Im new to the area, and started biking again [10 years on & off), found this shop nearby, and will not go anywhere else! Micheal listens and knows what riders need, Not what he wants to sell you! A great small business to Support!

Just needed to pop in to get a quick chain clean (wipe with degreaser/cleaner) before getting some fresh oil. Was in & out in 5 minutes + he didn’t charge me! Very nice & will stop by again to get a full tune up & work done while I’m temporarily staying in Gurnee on a work assignment (I use my bike to commute)! 🚲👍🏽

Very knowledgeable staff that always provides great customer service. Much better quality bikes than big box stores. You can’t go wrong in supporting a local business as well!

Race Pace tuned up our bikes Last spring and our “antiques” are back in top form at a very reasonable price. Side note: the current situation is really tough on businesses like this. As a result of supply chain issues, they are running out of merchandise to sell and to service bikes. Please do all you can to support our young entrepreneurs.

I had a great experience with this shop and recommend them highly. In reading other reviews, it sounds like some reviewers felt that the staff was disinterested in helping them. I respectfully think they misinterpreted the situation. The owner of this shop is more introverted than most salespeople. He’s slower to speak and doesn’t exhibit the typical salesperson “friendliness.” However he is very knowledgeable about bikes and biking and demonstrated his respect for his customers to me.I walked into Race Pace Cyclery knowing the type of riding I wanted to do but not the bike I wanted to buy. The owner asked a few insightful questions (slow to speak but quick to listen) and made his recommendation. He never tried to upsell me above my budget.I wanted to shop around at other bike shops and educate myself online. Throughout my process, I visited the Race Pace Cyclery four times and called twice asking questions and making comparisons. I never felt like the owner didn’t have time for me. I ended up purchasing his original suggestion and after a month of riding (170+ miles) I love the bike and couldn’t be happier.Don’t go into this shop expecting to be treated like a lifelong friend, but go in knowing you’ll get solid advice from a shop with integrity and committed to finding the best bike for their customer while respecting the customer’s wants, needs and limits.

I too wanted to support a local business. Not this one. Owner is rude, condescending, and frankly should not be dealing with the public. After purchasing a very nice road bike there years ago, Ive not set foot in there since. Hard to believe theyre still in business. Check out Village Cycle Sport in Barrington if you want a superb bike experience.

No pushy sales pitches for things I don’t need. Let me shop in peace but could answer any questions I had and made suggestions based on what I needed.Worked with several shops in the past and the mechanical service here is by far the best. Diagnoses issues right away and my bikes never have repeat problems. I put a lot of hard miles on my bikes racing and Michael keeps them operating like new or better.

Wanted to like this place, but really wasn’t treated well. Owner interrupts me as I’m asking a question with “stop talking!” because he wanted to respond. Without letting me finish my thought - he already had an answer, without complete information. It’s the attitude others have mentioned here, even when answering the phone you’ll hear it.

This shop is close to my home, clean, well organized, and most importantly the people that run the shop are friendly and knowledgeable. I find the owner to be patient and kind. He doesn’t push repairs on me that I don’t need and at the same time he might advise me for what I might be needing it soon. They just want to get you out there riding and enjoying your bike. It’s not easy to find a car mechanic that you can trust or a bike mechanic that you can trust. I go all the way to Wauconda for my car mechanic. I just have to go to third lake for my bike mechanic. And when I can afford a new bike this is where I want to go. If you want fair prices for quality products and honest knowledgeable advice come here.

I ordered a bicycle from them and they were very helpful and knowledgable. I would recommend them for anyone in the Gurnee `round lake area. Reviews are usually a place for people to be vindictive and vent. I learned if you dont have nothing nice to say then dont say it! If you have a problem with a business share your feeling with that business owner so they have a chan ce to rectify. Dont just bash them. I am a business owner and some people are never happy. We cant perform miracles. I have no affiliation with this bike shop and have friend that owns a different one on the North Shore but I would have my bike worked on locally by Race Pace.

I had a great experience at this shop. I brought my bike in for a tune up. The mechanic did a great job and made a legitimate effort to keep the cost down being I was way over due and needed to replace some parts. Hopefully I don’t do that again but I’ll definitely keep going here!!

I have brought my old bike to this small, local shop for tune ups over the last couple of years and they did a great job at a competitive price. I came in earlier this year to purchase a new bike. I had a specific model in mind. Michael asked me some questions and listened carefully to what I was looking for in terms of my intended use and performance goals. He worked with me for over an hour, had me try out a few different bikes, including the model I had come in for, and then recommended a bike that was not even in his inventory and was lower priced than the bike I was initially interested in. The new bike arrived a few days later, and it is indeed a perfect for me. Michael worked with me to tweak the new bike so that it was just right and spent the time to show me the differences between my new bike and the old one. While new bikes and bike maintenance can be pricey, and small bike shops generally tend to be more male rider oriented, I feel that Race Pace provides honest and skilled service.

Poor attitude and customer service. Check out Lifestyle cycles in Libertyville if you want classy customer service, fair service pricing, and a positive cycling experience. I have no affiliation with that shop....just an honest customer appreciation. wish it was different cuz this is the closest shop to my home.

I brought in my mountain bike for repair because one of the gears on it was slipping and the rear tire rim bearing was not spinning smoothly.Race Pace Cyclery said that I might need a new rear tire rim, chain and possibly cassette. They quoted me somewhere in the region of $150 when all the work was said and done.In the end, they only charged me around $80. They fixed my rear tire and replaced the chain. They could have easily charged me more money but didnt. Why cant more bike shops be like this one - honest!I plan on using them again in the future.Thank you!

Dropped my bike off for a repair in july and got the runaround for almost 3 months. Kept being told he was waiting for answers from specialized, then told he was moving and not open. When I contacted specialized they said they knew nothing of the repair. When I called the owner out on it all the sudden it got sent to specialized and what I was told was under warranty all the sudden cost me over 400$. Never again will I go there and deal with him.

Poor and depressing customer service. Walked in and asked if they had full suspension bikes and his response was No, This really isnt a good area for it. So just because we shop there means we only bike in that area? Thanks buddy. That store really isnt a good area for your poor attitude and lack of customer service either. Safe to say we wont be going back. If I could rate 0 I certainly would.
