Nice little Hawaiian diner. You got it all here. The aunties were very sweet and attentive to our table
Excellent except poi (usually fresh n my fav) was beginning to be sour. So I couldnt e a t or share it.
NEW LOCATION!Thankfully they have dine-in service, but it’s between a certain timeframe. Call before going, I recommend. If you’re dinning in, you enter through the front door. Order and pay before sitting down.We got our food so quick! Everyone is so friendly. We definitely miss Aunty Penny though! :)
No frills, excellent food. Who needs all the other stuff when the quality is so high and the food speaks for iteself. Had the BBQ Chicken- tender meat, smokey, not drenched in any sauce... just pure. Will recommend to everyone that comes to Oahu. Poke is one of the best I have ever had.
Had two of their big platters to sample and everything was very good would definitely get one. Its a large portion so I was able to split it We also had their water crest soup and that was a bit salty. Recommend the squid lau lau. Chicken long rice was sorta of boring. If you order out, their packaging is great and nothing spilled or leak even though we dropped the box.
Excellent service, great taste food! BUT the portions are super small! Example they offer the Okinawa sweet potatoe as an item on their diff Hawaii plates offered on menu AND as a side. I believe the side was over $2-$3+++. I order a side thinking I would get at least ½ to 1 small Okinawa potato. Imagine my shock when I see only 2 SMALL SLICES thatd been trimmed because they needed spots cut off. That happens with all potatoes. Anyway I was not happy paying$40+tip of 15%+tax which total almost $47 for portions that were so small they looked like samples! Dont get me wrong the staff was really great and deserved their tips! Because of the staff I will give Hawaii inn another try in hopes that maybe the small portions was just a mistake.
A MUST-TRY while in Oahu! To be concise...the atmosphere is cozy, the food is amazing and the staff are among the friendliest you will find on the island! If you are in the mood for some authentic, Hawaiin food, slip on your flip-flops and head over to the Highway Inn! No need for dressy attire, simply bring an appetite!
Poke was greatd (fresh spicy ahi and fresh limu), haupia was amazing, and limo salmon was good too. Takeout was easy to order and filling it was fast. Thank you!
Great hospitality, true Hawaiian experience. Very friendly staff and amazing food as usual. Will be back
First trip to Hawaii, and we had to try some Hawaiian food! Our server was amazing. He led us through our meal, explaining the different kinds of foods and giving us samples before we ordered. Delicious food, and huge portions. Should definitely visit for some authentic Hawaiian food in downtown Honolulu.
Gotta support our local restaurants especially the hawaiian ones not too many places sell hawaiian food. Its just as good as I remember.
Amazing food, Amazing Service, Great people all around. Love the place at my first time with my grandma Aunty and my two boys on Monday
Love this place. Cannot go wrong here. One of the best places to have authentic hawaiian food. When hawaiians come here for family reunions and dinner, you know its thee place to go. Good service and great food.
Wow! Read the reviews online and decided to bring the family here. It did not disappoint and the entire family from 3-70 years old enjoyed wonderful local Hawaiian food. The Loco Moco and Pork Lau Lau were incredible and the staff was excellent. Our favorite meal on the island.
I was so excited to eat here....it was packed today so I decided to order take out. I ordered the pork laulau combo, a side poi, and poke. My total came out to $52...😲 no poke, the kalua pig tasted different, everything that came with the laulau came in small sauce cups. They gave me chicken laulau instead 🤦♀️ wasnt happy. Was not worth $52!!! I try to call to let them know about my missing poke, hard to get through. So Ill take a lost. Now I know!!
Not enough food for the money. All in one combination meal was nicely packaged but I would have preferred my money to go toward quantity of food. Portion sizes are smaller than the comparable combination plate at Youngs fish market.
Smoked Moco with fried rice was delicious. Great service!
Great food. Service was excellent, our waiter was very nice and patient.
Theres really no reason for you not to eat here. The Lau Lau is really great, all of their pork is tasty, and the Hawaiian stew was surprisingly good as well. All in all four of us got out of here with dinner and drinks for $120, which is a great value for Hawaii!
