Jim had restored and set up my 1980’s Epiphone Strat (yeah, i said it) quick and at a reasonable price! Now my guitar plays and sounds better than it ever has. I’ll let this man set up any of my guitars, any day. Thanks, Jim!
Jim is outstanding. Extremely knowledgeable and always willing to help. Worth the 240 mile round trip. Thanks Jim.
Advanced guitar is one of the coolest music stores I’ve ever been to. Not only do Jim and Shawna provide top-notch repairs, but the store itself has a number of guitars and amps that are amazing.Jim worked on two guitars and a Mesa Boogie amp. On one guitar I wanted the action lowered further after the initial work was done. I simply brought it back to Jim and he fixed it for me while I waited. Also, this was done for no additional charge. As mentioned the store is full of vintage guitars and amps. Rather than going to Guitar Center, check out the inventory at Advanced.I can’t praise this place enoughDo yourself a favor and go there
I dropped off my guitar about 2 and half months ago and I haven’t heard nothing since
Not only are they exceptionally nice people the quality of the work went above and beyond my expectations. People who actually care about your guitar and for what they charged I live in la and I know I could have spent way more here. Highly suggest
Worst experience ever, it’s been 2 months since I dropped off my guitar to get it fixed and haven’t heard anything back from this place
People beware....brought my guitar in for a minor repair. Kept calling about when it was ready and got continuously LIED to. 2.5 months went by and the guitar wasnt even started. Picked up my guitar without it being even touched and he kept my money. Really disappointed.
Just dropped my new guitar off for a setup, after meeting Jim, I feel 100% confident that when i pick it up it will be done right, and if not they will make it right! It was a pleasure to visit this place, it is smaller than the big box places, however, it is a friendly and inviting place, and the personal level of service you receive is second to none, everyone makes you feel right at home. Looking forward to visiting this place for all my future guitar needs!
Great place. They treat you like family here. Vintage and New equipment. Knowledgeable on repairs and equipment.
Nice guy and some nice vintage amps!
Went in to get a guitar repaired for a friend and I know NOTHING about guitars. But they helped me out no problem at all. Explained everything along the way and were really friendly and personable about it. Gorgeous guitars in there as well. Good stuff!
This review is long overdue. I took my sons Bugera Bass Amp to this shop a few months ago because the manufacturer was of no help at all. The couple who own and operate the shop were very friendly and accommodating. They took their time addressing your concerns and laying out what the plan of action for your equipment. After two weeks and still no help from Bugera they were very honest and told us they were not able to repair the amp.I would highly recommend this store to anyone who requires their musical instruments serviced.
Jim is great. The big box music stores, no one has time to chat with you or really give you anything but a sales pitch. Jim takes the time and is incredibly knowledgeable. He does what he says hes going to do...does it on time...and usually does a little more! Totally pro. He has fixed or done maintenance on several of my guitars and I plan to bring others to him. Also, his shop is like a grandfathers attic of great instruments and, unlike other places, youre welcome to play them and try them out. The good ones arent out of reach or locked behind a glass case! Thanks for taking care of my babies, Jim!
Stopped in for the first time met with Jim and friend William. Highly recommend using Jims services. I wish him the best and look forward to seeing future projects. Including investing...
Highly Recommend! Jim gave me a new set up and now my guitar plays like a dream! It may be a small business but dont be fooled. Its run by professionals who have the skills and expertise and also deliver when promised. Thank you!
Friendly great work. Definitely will visit again. Great staff.
Jim is just an outstanding luthier. He has been very good to us. I think every guitar we own has come from his shop with one exception. Some great vintage amps too.
The best in town. When you want it done right, Advanced Guitar is the solution. Jim and Shawna are the best.
Mr James Poisson is super friendly! Nice little store if you like that kind of vibes, lots of rare and old-school guitars! I recommend it !
The owner is super nice and gave me a free gig bag set up and strings when I got a new guitar. He knows his stuff and is not a dick like the big shops.
I have a number of amps that I have bought on e-bay, They worked but were never quite right. I took them to Advanced and within 2 days I had them back and they sounded awesome. Much better than they have sounded since I bought them. Thanks Guy.
I was in the market for a cheap strat and stumbled across this shop. Great service and a great experience. And lots of guitars at great prices.
Ive brought several very sick acoustic guitars to Jim at advanced guitars and he has brought them back to life and they are playing phenomenally!!!!! Recently, I brought my completely unplayable Rickenbacker that Ive taken to everybody (from ed roman to gary moon) Jim worked his magic on it, rebuilding a new fingerboard. Now the guitar plays like a dream! I recommend Jim @ ADVANCED GUITARS for all of your guitar needs.
