Last year I got an estimate from Lou in the fall season on some canvas work for my boat, he quoted $1100 7 months ago. I called him yesterday and said the job was now $2000 claiming inflation on prices. I am a contractor that does large scale projects and my prices are only up single digits at best while his are nearly 100%. Not only is the way he does business unprofessional, he complained when he picked up the phone that I was calling him on a Sunday for work. I work every single day, and I definitely don’t complain to my customers for contacting me about their projects! Not a true business man
My experience with Admiral Canvas is literally the most unprofessional and regrettable I have ever had with a business. In September 2020, I contracted with Admiral Canvas to repair and reupholster 8 boat seat cushions, to be completed by April 2021, at a total cost of $3,500. I paid Lou a 50 percent down payment, plus 8% sales tax for a total of $1,890. At the time we entered into this contract, I made clear to Lou that the the April 2021 deadline was critical because I intended to list my boat for sale in advance of the summer 2021 boating season.Despite having seven months to complete the job, Admiral Canvas failed to undertake the cushion repair and reupholstery by April 2021, allegedly because it was unable to obtain the proper upholstery material. I expressed my extreme displeasure to Lou he had waited until I contacted him for delivery of the cushions to inform me about the material/supply chain issue, as it was very clear that he had sat on the job for seven months and done nothing until I called in April 2021 to inquire about delivery. Lou did not appreciate me expressing my displeasure about the quality of service I had received and advised me several times that nobody f*@ks” with him. I do not believe I was fing with anyone -- I simply expected a certain level of professionalism and care from Admiral Canvas after paying the business an almost $2,000 down payment. In spite of the myriad red flags, I made my next mistake and gave Admiral Canvas an opportunity to rectify the situation. Lou obtained suitable alternative material in May 2021 and provided me with a sample, which I immediately approved. But for the next month-and-a-half Lou continued to stall and he repeatedly lied to me about his intention to finish the job. He engaged in sophomoric stalling tactics, including claiming unspecified family emergencies and alleging that he had found a buyer for my boat. Finally fed up with Lous deception and evasion, in June 2021 I issued a written demand that he either provide me with a firm date when Admiral Canvas would complete the job, or return my cushions immediately. Lou ignored my demand, forcing me to engage an attorney to demand the return of the cushions under the threat of legal action. He finally did return the cushions in the exact state he had taken them in September 2020 -- he literally had not touched the cushions in nine months -- but he refused to refund my down payment for failing to complete any portion of the repair job.I am pursuing recovery via several channels, and the final disposition of my very regrettable experience with Admiral Canvas is TBD. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and Admiral Canvas’s response was full of blatant lies. As a small business owner myself, the lack of integrity, ethics and professionalism is just astounding to me. I cannot caution strongly enough against doing business with Admiral Canvas and Lou.
Great workmanship. Came with a one off item and was made quick and exactly as requested.
Lou reupholstered a dental chair for me. His service was excellent as was the quality of the materials and craftsmanship. I am a satisfied customer for sure.
I found the owner, Lou, to be very knowledgeable of canvas and other textile technology. Hes very willing to help on specialized projects. His stitching and sewing skills are superb. You can expect a well crafted product from this business.
Lou does great work! We are very pleased with our newly covered exam chairs! Highly recommend Admiral Canvas!
Though I dont know a great deal about their actual product, this company ordered more than $500 worth of hats and shirts to be embroidered with their logo from my family business on 5/1/13. As they had done this before, we had no reason to suspect they would abandon the order without first notifying us.We subsequently called the gentleman (Lou) in charge of handling the orders several times over the course of a year, leaving messages indicating that the order was completed. Only one or two of the first calls were answered, in which the gentleman claimed he hadnt come in yet because he kept forgetting that his order was ready. It was only today, 8/4/14, when I called the gentleman from my PERSONAL phone, that he answered his phone (clearly not expecting to hear my voice, being that I was not using a recognizable business phone number) and informed me that he had decided to place the order with another company. When I questioned WHY he had neglected to inform us of this--particularly since he knew the order had already been completed-- for over a year, his answer consisted of a vague apology and attempts to quickly extricate himself from the conversation, interspersed with claims of saving a few nickels or dimes.I am posting this because, even though I am not a consumer of the products put out by Admiral Canvas Co, such an incident should lead us all to wonder: IF THIS IS THE WAY HE CONDUCTS BUSINESS WITH HIS VENDORS, WHAT DOES IT SUGGEST ABOUT THE WAY HE CONDUCTS BUSINESS WITH HIS CUSTOMERS?
