wanted to use. We paid an extra $100.00 to have it expedited and delivered before Christmas. The sofa is still in great condition and I get so many compliments. On 1/29/21, I reach out to Marc to make my kids a custom ball pit and other soft play . After going back and forth via email about the details we finalized the order on 2/7/21. Marc requested for a 60% deposit which I thought was a bit high but didnt mind because our previous experience was awesome. The order was going to take 6-8 weeks with a delivery date of 4/4/21. I reach out to Marc on 4/2/21 to check the status because he havent said anything about delivery. Marc stated that it will be completed during the week and delivered Thursady 4/8/21. I was curious about all the bad reviews that I requested for pictures. Marc replied when he gets back in the office on 4/5/21. I sent 3 emails trying to confirm our new delivery date for 4/8/21. Marc never responded and he never sent any pictures. I called his number thats on his website and a unprofessional lady answer and I stated I will like to check the status of my order. She responded Marc doesnt have the phone right now let me get a pen and paper. If you answered you should be ready to look up my order and give me some information. I just hung up and made a claim with my bank to get my money refunded. Im upset but I really feel sad for my kids because they were really excited and ready to play. Now I have to wait another 2 months to get one custom made.

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. FRAUD. We paid a large amount for multiple furniture items to total design furniture over a year ago and still have not received items. This is an illegitimate company that will not deliver you actual items. They continually avoid you and the other reviews are fake.

Marc has been making furniture for me for more than 10 years - he can make anything youve seen or can dream up. The quality and craftsmanship is amazing, and far more reasonable prices that you would find online or in a modern store like WestElm or CB2. Marc and his team are true artists and I never hesitate to recommend that friends make a trip out to see Marc.

Im sad to report that I am Marcs latest victim. We are a returning customer so I thought he would come through for us, but nope! He pulled the exact shenanigans as described by other reviews - takes large deposit, becomes unresponsive, lies about completing the piece, says it shipped but wont send photos, his imaginary Jemal character thats lost with the couch somewhere across the country, the unprofessional lady answering the business line with hello before giving me the runaround.Whats so strange is that hell actually text with you and dig himself into a deeper and deeper hole of lies in some sort of twisted self destructing episode- Ill send the pictures now (11am), Ill send them when I get home (1pm), Im at an installation (at 8pm), Still at the install (at midnight), it shipped out last monday. All while there are actually no pictures and no work has been done. Jemal is first going to Florida and then delivering your piece on the way back, He should get there in a week, He should get there in another week and it keeps going.I told him to just come clean with me and Id understand but he just went silent. I gave him one more chance before opening a PayPal dispute and he still didnt respond. I requested a refund on PayPal and he never responded so I escalated it with screen shots of all the lying and ridiculousness and they refunded our 2k deposit no questions asked. Hopefully they disable his account. SAD! Wasted 5 months and so much brain power on this clown.It was more than a month and a half between him saying it shipped and me getting the refund. What did he expect, for me to just forget about it and let him keep the money? So many questions unanswered.For those considering purchasing from this place, be aware that you might get something nice or you might have the worst experience imaginable, there is no guarantee. They make great furniture (if they decide to actually make yours) but one thing is certain- the owner is utterly incompetent at running a business and has no issue with taking you for a ride. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Excellent copies of mid-century designs as well as custom-made furniture, and at a reasonable price. They use solid wood and high-quality fabric, and they have a ton of colors and patterns you can choose from. You can also modify the classic designs in a way you like (pillows, heights, wood color...). And their chairs and sofa are so comfortable!Delivery free if not too far.We bought multiple pieces as we had just moved to our new place and we needed a new living room. Got a great piece of furniture that looked exactly like the online picture. The price was quite fair and the shipping experience was terrific. Door-to-door White Glove shipping treatment. I would definitely buy from TD again. The style and quality is wonderful. Much nicer than the other online pieces that I looked at. I was leery of buying furniture online site unseen but it worked out well.Arnie

Ordered a sofa from Marc Nunez in February. It was a custom piece and was going to take a couple months to make. In April he told me it was done but shipping was an issue because of COVID. Never received any updates on the piece from him, always had to inquire on status. I was always told something new. It was done. It was almost done. The reason they couldnt ship was because of some problem with shipper. No photos of the finished piece were ever sent despite multiple requests. He had an excuse for everything. Thank GOD the purchase was done through Etsy because finally in JUNE, 2 months after I was told the piece was finished, I disputed the purchase with Etsy and they told Marc to give a tracking number or a refund. He did neither and they forced a refund from his account. Never heard from him again. During this time, I also was able to get multiple furniture pieces shipped, from California, so there were options for him to get me the couch.I will say he always answered emails, which was nice. He never did anything to keep me updated along the way, despite this being a $7k piece of furniture, and it looks like in retrospect, most of his replies were probably lies.Guess it makes sense why his Etsy page is down and his store website doesnt work.I would not do business with him again and would caution anyone else from doing so as well.

