I loved this place from the moment I walked in. There was a small town back country feel to this store. I really felt like I was back in my home state. There was a great selection of yarn, spinning wheels, and classes. The classes they have are anywhere from beginners to advanced in Crochet and knitting. I loved the service I received there and am I very much looking forward to the learn to knit class.
I travelled a bit to visit this shop. Store is nice inside and a great selection of yarn available. However, it was all a bit too expensive for me. It would have been nice to see more affordable yarn options.
Was skeptical about this class I took, but ended up really enjoying it. I was worried o would be terrible at knitting since I learned to crochet first. The woman teaching the class really took the time to make sure we were all up to speed before moving on to the next thing. Im confident I can learn to knit now.
Stopped in while in town and was pleasantly surprised by this yarn store. Staff was super friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of local artisan yarn and it has a great vibe. And everyone was wearing masks!
Wonderful staff was extremely helpful. And an amazing selection of yarn and fiber!
Nice little yarn shop with a little bit of everything. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend
The store was busy and there were classes in progress, but plenty of friendly and welcoming staff available to help customers. They have a very nice selection of yarn/fibers. I enjoyed my visit and plan to return again soon.
Fabulous yarn store with plenty of brands to choose from. I love how the yarn is arranged by weight. Friendly, helpful staff. Absolutely worth a visit.
Lovely yarn shop with a large variety of yarns in every weight. Several local yarns and dyers. Friendly, helpful staff. A must visit shop.
Quality yarn. Large assortment to choose from; wools, cottons, and alpaca. Friendly staff and great customer service! Garment samples available so you can see how the yarn will work with the project you have in mind. Plus you get a punch card for a 15% discount in the future.
I’m a bit frustrated. I took the learn to knit class and found that it’s not a hobby I’m Interested it (I like crochet better). I had to purchase yard and needles just for the class that I’ll never use again... $30 wasted. seems like something they should include with the class, since we’re there to learn.
The employees were very helpful and extraordinarily friendly! One of them explained different yarn types to me and helped me find what I needed for my project. Ill definitely be coming back any time I need yarn. I also signed up for their beginner knitting class!
Everyone there is so helpful. They have the most delicious yarn
Had a daddy daughter date learning to knit. We never thought we would love to knit so much but Im so glad we went and tried it out. Everybody was so patient and so nice I would definitely recommend it.
Always friendly and there to help with anything you need. Fabulous stock. Well worth the drive I make.
This is my wifes favorite shop. We are from Michigan and ever time we are in the area we have to stop. Whats a 3 hour flight for your favorite yarn shop.
Amazing store with unique yarn and a helpful staff.
Very helpful staff with good mask adherence!
I have been a customer for over almost 3 years. The selections keep growing and are just unique and fabulous!!!Fantastic place with incredible choices of yarns and more!!Attended a loom class which was very informative. Amanda is wonderful at explaining, hands on learning!! Terry and all the girls are just too kind, all the time!!!This is a rare treasure in Arizona, encourage ALL to just check it out!!!Thank you Tempe Yarn & Fiber for making my new to loom experience a great one!!!!
Best local yarn shop Ive seen anywhere. Staff are all amazing, atmosphere is super welcoming, selection includes a lot of variety with local work showcased.
Yes I have seen this place because someone took me here. The whole shop is on the smaller side but it really is a cool place. If I am not mistaken, please forgive me if I am, this place has some animal fir yarn in it as well.
Friendly informative staff. Great quality
Im visiting from out of town and my friend brought me to this lovely shop! All of the employees were so friendly and helpful. They gave us a tour first thing and were great with all of my questions. Got a beautiful locally dyed gradient yarn and some cute turquoise skull stitch markers. Would visit again!
My sister and I took their Learn to Knit class from Groupon and we really loved it!Robin is very knowledgeable and very helpful toward helping you figure out your mistakes when you inevitably mess up a stitch. The store itself is very friendly toward helping you understand the difference between different yarns and really building a knitting community. Were looking forward to taking the next class!
