We booked the Sunset Dinner Cruise. Such an amazing experience to see Maui from the water! We had the best time. The staff, chef and captain were all friendly and their service is beyond my expectations! The waves and weather were perfect and calm. We even saw dolphins. The Captain stopped the boat as we watched and took pictures of them. That was the highlight and was unexpected. The sunset was beautiful! The food were delicious! It was the perfect evening to end our stay in Maui.
Went on the wild side snorkeling trip they offer and it was amazing. Professional staff, great food, and great snorkeling spots. Keep in mind the amount of locations is based on the weather. But we were able to go to 5 different spots. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Would definitely recommend.Ps. They also mentioned 80% of your ticket goes to the foundation for research and preservation.
We took the deluxe whale watch sail and our captain was able to sail part of the way back which was fun for him and all of us. We also saw more whales than our crew had ever seen that close. It was nothing short of miraculous. Babies, moms, all playing and swimming together. This was in late March/early April, when some people were saying the whales had already left. This was certainly not true! The food left much to be desired, but we ate in advance. Cocktails were sweet and great!
On 27 January 2021, we took our staff, and included some of our patients who we ran into, on a private charter with this company. We were on the Spirit, a 60 foot watercraft that was clean, well kept, and perfect for snorkeling and wildlife watching. But thats only half of it. The customer service of Captain Emily Johnston, and her crew, Casey and Desmond, was noting short of a Disney University experience. Even the sign-up process with John was friendly and professional. My wife and I have enjoyed the islands of Hawaii for over thirty years, and have been on many oceanic experiences, from scuba to deep sea fishing. This experience has been the best we have encountered to date. Not everyones experience will be as crazy wonderful as ours was with whales, dolphins, and a fantastic snorkel adventure during whale season, but if you have half of what we experienced, it will have been worth it. That will be our expectations when we return this summer and sign up with them again. Even the food was great. Thank you to everyone we encountered, you made our week worth the trip, even during the restrictions of a pandemic, which protocols they followed perfectly.Until next time...thank you again!Rob and Tracy
We had a wonderful experience in mid-Feb and saw dozens of whales - mom and baby pairs. They even put the mic underwater and let us listen to the male songs. It raised some questions among our party on the authenticity of the concert of sounds going on down there from the males alone, but nonetheless it was a great experience with a knowledgeable and friendly crew.
Beautiful and marvelous whales. I couldn’t close my mouth when pure baby and huge mom was coming under the crystal sea with sunlight .
Based on a friends recommendation, we booked an excursion with Pacific Whale since the pricing was reasonable. Another reason? It included a continental breakfast and lunch. Due to covid restrictions, seating was preassigned so there was no need to rush to be first in line. I did like the idea of preassigned seating. On our way to Lanai, the staff gave us instructions as well as a visual demonstration of what we would be seeing. In the distance we saw a whale but maintained some distance as well spinning dolphins. Fascinating to watch so be patient as one will jump out of the water and spin. We anchored at our snorkeling site and Im not a strong swimmer but even if I was, I recommend the floater. The swells were coming in strong and would have thought being in the water would make you nauseous.Yep saw the fish but I just wanted back on the boat. Luckily we left after others had fun going down the slide and obviously I was dreading the ride back. The crew? Top notch in tending to the sea sick passengers which in the case, included my husband, daughter, friend and me. I stayed at the back of the boat in case you know..... but I had ginger ale on my side. Ive been told the large swells are uncommon but if Id say take some motion sickness medication because overall this is a fun way to spend a day in Maui.
Wow! Just wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to the all womens crew on the Ocean Spirit! I was amazed at their skills with the sailing and their upbeat responsiveness, highly trained, courteous, and fun! Who wouldnt like being serenaded by a great singer playing the signature Hawaiian ukulele.Thank you!
