I know that this Jewel-Osco gets a lot of stick, but that seems unfair. The only time I had a negative experience was when they rearranged their aisles. I felt like I had Alzheimers as I wandered around getting re-oriented. That said, its good to walk into a produce section that features its organic selection first. The produce is almost always in great shape (bananas are notoriously hard to keep green) and are re-stocked quickly. The deli was a good selection of cuts, and theyre happy to give you a sample or two to get the cut right. Everything else is as it should be - its produce section may not rival Valli, but its better than TJ, and its frozen section is much larger than Vallis.
Clean, stocked, and friendly staff. FYI, Jewel Osco stores hires individuals with intellectual disabilities to support inclusion and increased independence of this group. One main reason I like this store.
The fired chicken are cheap and tasty. Most of the people are friendly.Hope they can deal with the homeless at their entrance.
Went to get my I pass for my car. It was easy. I bought some delicious croissants though....yummy buttery
The manager is awesome! He is always curious.. helpful..he is an African American man..I always forget names..
Why youd allow people to solicit in front of the No Soliciting sign Ill never understand.
Love this store you can find things much better than other jewels cashiers are friendly staff is helpful the only thing is wear a sweater because its so cold in there other than that its great 👍
On August 29th, at approximately 7:20 am, I went into this store to look for some Chicken Livers. No other grocery store had them, and Ive been searching for over a week. I made a b-line straight towards the Meat Department. I saw a heavy-set Hispanic guy about 5ft 11 or 6ft tall working there. He was stocking the cooler display. I walked up to him and asked if they carried Chicken Livers. He never looked up but could be heard muttering something. I couldnt make out what he said, so I asked him again. At that point he stopped what he was doing, looked up at me and yelled in an angry tone while pointing, ITS IN THE FREEZER DOWN THAT ISLE TO YOUR LEFT!! I went to the location area, and after about 10 seconds I found them. GREAT! What wasnt so great was the attitude of that Jewel Osco Worker. Im not sure what was going on with him. We all have bad days, but whatever was making his day bad, he should have left it at home, or put it out of his mind. When your job brings you into contact with the general public, you must put on a different hat, and you may have to do a little bit of acting if you are not in a good mood. I hope someone from the Management Department read this review and remind him of these things.
Thanks Jewel for being open late and saving the day.To the two young ladies working at service desk tonight - probably not a good idea to follow up the closing announcement with disrespectfully, gtfo out of our storeI didnt take offence but wasnt far from it considering that I was the only customer around. Youre still at work, you can at least try be mindful
Jewel still has a niche in this ever-changing grocery marketplace.
Nice grocery store. Produce and flowers are above average. They have self checkout. Face masks are now optional for vaccinated people
A jewel is a jewel is a jewel by any other name is a jewel. Customer service here is hit or miss a 420 maybe I feel paranoid when I walk into the store a little bit a little bit did I mention a little bit.
Shopped at Jewel. One item I was looking for - sliced swiss cheese. Signature brand. Out of all Jewel brand sliced cheeses, there were only 2 packages, of Monterey Jack. Not one other type of jewel brand sliced cheeses was in stock. Horrible dairy out of stocks. Especially when thats what you are there for.
My experience at jewels was wonderful. The coustomer service was excellent. The cashier was a delight she was professional engaging and very helpful as well. I wish i had the presence of mind to ask her name because i would have definitely mentioned it in this review.
I dont shop here regularly. When I do shop there I always have trouble finding the right aisle. It could be better organized.
Im really not a dual fan I think theyre very overpriced and they dont care about people who cant afford the food so Im more am for Woodmans or for food 4 less
This store has a Good selection, but some items i.e. Cameron Organic coffee beans arent here as larger Jewel_Oscos have on shelf.
Poorly organized and limited selection compared to other Jewel locations
I absolutely love this store. The employees are friendly and they have great produce, fresh meat, canned vegetables and more. The Covid protocol is outstanding!
I liked the cashiers in the p.m. shift especially the one with the dreadlocks shes always friendly.
Lately they have been getting their asparagus from a local farm. Tastes fantastic.
Jewels is jewels . I did enjoy it was less crowded then stores in the city.
Jewel osco offers coupons to load on card thats make shopping and saving easier.
The people from the Mental rehabilitation center on Main street like to hang out front and panhandle. If you are a woman you may not feel safe in the car park at night because of all of the panhandlers ambling around the lot.
In and out quickly because everything I am looking for is easy to find.
