Hello people, I need to share what an awesome experience I had this evening with Zak (ck?). So, its Friday at about ten to 5.... I need a string....I get there... totally forgot my wallet...Zak says, Do you need a string for the night?.... he clearly saw my addiction...and he just gave me one... Damn I love New England...and I also love that Frets is set within.....as this would not have happened in Chicago, where I recently came back from.Support Local!...He actually cares...Do yourself a favor.... unpretentious knowledgeable dude available to wanna bees like me....and you
Had my guitars inner pickup replaced a while back and I just had to come back and say what a great job he did with my guitar, true professionalism and care put into it
Excellent store. Friendly service low prices in the heart of beautiful Westerly.
Great service. Very very helpful.Took lots of time to help.
I’m only writing a review because service and skill like this does not come often in this world and it should be acknowledged. Zach is first and foremost a good dude, a friendly and knowledgeable guy who provides a great and responsive service, but most of all he’s an absolute master at setting up and fixing guitars. As a repeat customer I have had several great experiences there but...I walked into Frets yesterday and handed Zach a brand new guitar from Guitar Center (which was in perfect condition) that I just wasn’t totally happy with playability and sound wise for an upcoming gig. Before returning the guitar for another one, I decided to challenge Zach to essentially rebuild it to my preference to suit this specific gig and my picky taste (I typically play Martins). Literally 24 hours later he hands me the best playing acoustic I’ve ever held, much less owned. This was just an inexpensive $200 jamming acoustic. He had spent hours perfecting the saddle, bridge and neck again and again until he got it right. And boy did he get it right. He even applied the perfect string type for this unique sound and playability, even taking into account the surrounding environment of my gig to make sure the guitar would perform under the specific acoustics and moisture content of the area. All for no extra cost.As I said, this level of service, skill and craftsmanship shouldn’t go unnoticed.
I took my late Grandmothers 1938 Gibson L30 to this shop to she if he could restore it. It had pretty significant damage to the neck and had been left in the heat before I got it, so the glue was coming undone. While he was unable to help me fix it, he was still very excited to see the guitar and took about 30 minutes just talking to me about the history and manufacturing techniques. Didnt quite work out how I wished it would have, but he was very genuine and still took the time to engage with me. Very thankful. I will use my limited woodworking experience and his advice to simply try to prevent the condition from worsening. Will still be a nice keepsake.
Zack is very helpful and knowledgable and a good player too!
Highly recommended for Zachs knowledge of the instrument and what it needs to sing. A nicely curated selection of new and vintage guitars as well!
Great guitar shop. Staff is very talented, and luthier is top notch.
I built a Fretless bass and brought it to Frets to finish it up, intonation and strings, etc. Zach did an AWESOME job! This thing really sings. I have since brought my other 2 basses including a 78 Guild B 302 and he tuned them up to perfection! I will certainly be back.....maybe just to visit with coffee...Thanks!!!
Sadly was not open even though website said they were open
Walked in with my husband and we looked around for probably 15 minutes and the two guys behind how counter never acknowledged us. It was ridiculous because they weren’t even busy! The store set up was pretty cool with a very vintage vibe.
Zack the owner of Frets is by far the expert on guitars, his knowledge and expertise are the best.He has personally saved me when I had a needed my guitar fixed on gig day.The first time I was playing a Guy Fawkes show at the Andrea. The stage was set up in the parking lot at the beach. My guitar blew right off the stand with the wind. The nut on my guitar broke, Zack had the part in stock for a 68 Yamaha and had it fixed in no time and the show went in.The second time I was playing a gig and some parts fell off my bridge again he had the parts in stock and the repair done immediately. He carries a full supply of strings, picks and cords.Check out his used equipment there are some real great amps and guitars that are available no where else .Id give him 10 stars if they had that category. We are so lucky to have this store .
Zach is a great guy and very knowledgeable of guitars and equipment from all walks
Quick easy and very helpful. I would give them 10 stars if I could.
