Time and time again, AIR has gone above and beyond excellent vehicle service for me and my family. John and his staff are friendly, honest, understanding, and truly willing to help those in need. Over the years weve taken our vehicles there for standard maintenance, but also consulted with them at times when I wanted to grow my DIY skills. On many occasions theyve helped us out of a jam, providing assistance on non-standard issues just because theyre good people. To me AIR sets a gold standard through trustworthiness, general kindness, and standing behind their work. They deserve more than 5-stars!

My name is Walner and I recently just brought my 2009 VW GTI to this shop for the first time. I initially had my car towed here on Thursday the 21st, because it was misfiring really badly. On Friday the 22nd at around 4:30pm they call me to tell me that all they did was switch the spark plugs and coils around to differently cylinders and that the car was fine after that. I told them that there is definitely more to the problem then just switching the spark plugs and coils around. So they kept the car to continue looking” for the problem. I drove by late Friday afternoon and I noticed car was sitting outside, which means that they didnt bother to look at it and lied to me about doing all these different diagnostics. On Saturday the 23rd I decided to give them a call to find out any new updates on my car. The person that I spoke with on the phone told me the exactly same thing that they had told me on Friday. And once again I told them that there has to be more to the problem. Yesterday Tuesday the 26th they call me and spoke with the owner as of what was happening with my car and again... he tells me the same exact thing, he recommends replacing all coils and all spark plugs. So I decided to go in person and spoke with the owner about what needs to be done to get the car running normal again. He was still saying that I needed to replace my coils. I asked him to start the car for and after a couple minutes of the car being on I noticed smoke coming out from under the intake manifold. And it turned out that it was a brass fitting that they had messed with when they did the fuel pressure test was leaking fuel. They claim that they performed a fuel pressure test and that fuel pressure seemed to be normal at 50bar when in reality the car was leaking fuel from the fuel rail. After almost a week of having my car all they did was throw in a new coil and tighten up the brass fitting to stop the fuel leak.Public announcement: These mechanics, especially the owner are not knowledgeable, very unprofessional, and lie to clients about diagnostics. I highly recommend not bringing your cars for service here. And if you do please be aware that they won’t always tell you the truth.

I cant believe I havent rated these guys before! Ive come here for years with my last 3 cars (2 Hondas and a Mazda). They have great prices, and they are quick (while still being accurate) when they are diagnosing a problem with your car. They will let you know what is wrong, and will let you know the severity and how long you can go without getting certain parts fixed. Great customer service!

Low price, quality work, and honesty. They did great work on my 328 I BMW for half the price the BMW dealership quoted me at. They even found a problem that was still covered under the BMW warranty, and suggested I take it there to have it fixed for free. They could have not told me about the warranty, and charged me for the work. My car runs like its brand new. Thanks guys!!

After a misplaced key (accidentally pocketed by a family member who will remain nameless) delayed my initial appointment for my BMW 3 series, they got me in promptly at the next opportunity. Not only did they find the reason the car was having lean air codes and randomly stalling (a failed dipstick tube seal), they fixed it for barely more the cost of the diagnosis, and went so far as to advise me in detail about a couple other future recommendations. The gentleman at the desk (apologies for blanking on his name) also answered my random questions patiently and knowledgeably. An excellent experience, and worth recommending to others.

I had been going to the Audi dealership in Fife for years, and for years I felt foolish for letting myself be ripped off for work done on my car. So I decided to check out AIR for a major repair. I compared prices for the timing belt/water pump. AIR was $1k less than the dealership quote, which lured me in the door. My 2008 Audi needed more stuff done (motor mounts and an expensive gasket). Although it was a big chunk of change my car no longer leaks oil or shudders. I was able to call and speak with Karla about my concern over taking a long trip. The trip to California went without a problem, or a drop of oil. I found the work done at AIR to exceed that that I had gotten done at the dealership. I am glad I found an alternative to the dealer that is honest and competent!

The AIR crew is great. They work on all our euro cars. Consider them for a pre-purchase inspection before your next used car purchase. They will help identify what you are investing in which may help you negotiate a better deal if work is needed. No surprises from the AIR team. Fair pricing and super knowledgeable team. They are the Pierce county German car experts.

Edited review_____________________Im taking one star off of my original review. Overall, the shop is pretty good, but recently things have just not been quite up to what I had come to expect at this shop. These may be minor in the eyes of some, but to me these are the differences between excellent and outstanding. My chief complaints recently:1. On both of the last two times I brought vehicles in for service, I find that the dash cams had been disconnected. Perhaps this is a new policy they have, but I felt they at least could have plugged them back in so they work when I pick the car up. While Ive never bothered to look at the recordings when I picked up my cars, it does make me wonder what they may be hiding.2. I have always asked for Mercedes coolant to be used when servicing my cars. I made a point to ask this time. Usually, this request is honored. For some reason a different coolant was used this time.3. I take pride in keeping my cars clean both inside and out. When returned, the engine cover had coolant overspray all over it. This is a minor complaint, but its a bit annoying that I have to clean it again.4. I had asked for an estimate on replacing the transmission shift lever lock. I was never given one. Not a huge deal, but it was a job they could have performed had they bothered to quote on that.5. Finally, when I picked up the car that had the coolant work done on it, there was still air in the system. I realize it eventually self bleeds, but I would definitely want to make sure everything was working properly before I delivered a car back to a customer.Overall, this shop is pretty good, but its just not where it used to be.Original review below------------------------------------I have used this repair shop for several of my Mercedes. To start off, let me say that Im very picky. I want a quality repair. I want them to use quality OE or OEM parts. I want a shop that stands by their repairs. I want to be treated with respect and listened to. And, I want a fair price. AIR hits all of these marks. Believe me, Ive tried several other shops in the Tacoma area and no other comes close. If youre looking for something dirt cheap, or dont really care about fixing it right, go somewhere else. But, if you car about how you and your car are treated, this is the best place Ive found. Also, if youre looking for a good place for tires, check out University Place Tire. They are related to AIR repair, and Ive had good luck with them too!