Whale watch with an experienced team who are also researchers. I experienced whale watching while learning about their behaviours, history and conservation efforts. If you’re looking for a tour where you can also feel good supporting and protecting wildlife then this tour is for you.The whales came so close to us we had to cut the engines as they were inside the 100yard range and the whales came closer to check us out. We had a mother calf on both sides and it was incredible and quiet too. There was a distinct reverence for what we were witnessing. As soon as the whales moved away a safe distance we started up and moved away to give them a break from us tourist. We went off in search of new ones.We also saw dolphins and you know it’s good when the people who do this day in and day our are beyond excited. What an amazing trip!!
Recommend x 1,000. After our dolphin adventure pretty sure our kids will be marine biologists - or sailors
Had an amazing time and saw plenty whales. We did the early morning whale watching sail tour. Captain Anna, Jack, and Desmond did a great job and were very informative. We also did the Captains sunset dinner tour and Heddie was really friendly and informative as well. We couldnt have asked for better service!
We had a great experience snorkeling with Pacific Whales! The crew was very friendly, the breakfast and lunch was included in the price. We enjoyed this family trip. We saw plenty of fishes and turtles, my kids loved this experience.Definitely recommend them!!!
We booked the whale tour in the evening from 2-4 during mid November. We didn’t see a whale breach the water but we saw it do a few dives and blows. It was fun chasing the whale and the workers were very knowledgeable and made the experience fun! The boat was grade A and very clean and had plenty of room. We sat at the top deck and were able to view every sighting. The PWF supports great causes and the story will make you fall in love with the whales around the world!
Great boat tour but the experience on the dock is confusing so get there early. Also if you get seasick you should know that they cut the motor and sail on the sunset cruise which made me a bit nauseous.
We did a 7am snorkeling tour with Pacific Whale Foundation and it was worth every penny. Both the locations were great and we had fun snorkeling. Being our first time snorkeling, the crew made sure we were comfortable in the water and helped us in every way possible. We also saw lot of whales throughout the tour. The crew was friendly and took great care with food and drinks. I would highly recommend this snorkeling tour.
Such a great organization with great intensions but SHAME ON YOU FOR WORKING WITH PEOPLE LIKE TICKETS FOR LESS KNOWING THEY RIP PEOPLE OFF. Im sure your organization knows whats going on and yet you allow it to continue.
The CREW was simply outstanding! I should have written down names but I went on anorkel trip 10.2.21!
We had a female hard working crew . So friendly and professional. Awesome people, memorable experience swimming close to sea turtles and wonderful fish on coral reef
Went looking for dolphins on a small catamaranHad fun drinks and o.k. foodNo dolphins, saw several turtles.
We took the snorkeling trip out to Lanai. It was excellent. All of Staff members were very knowledgeable and everyone was very friendly. The current changed while we were out that day and a few of the swimmers needed a bit of extra help to get back to the boat. The situation was handled extremely well. We saw several whales on the ride out to Lanai including one that swam next to the boat for a short time. We also saw a large pod of spinner dolphins which was amazing and the highlight of the trip.
Went yesterday on a trip to Lani for snorkeling. I should have checked on the type of boat. It was a large boat and not a catamaran, so it was a little rough, but not too bad. It boat had a lot of wear and tear. The crew was good but the food was just OK. The sound system for announcements was terrible inside the cabin. We could not understand much of the information given. The foundation does great work and is certainly worth supporting.
My family and I did the sunset tour from 530pm-730pm. It was a lovely ride from the start. The crew were so polite and the ukulele player was wonderful. He gave us a bunch of information about the 5 islands that were in view from where our boat was coasting. The food was pretty good for being a heavy appetizer on a boat kind of a deal. It’s good for kids as we took our very excited 4 year old with us and he did great. The boat is safe and plenty of spaces to sit and relax and watch the sunset. Would highly recommend if you are looking to go on a boat ride during your stay. The photos I posted are all different times of the evening and none are color corrected.
Really cool place with lots of exhibits and fish. The far and away best part was the whale exhibit.
