I should start by saying Im not a professional electrician. I worked for an electrician for a summer and I know enough to do my own basic wiring but dont know all the codes, etc. Im also smart enough to know that Home Depot gouges on electrical stuff (especially wire!) and you should always go to an electrical supply place for this kind of stuff--you will get a much better deal and you will have the advantage of a bunch of smart people that can help guide you to buying the right stuff the first time. I cant say enough about these guys. The first time I visited, I expected to be intimidated and maybe even treated poorly because Im not an electrician, but it was quite the opposite. The staff took extra good care of me and they were super helpful. So I suggest you skip Home Depot and go right over to Concord Electric. They are fantastic. Oh and I just did a 100 A sub panel out in my detached garage--the wire from Concord was almost $100 cheaper than Home Depot too.
