Custom Windows 10 PC for gaming, graphics editing, and general purpose computing. I discussed the requirements with Carl; who spoke with me courteously, to my level of tech understanding, and explained things simply and thoroughly when I asked. He recommended hardware options with associated prices and we agreed on a build. Reasonable schedule, acceptable pricing, standard warranty. Along the way he called with a status update regarding a critical component. Completed the build ahead of schedule. Spent an hour going over the hardware and software particulars, answering my questions in detail. Ive only purchased piece parts from CR previously. Given this experience I’ll return to them for future PCs builds.

I went in for pricing on a new laptop. The selection was not the best currently, but the inventory moves and changes a bit. The man working was very informative, and he had plenty of knowledge to give. He was not push with any of the products, nor was he rude as was stated earlier. The selection of used and rebuilt laptops was about equal to the new, but each one was well described with its features. He was very informative about possible upgrades, and recommended computers based on the tasks they would be used for. He didnt once try and push a multi-thousand dollar gaming platform, and showed me what I was I looking for. He answered all questions frankly and quickly, and did not have to refer to a manual or ask for help. I will definitely be giving them business, not just for a laptop, but any repair, part, or networking needs. Great shop, good staff. This is being written by a self-proclaimed non-techie who generally does not get along with technology very well, has to read manuals, and do the trial and error method for just about everything.

Pro - employees are extremely nice and know what they are talking about.Cons - Way overpriced. I purchased a blu ray writer that was at least $30 more than Best Buy or Amazon. I compared prices for other items (new and used) that they sell at the store and they are all higher priced than anywhere else. Save your money and make the drive to Anchorage or buy online.

Good service. And they often have what I am trying to find, but the prices are just terrible. In almost every case I would rather wait a couple days to get it from NewEgg. I understand we live in Alaska and that it costs money to ship here, but give me a break.

Ive been dealing with the Wasilla Computer Renaissance store for probably close to five years now and, while I cant give the shop in all good conscience a perfect rating for the reasons I elaborate upon a bit below, I commend the business for doing something that is becoming all too uncommon these days- operating the equivalent of the old small engine repair shop. Whatever type of equipment you have, you bring it in to them and the folks there will do their best to repair it for you or otherwise make it work. I have never felt iffy about dealing with the store and feel like its staff has always been reasonably knowledgeable and straightforward in dealing with me. Computer Renaissance also carries a reasonable stock of computer parts that you would otherwise have to travel almost 50 miles to go and purchase in Anchorage, if in fact they are even available there. With the demise of the RadioShack store out here in the Valley there is just nowhere else to go.I do mark the store down one star for its fairly aggressive overpricing of common computer components. While I certainly understand that there is no way for Computer Renaissance to match the prices youll find on Amazon or elsewhere by mail order, it does seem to me that their markup is a bit more then it should take to keep the store in business and operating comfortably. On the other hand, though, they are keeping a fairly large stock of items in inventory on the off chance that someone will come in and buy one of them on any given day. I guess the analogy would be that nobody who takes the time to plan a bit ahead does major grocery shopping at a 7-Eleven. When youve just got to have that bag of cool ranch chips right now, though... Well, thats another story. By contrast, I think that Computer Renaissance is very fair and completely up-front with what it charges for repair and other bench work. I have had work done there twice over the years on computers I own and have been satisfied each time that I paid a reasonable price and that the work was done in a completely competent manner. All in all we are fortunate to have this store doing business in the Valley and it is well worth putting a bit of patronage its way from time to time to help insure that it remains viable.

I had my computer to multiple places to get it fixed and bought countless software to fix it. I was told by others to buy a new computer. I took it to Computer Renaissance and they did a diagnostic, told me what was wrong, how much it would be, how long it would be for the parts and made recommendations on free software to change. Not only did they actually fix my computer, they were so patient and understanding to me, kept in touch so I knew what was going on, found parts that I know are impossible to get and did it ahead of schedule. Their prices are fair and I am so incredibly happy that I found them! Lots of so called computer repair places out there, but these guys are the real deal! Go see them!!