I have been taking my Volvos to AIR since moving to this area in 2003. John and his crew have proved themselves professional, fair, patient and most knowledgeable. Though their website explicitly says they service both domestic and imports, they now apparently only service imports-- something we had to learn after our car was towed there for service, and they refused to even look at it. Not sure what their actual maintenance quality is, but not impressed with their customer service or attention to detail.

I will never go here ever again. I took my car here and now Im out $1400 and the problem I took it I for isnt fixed. I specifically asked when I dropped my car off to fix whatever they needed to to get my car running safely and smoothly on the road. After 12 days of waiting and excuses about waiting for parts or now this or that is wrong I get a call and go pick it up. After Ive paid and am getting ready to go the guy who owns the shop tells me there Might be a little shaking because a coil MIGHT need to be replaced but he would just take it out on the freeway and blow out whatever is built up. Im not a mechanic or car savvy whatsoever so Im thinking hes doing me a favor and saving me money, but that was not the case. Just like when I dropped the car off my car would shut off if the rpms dropped below the 1 on the dial but he said I just needed to take it out and get the engine blown out. Against my gut feeling I hop on the freeway with my shaking car that shuts off when you take your foot off the gas (the brakes lock and wheel locks when the car shuts off). BAD IDEA!!!!!! Your car SHUTTING OFF on the FREEWAY isnt safe!!! LUCKILY no accident and I was able to get the car home. This was a Thursday and I couldnt get a hold of the shop until the following Tuesday and I was told I would get a call back. Didnt happen and I tried the next day. Same result. Finally talk to someone following day and they tell me I have to pay for a new diagnostic and more money for the labor to fix whatever they didnt when I brought my car in to begin with. So Ive been stuck with no car and out $1400. I have 2 kids I have to try to coordinate rides for school or anything that requires leaving home. He should be ashamed of himself and how he operates his business, but people who do things like this have no heart to feel bad.

Short- Ive taken my e30 bmw to them for work twice, and will be retuning whenever I need to.Long- I try to repair and maintain my vehicles myself, and my current chariot is a 91, so most everything is fairly simple, but its also a tight fit, and 27 year old metal and plastic is not always cooperative. Hence the first time I took it, to get the timing belt and water pump replaced, with parts that I had already. They performed the work perfectly, no more, no less, and for about $60 less than the best estimate from anyone on this side of the bridge. The second time, my driveshaft support failed out of town, on memorial day weekend. Being after hours, I couldnt get ahold of anyone directly, so I had it towed to a parking lot down the street, sent an email about it, and hoped it might get looked at by Friday. I called Tuesday, and was told it would get looked at Wednesday. I got a call again Wednesday with exactly what it needed and a breakdown of what each part cost, owing to previous experiences, I cross-shopped for parts to see if I could save some money. I could have, but only if I waited a week for shipping. The premium I would have paid to get the parts by Sunday matched their price to have it BY Friday. BY was the very important operative word, everything was done Thursday. I picked the car up the day I hoped it would be inspected by, and paid about the same same amount for labor as before, meaning they did it in about half the time I would have.Bottom line- Go. You will receive fair prices, quality work, and excellent customer service and support.

Ok heres the story about my experience with this company. My 2004 Volkswagen Touareg drivers side headlight went out. My car uses the Bi-Xenon HID system and the bulbs can be expensive. Thinking that it was just a burnt out bulb I went to OReillys and bought a new one. After replacing it, the headlight was still out. I finally broke down and went to an auto shop to have it inspected. AIR Import diagnosed that the headlight was blowing fuses and the main control module for the headlight needed to be replaced. It was $625.00 for the part! After the parts and labor I was almost a thousand dollars into a headlight repair. I later researched the same part online (OEM brand new) for around $250. After they installed the control module the mechanics said that the new headlight bulb I had purchased didnt work so I paid an additional $185 to have another one installed. I was now well over a thousand dollars for a simple repair.Although most repair shops roughly charge between $90-100 for hourly labor, I felt that AIR Import failed to address the best possible repair to potentially save me, the customer, money. This was a total scam. On top of that, a few hours after the repair, the headlight went out again. I gave it a little TLC with my fist which tightened up the connection on the back of the headlight. I also replaced the original bulb I bought from OReillys and found out that it also worked. I called AIR Import to dispute and possibly be reimbursed for their false assessment which cost me money. They refused to take the bulb back and showed very poor customer service and retainability for any future services.I would never recommend this company to anyone. Understandably, when you own a European vehicle like Audi, BMW, or Volkswagen it is probable that you may spend more on parts than a GM vehicle. However, AIR Import was outrageous in how they assessed the problem as it seemed to be only geared towards profits. Buy-and-large, it is important for mechanic shops to maintain a good customer base to stay in business because mechanics are a dime-a-dozen and they dont receive constant business. Also, for their policies to not have any room for reimbursement is ridiculous.I did most of my business with the manager/owner John Smith. AIR Import has been operating for 30 years with John the last 10 years. If they want to continue for another 30 years they better come up with some better policies and customer service.I would never recommend this place to anyone regardless of the vehicle make. There are plenty of European mechanic shops out there who will provide better mechanical service and customer care.