Wow had the pork laulau. Was sooooo gooood! Nice and meaty. Couldnt finish the last few bites. Highly recommended. I forgot to take photo, but was nice & fresh. A definite cut above those premade store bought ones.
L♡VE the squid lūʻau 😍😋
Sorry... 1st time curbside order on time on a Saturday... order was on point mini fried rice 1 egg w/green onions almost as good as moms. Today curbside 15-20 late no green onions in FR. Mustve been busy
Food was ok at best and service was slow.
If you are a tourist and have a craving for all the local dish you have read in a foodies blog, you can find it all here at the Highway Inn, The lau lau with the squid being our favorite, the loco moco, the chicken long rice, there was not one dish that was a disappointment and the price beats all the other place we visited this trip
Good portions. Homemade feel.
I was informed about the Beef Stew and the awesome local food here today. I orders food Chicken Lau Lau, Beef Stew Double and the Double Chicken Long Rice. When I say everything is soooooooo ONOOOOOO!!!! THANKS TO MY COWORKER KAREN..
Awesome place. But, since Covid19 things has changed with dining in. The food is the one thing that never changed. Ono (good) hawaiian food.
Old school Hawaii fave. If youre visiting and want a truly local and off the tourist track experience and menu, check them out! Fantastically (and unusually for here) they have great vegetarian options including loco moco!
Lau Lau not cooked all the way. Leaves were firm. This has been a problem for this location for years. Im over this place. Very sad and disappointed 😞
Been wanting squid luau and this was the place to go. In light of the pandemic they have good policies in place for safety for all working and visiting. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and hit the spot. Its about a $$ rating on prices but its worth the treat.
It was strange to be charged for my fork. so i told them no and went home with my food.
Great food. Loved everything we tried. Would go again. Service was great.
Restaurant was very aware of and complied with COVID guidelines without sacrificing customer service👏 Food was yummy😋, generous portions and great prices; staff was courteous and pleasant❣
Really liked their food and we ordered lots of different choices.
Love it! Food is Fantastic! Great Customer Service!
Looking for some authentic hawaiian grindz? Then this place has to be at the top of your list. Awesome food, really. It may look like a small place but trust me you will not be disappointed. Whether in the mood for some Hawaiian food, got some family or friends visiting the island and wanna show the a good time, or looking for a place to take the family out to eat, then this is the place, Highway Inn.
Very disappointed! Worse squid luau I’ve ever had, (they use to be sooo good) tiny hard pieces of squid, so junk. And they charge you 2.5% takeout fee and a 3% Kitchen fee. Along with the increase of prices. I Won’t be going back.
I love the dry pipikaula, the ahi poke, & the lomi salmon . . . Ive been going to Highway Inn for the past 10 - 15 years & I love to eat there.
Ordered curbside pickup. Love the food! Fresh and ono!!
Ono Hawaiian and Local food!Covid compliantA little bit different now; order and pay when enter, find a seat and they bring to you.Still the same great service with Ohana feel!
Awesome local food. I enjoyed everything on my plate from the fried butterfish collar to the bread pudding to even the passion fruit soda. It was one of those meals where youre full...but you cant stop eating because it tastes so darn good. Highly recommend.
Excellent food!! A must stop when in Hawaii.
Very clean and cheerful, friendly and helpful staff, excellent menu, very delicious food
Classic local Hawaiian food restaurant with fish market. If you are looking for some of the best Hawaiian food in an authentic setting, this is the place. You can go wrong with any of the Hawaiian plate combos or order ala cart your favorite dishes. All of this plus local favorites makes this a place for everyone. Its a little off the beaten path, but for tourists who make it out there, its worth the trip.
Great Hawaiian food! And their fish tacos were excellent.
Ono local food
If youre looking for authentic Hawaiian food. Youve come to the right place. Not only is the service fairly quick but the quality is second to none since Ive been on island. Do yourself a favor.
