The Chickahominy house does some things really well, and other things, meh. The fruit salad for example was a slice of canned pineapple and a slice of canned peach. It had a drizzle of something mayonaissey on it and a pinch of cheddar cheese. Really? Why not offer fresh fruit or whatever is in season? We came at lunch hour and expected busy staff but after we were the only ones in the dining section we were in, we expected to see a waitress but after fifteen minutes of having empty glasses after consuming COUNTRY HAM, we had to flag someone down. Neither did anybody check with us after our food arrived. Neither did anyone bring us our ordered dessert. We had to request it. The coconut pie was not very sweet and the crust was doughy. That being said, this restaurant really knows how to do Brunswick stew, biscuits, and country ham (which is impossible to mess up). Its a fun destination, but there is room for improvement.

Great place, great staff, great food... Go there! What a great place. You may have to wait to get seated, but theres plenty of stuff to look at and buy(at very reasonable prices), that you wont care. The food was great. I had the meal (cant remember the name) that had; a really good fruit salad, a cup of the best Brunswick stew Ive ever had, and a VA ham sandwich on flat bread (think big ham biscuit). Then to top it all off a generous piece of pie. My wife, daughter, and I couldnt decide so we each got a different flavor (buttermilk that had a hint of lemon, coconut, and blueberry crumble) if I had to choose Id pick the buttermilk, but they were all really good.We will be back...

A unique experience for old southern Virginia food. The Miss Melinda Special is the classic dish. Comes with iced tea, an interesting fruit salad of half peach, a pineapple slice, cheese, and mayo, Brunswick stew, ham and biscuit sandwich, and a pie slice. The stew and sandwich was very tasty. I had the buttermilk pie. Pretty good. Could have used a slight dusting of powder sugar.

If you like down home southern food with specials that never change and enough charm to go around then this place is for you. With breakfast they even have mimosas and bloody Marys. Menu is simple, so choices com easy. Also, not pictured is the fruit salad. This is a traditional southern fruit salad meaning - half a canned peach, a ring of canned pineapple, shredded cheese, and a dollop of mayonnaise. If that sounds familiar then we are practically kin!The blackberry crumble pie is to die for. Made fresh daily.

Excellent menu for Breakfast and Lunch seatings. The best ham biscuits in the world. Great desserts for lunch. This historical restaurant has awesome food, a great staff and wonderful antique shop. We took the ferry over from Surry and enjoyed breakfast here. Be warned, this is a popular place. I never eat biscuits no matter where I go. This I ate the biscuits. They are not round and huge, which makes then doughey? Rather they are square and taste heavenly. I ate two and wanted more to take back to Virginia Beach with me. The only thing I did not like was the sausage. Not sure if it was local or not. But I think this was just a personal taste not a reflection of the restaurant itself. We also liked that the menu is pretty set and small. You wont be sitting there starring at the menu for 30 minutes trying to decide -yet they put together a rather a comprehensive breakfast menu. The dining area puts you in the mind of someones home which seems to be quite popular in the Williamsburg area.

We just had lunch here on Tuesday. My wifes parents have been coming here for many years so we thought this would be a good choice. Boy were we ever wrong..the place is even more run down. The tablesand chairs are rickety and about to collapse. While the service was acceptable. The food, Miss Melindas special was awfully. Southern fruit salad, brunswick stew, country ham biscuits and conunut pie. Sounds great.. but in reality it was the worst food I have had in a long time. The fruit salad was a small peach half with old ring of pinnaple with a cheese sauce. Campbells alphabet soup. Hard biscuit and fatty, salty ham. The conunut pie crust was the best part of our meal.I would not recommend this place. Save your money. Sorry, we really wanted to like this place.