Great selection and staff
Ive been here several times to buy yarn and other supplies, and I have always felt welcomed. The staff have been helpful explaining the layout of the store and answering my questions about colors for my planned projects. When I got a yarn ball winder, someone gave me a demonstration of how it worked (on a different model, but she explained what the differences were). I also got recommendations for other equipment, like a drop spindle and fiber. They offer a variety of classes, but Ive never taken one, so I cant comment on how those are.
I would love to shop local shop small but this store makes it very difficult. They have beautiful locally dyed yarns but Im not sure if its a stocking issue or a dyer issue, there only seems to be one skein of each color and when Im making a project I need more than one skein, especially of a hand dyed color. I was told the dyer does that because knitters make one pair of socks- well Im sorry but knitters make more than socks! or possibly they want to use the same colorway and make matching socks for the entire family. I can purchase hand dyed yarn on etsy, any number of online sources but I would like to shop local, I cant do that if the store only has one skein and I need several. I dont use the large produced brands (cascade, universal etc so none of that appeals to me)The staff is nice, friendly and tries to help but the lack of stock is a huge draw back.
Came from out of town and it was an okay experience. I particularly liked the trunk show the best.Wish there were more samples and patterns using with their house yarn on display—part of the lure to local yarn shops is local designers showing off their patterns and local yarn.
I loved the energetic greeting when I walked into this shop yesterday, 2-8-19. They have beautiful yarn and samples . The staff wasKnowledgeable. Accessories were a plus.I would recommend this place to all my fiber friends! .
Lets be honest, wherever I buy my Cascade Heritage or my local hand dyed, its the same yarn. Prices are pretty set. I spend my money where I am treated best, because thats the variable. (And I spend alot of money on yarn. Like, alot. Its embarrassing. ) Every single person working in this story was energetic, helpful, not bothersome. Right up until we went to check out. The check out person (I heard she was related to the owner) was short, no eye contact, not friendly, not accommodating, didnt offer to assist responding questions. We left a 150$ sale sitting on the counter. And all she said was fine. Pretty sure there are other yarn stores. Lets see about their customer service.
Very disappointing experience with customer service. I bought needles just before closing one day. I tried to exchange them (not just return them) the next day as they were the wrong size and was told it was not allowed. This was not told to me when I purchased them and was given a ridiculous answer for the reason. In my home town I have purchased needles only to realize I already had that particular size, and the store did accept the return. Ill look for other stores in the area
An amazing shop with very friendly people. The people here are the ones who inspired me to learn how to knit, spin yarn, color yarn, and crochet. Every time I go in I find something I love.
Attentive staff and knowledgeable. Great selection of assorted fibers and blends.
I was hesitant to visit because of other reviews but the problems were unfounded. The staff was very helpful to find a pattern and a local yarn to use. They even balled the hank for me! I will definitely return.
Amazing SelectionI highly recommend Tempe Yarn & Fiber. The people who work there know their yarn and knitting and crocheting.
Great store!
The staff were EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. Outstanding selection of yarns. They even helped us after our cell phone died, printed a map and saved us! I highly recommend this store.
Thank you for your patience with helping me. Your store has always been enjoyable to go to and the staff is wonderful.
Beautiful yarn and helpful so aff
I return to this store everytime I come for a visit. I love the variety and the energy in this store. It makes me happy to go there!
Not knowing a lot about knitting the employee was extremely helpful and didnt sell us stuff we didnt need.
