There’s a lot of great musical instruments and supplies, but the customer service is lacking. We knew what we wanted and couldn’t get help. They were busy with other customers, which is wonderful for the store, but it would be nice if they had more employees or people who stayed at the register.

Was in the area for work, and had some free time so decided to stop in to compare a 60s vs 50s neck Les Paul as I wasnt sure which neck I preferred. Called ahead to make sure they were in stock. I was referred to Dan as the resident Les Paul guy. Walked in and Dan the Les Paul Man was super friendly. He set me up right away with a 60s Standard, 50s Standard, and Slash model Les Paul. He quickly recognized that I knew what my goal was coming in, and set me up at an amp similar to what I have, and then just kind of left me alone to try things out and compare/contrast. He checked in every now and then just to make sure my needs were met and I understood what the differences were in the models he gave me. I played for an hour or so, ultimately favoring the 50s neck. When I left, I just went to tell him thanks for helping me. He said no problem, and offered for me to come back in and try the same setup in one of the soundproof lesson rooms so I didnt have background noise and could really hear the difference in the 50s Standard vs Slash model and decide for myself if it was worth $500 more for hotter pickups in the Slash model. Of course, I took him up on that offer and came back a couple days later. True to his word, he set me up in a lesson room and just let me jam. He checked in every now and then, made sure I didnt want to try out any other models, amps, etc. Throughout the process he was not pushy at all, didnt try to upsell, didnt try to convince me to try something I didnt want, and just checked in from time to time. To me, this is perfect customer service - recognize when someone knows what theyre looking for, and let them try it out.To Dan - THANK YOU. You set the standard for customer service from my perspective. Laid back, non-intrusive, and friendly without being fake. I appreciate your time and accommodation very much.

Store worker didnt hesitate when asked to check 2 sets of mics & cords that we were suspecting as possible cause of problems with cutting out. He offered suggestions of other potential sources of the problem. Very helpful!

Just visited for the first time and had the pleasure of working with Dan. What a great guy! Easily the best encounter Ive ever had at a Guitar Center. Looking forward to exploring some music from his band Johnny Distortions. Hoping to come back again soon!

I love this store and the staff. Ernie is an awesome dude and will work hard to get you what you’re looking for. The atmosphere and selection here is FAR better than that is the San Marcos store. The inventory they have on hand is better than any other store I’ve been to in California. I drive an hour to and from just to be helped by the staff at this store. You won’t be disappointed 🤘🏼🤘🏼

This is a great store with excellent employees. Five stars for them, but ZERO for corporate management.I got up this morning fully intending to go to GC to spend a couple of hundred bucks on myself for my birthday. When I went to check the website for something I noticed it is mask required and decide to go to a competitor who will allow me to spend my money without a mask.PS I am vaccinated.

This place is pretty bad. The customer service is the worst. Only worth it to get strings or something quick. If you have time and are looking for the best deal check out Pitbull Audio in national city

With five or six associates working, the customer service was lacking. If you are coming here dont expect anyone to wait on you, but when someone did finally ask us if we needed help, they did not have a bad attitude, and they were very helpful. The only thing was that he was also helping three other people at the same time. We found exactly what we were looking for and they are always well stocked. The bathrooms were open and they were clean. Everything is open shelved, which made it very hard to get lost, as long as you know what youre looking for. This store is not for new and inexperienced musicians. Bring a friend to help guide you because the employees are busy helping other people or talking on the phone.

Music is my happy place so I can spend hours at Guitar Center. The team at Guitar Center are nice and knowledgeable.

So thankful for brick and mortar businesses like guitar center. My most recent visit was a busy day, and some of the employees were very preoccupied. I had trouble initially locating something I was looking for. The third employee I asked was able to help me. One individual, working in the drum department came out to the main floor and offered to ring me up as there were many people waiting in line.

The most knowledgeable, friendly, efficient staff work here. Non pushy sales. Awesome variety of everything to do with music from instruments, lessons and sound equipment to DJ pro equipment. Great prices. So much to see.

Good place, halfway stoked not as bad as others. I find myself always buying the last one of something, however I have come twice and they didnt have what I needed in stock ended up going elsewhere.Customer service, not what it used to be especially concerning discounts.I used to brag so much about the way they helped you when you need a good discount; I would leave so grateful, I would refer so many people to Guitar Center.Its different now... o well.