Update: Received sofa - August 19 - did not know it was even being delivered until I heard from the delivery people giving me a delivery status. However, Marc did not charge me for white glove shipping from CA to MD so that was a nice gesture. My sofa also was exactly what I ordered. Again, if communication was better I think this would have elevated a lot of issues and this rating in general.Ordered a sofa the middle of January. Checked status in March Marc and was told it was almost ready. This lead to April and May. In May I was told they are picking up the sofa from the warehouse. Marc emailed me pictures, not my sofa - someone elses. When I emailed back to letting him know it was not the sofa, told he meant to email the pictures to another client and stated that mine would also be picked up the following weekend. Waited a few weeks and asked for pictures of my sofa, but never heard back. Now we are in June, I emailed Marc a few times after that, but no response. I had to file a chargeback with PayPal. Very disappointed as I had ordered from them before and had no issues but this time its been a stressful experience.

Total Design is great! I ordered a z-couch and matching loveseat and they arrived so quickly I was surprised! Marc was very pleasant to work with and accommodating to my needs. I ended up being allergic to the fabric I chose for the cushions and he reupholstered them in a different fabric for me for free! 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for high-quality mid century furniture at a great price. Also the showroom is a dream.

Custom 90” Woodrail Sofa - Fabric is by Sunbrella, it’s called Sailcloth in the color Sailor.-Ordered 11/29/19 (Black Friday Sale), quoted 6-8 weeks for completion.-Completed 1/31/20 (exactly 9 weeks), quoted 3-10 business days for delivery.-Received 2/20/20, (14 business days).About the quality:As someone who works in the custom furniture industry myself, I am actually blown away by the price, turn around time, and quality of this piece. All the seams are beautiful, finishes are perfect, and down alternative fill feels “heavy” in a good way, that feels like real furniture that will last. The two seat cushions and two back cushions are not attached to the frame, so they can be flipped to the opposite side for more even wear. I fully expect this sofa to serve me well for the next 10 or so years, at which point I hope Total Design will still be around to reupholster it for me!About the ordering process:I reached out to Marc via email to ask questions and get a quote on the piece that I wanted with the customizations I wanted. He was very responsive and was able to get my quote in the system so that it was ready to go when I was ready to purchase. Even though I’m not local, Marc still honored their promotion on Yelp, which was two* free (20”) throw pillows if you checked in.*I received both inserts, but only one case. I assume this is because they didn’t have enough of my fabric to make both. This is on me, and I am extremely appreciative that I was sent both inserts anyway!About the delivery process:For Bay Area delivery, Total Design uses a company called American West to deliver their furniture. It is white glove delivery, which means they will bring the piece all the way in and place it where you would like it to go. Total Design did not immediately receive tracking information when the piece shipped. What this means for you: You might need to reach out to them if you don’t hear from the delivery company within the time they told you you should. You also have to be flexible enough to be able to be home during the day with 24 hrs notice. They called me Wednesday, for a Thursday delivery and assigned me a delivery window. The actual delivery was very quick, it look them about 30 minutes.Tips:-If you choose to supply your own fabric, order at least one extra yard (for plain fabric, or two for patterned) as contingency. Consider this the cheapest insurance policy you’ve ever purchased.-If the free throw pillows are very important to you, consider ordering two additional yards (on top of your contingency yard mentioned above!) to ensure they will have enough yardage. -Get your quote ahead of time so you can get your fabric ordered, so that once you place your order, there is no delay on your end while the workroom waits for your fabric to arrive.-Black Friday seems to be the best (and only) major discount they offer at 25% off.-Expect delays, especially if you order at a busy time like Black Friday! Between fabric shipping, influx of orders, and third party delivery services, a lot of the lead time is out of their control. I had my fabric shipped and it arrived before I even placed my order. I mentally allocated 12-14 weeks to receive the finished product, regardless of what I was quoted. It took 11.All in all, I really can’t recommend this company enough! This experience has been fantastic! Many many thanks to Marc and his team, and Rose for answering all my questions and always following up with me so promptly!