We took the snorkeling boat tour to Molokoni. It was great. Every part of the tour was well organized. The staff are professional, friendly, and care for what the do. The snorkeling site is amazing.I would skip the second snorkeling site in front of south beach and focus on the first one
Did a whale tour and the crew was super nice. I just wish we were able to see the whales a bit better than we did. We actually got a better view of them from our condo balcony than we did from the boat. At no point in time did we see a whale half as close as any pictures you see on this site. We saw other boats closer and I was not expecting to be SUPER close...but close enough to be able to see them without squinting.
The island views and the cruise it self where very nice. Also the crew was great. If it wasn’t a fund raiser for the foundation, I wouldn’t have done it. The salad was very bedder and only take a few bites. It was a small sized dinner and was bland. Also my fiancé is gluten free it was tasteless to her. Though the worst thing was the restroom. It was the worst smelling bathroom I’ve ever had been in. I’ve used outhouses and it was 5X worst then that. I couldn’t breathe, that’s no lie
We did the sunset cruise and were very pleasantly surprised. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, a great ukelele musician, generous drinks with a decent selection of options and really good appetizers. Saw a herd (?) of mating whales from many angles. Not over crowded, just delightful. Highly recommended, excellent value.
Our sunset tour was the highlight of our trip. Wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting Maui who wants an unforgettably romantic and captivating evening.
They are a worthy foundation. The snorkeling tour they have is amazing! It was worth the price for sure. The staff was great!
We had a great time there. Crew was awesome and gave us plenty of pointers as it was our first time snorkeling. We loved the experience.
If youre ever in Maui during the early part of the year, the Pacific Whale Foundation is the tour to get. Ive been four times in my last three trips to Maui and have yet to experience anything close to a dud.Proceeds from your whale watch or snorkeling trip go toward research and preservation for our marine mammals, and education for you.
We appreciate that the money goes to a good cause. We saw plenty of whales, and we were pleased that the ship kept a respectful distance.Communication and customer service was excellent from the all-female crew, as was the lunch they prepared for us on the grill. They were generous with the breakfast, lunch, snacks, and other amenities. My only gripe is that I just wish we didnt have to pay an extra 10$ to rent a wetsuit. It seems kind of backwards to me that drinks are included but wetsuits cost extra. Why not include the wetsuits and then charge for drinks? We have heard that sunblock can be damaging to coral, so for a company thats environmentally conscious why not encourage clients to cover up exposed skin by lending out wetsuits so less people are lathering on the sunblock? It could even be turned into a teachable moment on sustainable tourism. Anyway, small complaint about an otherwise outstanding experience. I would definitely recommend them.
The whale came right up to the boat. We got some really good video and photos. The tour guide was great. Very knowledgeable. Ocean was calm today. Good day for boating.
Super easy and quick to board and the short briefing doesnt take too long. The guide is very friendly and knows there stuff, being able to answer just about every question you got about the whales. Its immediately clear that that know where the whales are since you can look overboard and see a whale about every 2 minutes.
The experience was great but the actual value of food and drinks was maybe $5 pp. Just don’t rely on it and best to take your own snacks. Very friendly staff. No need to be 45 mins earlier as they suggested in the multiple email. If you signed online waver just be there 10 mins before scheduled departure.
The dinner cruise was wonderful. The views were breathtaking and the staff bent over backwards to make your experience memorable. The whales were out of season but every worker was a marine biologist who could answer questions. I feel good that my cost was a 100% donation to the Pacific Whale Foundation.
Loved how covid safe they were! Not sure how someone below can rate a business poorly during a pandemic because they’re trying to protect their customers! We really appreciated it as there is community spread in Maui. Masks are required the entire trip, unless actively eating or drinking. While we had assigned seats, people got up and sat on the netting in the front for a bit too, or stood on the sides. The Captain did a great job of moving the boat so both sides could see. We saw lots of whales and the naturalist was very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. We did the whale watch sail from Lahaina which only had 24 people on it (normal capacity was double that) so we felt safe covid wise. Wish they had used the sail more instead of the motor but it was still a great trip supporting a great cause. Bring your mask, zoom lens, cash for drinks, and reef-safe sunscreen :)
The dolphin watch was awesome! Chris, Chris, and Corey did an amazing job! Would definitely go again!