Just walked in to the la Mesa guitar center to buy myself a $500 amplifier. Five or six people at the front counter, no one greeted me. As I was I was walking through the store I asked an individual where the amplifiers were. He pointed me in the direction and then walked away. I went up to a counter back by the amplifiers where there were two employees behind the counter. One employee was drinking a beverage and while I was standing there looking at him he glanced at me and then put his beverage down so he could answer the phone. Needless to say, I left the store and Im going to buy my amplifier online. There look to be more employees than customers in the store. But yet, I might as well have been a ghost!

The best place in town for all your musical needs, no matter the genre or you experience level. Staff is awesome to the beginner and the pros. Get there when they open cause when their busy they get busy.

Dan is the man! I’ve been to this location a few times and Dan has helped me twice. He was very busy today, but still took the time to make sure my friend and I were taken care of. Great customer service and very happy with our purchases!

This place is my version of heaven.

I always enjoy checking out the gear at Guitar Center. However this location seems to be going under. They had a lot of stuff out of stock and seemed to be understaffed. I had to wait 15 minutes or so before I could get a couple of questions answered. One item had a sign on it that was just placed on top of it carelessly. I inquired about it thinking it was a great buy only to find out that the item wasnt priced at all. I went to ask about another item but they were completely out of stock and couldnt provide detail as to when they could order it in. I ended up not purchasing anything that day due to the inconsistencies that came about. Hopefully next trip will be a little more convenient. I give 3 stars because the clerk that helped was from out of state but super friendly and outgoing.

I have frequented GS since I was a kid and I used to go to GS on C street downtown. Never have I ever experienced such a competent, resourceful, and courteous sales person as Dan. He made me feel right at home and was one of 2 employees that came to my aid and apologized for overwhelming customer influx. Dan ... Thanks a bunch I cannot tell you how many times I have been ignored when waiting for help ... YOU ARE THE BEST!

Stopped by today with my father who was looking to purchase a new acoustic guitar. We were not even in the room for two minutes trying out one he liked when a rude employee walked in with another customer and asked us if we mind, that he wanted to show his “friend” some guitars. My dad put the guitar back and moved to the other side of the room to look at other guitars to let the employee and the other customer look at the guitars my dad was looking at.. apparently this wasn’t enough for the employee and he told us to leave the room to show the other customer the guitars.. I don’t understand this. First off we were there first, so If he wanted privacy to play the guitars, wait your turn or browse the room like the rest of us even if other people are present. it’s a big room. I unfortunately didn’t get the employees name but he was a tall bald Caucasian man. We ended up going to Sam Ash (much more friendlier and helpful employees) and got a guitar there.. I was really shocked at this type of customer service and from the Yelp reviews I read it sounds like this is an on going problem.

Buy most of my gear here and its hard not to come in and stay/play for hours. Its a friggin musicians candy store. Ive been very fortunate that whatever Ive been interested in playing, theres been someone who can answer my questions very knowledgeably........and Im all over the place. Woodwind, percussion, guitar, bass, harmonica, brass, dont matter. I dont OWN all those instruments, but if Im buying one Ill know the differences between an instrument and a toy with the advice I get. Good job staff!

Went here to buy a digital piano for a family member. Right away I received excellent service and advice from Bok. He provided great customer service, answered my questions and was extremely patient. Top notch service. Checked out some guitars while there, an excellent selection and wel laid out.

Its a great company! If there is an issue with something you bought, they will take care of it.

Came in for a microphone which there was a good selection to choose from and all of the staff we interacted with were very friendly !

I was helped by Dan in the acoustic section and this was by far the best possible costumer service imaginable, he was completely swamped with other customers and he handled it extremely well literally running to make sure everyone was helped and got what they needed. Also extremely knowledgeable about any guitar in the store and even went to grab anything you could possibly need to get set up and get playing.

Even though the store was very busy the associates were on point and had very good attitudes!

They get 2 stars for huge inventory but customer service is worse than terrible. I waited for 10 minutes to pay for $30 worth of merch but couldn’t find anyone who would take my money. The guy at the counter told me to hunt someone down but not one of the jerk-clerks would even look my way! No wonder they’re goin’ under!

Best Guitar Center Ive ever been to. Dan was beyond helpful and was cooler than the other side of the pillow. He gave me the best customer service I have ever had and I am beyond stoked with the guitar that I got thanks to him. Long story short, this Guitar Center rules, and Dan is the man!

