I arranged for Hocon Gas for the annual maintenance/service of my gas fireplace. Rich was the technician that arrived to perform the service. He was friendly and professional throughout the appointment. He asked pertinent questions about the unit and was knowledgeable and able to answer my questions. Rich was also respectful of my home and covered the work area that included wood floors and area rugs. When he finished he cleaned the area where was working. Rich is a consumate professional and a great representative for Hocon Gas!!

I have used Hocon Gas for years for my propane gas logs. More specifically my “go to person” is Richard O. Each year around November Rich comes over to clean my unit and makes sure that everything is in working order. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating, and responsive. I found Hocon to be the most difficult vendor i have dealt with in years. The installation staff was fine. To call and get an answer to any question usually involved making three to five phone calls because follow up calls were not made. People didnt call back
Evidently, when they set up a “budget payment”, they “forget” to add any type of fees. Sooooo, if you have their “budget plan” set up, you need to either have them add all the fees to whatever they erroneously calculated, or you need to pay the balance they “forgot” every month. Otherwise, you’ll get a call out of the blue from collections, like I did. Soooooo, if I have to pay the balance they “forgot” every month, the purpose of setting up a “budget payment “ every month is what? I can’t wait to move so I’m not forced to use these people any more. If I could leave less than one star, I would. When I buy my house next year, one of the first questions I’m going to ask is who the gas company is and if I have a choice. If this company is my only choice, I’m walking away no matter how much I love the house.

Ive Been With This Company Through Summit Woods Apartments Oh Since Last Year May. Never A Problem With Payments.All Of A Sudden My gas Bill Jumps From $55.00 to $135.00 . They Claim They Havent received My Payment. Even though I Paid On Line With DOXO So Long Story Short. Every Month My Bill Just Keeps Getting Higher And Higher. just Last Month Ive Sent These Shysters $269.00 Now I Get A Bill Saying That I Owe $400.00 . threatening Me With A Shut Off Notice. you No What My Answer To That is Shut It Off . Because You Will Not Get A another Penny From Me. And Its Just Me . Go Figure.
We signed up for the seasonal service plan when we moved in the autumn, and its been well worth it. When our condensate line in the attic froze in single-digit temps, Andrew came at 1am on a Saturday to figure out a temporary solution to keep the furnace going! Corrin came a few days later - despite a snowstorm - to figure out a more permanent solution, and its been fine since. He was even kind enough to plow our driveway on his way out!
Being billed for propane tank maitinence when we havent lived there for 3 months is absurd.
Corey R arrived within the time frame window and shortly thereafterhad solved the ignition problem. He also cleaned the dust out of one of the pipes and my fireplace was in working order. Great Technicians! Office staff makes it painful to do business with this company. The sales guy was good and the technician that came to my house was great, just paperwork and dealing with the office staff is a real pain. I was begging them to take my money and schedule things but they kept saying oh let me check on that and get back to you. I finally called back a few days later went right to service and they took care of me!

Hocon is the areas best service provider. I say that in long standing experience with them starting with how they salvage a used jumbo 120 pound tank and found a mate and delivered back to their yard two they carried all the way to us. This recent experience is with a fireplace insert unfortunately bought by us elsewhere when we did not know Hocon. No technician annually servicing it before we finally got smart and called Hocon taught us more about how to keep and maintain it as well as provided technical adjustments and added protection that will allow us to light it upon command. Their customer service from office to techs in our home our first-rate consistently. After their services, we know there are no better after 20 years in this household and trying and failing with others up until Hurricane Sandy. Since then, we have had HOCON Gas and we are delighted to pay for their services.
I am most disappointed with the service of Hocon Gas, Guilford.I have been contacting the office nearly every day for two weeks, trying to arrange a delivery. My last delivery was two months ago. I have been offered nothing but excuses for two weeks, and yet no delivery has been scheduled. The lack of concern is most disconcerting.*** I would suggest finding another vendor for your propane requirements***.
Propane is a tricky thing because you get kicked in when you lease a tank. I have been very pleased with a Hocon over the past year. Most recently, Hocon did a tremendous job with installing two new propane tanks for a generator. The sales manager, Andrew came out to size the new tanks and plan out the work. His proposal was very clear, and he was patient as I took my time with the decision. When I was ready for them to do the work, his coordination with Generator company and town was flawless. The guys doing the work were thoughtful and efficient - even on one of the hottest days of the summer. They did a quality job to pass inspection. They finished the work in time for the generator to be run and inspected. When I requested a propane delivery, they were here the next day. I couldn’t have asked for more and highly recommend.
Bought a new home and searched around for reliable service, fair price and friendly, professional staff. Found all at Hocon. Have added a whole house generator and received great service relocating tanks adding 2nd tank. Grateful!

