This is my favorite restaurant / party place in Soho!! Hands down!! I’ve been a loyal customer of HNWC since they opened at the end of 2018 - beginning of 2019, and even went to their pop up in Tulum on November 2020, which was amazing! I’ve tried everything in their food, cocktails and wine list menu. Therefore, I recommend this restaurant 100%; specially their brunch on Saturdays, Wine Wednesdays, Latin Party on Saturday night with famous DJs such as Cruz (Latin Grammy winner) or PJ. If you like electronic/ house music then go on a Thursday or Friday night and you’ll find DJs such as: Nacho Isa, Gaspar Muniz or Fireware. You will always have a good time there! The staff is super friendly, polite and courteous. The bouncers are very selective, but once you’re in, you will love it and would want to go back again!
Her Name Was Carmen and Changed to DeltaIn New York there were 28,284 new cases and 150 deaths last week. Case rates are accelerating 37.2% each week and death rates are accelerating 48.9% each week over the past 21 days. Her Name Was Carmen, from 7pm to 10pm maintained over 2500ppm (outside was ~350ppm) of CO2 with between 45-55 people in a basement seating, without ventilation. None of the customers wore masks and even upon entering was told that it wasnt necessary. The only people in the restaurant who wore masks, partially, were the bartenders and the hosts. None of the other staff wore masks. This is amidst a Covid Delta variant that doesnt seem to care if people have been vaccinated or not. I was in a group of 7 but I didnt eat or drink, as I kept my mask on, so I cant comment on the food and the consensus is that it was good and mixed opinion on the drinks. The 2 tables that had nine people each near us seemed to enjoy their evening as well. The bar with a constant minimally 7 people seemed to be satisfied. In any event, it seems that the food here is adequate but rest assure to get a free side of Delta along with it.
I love this place. It is always crowded but it is worth it.Dance all night and get drunk.Don’t forget it always has big line in front of door.
I had a very special date here because the food was so different and good. We had the ham appetizer, yucca fries, and branzino. Everything was so hot and fresh. It was so different and memorable. The staff were also super nice and took great care of us. I just felt like I had had such a good night.
Very slow servicePasta was good but heavy
Terrible experience. After I paid with my credit card, they cloned it and started charging random things.
This is the fourth time Ive gone to Her Name Was Carmen and Ive never been charged a cover. Miguel, the bouncer at the door, was charging everyone (men and women) $20 to get in tonight, and he was pocketing the money himself. There was no cashier in sight at all.I was with a group of 7 women and he tried charging each of us $20 to get in...We were celebrating a bachelorette and we were ready to spend money at your establishment tonight. However, it was 1 AM and he told us that it was alright downstairs, and that they were closing at 3 AM. So to spend $20 at the door, in addition to drinks, for only a couple of hours and an alright crowd didnt seem worth it. He charged a group of 4 women in front of us, $20 each, and put the money in his pocket. And there was a group of five guys in line behind us; once they saw him charge the girls in front of us, they left. Your boy Miguel is turning away business for his own profit. Aside from that, this place is great when the bouncer isnt ripping you off.
Amazing food, great service and beautiful ambiance! Every dish and cocktail were magnificent
Terrible customer care, we went with friends last Saturday and there was a line outside, we asked a person with a black suit at the door if we should get in line and he said yes. Then after waiting a few minutes we asked how long in the wait and he answered “it’s at the doorman discretion”. When the doorman, who had a pink jacket and a hat appeared, people who skipped the line whispered to him and he let those in, this happened twice until we said we are waiting so how long we should expect and he with a REALLY RUDE TONE answered: IF YOU ARE HERE YOU NEED TO SPEND MONEY AT LEAST $100 per person and I can see if I let you in, “if you are expecting to come in you must do so, if not don’t waist my time”. That’s not the way to treat a customer, of course we were going to spend as much as we wanted to but that attitude is not correct.
I love that place, but i came last week and they charge us more than 200$ tips while it was 60$ tipsi called the restaurant after that and the guy at the door (Danny) i think was litteraly protecting his staff and ask me to contact their back office …he also charge people before to get inside in cash .worst place too bad cause i love to there but it’s finish nowstealing people …i wish you a permanent close for your place
Had so much fun with the prefixe wine Wednesday menu, wines, and flamenco. Very hip restaurant! Definitely a good place to bring visitors and friends
Not worth it for night scene huge rip off don’t come
$100 per person at the door, on a Friday night, 11pm with nobody in there. Crazy. The price is wrong. Huge ripoff, wont be coming back, this place will be closed by the end of the year if yuppies with expense accounts dont float it
Horrible service. Insanely high prices. Super small portions. Stay far away.