Our family of three really enjoyed the Ocean Spirit Honolua Bay Snorkel Sail experience provided by the Pacific Whale Foundation team. The boat, snorkeling equipment, food, etc. were all a solid four stars - good quality for what you might expect from a typical dive trip. I really liked that this tour uses a catamaran power/sail boat and has a smaller group size. It felt less rushed / crazy on board and made it easier to relax and enjoy the journey. We stopped at two reef locations and saw several sea turtles in both (awesome!) plus tons of other aquatic life. Breakfast on the way out and lunch before heading back in. Sailed a bit of the way back as well which was really enjoyable.Im giving an extra star because (i) customer service and experience was exceptional, (ii) the crew was incredibly knowledgeable and it was great to learn from the onboard naturalists, and (iii) the costs of the tour help support the Pacific Whale Foundations mission to protect the ocean and inspire environmental stewardship (amazing!).
I had a beautiful rare whale watching experience seeing 7 plus Wales along the cruise and was having a great time until 1 Captain Josh threaten to call the police over finishing our drinks with our mask down it was incredibly unprofessional and he escalated the situation way too far without even talking to us or giving us any fair warning first in front of our children. Dont get me wrong the whales were really cool but Captain Josh was incredibly unprofessional and rude. I would recommend this company but not captain josh or the odyssey boat for any future inquires.
I have done this twice and would do it again. Try to avoid windy days. You can usually book same day even during the busy season. They find whales fast. They cant take you too close by law, but if the whales get curious, they will swim up to the boat -they call it getting mugged then. by law, the boat cant move. We got mugged the first time I did the trip - the whales swam right under us - it was incredible and I saw a breach from a distance. The second time there were lots of whale tales and a baby whale breached. You dont get this every time - but I guess frequently enough that I got 2 out of 2. Your iphone may not be enough to get a good picture - youll want a camera with a good zoom.
The most epic whale watching experience well probably ever have. Saw a group of 15 or so fighting for a female, and had 2 swim directly under the boat and surface 20 yards from the boat. Amazing experience and excellent crew.
My wife and I did the sunset dinner cruise. We did premium seats to sit at our own table. Service was good. Nice crew. Food was nothing special and as other have stated, small portions. The views are great and the cruise is calm. We didnt get a sunset but a little through the clouds. Relaxing and overall not a bad time.
Did the dinner cruise two years ago. Got a two for one with whale watching as well (March). Did the snorkeling this year (April) at the island of Lanai. Found some whales at a distance, but the spinner dolphins came right up to the boat. Breakfast and lunch were provided. Very basic. But we didnt sign up for the food. Overall, will continue to use them in the future. Plus, the funds go to a good cause.
Professional and knowledgeable guides. Comfortable seats with big windows and an observation deck. The crew took us right to a pod of 9 large whales. Couldnt have asked for more.
We had an amazing experience. The crew are knowledgeable and professional. We felt safe on the boat and in the water. It was well worth the price we paid and it goes towards a non-profit organization to conserve and protect our oceans and wildlife.
In honor of COVID and maintaining social distance they assign you a seat so unless you’re on the top deck you’ll have limited views. Oddly, despite this precaution and constant reminders to wear masks the crew made no effort to enforce mask usage (a group of college kids in the enclosed portion of the cabin kept their masks around their necks as soon as we left port). Other than that fun and we saw plenty of whales.
Excellent trip. Whales were active and crew wonderful!
Wonderful trips whale watching and snorkeling. The captains and crew were fun and informative, and gave our group terrific service. On top of all that all the proceeds go to their non-profit whale conservation efforts
We took a dinner cruise with the Pacific Whale Foundation on our honeymoon. It was a very nice and romantic evening. The staff were all very helpful and friendly!
Great crew that provides a fantastic experience. Attention to safety while assuring a fun, family oriented activities. An organization with a focus on preserving and protecting our whales and oceans. They always make you feel like family.