Always our family favorite for hawaiian food. Didnt disappoint
The food was great, and the amount was stop on.
Still the best Hawaiian Food
I didnt know this place closed so early, but it was alright we took our food home to save us the tip and drinks. The service was fast and it came at a good time. I guess Im not a hawaiian plate person, I tried hawaiian food at least 6 places and they all taste the same or under season. Its in a small an shopping area thats very run down. You will see homeless people moving along the area at night.Update. Came in for lau lau and it was tasty. the kalua pork was a bit oily
OMG!! Food was Ono as always! Its been awhile since I have eaten here. Last time I ate here was when Highway Inn was in a different Location in Waipahu. FYI: If you have a Hawaii Restaurant Card its Accepted here as well. Mahalo to the Staff as well for your awesome work!! 👍 Also, 😷 Mask up and keep yourself and everyone else Safe!!! Aloha
Great place for local Hawaiian eats! They have plates that comes with a side of your choice, their beef dish, rice, and a dessert. Great value and the food was tasty. However their location doesnt have a restroom. They have a hand washing station and thats it. They also sell poke and have a fish market inside the restaurant. If youre into plain poke aka just raw fish, they have that option here where most places do not.
Times have changed and so did the flavors. Its not the same. Our lomi ahi tasted old, the stew gravy was extra thick, naau didnt have much flavor rice was gummy. We let our waitress know, and told her we visited Highway inn as children when it was across Arakawas and when they moved across Kaiser Permanente and how delicious it used to be... she offered to make a new order, that was really kind, we declined and left half our meal back. Dont think were going there anytime soon. I just wish they stuck to the old school recipe.
This food is delicious! Enough said
Always Friendly, Fast & Ono! Mahalo Highway Inn!
I love the food here - total comfort food!!!!
Kalua pig wasnt so tasty. lau lau was dry. poi was watery. was missing a super kalua plate n bowl of tripe stew after waiting 15 mins when we was already eating. Is it a possibility of having at least half refund.
Weve eaten at a few good places in Oahu during our vacation, but this place by far has been the best. Weve eaten here twice during this stay. The food is ridiculously good, the staff is amazing, and the food is inexpensive! If you want quality local food, Highway Inn is the place to go. Definitely hitting this place up again whenever we go back to Oahu.
Very tasty food
Love the food here. When I gave the server my credit card, she asked for ID that I didnt have. She said restaurant policy is she cant take a cc without ID. Who does this?? (Answer: NO ONE) So embarrassed for them.
Support local awesome poke bowl lots of favorite Hawaiian dishes
Solid impossible burger loco moco and poke. Friendly staff!
Dont let the location fool you. Excellent food and service. Definitely recommend. Only wish they had a bathroom in the restaurant. Otherwise a great place for a meal!
Where do you go when you have visiting guests that want to experience traditional Hawaiian cuisine without the gimmicks of a commercial made-for-tourism luau? I selected the Highway Inn based on my previous experiences with their Kakaako location. We were not disappointed--in fact, we like this Leeward side location the best because of the abundance of free parking. (And quick access to H1).
Good service, good food.
Truly lived up to the reputation of being local Hawaiian food. The staff were amazing and welcomed us with open hearts. They guided us to eat what locals eat and it was phenomenal. Great place if you want to discover what Hawaiian food really is like.
Waited about 30 minutes and when my order got to me I had rice instead of poi, took my plate back to the kitchen and waited another 5 minutes. Service was so slow, it looked like they took more time with the take out orders first, shouldve taken care of in store customers first. Food tasted real bland no flavor
Always good at highway inn
Chicken long rice was good.... butterfish shoulder..poke
I always go here for there fried akule and beefstew little pricey but there food is good, its weird though sometimes I get a fried akule theres a couple big ones inside, sometimes the price raises and I get just 1 small akule I ask them why they tell me if its a big fish we give 1, if its a small fish we give two. Um ok, well the one fish i got was smaller then any of the two fish i got together and the two were cheaper then the 1fish. But what do I know im just a customer anyway they have great customer service and food is great.
