I would recommend if you want fast a quality work done on your vehicle. I was eleven hours away from home. I was Having water pump issues with my Truck. I was due to leave in the next 3 days. My wife and I moved here almost three years ago for a job promotion. I had to find a place that would service my company vehicle and found Douglas Automotive in Barrington does. Ever since going there for my work vehicle, my wife and I needed some work done on our family car. We have had a lot of bad experiences with shops in the past (out of State) - think you trust them and then realize we only had the wool pulled over our eyes even with good recommendations from friends. This is NOT the case with Douglas. Chuck and the rest of the team in Barrington do a great job and tell you up front what’s suggested and what needs attention ASAP. We appreciate the work they all do there and highly recommend them.

I have been working with Douglas Automotive now for about five or six years. I have a 2001 Volvo S60 and a 2002 Trans Am, and both have had work done at Douglas. The Volvo is at about 225,000 miles, and I just visited Douglas again in an attempt to keep it running. It had a broken oil line to the Turbo, and it was spewing oil everywhere. I also had some additional work done, since the car was there. They identified that the rear brakes were frozen and inoperable.I really like working with Douglas, and I prefer to take my cars there rather than somewhere closer. They are one hour away from me. Because of the bad oil leak, I initially took my car to a Dealership in my town, as I didnt think I could make it to Douglas. As it turns out, the Dealership made excuses why they couldnt repair the car and told me that I would need to buy a new car. I called Carl at Douglas, and he encouraged me to have the car towed over there, which I did. They have a European car specialist there, and he is very, very good at what he does. Suffice it to say, the car has been repaired and is running just fine. Im very grateful to Douglas for allowing me to keep my Volvo for a while longer!I also want to give a shout out to the staff, in general. I am always treated with respect, and they are happy to explain things and answer all of my (many) questions. Also, they make arrangements for me, so that I dont have to. In this case they made arrangements with the towing company to come get the car and also with Enterprise, so a car would be waiting for me to drive home after dropping off the Volvo. This is a shop that truly knows the meaning of Customer Service! I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs an outstanding mechanic or is trying to keep an older (beloved) car running.

No masks in sight. Two employees and a customer all maskless indoors in the reception area. I was not going to let someone without a mask get inside my car. If you care about public health, take your car elsewhere.

I recently took my car to Douglas automotive for an oil change. I have a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 and for a B2 service I went to them because I was trying to find an alternative to the dealership. They did a good job and the price was reasonable they stayed in touch over the ensuing months and when my A7 service came due which is essentially an oil change I scheduled to have that performed there.I dropped the car off for the service and stayed and when they were finished I was informed that my check engine light was on.The check engine light was not on when I gave them the car but according to the technician the check engine light was on when he received the vehicle. I was extremely disappointed because Ive encountered this kind of situation with dealerships in the past I am very active with automobiles I actually have four my most recent project is a 2012 Subaru STI which currently has a stage 2 tune and I use a private shop for my maintenance.I mentioned my concern to the reception desk and they did not bother to check the error code although they claim that they had reset the service clock for my next schedule maintenance. Im extremely disappointed in that is very difficult to find a trustworthy mechanic or service location and integrity is at an all-time low. .They asked, that I return the vehicle to them they would run the codes and establish what the problem is which may take approximately an hour I do happen to know that it does not take that long to establish an error code and I am very disappointed in that now Im obligated to find another trustworthy shop to service my vehicle.

Douglas replaced the brake system on a 1968 Volvo for me. The did a phenomenal job making the car safe and driveable after years of neglect. After that I brought in my everyday vehicle for routine repairs and service. I found them to be significantly more cost effective than the dealer’s service department.

I have been a Douglas Automotive client for more than 20 years & have always appreciated the great service. Appointments are completed on time and repairs are accurate (I’ve never had to return for warranty work). They keep great records of each auto and carefully monitor the wear & tear - always helpful so repairs are not done unnecessarily or done so late that they are even more expensive! The front desk crew in Barrington is great - always cheerful and helpful.

Prices are reasonable / comparable to other service providers in the area. Staff is friendly, competent, and follows up with the customers, to ensure that they are satisfied. Would recommend to my friends.

I’ve been taking my car to Douglas Automotive in Barrington for several years now and had an especially good experience in December 2020. I don’t drive my car often so service appts. are infrequent, but I brought my car in for general maintenance and a pre-winter check. I was very pleased with the ability to receive text message updates, as well as a detailed cost breakdown of the work they recommended be done via text.The work was completed on time and, best of all, they were entirely honest in that the scope of work, upon closer inspection, wasn’t as involved and they would be charging me $257 *less* than the quoted amount. See attached image.It’s easy to write a positive review considering the savings I benefitted from, but it is *also* so easy for automotive shops to overcharge people who don’t know much about cars and the frequency at which certain repairs should be done. I will keep going back to Douglas because of how ethically they seem to run their business. I communicated with Chuck and will happily do so again the next time my car needs service.

The barrington location got me the same day to look at my air conditioning. They found the problem quickly and got needed parts the same day. They communicated to me the issues in an easy and detailed manner. Chuck the service Mgr was very helpful and great to work with. I was very happy with their work and completion time.

So far Douglas Automotive has been great. I had a couple of complicated problems the dealer couldnt fix which Douglas was able to fix. I certainly appreciated that. Plus, the staff is great. Very courteous and attentive.

I took my car to Douglas for a loose window by recommendation of a friend. The service staff were so friendly and professional, and kept me posted all throughout the process on any suggestions for needed service and the progress of the repairs. Definitely would recommend!

They did good job on the servicing of my vehicle last time around with timely text updates and pictures. I was impressed. But looks like that was to impress the new customer. This time around even though I mentioned about doing entire inspection and specifically to check air pressure I got the car back with air pressure low the way it was prior to servicing. I checked the air pressure and it was indeed low and inconsistent across all 4 tires. Now I am doubting if they really did all other inspection. The recommended oil in car was supposed to be synthetic but they put regular oil. When I asked the answer was regular oil works too. Well as per manufacturer car needs synthetic so why put regular oil without informing customer. I dont know but I kind of lost trust now. Not going back again.

Great experience. New to Douglas; but they are right in town. Prompt service; on schedule, comfortable waiting room. One of the very rare occasions getting oil changed where they didn’t try and sell me 10 other service items. 5 stars because it was what I needed and expected.

I had a brake line that rusted through. They were able to fix it and I needed at least one winsheild wiper. They were able to replace both. Also the 2 back tires that continually leaked which they fixed both rims. I really appreciated all that they did. I will be back.
