Finally got to spend some time here. The staff was super helpful and had a great knowledge of the basses they had in stock. They were very patient with me, answered my questions, and offered suggestions for things to try. Highly recommended!
Highly recommend South Shore!Knowledge and service was was top notch. Peter really went the extra distance to ensure a smooth transaction from start to finish with delivery to my doorstep here in Canada.Very appreciative!
I am a beginning guitar player. The employees of South Shore Music were so patient when my lack of knowledge required several explanations. They were patient and clear. I also had the opportunity to seeexperienced guitar playing customers handled with the same attentiveness to detail. It was obvious thatthe entire spectrum of guitar players-from beginners to expert-would find going to South Shore Music not only informative and helpful but an all-around really pleasant experience.
I would give 6 stars if I could. They set up my G&L bass, and it is the best setup Ive had on any of my basses, ever. The action is low, with no fret buzz unless I really dig in. The intonation is perfect. The people at the shop are friendly and really knowledgeable. It was a 40-minute drive for me to get to the shop, but Im glad I made the trip.
Great service! The owner and staff are outstanding. I highly recommend this music store.
Everyone at this shop is fantastic. I bought my first guitar used off the internet and I took it in for them to look it over and they provided great services. They gave me excellent recommendations for gear that is appropriate for a new player such as myself. I have since been back for new strings and I am always impressed by the product selection and helpfulness of the staff. Im happy to be supporting this great local small business.
I dealt with these guys with a set up on a guitar that was tricky to get right, they did a great job and really know what theyre doing. It cost less than Id guessed as well. Ill definitely be back if need any more more work done.
Great selection of amazing guitars here. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I dont have a car but Ive never been disappointed every time Ive taken the short train trip here. Happy owner of two new guitars thanks to the fine folks here. Will return for any future guitar needs.
This fantastic store has all the instruments you need for whatever is your taste. I visit every time I am in the area.
Fantastic locally owned music store with a wide selection of high quality instruments and friendly service.
Dont typically bother to write reviews but considering I had a great experience here, I can certainly spare a moment. The owner and staff were very helpful and clearly passionate about what they do. They answered lots of questions, some probably dumb, and even demoed a few guitars because Im a terrible player. Long story short, good guys and Im in love with my new Les Paul. Check them out instead of the big guitar stores run by clueless teenagers.
Best music store around! People are SUPER helpful, good selection of guitars, amps, basses and full drum section. Onwer and staff are very talented and great! Go there, you will be happy you did, stay away from the big box store!
I went there and it was such a cool vibe
Very friendly, people. They helped us get our son started with drums without pushing expensive drum sets like other bigger chains we visited. When our son is ready to move to a full drum set well come back because they gained our trust. They are very knowledgeable and have been patient with the fact of having 3 young boys running around their shop :)
Possibly the best selection of bass guitars in New England!Several months back, I had emailed Pete about a particular bass in his store and he responded very quickly. I ended up driving about 2 hours to test it out the following week and when I arrived at the store Pete and his entire staff were extremely accommodating. I ended up not getting it that day, but behind my back my wife had purchased it for me as a gift. She had also stated that it was an excellent buying experience. Great store, great staff!
Gear you wont find anywhere else and really friendly people working there.
Just went in with a random speaker cab problem... the guys were super helpful and fixed it on the spot.... big fan
Been coming here since I started playing ~15 years ago. Always great customer service and excellent guitar/amp technicians here. Last fall I got a guitar with a Floyd Rose (hadnt played on one in years) they got it set up perfectly for me before I was ready to tinker with it myself.
They have everything! If you dont see it, ask. Peter on the left and Andy in the drum shop have been extremely helpful over the years. They offer all of the top brands with starter instruments all the way to the professional and working knowledge of the whole lot. They are also more likely to have the small things like sticks, picks, heads, strings, and parts in the brand and model you came in looking for in stock than the big guy down the street.
Truly the best music instrument store in New England. High end pieces for reasonable prices, excellent atmosphere and great service. Forget the big guys, this is the top spot by far!
A super-professional independent music store and *the ONLY* place I’ll ever go around here to have a guitar set up. These guys saved my Strat. I bought it from Sweetwater and was very disappointed with the factory setup. Extra-light strings, no tone, no sound and very difficult to play (I play with a lot of pick-hand attack.) Was ready to trade it in but decided to try heavier strings first. Took it in to have Peter set it up for .11s and it made all the difference. He also found and corrected several other problems with the factory setup. Great service and a great value.
I recently ordered a Marshall JVM410H and 1960a cab. The shop was clean and well laid out. The service was excellent. Better than Ive recieve in most places. I would highly recommend and will be going back for more gear in the future.
Believe 3rd generation family owned. Trustworthy and reliable. Have been doing business for 10+ years. Highly recommended!
Nice selection of top-tier guitars, basses, amps, drums and all the necessary accessories. Friendly personnel who are great at finding you what you need.
Staff are very knowledgeable and have a good relationship with their suppliers. A customer could come in at any stage of musical education and find advice, practice spaces, and gear. A staff member, could tell me the origin of each and every instrument and was very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were very low in comparison with the retail asking price, which is another clear indication that they share a good relationship between distributer and supplier. He was more than happy to alow me to handle the more boutique and expensive instruments. At the end of my visit, after much conversation, he said that if I were to return after coming to the area again in the future to persue respective education at a college, he would be happy give me financial relief on gear.
Had my second guitar lesson with John McCarthy. Waited 15 minutes after the lesson was supposed to start before saying something to them. They went and got him and he came out and spoke to me. To sum up the conversation, he said he assumed I wasn’t there because it’d been a month since my last lesson, and that he had someone in 15 minutes so he couldn’t push his other appointments back. I told him I was here at the scheduled time but he tried to blame me for his own actions of not coming out to get me! I was appalled by his attitude and said “I’m just going to ask for my money back” and he said “well you’re not gonna get it”. I went to the counter and they refunded me for 3 lessons (I pre-paid for 4). The employees at the counter could see and hear the conversation. One of them kept his back facing me while he leaned against the counter as I started talking to them. The other employee had an attitude when giving me my money back. Also, John wasn’t even there for my first (and only) lesson and I had to come back later that day! The unprofessionalism I’ve experienced here is absolutely unreal. I’ve heard negative things but saw good reviews online, so gave them a chance. What a mistake, but lesson learned! I would never recommend this place.
I have been a buyer of higher end guitar equipment from South Shore Music for many years. Peter, Colin and Ryan are THE MOST knowledgable, transparent, and kind team in any shop ive ever done business with. Besides the incredible inventory, the experience in the shop always leaves me smarter about gear than when I entered. I would not recommend shopping anywhere else, as it is a no pressure environment. The guitars sell themselfs, as Peter and the team hand pick only the finest from the guitar makers-even selling local luthiers fine work. Buying a guitar online is like buying a puppy online-you dont know what you are getting until it arrives and your stuck with it. Shop here, ask away, and let a local family owned business work there magic.