I was recommend to this place by a coworker and glad I took his advice. He had mentioned this place to me when I was first looking for a new sofa and chair but just brushed it off. After a few months of seeing the same thing or over priced pieces, I decided to give this place a try.It was worth every dollar and wait as well(a bit longer than I wanted). I was surprised on how personalized we can make the pieces to fit my needs. That plus having the option to upgrade to better materials that fit my budget. The quality it great and looks even better.I would say the only issues was that it took a week longer thatln estimated but Marc (owner guy) was close in his estimated time it would take. I cant wait to order more pieces from them.

Marc is a life SAVER!!!!!My boyfriend decided to move the house warming party up 2 weeks and thought our old sofas were up to par. Not way. So I want everywhere to looks for something quick, great looking and also reasonably priced. One of my boyfriends friend had mentioned Marc and his company. Because of the distance from my place I pushed that towards the end of locations. After no luck I decided to go and check them out, since there Instagram looks very good. Went and was the best choice I made.They stock some amazing pieces and I was able to get 2 Z chairs which are a Mid Century fan holy grail. That plus this great looking pearsal sofa. Since time was an issue, Marc let me take the 2 display Z chairs last night and he said we can deliver the sofa to me mid this coming week. Just in time for the party. So happy to meet with the Total Design crew and them being able to save my butt.

NO SOFA STILL!I paid for my sofa in summer of 2018. We finalized the leather by December (the casing was already in progress).Marc says he shipped it but it returned because of damage. I asked but was not given a tracking number when it was sent. Last I heard they had received it back and were evaluating the work needed (Marc was coming back from out of country but someone in the shop was supposedly on it).Its been 3 weeks since I have heard from him, though I have texted him and attempted to leave voicemails (box full).I thought Marc was doing a great job of handling my last minute modifications but now I am wondering... Is there a sofa at all? I asked for pictures of the sofa and damage but nothing.I bought a $5,500 leather sectional with walnut casing and down. This is not the kind of service Id expect.I hope Marc will see this and get back to me but I am not a happy camper.

STAY AWAY - BUYER BEWAREI bought an ottoman from Marc of Total Design Furniture in October of 2019. I found the ottoman on his etsy site and when I inquired about it through etsy conversations he invoiced me directly through PayPal. I should have known then he was no good when he skirted paying etsy by handling the transaction off their site. Anyway, when I purchased the ottoman he said it would be built and delivered in about 3 weeks. Three weeks turned into 4, then into 5 then it finally arrived mid-December. The packaging it arrived in was TERRIBLE. See the pictures. Also, the ottoman had a puncture in the leather when I opened it. Im sure the shoddy packaging didnt come close to protecting the ottoman during shipment. I reached out to Marc multiple times to address the damaged piece and told him I wanted to return it for a refund. Not. A. Single. Word. He would not respond to any of my communications. Finally, I had to open a dispute through PayPal to get a refund for the ottoman. HOWEVER, the dispute with PayPal required that I arrange and PAY for return shipping. Return shipping cost almost $300. I have since reported him on BBB to request a refund a for return shipping as well. I should not have arrange for freight shipping (like I know the best way and rates for shipping furniture....that is not my job!) and I should not have to pay for it. Just today I had lug that ottoman down to FedEx BY MYSELF IN THE RAIN. Marc should be ashamed that his female customer is doing his job. Stay away from Marc and his company. I cant stress enough how bad this whole transaction has been.