I really enjoy the gas fireplace Hocon ordered and installed for me. Nick was helpful in explaining the entire process of replacing my existing wood-burning fireplace with a beautiful gas fireplace thats allergy and asthma friendly. The fireplace also has a battery back-up, so it can be used even in the event of a power outage, which can help prevent pipes from freezing in the winter.

We have had a gas fireplace for 15 years that needs service and burners replaced every year. This year the service guys were awesome even though it did take 3 visits. The fire has never looked this good!
Have used them for almost 2 years for my propane fireplace. Always polite when it comes to service. Also they are flexible when scheduling refills. Will consider them if anything goes wrong with the hearth product.
Andrew and the Guilford team helped us get a gas fireplace installed in a cottage renovation. The work got seriously delayed by the contractor but the unit was stored without incident in Guilford. It was eventually installed and when a piece was found missing they got that and made sure to finish the job.We recommend these guys wholeheartedly!
Please be aware of this company and the charges for their gas. Have been paying 1.25 more per gallon than the average area rate for propane. Customer service experience poor.

Stuck using this company after purchasing a home with their tanks. Customer Service is awful, prices are higher than other companies. Being charged a $65 fee for delivery, and they cant tell me what time they will be here either. I was told I could not do a partial fill in the winter. WTF is the difference when I need heat and dont have $700 to fill the tanks up full. I will definitely be switching companies after this!!!! Do yourself a favor and stay away. I havent read one good review on this company. I should have had the tanks picked up back in September and gone with someone else, but I didnt know I could do that. Live and learn.
I called to stop any further deliveries due to abnormally high prices (over 1.50+ more than market prices) and they admitted to an error in the billing. Makes me wonder how many people just accepted the price abuse an didnt even notice.**However, they would only adjust the error and give me a refund if I agreed not to leave! Hocon charges considerably higher rates compared to other area providers and has bad customer service. Look elsewhere.
DONT USE THEM...customer since 2003, treated disrespectfully by staff over delivery issues - this has been the 3rd time in 12 years that I have had a major issue with someone in the Guilford Office. E. Osterman or some other provider will be getting my business eventually. Do not expect white glove service from Hocon, there is no localized personal feel or attention to customer service. I will say this though, the guys who come out and deliver, inspect if you have a lead or smell propane are great, friendly, courteous and seem to local good folks. The issues are with the office personnel.
I was a HOCON customer until I sold my house on 9/30/16. They came out to read the tank meter that day and advised that the new owner had signed up with them. HOCON would collect the value of the gas left in the tank form him and then issue a check to me. It would take 2-3 weeks to process. Simple enough. With no check by late October, I called and was told I should have it within a week. I called again today (11/10/16) and was told I will have the check next week which will be 6-7 weeks after my closing. Not exactly top-notch customer service. The rest of their service, while I had service with them, was OK.
I am a very satisfied customer and have been for several years now. The service is unparalleled and the cost of propane very reasonable. I have purchased a second gas grill from Hocon of Guilford and they maintain my pool heater. If you are looking for a reliable, honest business and propane provider your search is over!