By far one of my favorite guitar center locations. Every time I’m in town I make it a point to come by this shop and check out their new selections and used guitars. The shop always has a great selection of great deals or music items for anyone looking to either plus up there equipment or change the venueI have a recommend this location to any musician in the area.

I have been thinking about buying an electronic drum set for quite a while so I stopped by Guitar Center. The man working in the percussion area was very friendly and answered all my questions. They have drum sets and electronic drum sets you can try out and play. I ended up purchasing a pair of drumsticks which Im very happy with and I found electronic drum that I might purchase in the very near future. The overall selection of musical instruments is phenomenal. Every time I walk into you the La Mesa its like being in heaven. I will continue to go back to this Guitar location like I have in the past since theyve opened the the door.

I went to guitar center yesterday to just check out some guitars & feel out what was a good fit for me. The sales process with Ian was the most pleasant. Extremely helpful. He offered many insights on different aspects of guitars; anything from body sizes to what differentiates a 4000$ guitar from a 2000$ guitar. He also listened to my music and gave input on what would be a good fit for what I do. I never felt pressure to buy and if anything he was only interested in helping me get what was best for me. Whoa! What a positive experience to kick off my musical journey! I was a bit intimidated in this new environment but Dan was just awesome. I didnt spend a lot but he sure did spend the time to make sure I got what I was looking for. Extremely courteous and very helpful with his insight and suggestions.

Everyone was cool. Nobody pressured anything to me. They had everything I was looking for so it made it quick and easy for me. I did notice that they didnt have any very affordable guitars in stock this trip. Mayhaps next time. A couple of $100 Fender Squires would be acceptable.

Do yourself a favor-if you’re just starting out come here! We went to Mark’s Guitar Exchange and they couldn’t have been more rude. This place, while the selection is lacking a little, in light of Covid, they won’t treat you like some second class citizen. And you can test out the merchandise.

Guitars were in the back, not in the center. I didnt even get a guitar when I went there. It should be called Musical instruments strewn about and not guitar center. It was ridiculous to even think they were being honest with us. Another corporate lie to make them more money. Its a shame how the economy has declined in such ways. I wish I lived in the times where you could trade your own dry, homemade bread for... idk a car or something, I dont know what they had in the 14th century. Anyway, corporate greed is what Im saying. 1 star! Wait, how do you change the rating!

You used to be able to try out any of the acoustic guitars and now they are all locked. You can not try out guitars without a sales person standing around and thats not really the guitar experience I want to have when Im trying out instruments.Edit: while guitars are still locked, staff is super attentive, helpful and friendly. Dan lined up the guitars I wanted to try and gave me time and freedom to strum away. Definitely a good experience at this GC.

I stopped by the guitar dept. at the La Mesa Guitar Center to get some hands-on shopping time to find a new bass. With the help of Dans vast knowledge and experience, he really helped me to sort through all the options and pros/cons of each bass. He saved me a lot of time by narrowing down the choices to the best match for my needs. It was a busy weekend afternoon with other customers also needing his attention, but I appreciated Dan for balancing his time between groups. He got me set up with my top choices and then gave me the space I needed to try out each bass. No high pressure sales tactics or rushing me to make a decision. Because of Dan’s help, I have a beautiful new bass on order. Thanks, Dan!

Extremely helpful gentlemen informed me of their match any price deal and I was able to afford and buy in the moment an expensive piece of equipment that will enhance my sound into a new strangeness that will allow me to become an international superstar and roustabout.

Lots of parking. Inside is big lots of room and space. I like that you can physically handle and try out their instruments. They also buy back instruments. They have guitar classes. Its clean nice environment.

My First time going there I thought it was just like ok its a store and employees but no I was totally wrong I took my sons guitar in for all strings install n other things they took so great care n customer service was 💯💯💯💯💯 they take there job so personal n family orientated I will definitely go back for all my repairs

Horrible customer service. Called ahead to make sure they accepted signed guitars. The man on the phone said they did, but when we got to the store, they said they didnt. This wouldnt have been too concerning if they didnt make us wait in a fifteen minute line because no one helped out the poor cashier. Will not be coming back and encourage others to find another store.

Bought my first guitar with the amazing help of DAN. He was so nice it was so incredible. Give that man a $100000000 RAISE. That’s the CEO of Guitar Center right there.

The staff is knowledgeable and quick to help you find what you need. They are sure to throw in all relevant offers/discounts etc and provide an experience that keeps me coming back. Very satisfied with all my purchases and visits so far.
