Market Basket beats them any day on price for the same level of quality. Also I know its 8:30AM but the one checkout line is killing me.

Writing this review specifically to s/o the gentleman named David who works in seafood. My man David walked around almost the whole store helping me find a specific kind of horseradish, also served me up the oysters I asked for. Excellent customer service, great attitude...give the man a raise.

This place consistently has bad produce. Your much better of going to Whole Foods down the street for significantly better produce thats often cheaper.

Occasional good produce and specials. Bought the drumsticks from them to make this faux-fried chicken and quiche.

Good selection, but in my experience there is a much higher chance of moldy produce etc than most other places I have been. There is a big bottleneck at checkout to an extent I dont find at other markets.

Well stocked store with super convenient access and late night hours. The only downside is that they are comparatively pricey for the area. I would roughly estimate around 25% more expensive than other stores.

Very busy and small store. Self Checkout moves quickly. I have to say the prices on most of my items are higher than Whole Foods. Its a grocery store, nothing special about it.

The people who work here are kind, dedicated, and knowledgeable. Also, their O organic line is high quality and well-priced. It has taken a little time, but the stock is now better organized from when I first began shopping there. Visit early in the morning to beat the crowds.

They didnt have most of the products I needed to shop. Empty shelves.

I was very amazed by the Customer service today. The manager was the reason (he was a middle aged Caucasian male)...he and team organized lines and he bagged all my things and then he took one of my carriage to my car since I had two. May god keep these hard working ppl safe...May god keep all of us safe. Thank you to the manager who helped me today.

Five stars for convenience and selection, 1 star for lines. Prices not great either.The prices here are higher than other stores in the area. Think $8 for a pizza that costs $5.50 elsewhere. But given the convenience, that’s fine - I shop here for quick pickups and elsewhere for bigger trips.The lines. OH GOD the lines. I’ve never been to grocery store with worse lines. There are never more than 4 or 5 registers open and each will have ten or more people waiting consistently. I come here at 10pm and the wait is still fifteen minutes or more! There are no self checkout lanes, which would be great because typically they go faster. Advice to management - please reduce your customers waiting times.

Noticeably pricier than the ol Big Y I used to shop at. A few things are cheap like the yogurt, otherwise its better to look for a cheaper place.

Downloaded the app for a coupon that didnt go through. Lady at the register was so u helpful and clearly did not care. When I tried to ask for help she seemed irritated and wouldnt look me in the eye.Thanks Beverly, for absolutely no help.

Bought more instant lunch and snacks back to Randolph. Staff was very helpful. Adjacent to Michaels of Cambridge. Easy to find a public restroom by the meat section.

My sister and I bought mozzarella sticks here and they came out soggy and they tasted like chicken and fish and were most likely cross contaminated.

This is larger and better than the Star Market down the street, and I go here because it is closest to my house. Pretty average grocery store. My big complaint is that they dont stock Tillamook brand ice cream! Stop & Shop does, and as a result I have to drive across town to get some.

Very typical of Shaws and Star Market in general. Convenient for being right in Porter Square, but otherwise its cheaper to head down Somerville Ave to Market Basket for lower prices and better selection. Good parking usually, conveniently close to Tags Hardware and Porter Square Wines. Henry Bears Park is a bonus :)

A mid-priced mid-sized grocery store with all the typical items. Youll be able to find everything here, but probably will pay slightly more than at other grocers. The store is well-organized and clean. Overall, its not a bad place to shop, and the employees are generally friendly and helpful.

The market is especially good for semi cooked or raw food. It has wide choice of meats and fish. Though in prime location the market has expanse making it comfortable to shop. If you are looking for cheap alternative check Market Basket. I recommend Star Market .

A great local grocery store

It’s tough to rate a place that is open 24 hours less than 5 stars since the convenience is so great ESPECIALLY in the Boston area where nothing seems to be open past 9, but like.... no matter what time of day I go there seems to be empty shelves and long lines with no one working the registers. It’s also far more expensive than the nearby Market Basket!!

Young people were walking around during the senior time, which made me very uncomfortable. Also someone was stacking the egg shelf with his mask under his chin. Will not be shopping here again.

The star market at porter square is a nice store to shop. They need more security I have seens thiefs rob this place like everytime I go there.

Porter Star Market is a very clean store! It doesnt have any weird particular smell around the meat department that some older stores have which is a good sign. The staff is also very friendly and packs bags like champions. Theyre all very good employees that I can see and that always leads to a better shopping experience for me. The selection of products is great though the placement of some items is a little confusing (like bakery bread isnt in the bread aisle, Franks Red Hot sauce isnt right next to Franks sweet chili sauce) but its easy enough to figure things out once youve been in the store two or three times.

