We have ordered engines in the past from SSI and have had good experiences. The last experience was the complete opposite. We installed a complete assembly in a 2010 Forester X 2/8/2018 and it came back with a massive oil leak on 3/28/18. The rear main seal was leaking. We contacted Jerry, sent numerous pictures and he promised to make it right. He said he was sending a check for our cost on the labor. That check was never received. The Forester then came in for a routine oil change on 4/24/2018. All was well. We received a call over 200 miles away on 6/14/2018 and the car had started to smoke out of the tail pipe, lost power, engine light came on and had to be towed at our expense. The customer needed the car back ASAP. We got a small block from the local Subaru dealer next day, installed it and all is well. When we got the heads off of the unit and sent them to the machine shop before installing on small block, all of the valves had to be replaced because they were ground too thin. Poor workmanship to say the least. I contacted Jerry by phone and he truly did not care and never responded to my emails or pictures sent. Although a good product in the past, I caution you now.

If I could give negative stars I would!!Do NOT give them a penny!! This company absolutely does NOT stand behind their work! After getting what they called a long block for a Subaru, we ended up at the actual Subaru dealer with an engine leak. The REAL Subaru specialists at the dealer said absolutely that the leak was an error on SSIs part... and that the long block was not - by any industry standards- a complete long block engine.Cant wait for our attorney to finish the paperwork and handle this!SSI claims not their responsibility (Really? Who rebuilt this entire engine?)So, over SSIs refusal to stand by their workmanship and to reimburse the $800 that we had to pay out now to have the dealer fix it correctly, we will now go after ALL the false claims and faulty workmanship.Buckle up SSI!

I would never get my car fixed here they have no clue what they are doing as they use cheap and old parts that are usually from other broken engine to fix whatever your issue is. DO NOT TRUST THEM. GO TO SUBIE GUYS NEXTDOOR!!!!!

Great service, motor was built quick and is very reliable and healthy. 100% would use SSI again. I never had any contact issues and it was even during the holidays when my motor was being worked on.

Three weeks after I got a new-to-me 2010 Foz it spun a rod. The dealer wanted 6500 for a reman short block with a 1 year warranty. SSI installed a new long block with a massively better warranty for 2k less! Not only that, Jerry drove clear across the state to come pick it up at that price. Jerry knows what hes doing with 25 years+ building and working on Subarus, even running a rally team for awhile. I know he sends Subie motors all over the world. Jerry had turned my car around quickly because I was on a tight schedule, so he didnt have it long. I had a small oil leak pop up, which frankly happens and is incredibly common after an engine swap. Its not new motor on new drivetrain when swapping (theres wear and the chaos of, in my case, 100k miles), so its understandable. Jerry stood by his product and work, and came all the way across the state to pick up the car again. He found the problem, and its been running like a champ for many months now. I have full confidence in SSI, and would do business with them again in a heartbeat.

They did a long block rebuild on my 06 spec b and the motor ran fine for about 2 months then started knocking very badly me being new to Subaru and performance cars in general i didn’t know a break in tune was required for a brand new motor. I paid their partner company subie guys for a street tune because they had no dyno. I was charged for them to press 4 buttons on the Cobb access port and throw the stage 2 tune on immediately after getting a new motor that did not have the specific list Cobb required for the stage 2 tune. SSI also screwed up the throttle body and somehow coolant leaking into parts it shouldn’t. I now live in Virginia and wasn’t able to take it back to them thankful i had a very very good shop rebuild a lot of the motor and fix the throttle body and also a dyno Tune. Off the bar SSI claimed it would only be 4500 for the long block rebuild but the total bill ended up being upwards of 7000. These guys are sketchy as hell, will not return my calls or emails. After spending so much money on a rebuild you think they would value me as a customer and at least hear my complaint. The one time they answered me I told them my name and car and they immediately hung up and haven’t answered sense. Please if you are going to get your motor rebuilt do not take it to anywhere in Michigan but BCP. Those guys are Subaru wizards and actually know how to rebuild a motor. Following all the mistakes i put another 2000 into the car. Also being in a auto program i learned that there is no quote rule in Michigan. If you go to another state whatever they quote you is what they will charge, In Michigan there is no rule they can quote you whatever and charge way more. All in all SSI Is an awful sketchy company even though they have a long history with Subaru’s do not trust them.

BUYER BEWARE. I would not do business with company if I were you. My Subaru dealership verified internal engine problem as well as my personal mechanic after the engine did not work AFTER ONLY HAVING IT FOR A WEEK. He did not honor warranty and conned into sending the engine back only to say he was keeping it as collateral for shipment costs. He had told me I could pick to have a new engine or refund and then did not honor what he had said. It took 3.5 months to get nothing from it and now Im out the original core engine. Horrible customer service, horrible communication, horrible business practices and horrible person to deal with. He will tell you he has so many years experience and never had issues but that is likely not the case as it wasnt in my experience. Business is not honest. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS!!!

I had a very good experience with Jerry at SSI Subie Specialists. I ordered my engine at the end of February. Since I live in Michigan, Jerry planned to deliver it himself the very next day. When he woke up sick the next morning, he had it shipped by a freight company at his own expense. The engine was installed by my shop within a few days. Everything was great for the first several weeks until one day the oil light came on. All of the oil had leaked out and 2-3 parts, including a cam seal, had to be replaced. Strictly speaking, these parts arent covered by the warranty (which is spelled out on their website). But, believing that these parts should not fail after so little use, Jerry covered the cost of their replacement. It was quite a relief to find that I had bought from a man who stood by his product. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing to replace the engine in your Subaru, I highly recommend calling SSI.

Stay away from this company they will not honor their warranty. I purchased an engine from them, it threw a rod 8000 miles later, they would not cover it.

Ordered engine with new timing components. The timing components were never shipped and I have had no luck contacting the company since. Have called at least 10 times and sent emails over the past few weeks. I am being completely ignored