Same exact experience as Melanie below. The only different is I won one of their Instagram giveaways. $2500 custom furniture of my choice - super generous right? I won it Christmas Day 2018. Ended up finalizing what we wanted mid January. They said 6-8 weeks for build time and 2-3 weeks for shipping time. Almost all communication through Instagram - not quite sure who manages that page or who I was talking to. Message them on April 25 to check in and they said that it’s coming along great and it should be done in 2 weeks and that they were behind on woodworking at the time. June 21st comes along, no communication from them so I reach out again to check in on status. They responded and said it’s almost completed and that the shippers scheduled shipping for mid July due to our geographic location (we are in MN). I asked for a delivery date so I could ensure I’d be home from work and they said they’d get it for me. July 7th rolls around - no shipping date, so I reach out again as we were going out of town and didn’t want them showing up when we weren’t there and they said it was a week and a half out for shipping so we were good to go. I asked for an exact date again and they said the shippers let them know 3 days in advance. Not what I was told before when I asked the first time, but ok I’ll go with it. August 4 rolls around - no communication from them at all. So I reach out yet again explaining that they were supposed to deliver it mid July and still nothing. They responded and said they’d reach out to the shippers. Then on August 12 after not hearing from them, ONCE AGAIN, I message them and asked if they called the shippers and they said to give Marc a call because they ran into an issue (first and only time I ever got a name). Call him right away and he said the furniture got damaged with the shippers and that they were going to ship it back to total design and they were going to fix it for us. They said they’d assess the damage and get back to me in a couple of days. Ok fine - we will wait. August 17 I messaged them on Instagram asking if they’d have time to assess the damage and when it will be fixed and shipped. Someone replied saying “we should Be finishing up this coming week.” August 29 I messaged for an update, no answer. September 1 I messaged for an update, no answer. September 6 I try called Marc’s cell phone, no answer and no way to leave a voicemail because the mailbox was full. So I resorted to Instagram messenger and explained that I realiZe it’s a free giveaway but I still have to claim this on my taxes and two this is terrible customer service and a terrible way to promote your small business. Still no answer... it is now November 7 and we still have yet to receive a message back, have yet to reach Marc and have yet to receive our furniture! If you’re going to have a giveaway to promote your business at least do it the right way. This was a complete scam. You should be ashamed of yourself!

We found this shop on Etsy after looking for a mid-century modern couch. To be on Etsy, it has to be handmade which means there might be imperfections and mistakes made. Its not some machined factory. Handmade also means its going to take time. We had these experiences of delayed products and mistakes unfortunately but they were handled fairly well by TDF and was worth the beautiful couch. You wouldnt get this customer service from Overstock, Ashleys, Wayfair etc. We ordered a selig z style couch end of April with some modifications in a premium fabric that was picked early May. We got the couch end of June but it was the wrong color. Marc sent over the correct color of cushions but unfortunately they were an inch short. Switching covers over the 2 cushion sets wasnt a solution unfortunately. Marc sent another set of covers that fit the original cushions much better. Third times the charm I guess! We definitelyrecommend TDF and Marcs work to others and will be saving up for future pieces. Just dont be in a rush if youre buying from them and for TDF have someone dedicated to customers or quality control.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The experience I have had with Marc has been nothing but disappointing throughout the 4 months I tried to work with him. I dont even know where to start. First off, there was absolutely no communication on his part, NONE. I had to chase him throughout my ordeal. So much time had passed between the time I placed the order and paid deposit and the time he started working on it that he forgot what we agreed on and never bothered to check with me. There was a 10 day period when I tried to contact him via phone, email, Facebook messaging, his associate Jenifers phone, no response. I had to call my credit card company and do a charge dispute because I didnt hear from him for so long. He chose to ignore me probably because after receiving payment in early August he had not started working on my order in November. Finally he emailed me back and said the couch will be ready in a few days. I asked for pictures, he kept stalling until he finally sent me a picture of a couch I do not recognize. Once again, completely different from what we agreed on. After the first mistake I kept sending him a picture of what I wanted over and over again to make sure this time it ill be right and kept asking for pictures along the way. Nothing. I was hoping to get my couch for Thanksgiving, didnt happen, then for Christmas, that didnt happen either. Marc was completely unapologetic and matter of fact as if this was no big deal, as if he didnt keep my money for 4 months and left me hanging. Finally, 20 days before Christmas he said he will give me a refund so I can get myself another couch in time for the holiday?!?!?! Needless to say, I didnt have enough time and after his many promises, he completely failed a customer and ruined my holiday. Moreover, he didnt show the slightest concern or desire to make things right and stopped responding to my messages once again. To say that my experience was disappointing is a huge understatement.

We were told 3 weeks ago we would have pictures of our sofas and they would be shipped out that Tuesday. We never received any pictures, havent received the final invoice for the last half of the payment, and have never received confirmation of our sofas being shipped. We have called several times to only get through to a voicemail that the inbox is full. Emails are not being responded to, and social media comments are not being responded to either. After calling several times multiple times a day we finally got through to the owner and we were guaranteed that we would receive pictures and the shipping invoice within 24 hours as well as a 15% discount. That was a week ago we still have received nothing and are back to not receiving any communication back from them. I honestly do not believe that our sofas have even been built.