The dinner cruise was a joke. Do not waste your money. It was more of a ferry than a cruise. The tables were extremely small and wobbly, causing stuff to be spilled. The waiter literally was weird about giving us more silverware. The price is way too high for what they gave. The food was bad too. Don’t waste your time either it honestly ruined our night and I felt it was a bit of a catfish. They also were late to picking us up. Everyone was waiting around not knowing what was happening.
Had a great time with PWF folks.Whale watching is $39 per pax (they offered the 10% online booking for walk in too)Took up 2pm slot and went on board with about 50 pax on a fairly large ferry. On board serving of alcoholic drinks was $5 and chips were $2.The guys explained in detail all about whale and conservation keeping us entertained and information sharing.Whole sail session was about 1.5hr and we saw about 4 whales doing its breaching and flip.Overall enjoyed the session very well.
Great employees are all marine biologists and super friendly. We saw 3 humpback whales a male, female and baby in the off season. The female and baby crossed almost under us and the male breached 3 times and surfaced around us multiple times on our snorkel trip. Also spinner dolphins throughout the 5 hour trip. We took this picture the last breach.
It would’ve been ALRIGHT if we didn’t have to wait 40 mins in the scorching sun to dock when we arrived at Maui from snorkeling in Lanai. Snorkeling finished early because water was cold and corals were mostly bleached (not the tours fault, of course). But we arrived 11:50am at the dock in Lahaina and had to wait until 12:30pm to dock; they let multiple boats dock before us. The least they could do was explain why we were waiting so long, or maybe free drinks. Everyone was sleeping in the boat when the sun was at its peak. Service was ok. Some were nice enough, others were snobbish. I would recommend snorkeling in Honolua Bay which is free, or renting a smaller boat to go to Lanai. TRUST ME. Food was the bare minimum. Sad 🥲
Wife and I signed up for dolphin watch and snorkel. We did get to see dolphins but after boating to 2 or 3 different snorkel spots they decided that we couldnt snorkel at all. Very disappointing. Last day in Maui and they took 4+ hours away from us.
I wanted to stay away from the “big boat” snorkeling tours while here. The idea of another hundred plus people didn’t sound fun at all. Our trip on the “Wild Side” was just that. Smaller boat, less than 40 people, 3 man/woman crew. Took a little longer than normal to find our first spot and we didn’t get to see any turtles. That said we had a random encounter with a Manta Ray and they literally stopped the boat in the middle of the ocean and let some of just jump in. That doesn’t happen on the big boats. Being able to snorkel on the backside of the crater was pretty awesome as not something many get to do. Finally getting to the crater itself when everyone else was gone was the icing on the cake. We had the place to ourselves. My only gripe is I wish the boat had some shade but hey, that’s minor.
Really great dinner cruise. Was sad the sunset sucked but the cruise was really fun, the meal and the drinks were great.we would do it again!!
Awesome experience with the Fam! We got to see a mother and calfs! Recommended 🐳
Cheap tours with experts. Saw whales up close. Will definitely post pics when I get it out of my camera
The most smooth whale watching trip Ive ever been on. The Ocean Spirit crew was awesome and their musician David, and I even did a duet!
Love the fact they take a photo of your travels before you leave. The crew are well informed and super fun.
We had a amazing experience! Food was good, staff was very kind, friendly and knowledgeable! Definitely recommend
Great cruise and the store was very nice and organized. Great place to take a sunset cruise.
Great tour, we saw about a dozen whales up close! We really enjoyed it.The staff was amazing, my 3yo was afraid of getting on the boat and one of the staff members just gave him a bag of m&ms right from the bar, which solved the problem immediately 😉🤩
Another pac whale adventure went on the dolphin cr6on the catamaran. Went all the way over to Lanaii. Such a cool trip.
Took the trip out to Lanai. Great staff, food, boat ride. Captain pulled up to dolphins swimming along a few times. Never seen dolphins in the wild before.
Awesome whale watching with knowledgeable marine naturalists.
Another wonderful adventure with Pacific Whale. So many whales.
Wonderful trip. Great people running it.
We saw whales maybe 30 times during our trip this morning. Nice boat and friendly crew.