I brought my high-end PC in three days ago, because it wouldnt boot. They said I should hear back from them within three days. 11:30am this afternoon Carl called and said the (unique) problem was that the boot drive—a 320GB SSD—had died and he could fix it with a $180 replacement disk and no labor! I approved that. Two and a half hours later he called and said it was ready!Sure, maybe I could have had Amazon ship me a cheaper SSD, But that would take a week (since it seems I couldnt get Next Day shipping for that) but I needed it by Monday for start of UAA classes. I am very happy with the price and timeliness.I regard Computer Renaissance as the best computer repair business in Alaska. However, it is NOT the best source of inexpensive components. We just DO NOT HAVE a local source with a wide range of inexpensive components, that Im aware of. Sure, you might luck out and find the inexpensive component you want at Office Depot or Freddies. But for a wide range of inexpensive components, you have to go on-line, such as to Amazon; then you pay with time. Think of Computer Renaissances components as including a somewhat hefty Instant Shipping cost that is well worth the price if you need that component ASAP.Note: It may have helped that I also brought in an external drive with a complete system image backup, along with a sheet of paper documenting the symptoms, password, characteristics, my contact info, etc., but that is something everyone should do for every repair shop, anyway.

I am givin one star because although I am not an expert I know robbery when I see it. These people had a 750ti A 750 TI!!!!!! LISTED PRICE AS 189$ And a gtx 1050 as 249$ Not the 1050ti just the 1050 2 GB model. These guy are informative yes and they can build systems and do repairs, but thier stock is full of less mediocre parts( I mean I regrettably just bought a AF CPU cooler and I though hmm let me look this up on amazon and it was 21$ and I got it from them for 40$ I would have rather waited a couple days for amazon delivery than pay 20 extra dollars), and their name brandproducts are WAY WAY WAAAAAYover priced.DONT go there if youre looking for parts to build a pic just buy them from newegg or amazon because they will charge you upwards of 45-75 % more than you would have paid if u just bought from amazon or newegg.

This business is full of the dumbest people ive ever met, my mother took her laptop to their shop to get it straightened out cause it was acting funny, come to find out that when they repaired it they took one of the ram sticks out without her permission and we had to buy another one just to get it to work right again. i dont know much about how to run a business, but im pretty sure its not done by hiring morons that cant tell a computer from their backside, and stealing from customers who have no choice but to trust them. there are other places in wasilla to go to fix computers, you have been warned!

Regarding the review from John Epherson – typically we respect the views of our customers and appreciate their candid remarks however your hurtful remarks warrant a response.Hi John,Thank you for your candid remarks; most folks who have an issue with the service they receive from an organization would simply discuss the matter with the personnel in order to rectify the situation. Sometimes individuals rush to the internet to pass their judgement before all the facts have been identified. Most often customers who have chosen to express their negative frustrations over the web don’t realize they are diminishing their reputation just as they are attempting to hurt the reputation of others.I’m sorry to hear you have chosen to insult the employees of Computer Renaissance of Wasilla and to demean our organization. Typically when there is a situation that isn’t initially resolved to the customer’s expectations we would work hard to correct the issue with further discussion and attempt to complete the repairs as requested/needed.We would love to hear from your mother regarding the system she brought in for repair; as our records indicate there was no one by the last name of Epherson who has visited our location for service work. We keep a detailed record of every individual we conduct service work for. We recognize the importance of maintaining our customer’s privacy and to ensure we don’t break the trust of our customers we strive to ensure their system hasn’t been physically damaged during our repair process and that all computers that leave our organization are in better condition than when they arrived, pending customer’s repair approvals. Is it possible she checked in her system under another name you are unaware of? Is it possible her computer was taken to a different organization, not affiliated with Computer Renaissance of Wasilla? Often times we will bear the brunt of a customer’s frustrations over a failed system repair when they mistakenly think we are the repair shop instead of some other local business. It’s a bummer how much misinformation can affect the reputation of the individual issuing a complaint and can sully the reputation of a legitimate organization working hard to earn your business.I hope you can discuss this situation with your mother and confirm she received service work from Computer Renaissance of Wasilla and then give us the opportunity to perform our due diligence and confirm her service work to include the allegations you have listed in your comments. We have been voted “Best in the Valley”, and our technicians are CompTIA A+ certified. We surely didn’t get that reputation without listening to ours customers’ needs and working hard to address them.If she visited our location and we didn’t complete the service work to her satisfaction or to the specifications the industry recommends then we would be happy to own up to our mistake and work to a fair and equitable resolution.I would ask you, however, to show maturity in your future correspondence by eliminating personally insulting and derogatory remarks. If, after you have reviewed the facts again with your mother, it’s discovered she didn’t actually have the service work completed at Computer Renaissance of Wasilla; I would also ask you to consider your mistake of leaving a negative comment and instead issue a formal written apology on the google comments field. We would like to think people treat others the way they would like to be treated.Manager – Computer Renaissance of Wasilla

Absolutely ridiculous. You pay a premium for having it now. A 1000% premium in fact. These folks live off of a stupid tax or a desperate tax.