Its a supermarket. Its big and clean and has high prices to rival Whole Foods. They sometimes have decent produce, and occasionally have some sale items. Just not my favorite place to shop.

I’ve never been to a grocery store with cashiers this rude. Im always very kind to them, but this is never reciprocated. They mumble, no eye contact and never greet you or tell you to have a nice day. They really need some training.

The place is typically clean and well-stocked, it is walkable and T-able for locals, and there is plenty of on-site parking although it can be hard to get a spot sometimes.However, the prices here make this a store I avoid. A small selection of their goods are more expensive than Whole Foods. The last time I went in there to look for a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, I got sticker shock—almost as bad as the prices in New York City.

They are way too overpriced. They dont have much else beyond food items. Positives: probably still the best grocery store in the Porter square -Central square area, convenient location with lots of parking available, open 24/7.

Over the last few years Star in Porter has become an outstanding market with great variety and best prices and price range. Can be very busy which means it is thriving. Great!

This place is otherwise a great grocery store, but is INSANELY under-staffed. There are typically 10-15 people in line at every single open register (while several registers are invariably closed - because management doesnt want to pay more cashiers, I guess). Several times now Ive gotten up to the front with my purchases, and left instead - because it was literally faster to get in my car, drive to another grocery store, gather up all my groceries, and buy them there; than to wait in those insane lines. From now on, Im going to save myself even more time by not going here in the first place!

Within walking distance of the T. Prices are not the best, but you can get some good deals when they run sales. They have a fairly decent salad and hot bar too. As others have noted, the checkout lines can be horrendous, but employees are usually polite.

Very well-stocked, clean, and open 24 hours. Business is booming at this place, though, so lines can get a little long sometimes. I wont deduct points for that, though, its hard to get angry at them for being a successful store.

This was my first visit to this location, so I had some confusion about the entrances and carts. It was a late visit, sometime after 9:30 pm, so there was a lot of restocking and such going on (or maybe its always like that, I dont know). Checkout line was long until they opened another regular register. The checkout clerk was very nice.Overall decent, but confusing on first visit coming from the T.

Nice market to go

This star market is convenient and useful. Has respectful staff and is usually clean. We enjoy their fried chicken.

You can find pretty much everything here (not only food) and generally it has a vast choice of brands. Decent prices, cheaper than whole foods, more expensive than traders joe. Deli is better thwn either two. There is typically some waiting time at cashiers.

Of course, this is a good spot for groceries!

This grocery store has a lot going for it - location is great on the T at Porter Square, it has a lot of natural and ethnic food options and teas.However, its almost always an absurdly long wait to check out. If you go any time between 4-7pm especially, plan for a 20-30 minute wait in line. Im not sure why this is always the case, but lines snake down the aisles and it gets really difficult to have the patience to go here sometimes for me.Ive given up and gone to the CVS across the parking lot for basics like eggs and milk before due to the wait.

Go to grocery store in somerville/cambridge. Ryan and Tricia in the deli were more than helpful today, that’s what keeps me coming back!

Good place to go food shopping

The convenience of 24 hour shopping here usually becomes an inconvenience. If shopping in the off hours, expect piles of stock everywhere blocking the items you hoped to shop for, and one register open to service a very steady stream of shoppers. There is absolutely no support offered the register by the restock staff and I have rarely over the years seen any manager step in to assist overwhelmed cashiers that are often abused by the customers (shame on the customers that do that). I persist in stopping by because it is the only option after midnight on my way home from work. I suggest you keep it to the small stuff.

Big place. Lots of stuff. Deli counter for sliced meats and cheeses. Fresh bread and muffins and pastries.

Love long lines, inattentive front end staff? Star Market has those things and more! The store is well stocked and open 24 hours but they seriously never have enough lanes open to deal with the crowd.Lines go back nearly to the end of the aisles, dont expect a quick in and out.

Great place to do your everyday grocery shopping. Has organic and high quality products, and generic, low-priced products. However, it is almost always very crowded and there are no self checkout lines.The free wifi is behind a captive portal that doesnt always work.

Very convenient location with easy parking and easy to navigate aisles. Clerks are friendly and produce is great.

The fruit and produce are always fresh and reasonably priced as are the meat and poultry!

Convenient location and easy parking, but overpriced and unprofessional staff. Management is out of touch. How many times for how many years do I need to communicate the need for wiping down the dust off of the Monadnock water cooler bottles next to the front door? The cashiers and I always get filthy trying to get those things into a cart. Come on. Well-intended staff in the floral section, but poor selection. The sushi selection is bad.