BUYER BEWARELet me preface this review by saying I have contacted the Attorney Generals office and submitted a complaint against HOCON gas and I would like to advise anyone else who feels they have been taken advantage of by this company to do the same.We moved into our new home (rental) in July 2017. Our landlord previously used HOCON as a supplier for propane. When we moved in she had forgotten to remove auto delivery. They came out and filled our tank for $3.99 a gallon in July - which was an astronomical rate at the time.We called up and complained. They said this amount was based on our usage and size of the tank. I wish I knew then what I know now and I would have fought them back then.We asked them to remove auto delivery and had our landlord call to have the account put in our name.Last week low and behold they came out and delivered propane even though we had auto delivery supposedly shut off. So I called them and they claim they had no record of requesting auto delivery cancelled - which was a lie but of course we had no proof.So this time I requested proof of this change in writing - which I have yet to receive.Now to the real nitty gritty of it - they charged us a whopping $6 a gallon on our fill!!!! This is literally robbery! So I called multiple propane companies in the area; quoted the usage and the size of the tank and I was given the rate their current auto delivery customers were receiving and let me tell you all the rates were in the LOW $3s. I also just received and invoice for a tank rental for close to $70 when other suppliers charge around $40 - $50 for leasing their tanks.So I called HOCON back and explained all this. The call Rep became nervous and kept putting me on hold. She said she could reduce our rate to $4.79 a gallon. Big whoop right??? Thats still WAY higher than the average. And why were we not charged the lesser rate to begin with?So we have contacted the AGs office, and are having ALL Gas come out and remove their tank and be our new provider for propane. Not only are ALL Gas prices fair, but they are an honest reputable company and I highly recommend using them for propane - heck I recommend any other company out there over HOCON. They are a horrible company that rips people off - look at their reviews and you will see we arent their only victims. STAY AWAY from HOCON gas.

Very poor service. They lack professionalism, sympathy, accountability and customer service.My range stopped working on a Thursday night, I called first thing in the morning on Friday to the office in Guilford and requested a delivery. Someone came on Friday afternoon and filled up the Tank and on his way out of our driveway, failed to tell my children that he needs to relit the gas. I came home and got a voice message that I should call the Office, no other explanations. I called but it was after hours and the office was closed and my range still wasnt working.The next 2days office was closed also. So, I couldnt use the range and cook for my family. I called again on Monday morning at 8 am. It was then, that I found out, the gas need to be relit. they said, some one will contact me to come over and fix it. I called every 2 hours and they told me the same thing. I said to them, this is an argent matter, I dont have stove or Dryer for the past 3 days and this is getting very costly for me. They assured me that some one will come. I called again at 3 pm and asked them about the status and said to them, you are closing at 4:30 and nobody hasnt come in yet. She assured me again that some one will come even after hours.I called again at 4:31. Office was closed. The Emergency line picked up and he asks me if this is an emergency call?, I explained again to him that Im calling since 8 oclock this morning and I dont consider this service call as an emergency call. He tells me, the office is closed and he doest see any called being made by me. So, I have to pay for an emergency service although I have been waiting since 8 AM.I am so disgusted with their service and handling my situation that Im thinking to switch companies.I hope, some one from this Company will read my review and follows up on my complaint and disciplines every body in that Office for their lack of professionalism.
Most of these negative reviews are well warranted. I was a HOCON customer for several years until recently. When I moved to Amerigas I realized how bad I had been treated by HOCON. The gas prices were more than 30% more, they charged for a tank and always charged this HAZMAT fee on propane delivery. When I asked them to pick up their tank, mind you I live 1mile from their store, they charged me $100. Overall, it has been a terrible experience all around. I had a water heater fail/leak and called the sales staff for an estimate on a tankless on demand system. I told them i needed it installed asap...I heard from them a week later after I already had a new one put in! This is how HOCON works. Every aspect of the company. There are other choices out there. Any choice is better than HOCON.
The only reason they have two stars is because the guy Nick was on time. I was told i would get a quote for a new install on Monday it has taken a week. I called and he said i will email it over right now and never got anything. Business going elsewhere.