I took my Gold Tone BG250F bluegrass banjo to Jim at Advanced Guitar because of a longstanding intonation problem that had be driving me crazy for a long time. Jim diagnosed the problem as being the result of a faulty bridge (even though I had it custom made) and an improperly tuned head.Jim made me a new bridge, tune the head (something I had read about but could not do myself), adjusted the action and filed the worn frets down. The resulting tone of the banjo was brighter and crisper with more sustain and without the annoying, note deadening overtones. The adjusted action also made it much easier to play. I would highly recommend Advanced Guitar for your instrument repairs and alterations.
This guy really friendly and he does good work has worked with lots of projects. He just a gentleman that is passion about what he does and he will do it right and has successes cause of it.
Excellent Guitar setup and repair. Highly recommend.
Jim Poisson is a great guitar tech. Known him since when he worked at Mahoneys. Even though its been a while I came across his website. He set up my Les Paul Triumph bass and converted my Ibanez into a fretless. Cant say enough about the guy, great tech and good work ethics. Always willing to send work his way...
Good ppl. Good prices.
Jim is a gr8 guitar repairman, salesman, only person I trust with my custom fender strat and advice for my guitars
Highly recommend the staff and service! They treat you right and are a persnalized small, knowledgable business thats cares. Not too many of these guys left anymore!Such a beautiful vintage amp selection, will make your head spin.If you need any music related items, try this place first. I will be back!!
I have a very old instrument, an Octophone from the 1930. I brought it to Advanced Guitar so they could have a look. The neck needed a reset, among some other issues. They said it could be fixed. It took some time but when I went to pick it up, I was amazed. The neck was perfect and all the other issues were fixed. Now it plays beautifully and sound great. If you have an instrument that you care about, this is the place to get the job done right at a reasonable cost too. Advanced Guitar is number one for me. You wont be disappointed. Jimi is a great luthier and he takes care of all my instruments. Be going to Advanced for many many years. So give them a call.
Fantastic staff and service
Top quality work. Very knowledgeable...
Super cool place, great repairs, great prices on new and used.
Ugh. Thats the perfect word to describe this sad excuse of a place. So my story begins when I wanted to replace the PUs in my Strat with a 59 and distortion by Seymour Duncan. Id never actually been a customer but my bandmate/friend and I went in back in 2008 to get a pearly gates installed in his strat. It was a perfect job and only 20 bucks. So going in I was pretty confident till I went online and read the reviews. Some were good, more were worse. And unfortunately I didnt let that deter me. So I go in and let him know whats up and during our conversation he asked if Id like a coil tap; I said yes but I didnt want to have a funny little switch on board, but he suggested I get a push/pull knob so itd be hidden and still old school-looking. Of course, I asked if he could put it in and he said yes. He said yes, even though Im looking at my guitar right now with the exact switch I was talking about previously. What the hell? I also asked for a nut replacement but because what was basically gonna be like a 7 to 10 day job turned into two months, I just wanted to get the guitar right there. And the nut wasnt even installed!! Even worse, as soon as I go to pay I pull out my card and he has the nerve to say Hey man, I cant take that, I thought I told you that. Obviously, that never happened. >:( This really would not have been an issue if I didnt have to get to work that day; so I go across the street, get the cash, go back, get the guitar and say goodbye to this place forever. Its really a shame, because this place was very outstanding in the eastern side of Vegas and Jim did really do a good job fixing the crappy job I did of cutting out the holes and giving me a new string nut and fixing my loose tuner; but I cannot express my disappointment for it. Long story short, if you like getting the run around for two or more months, then by all means, come here. I do not recommend this place to anyone except Jims friends.
I had a cheap schecter I had bought and I found it to be ok for a first guitar. These guys did a set up for 65.00 bucks and they did an excellent job. The turn around was a little longer than originally quoted, but it was completely worth it. Im not sure if I need to even buy another guitar now. Im loving the way it plays. Do yourself a favor and take your guitar here. You wont regret it.
I myself am not a guitar guy but...THIS PLACE IS AWFUL!!! My brother had his Fender Stratocaster brought in to install two humbuckers (Iron Maiden style), a new nut and a push pull single coil something... LOOK! just take it from us and everyone else who got burned by this place. What should of taken a week of dedicated work took two months and the guitar wasnt even finished the humbuckers but I think that was only because my brother already did the busy work of cutting a bigger cavity in the body and a bigger entrench on the pickguard for the humbuckers, They the broke the tone knob more then it already was, and put the wrong switch in among other things that I cant remember right now.The main point is dont go here its not worth it.
Amazing work, time after time, I have taken my instruments to Advanced Guitar and the staff and owner have always been great. I have over 32 guitars and after going thru most everyone in las vegas reputable, I landed on jims door step pleading for help with a few real problem child guitars, Impossible fixes made possible by Jim and Billy (RIP he now works for Circe Du Soile...lol) 90% of the time jim nails it on the first fun sometimes things still need a little more tweaking but He always supports his work and always comes thru with flying colors. Thanks Jim and Advanced Guitar for Keeping my instruments on Stage and performing like a pro. Bruce Sneath