I can assure anyone who is reading this, that this not a fake review. I was not promised a discount for giving a good review or any of that nonsense. I I found this shop through Etsy close to 3 months ago, and we decided to take the plunge around Mid-May (todays date is August 3rd) We settled on a style and placed our order during Memorial Day weekend, which coincidentally there was a sale going on. I asked Marc to send me some samples and they arrived within 2 business days. We were told that the order may take longer than usual due to the number of people taking advantage of the sale (4-6 wks to build, 2-3 wks for shipping). Also I asked Marc if it was possible to customize the size from a sofa to a loveseat and he told me yes but it would still cost the same. Since the fabric we chose was premium, we paid a little extra, but again, everything was all up front, no hidden costs. I am happy to say within 9 weeks of ordering, my loveseat arrived in Gilbert, Arizona, right within the time frame promised. The transport people were extremely friendly and bought the piece into the house, even though they were not obliged to do so. The loveseat looks exactly as it did in the picture when I ordered, the woodwork and stitching are topnotch. The only adjustment I need to make is to get some throw pillows, as I am not accustomed to a style with such a recline. Aside from that small issue on my part, this has been almost a perfect transaction, I got exactly what I asked for, Marc was extremely professional and answered all my emails the same day. I could not be more pleased with the loveseat and the customer service. I would recommend Total Design Furniture to anyone! -- Steve Ramirez, Gilbert, AZ

My girlfriend and I were looking into refurnishing the apartment. My sister and her boyfriend came with us to also order a couch. We both placed an order with Marc on the same day and left a deposit. Marc told us they will both be delivered in 3 weeks. They got their couch in 5 weeks (not even what they ordered), and when we asked when our couch would be delivered, we kept getting the runaround. In the 6th week Marc said he would deliver the couch over the weekend. NEVER SHOWED UP. Followed up the 7th week, Marc didnt answer and screened my phone calls. I finally got a hold of Marc on the 8th week, and he told me you got a good price so youll just have to just wait for it, when I have extra time Ill make it. Lastly, he gives you a discount if you write a good review for him, so more than half of these reviews are probably FAKE. This place is a waste of your time!!!

BUYER BEWARE!!!Total Design Furniture is a terribly incompetent and unreliable company. There is a reason why their prices are so cheap, their quality is horrendous. I wouldve rated them a zero if I could. The full timeline and review with pictures can be found on Yelp.I had a 36 wide White Oak round slab and a log stump that I was saving to turn into a coffee table. The round slab was about 9 thick so I wanted to mill it down and turn it into two pieces to make 2 coffee tables. I had been following TDF on Instagram for about 2 years and decided that I wanted to support a small local business.Early Nov. 2017, I emailed Marc, the owner, to get estimates and finalize the design of my coffee table. Basically, I just needed TDF to build 1 metal base, mill my round slab into two pieces and make sure it was flat and level and attach the tops to the metal base and the log stump base.They were running a promotion on Black Friday, so I dropped off the wood at the warehouse and paid a 50% deposit on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017. I should have realized how inefficient their company was that day; Marc was the only person that took orders and he had about 5 customers there, so it took a while for him to get to each person. I was given an estimate of roughly 2 1/2 weeks for the coffee tables to be done and was told that they would contact me for delivery.Dec. 22, 2017 - I emailed Marc about the status of my coffee tables and he said that he was waiting for the metal base to arrive and it should get to their El Monte warehouse after the winter break. Their other warehouse is in Rialto, I dont understand why it would take so long for the base to get to one warehouse to another. I know that I was given an estimate of 2 1/2 weeks for the coffee tables to be finished, but they were already 1 1/2 weeks late.Between Jan. 2018 to final delivery in April 2018 was a ton of terrible communication and lies from Marc.The whole process took 20 WEEKS, instead of the 2-3 weeks originally promised. I cant even use the table, they ruined the White Oak slab and Im going to have to replace the wood top with another material. This has been the WORST experience of my life. Im an interior designer so when I first found out about this place I was excited, but now I make sure that NO ONE I know shops here. The quality of work is HORRENDOUS, the business is run TERRIBLY, and there is NO communication.