Today, was my first transaction with Tempe Yarn & Fiber, and it was also my last.I attended Tempe Yarn & Fibers 3 hour Learn to Knit course. When the instructor Robin was asked to repeat knitting steps because she went too fast for me or was doing them on the other side of the table, she continued to be curt, dismissive and rude.Finding myself searching my phone for a YouTube video showing a slower, friendlier, more thorough explanation to what Robin was teaching, I decided it was time to leave.Robin decided to change her demeanor when she saw me packing up and finally offered to assist me which I declined. At that time, Robin also let me know private lessons were available if that would be a better option. (Yeah Robin, I will get right on that the second Tuesday of next week! Why on earth would I ever give YOU another penny of MY money? I STILL want the money back that I lost to you in the first place.)Since I had only stayed less than 1 hour of the 3 hour class, I asked for a refund and was declined. Needless to say, I cancelled the other course I had registered to attend.Well, Tempe Yarn & Fiber - you lost a new customer today. How much did it cost you to attract me and how much did you just lose because I left unhappy? I suggest you pick your instructors more wisely if you are using them to help you market your business because it backfired on you today. Dick Blick, the nearby art supplier, should send you a thank you card. The money I had set aside to spend with your business today went to them.As for my knitting supplies and lessons, I will simply take my business to your competition - the internet. In an effort to support local business, I drove from North Phoenix to give your company a shot and you blew it!Thank you for wasting my time and gas; the experience with your company was truly disappointing.
TLDR summary: friendly, knowledgeable, great selection. Stop here and give them your money so they’re wildly successful and still around for all of my vacations to Arizona. (And also because they deserve your business.)I spotted this place while eating across the strip mall with my girlfriend while on vacation from Chicago. I am guy who taught himself knitting in high school to impress girls. I promptly forgot about it for 15 years until I decided to knit scarves for my cats. Needless to say, I was terrified of going in here and being shamed for my lack of knowledge and skill. I feared that they wouldn’t let me taint their vastly superior yarn with my primitive abilities.I walked out with the best experience I’ve had at any store, ever. Also a set of ChiaoGoo Red Lace circulars. Needless to say my (knitting) life has changed drastically since. When I was firmly planted in Chicago I was reminded that ants need scarves here so I broke out the needles to try. The expression on my face was probably similar to the first person to mount a rocket. I had no idea anything could be so fast but so fun. It’s been long enough that I cannot remember the name of the lady who helped me, but she was so far beyond amazing. She was kind and supportive in the face of my atrocious techniques and lack of knowledge. She spent the time to help me find the right needles. This is no small feat, as I knew as much about knitting needles as I do about brain surgery, so I didn’t even know what I wanted. She sorted all of that out. The selections of yarns are amazing, like nothing I’ve seen. They can be fairly pricey but the expensive ones are usually local and so well worth it.Make the trip here, forget Michaels or Jo-Ann it anything that isn’t Tempe Yarn and Fiber.
I love this store. The people who work there are tremendously helpful.
So very helpful, friendly and encouraging. I love this store.
Awesome and amazing shop. I feel so good going in there because everyone is so friendly and helpful.
I came here to learn the basics of knitting. The class was fine. Not too many people in each class so that there can be personal instruction. You learn to cast on, knit two styles of stitches and how to leap frog. In the beginning, the instructor goes over the information on the yarn label. The start of the class is a slow but its mostly hands on. After this class, I went home and stitched for hours each day. Time flies when stitching. Made many, many mistakes and must have started over a dozen times. However, after nearly a week, I began to learn how the knitting comes together and go back to where I made a mistake without having to start over. Eventually, this will click. I gave this rating a three for a few reasons. One, I chose the non superwashed wool. This means you have to handwash this only. I was told by one of the ladies this would be best to start learning on and improving my technique. In the class, it felt contradictory. It was not the prefered choice of the instructor but it boils down to personal preference. Second, it seems I was very slow in learning how to knit. I have never attempted this previously. I was a knitting virgin. Being told that knitting a simple stitch will be challenging did not bring good feelings about staying there. I kept on knitting as best as I could and could tell the instructor was annoyed with me. She tended to the others first and i kept going even if I made an error. Keep in mind, when they show you, you are sitting in front of the instructor not seeing the same point of view. Even when they try to angle themselves a certain way, those on the opposite side cant follow along. Lastly, its not professional conduct to show disslike for another arts and crafts store just to make a point that the yarn purchased there is better quality. Eventually, people will know. Otherwise, if you want to learn the basics of knitting, the deal they offred on groupon was worth the price.
They are always helpful and provide great service.
This is my favorite yarn shop anywhere. The staff is friendly and knowledge and their selection is excellent.
Their name says it all