Very good place to shop and get items you need, food and other accessories are there for you to stop in before the holidays.
This location has a decent selection of products, but the customer service is always hit and miss with the cashiers. Some are great and some are terrible. One will check your eggs to make sure theyre not cracked (thanks to the lovely cashier who did that!), while another will literally throw your groceries at you because youve opted to help bag to save time on account of their glacial pace.
Not the greatest jewel. Checkout has alwAys been a poor experience, produce is so so and layout is meh. Much prefer the jewel in wilmette on greenbay rd.
I love this Jewel. They are always well stocked and its always a helping hand near by.
Employees are very helpful. But I think this Jewel needs updating
Nice supermarket in Evanston. They carry almost everything you could need. This location is not as big as suburban locations, though. The sale prices are good deals. I ordered from the deli and was served promptly. I checked out at a busy time, around 6 pm, but did not have to wait in line. Free parking for customers.
New lay out. Fresh goods. Good store, helpful loyal staff
Great survise
I like this Jewel better than the one near my house
The place is clean and staff helpful. BUT PROPER MASK WEARING IS OFTEN VIOLATED BY BOTH THE STAFF AND CUSTOMERS.
Yes, the produce isn’t the freshest and this place isn’t the cleanest, but it’s a massive location and is open late—what more can you ask for?
My only nit pick is that baggers dont always know how to properly bag groceries. Id rather do it myself.
I might need to start going to a different grocery. The pan handlers outside are starting to get more and more emboldened
They have the best fresh orange juice around! Prices are reasonable. Only problem is that the milk is all the way in the back of the store which is a bit of a bother.
Jewel-Osco is too èxpensive
Amazing selection, friendly knowledgeable staff and speedy service. Couldn’t ask for anything more! Fully recommended!!
So let me preface this by saying this review is from 11 days after I was in the store as I was in on August 29th and it is now September 9th. I never shop at this location and thought that I would give it a try for a change of pace. The first issue was that they had a few breakfast sausage options on sale. I grabbed one and froze it when I got home. This morning, I took it out of the freezer and saw the expiration date was July 20th. Again, I bought it on August 29th. It was over a month expired and still on the shelf, and marked as on sale perhaps in an attempt to get people to buy them. Then, there was only one regular cashier open and one express cashier... at 2 o clock... on a Saturday. I had a full cart with over $300 worth of product, So express was not an option, and there was a considerable line for the regular cashier, so I opted for self checkout. The nail in the coffin was the woman helping at the self checkout. She was clearly getting irritated after the checkout alerted her 3 separate times that we were skipping the bagging area on too many things. She had to keep coming over to swipe her badge and authorize it. There was literally no more room to put any more of our groceries in the bagging area, so I didn’t really have a choice. Whether it was intentional on her part or not, I was made to feel like I was causing an inconvenience to her, and the overall experience has deterred me from returning to this location. On a positive note, their produce was really fresh so at least there’s that.
Easily the best quality grocery store Ive seen. Love having a fresh deli sandwich made while I shop for groceries!
One of the smaller Jewels so very easy to get in and out of. Great produce section.
Its ok 😊
There was a robbery as we were checking out, no one was hurt, cops arrived within 6 minutes but the thief took off
The employees are great!
Great customer service
Jewel will always be Jewel with the most expensive prices ever! 92.00 for 10 items is ridiculous.
Everything you need, you can find. The people are very nice here. Thank you Jewel food store.
Has the basics you would expect from a chain grocery store. There are always lines at the check out. Good deals often.
They have done a good job here since the pandemic. Generally the earlier you shop the better. But they do a good job with cleaning the carts and fast checkout.
Everything you need for food at a reasonable price
Nice and friendly staff.
Every time I go there there are panhandlers standing right outside the door,in front of signs that read, no panhandling, loitering etc, Evanston seems to not only not care almost seems like they encourage it,and its at every large store in town,Ive been very broke myself but these people are a nuisance and a potential traffic accident,my rating is based on Jewel not enforcing this and most employees there arent very friendly
Has a mom and pop feel.
Lack of items on shelfs
Good variety of items one of the few places around here that’s just a good old fashioned grocery store.
Nice service easy to understand the direction during the covid 19 pandemic also very helpful staff and pharmacy is great
Its Binnys. Good prices and a huge selection of booze.
Last time I went to this location the entrance smelled like a urinal in the subway. This place has panhandlers every time that I have gone here. I prefer the Howard and Kedzie location
Clean store. Friendly staff. Good selection. No charge for durable grocery bags.