Awesome place great ambiance and food!
Worst service ever!!! . They guy with the PartyCity outfit (James) is very unprofessional.
Poooooor experience. The staff was so rube.
The atmosphere at this place is awesome, cocktails are a plus. Good energy, just wish there were more choices in the menu. Overall, great experience.
Her name was Carmen is a great new spot in soho for drinks, dinner and dancing! The Alaskan King Crab was delicious. The menu is currently Crudo but, rumor has it that the menu will change in the next few weeks. The music is great and the cocktails are even better. The crowd is eclectic and well dressed. Also, the service is great! Her name is Carmen is the best lounge in SoHo.
Downstairs is a blast! Pitchers and great Latin music
The host was very nasty and rude . He looked at me and my coworker up and down, spoke to us very rudely. This is extremely unnecessary specially that we are essential workers . If I can give a zero i would . Terrible customer service will never go back .
Everything was bland and flavorless including the drinks
Terrible service and we got charged more than we supposed to be without to be about the tips .don’t even go to that place there are tons of nice place just around and much better where at least people will not steal your money
Horrible food, it was the chef at the table and he was very rude.
I went to this place on Jan 3, 2020. Not a good experience. To begin with the bouncer stopped us from coming in asking if we were on the list, because there was a private party, but using his words Im willing to talk, translation, we paid 50 dollars to get in, however he did not charge a lot of other people, including people who were meeting us, not sure what was the screening he was using, I would hate to think it had to do with us being Hispanic. We paid because it was a friends birthday, and she really wanted to go there. The drinks were incredibly diluted, and the music was only electronic, and as per the website, they do not stick to a particular kind of music...so much for that. We stayed about 2 hours. Needless to say we will not be going back.
Favorite place in the City. The food is amazing(!!!!) and I love the club downstairs !! Celebrated my birthday there and all my guests and me had the best time ever!!! Highly recommended to everyone who enjoys delicious food and likes to dance the night away.
Keep a good eye on your cocktails ladies!!!
Make sure you know that they are only serving cold plates at this time. Drinks were great, ambiance was nice. Food is very tasty, but very overpriced for what they are. If this is what they are charging for small, cold dishes, it will be very interesting to see how they price hot food. A lot better options in NYC for food, but could see this as a place to go for a drink before heading out for dinner or for a post dinner night cap.
I went here for drinks and dinner the other night and had a perfect time. Its a fairly new spot, and I guess a lot of the early reviews were based on the opening as they seem to mention a limited menu which wasn’t the case now.The food was filling, inventive and delicious. The urchin pasta I had was perfectly cooked. The fish my friend had was seared like a beauty. There was special pork dish that I would eat again and again. The club downstairs seemed to be getting popular as I left and sadly I wasn’t quite up for a “Big Night Out”. There was a queue outside the door, but as I understand dinner guests bypass it so that would seem to be the way forward for any dance-centric diners. In sum, Carmen is a delectably fun and delicious place that has clearly sorted out any opening kinks from my delicious experience.
Nice bar. Terribly rude bouncers. I was quietly waiting for a table (I am a mathematician) and the bouncer told me to move and then shoved me into the people standing behind me and threatened to kill me when I didn’t get out of the way fast enough. I’ve never been treated like this before and will never go back again. Please hire better staff. No one deserves to be treated this way.
Had a great time at Carmen this weekend, as per usual. The staff is always inviting and welcoming, even in the face of an always busy night. The bartenders are smiling and friendly, and the doorman is always a constant professional. Great music and high energy make this place a go to spot!!!!!
Great experience- fun and friendly staff! Doorman were very welcoming! Will definitely be back again!
Wasnt bad. Gets busy and hard to get a drink. Good atmosphere and decent people. Overall a decent night
The food is exquisite and the downstairs lounge offers so many different evenings from latin to deep house and often live bands too.Love it!
Incredibly rude waiters and maitre d’. I legitimately don’t understand how these people are in the hospitality industry. The decor and ambiance are also just so bland. Food and drinks are just average in terms of taste and quality. Not worth it.
Food and drinks amazing! They have an every day special which is not on the menu so remember to ask about it! Downstairs vibe and party also increible.
The entrees were excellent and the appetizers were somehow even better. Really enjoyed our meal here!
Chef Omar creates an impeccable experience. The entire atmosphere was out of this world. Sea Urchin pasta is a must.
Was just there for a birthday party, about 20 or so people, as soon as the birthday guy left the owner started pushing me around and pretended we had not been there for the past 4 hours. Hard pass, worst service ever.
Do not go
I can only say, that I have know two of the owners thru family relations for some time now; actually, way before they started “Her Name Was Carmen” and I can say I was treated like scum by the bouncer, the owner and the marketing manager. If I was treated like this, what can someone who doesn’t know them can expect! And if I wanted to go to a place to “see and be seen” like they say, NYC has dozen of restaurants way better than this one...
Don’t go here. There are a billion restaurants to visit in nyc other than this. Don’t waste your time. I’d rather a $1 slice of pizza to be honest. All you’re gonna find here is raw salmon and pasta. When we complained about the the raw salmon, they were unapologetic and still charged us for the salmon! When we brought it up to the manager’s attention, he said, “that’s weird, I’ve been here for 3 months and have never had food returned”.Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! Save yourself the headache and money!
Loved the food and the space. Desserts are a must! We were a large group and service was fast and good. Dont forget to have a drink in the bar downstairs!
I ask you to carefully read my dismal experience with personnel and manamgement at Her Name Was Carmen on Saturday Feb 1st, 2020 and the days following that. My wife and I went for some post-dinner drinks at their downstairs dance floor. We got there at 10pm and there was no line outside. They made us wait outside for about 45 minutes uncovered from the rain and cold. The line started to grow and ppl were getting impatient. Other ppl who were “on the list” were able to skip the line and get in right away. This was just the beginning of an awful experience. The bouncer eventually let a few ppl in including us. My wife and I went straight downstairs and we both checked our coats with Natalia at around 10:45pm under the same coat check ticket/number. When we went to pick them up at around midnight, we gave Natalia the ticket. She was able to find my wifes black coat, but my dark grey Uniqlo long coat was nowhere to be found. We all searched inside the coat check unit for about 20 minutes and couldnt find it. There were people waiting to check/pick-up their coats who were getting impatient. Natalia gave up looking for my coat. My wife went upstairs to look for help and were very rudely dismissed by the owner and general manager of the establishment ANDRES DIAZ. He walked away from us several times when we were trying to call his attention. He was jumping up and down hugging some of his friends in the dining room and singing loudly. He seemed drunk and careless of our issue. It was just appalling to receive that kind of treatment from someone who should be displaying integrity and respect as a higher up (see other customer reviews on Yelp about him, this man is rude to customers frequently). Eventually, we got help from one of the servers from the upstairs dining room. He also went downstairs to the coat check room and tried locating the coat, but no luck. He took down our information and said he would contact us on Tuesday Feb 4th once the restaurant opened again (they are closed Sundays and Monday. I ended up having to go home to Brooklyn without a jacket/coat in 30-degree weather. The morning after (Sunday), I emailed them sharing my story exactly as described above, requesting that they looked for my coat again, while also asking for remedy for the awful experience. I received an email reply on Monday Feb 3rd, where they claimed they would look for my coat on Tuesday and get back to me. BUT THEY NEVER DID. I called on Tuesday 2/4 several times and emailed to no reply. Wednesday and Thursday I called again. Nothing. On Thursday I emailed again to no reply. On Tuesday Feb 11th I finally got a hold of someone on the phone. I spoke to the assistant manager, Derek, who was nice but told me they hadn’t found my coat (i finally got an answer after 10 days that my coat was officially lost). He also told me that ownder and general manager ANDRES DIAZ (the man who rudely dismissed us) was aware of my situation as he had shared my email(s) with him, and that it was up to him to offer a concession (yeah, good luck getting a reply and a nice gesture from that guy). He provided me with Mr DIAZ’ email address which I forwarded my messages to but received no reply to. All in all, I am left with no response/offer/apology from ANDRES DIAZ and without my coat.I urge you not to spend your hard earned money here. There are just just-as-good entertainment options in this beautiful city that are not owned by money-grabbing classists who don’t treat their customers with decency like ANDRES DIAZ.