While I detest the store layout, the lack of selections, and a significant number of shoppers/beggers I encounter there. I love the kind hearted and helpful staff.
The employees are really nice & helpful. The produce is fresh & plentiful. Its also in my neighborhood so its ver convenient for me to go to. They also make sure ppl wear masks.
I like shopping at this store. Its not a huge Jewel but has everything our family needs. Also, nice people work here.
There is always something good in store whenever I shop here.
It good makers for food
Just a so so supermarket. Not a lot of organic produce. They do have a good plant based meat section though. Also the cashier over charged me. Had to go back and explain to management what happened. It was a big inconvenience.
People do wear their masks and its a great neighborhood.
On this visit and at this time if day, the store was clean and the lady at self check out was very helpful and friendly.
Great Zing Wings!
This store is always well maintained. The staff is so wonderful every time I have gone. They seem to stay steadily busy so be aware you might wait some time in line. The staff handles the crowds very well. They might be a bit understaffed for how busy they are but a great jewel location!
The night time service is excellent. The meat department is second to none. The bakery makes the best and freshest raspberry coffee cake. Please try one you will be delighted. Please stop by the produce department and purchase both blackberries and raspberries with short cakes and Deans diary whipped topping. A great treat.Helene Mann is a great and hard working employee at this Jewel. Attend!!!!
Hit or miss customer service at the deli, the store seems to always be clean and reasonably stocked. Hardly ever a moment where I havent been able to get in and out in no time. This location is rather small.
Cleanliness...PoorSelection...FairPresentation... GoodAccessibility...PoorCustomer Service...FairParking....PoorShould make parking entrance other end of lot. Away from the minor cross section and allow closer handicap parking.Reduce some of the items carried... Location is over-crowded with items.
More like a convenience store than a supermarket. Poor signage. Poor selection, even for during a pandemic.
The nicest cashiers, Helene is the best!
One of my Favorite grocery stores
Best place to shop
Michael is a very good guy and he is a very big help.
I go there for the salad bar most week days for lunch. I with they would put tongs, instead of spoons, for some of the items in the salad bar - Its hard to pick up a long slice of peppers with a spoon. The cake slices at checkout are too tempting.
I shop here regularly, at least once a week if needed!
Its close to my house. The employees are ALWAYS helpful & courteous. If they dont have an item just ask the mgr & they will do their best to make sure in the future the item is in stock🥰.
Often times sale items are empty. Get a rain check. Problem is that certain items get discontinued. So what good is the rain check?Long lines at the checkout. Not enough workers or lines open. Major problem at lunchtime. People on their lunch break have little time. They travel to and from Jewel. Stand in line another 10 minutes. Lunch break is over. They dont seem to care. Happens everyday. Ive seen people leave their food at the checkout. Ran out of time. Some not all of the workers telling stories instead of doing their job.
The staff is friendly and the store is well mantained decent prices
Small, but great people work there.
Ever since they decided to only give discounts to people willing to let them track their phones I would rather shop anywhere else. every once in awhile I torture myself and run in for one thing and regret it.
Yes, people were wearing their masks, practicing social distancing and the store was clean and very clean👍
Nice store, not crowded
Located at good location. Like every other osco store.
Today I spent 30 minutes in a two customer line. Apparently Jewel-Osco seeks out employees who can ring up your groceries with the speed of a sloth. When I finally got all of my groceries rung up, the cashier informed me that they dont take vertical Identification for the purchase of alcohol despite the fact that I am 21 years of age with legitimate identification. Never try to buy alcohol here if you just turned 21. (by the way, I called Jewel-Osco customer service and they said it was not a current policy). After all this, I walked away dissatisfied and as Im leaving the cashier tells me to hold my horses as if my payment would be declined. Screw this place and their excruciatingly slow employees. Never going back.
Wonderful experience. I was surprised by the top notch service and amazing products. Their prices are reasonable and affordable. Recommended.
Its a good Jewels. They have a good selection of food but unfortunately not all food os fresh and not at all affordable prices! Customer service is excellent !
This jewels is nuce and oganized. The staff is helpful
This Jewel is relatively clean, well priced, and with moderately fresh produce. One big problem is that the check out lines are way too long and they always seem understaffed. However, the staff who arr available are always friendly and helpful.
The store is certainly more pleasant than its counterpart in Rogers Park. However, finding items that are advertised as on sale can be a torturous time sink! The long hour is a plus but items, esp. fresh grocery, tends to be overpriced for the quality you get.