The bartenders are so rude. Such a good place does not deserve such a bad team of workers
This place is as horrible and judgmental as all the other negative reviewers say it is! DO NOT GO THERE!!! First off, its not a members only club but they act like it is. Super snooty, pretentious, thinking only 6 ft models with D cups come in. Ive been to so many different types of establishments, posh or not, they didnt even treat us or the other people waiting like regular humans. Be clear about your guidelines, club, rules, or whatever the heck youre trying to be or stand for. The owner was beyond rude and not hospitable at all. Someone needs to spit on him and knock him out. Take your time and money elsewhere.
What a fantastic place. The food is light as some reviews state, but each bite is a morsel from heaven. The staff was extremely accommodating, very friendly and super nice. After dinner we went downstairs for some cocktails and ChrisO made everyone feel like a VIP.Thank you so much for an unforgettable evening and for the amazing dining experience. The Food, oh, fantastico!
Beautiful interior, good vibe. Recommend the duck and brussel sprouts.
The host and bouncer are nasty. Not surprised since I have heard the two owners are quite rude. As a Latino myself, it’s sad to not feel welcome at a Latin-owned establishment.
The food was amazing! Make sure you try the pork belly. Great service as well.
Terrible experience from beginning to the end.Rude bouncers and staff. Calling out specifically on Andy Diaz whos been notoriously obnoxious to customers in general. Halo of stinky attitude is swirling around his head as second nature....Why are you even in hospitality business when you cant stand customers?Menu offers 8 choices of strictly chilled seafood. Prices ranging from $65-$95. It could take a long while for food to serve, so you might want to kill the waiting time with $25 cocktails.Foods were bland in taste considering mostly defrosted from freezer and raw. Despite high profile chef, dishes were not impressive as advertised. The dancing lounge below the restaurant was slow with mostly empty booth and seats. Low light effect from the bar couldnt rescue the obvious fact that the music selection and DJ performance were subpar. All in all was a fail attempt with hefty price tag.
Mix thought about this place.1) Service was slow. Waited very long time for food. When asking, the server got upset.2) Portion size is very tiny. 8 tapas dishes were not enough for 4 people.3) Pricing is very expensive. Each tapas is priced as entree ($35 each).Cocktail $25. Pasta $55. Crab leg $45 each leg. Hamachi $65.4) Foods werent tasty for the premium price.5) Lounge downstairs was boring. Despite we tried to have fun and make the most of our time, music was bad.Wouldnt go back and wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.
Went to meet my girlfriend who was with her friends. it was a Saturday night and it seemed to be more of a nightclub/lounge than a restaurant. Not the sort of place I would normally go to and was told I could not get in. British host guy was terribly rude and told me to go outside despite the fact my gf came to find me (still couldnt get in), left me her handbag, and went to round up her friends so they could all leave.Furthermore as I was standing there the British guy took a photo of me without my permission then ran off before I could ask why. I cannot comprehend why as its not a place Id want to go back given the attitude I experienced. I intend to contact their management to have my photo deleted.
Nice bar and good drinks but $24 for a cocktail before tips for a place that doesn’t even look that fancy?
Great atmosphere.. Excellent food & cocktails.. Downstairs lounge with awesome music.. Everything Soho was missing can be found at Her Name Was Carmen
Bad service
We visited the club in Her Name Was Carmen. Cool spot with a really hip vibe. Typical loud club with expensive cocktails but great music and the bartenders make really great cocktails.
Probably one of my favorite spots in nyc. Actually, it’s definitely my favorite spot.
Superior atmosphere and crowd. Eventful lounge downstairs. Enjoyed the menu
We didn’t try the food, we just went to the bar downstairs. It was okay. Nothing special. There are much better places in the area.
Its a nice place to visit for dinner and drinks. They have good food
Wow, just wow. Amazing food & service--best restaurant in SoHo. The Arroz con Pato, which was the Chefs special, is a must! Nice atmosphere & great desserts. If youre around the area, this restaurant is definitely a place to go. Cheers!
My girlfriend and I went to the lounge downstairs on a Saturday night. To start, the cocktails were pretty bad; you’d think that for a place like this in Soho the owners would have made sure to hire a good mixologist. Then, music, decor and general ambiance was so mediocre and borderline boring. Finally, the service was bad; the staff has not been properly trained. It’s sad for us because we live close by and it would have been nice to have a new place we can go to regularly, but I doubt we will go back.
Drinks were good, and the place got really busy when the time was right. Great electro-Latin music scene.
We were treated poorly from the moment we walked in. The door guy aggressively would not let us through the door even though we were on time for our reservation. The server messed up our order. And when the owner came by, he did nothing to make any of this better. The food is portioned horribly and is of average quality for a $20 tapas you can find elsewhere.
Drinks were nice, ambience was ok (Not the best NY has to offer), but simplistic uninspiring cold plates for the price of sophisticated entrees was what killed it for me. There as $3 worth of food on my plate with minimal effort put into it for a price of $25. No thank you
Lovely spot. The downstairs is so much fun with the decor and music. 🌠👏🏻🌠
The staff and, what I presume was the owner, were incredibly rude. The owner consistently pushed us out of the way at the table we confirmed we had to get to the bar. The staff kicked us off a table after we dropped a good amount of money on it. By the end of the interaction, when we were leaving, a comment about our dissatisfaction was met harshly.
Cute vaporwave decor, great music, would like to come back for dinner and not the club experience.
Really cool place - Food was amazing and great service. We will defenetly go back and try there bar downstairs.
Great food, cocktails, ambiance, dancing and amazing staff! NYC needed a spot like Her Name Was Carmen for a long time and I am so happy it finally exists! Highly recommend it
Amazing vibe, food, and music! Will definitely go back and bring friends!!
Crowded and expensive but nice
Good but expensive drinks. A bit small so it gets crowded easily. DJ was good.
While we were waiting in the line for the bar, someone egged the line of people outside. A few of our group were hit and the bar manager didn’t handle it well (we just had to go home, he refused to even give us napkins). Very disappointing.
Great atmosphere! Terrific food and outstanding staff!
Music is amazing. Nacho is the best!
Great location. Chill vibe. Delicious plates.
Great drinks and great food! A perfect place for nightout!
God this place is awful! Never going back, and would not recommend to my enemy! Staff was rude, they brought out 4 undercooked entrees, and when we sent it back, they didnt offer to make another or bring us something else. Instead the interrogated us for sending them back. That in the managers 3 months of working there it has never happened. So absurd, and unapologetic. We all left hungry because for our late dinner, which we all arrived to starving, all we had was apps to share.
Looks like I’m not the only one who shares this experience, and as they say, establishment culture starts at the top. The problem with this place is that the owner gets drunk and thinks he’s entitled to act rude and aggressive towards his customers. You will not last long in the business muchachito. Tus socios deberían saber de tu comportamiento irresponsable y financieramente destructivo.
Such a bad experience! The host and waiters are so rude. The menu is so small and overpriced. The bar downstairs we went after dinner was so empty, not worth it.
I love this place I haven’t tried the food but I know for sure every thing they have is quality, the portions are small, but from what I heard really tasty they have high quality every thing and high demand, every one works extremely hard I have nothing but respect for my coworkers and boss I’m not saying it because I work here but yeah every one is dedicated to their job and loves what they do, cheers to Andy for being amazing his energy is a gift to us I appreciate him . The DJS are amazing all of them Ps The Carmencita cocktail is a must . Xoxo
Best experience in NY, food incredibly good and drinks were fab also the staff was very attentive, cant wait to go back.
Amazing food and cocktails. Great vibe
Mediocre, overpriced food at the restaurant. Menu only has like 8 options. The hamachi was bad quality imho. Bar downstairs was empty and music was boring.
Incredibly rude owner “Andy”. How can you be in the hospitality industry??
Never again! Poor experience. We were 1 hour in a line that never moved when there was a lot of people into the place because they knew the owner. The people coming out said the AC was not working properly downstairs and they were sweating like hell...
They have one of the best mezcal cocktails i’ve had in a while: Carmencita! Great food (tuna mojama, steak tartare, alaskan king crab favourites) and amazing ambiance. Plus downstairs gets wild after dinner!
Service food and ambiance - hulio is the man!
The folks at the door gave my friend and I the hardest time to get in. There was no line and they made us wait for an extended period, demanded that we get in contact with the person whose birthday we were there to celebrate, which was impossible because there was no service in the lounge downstairs. Once we got inside, the place was overcrowded and the music was mediocre. The lounge downstairs is basically just a bar (no dance floor). If that’s what you’re looking for, then this is the place for you.
Amazing food and a very stylish place
