A little out-of-the way but a good neighborhood spot. I got a latté, cornmeal shortbread, and key lime tart. Coffee was excellent. Shortbread was wonderfully crunchy but tender, buttery and mildly sweet. Tart was nicely done, but not nearly enough key lime. Graham cracker crust was very crunchy but way too thick, about a quarter inch. Taste of Graham overpowered the filling. Suggest a cookie crust would be better, and much, much thinner.

We havent been here in two years and it was fabulous as ever, with lots of choices and all our faves. The almond teacakes were crunchy on the outside and dense tender inside, the donut muffins had the perfect cinammon crunch and the croissants were Paris worthy. And service of course was friendly and accommodating!

From someone that has worked in the coffee/pastry biz for almost 20 years, this is high quality stuff folks!Croissant and scones are cooked perfect and thats harder to do than most realize. Nice flaky carmelized outer layers while soft delicate middle. Nice balance between savory and sweet offerings.Maple latte was 10.0. Service top notch. Care goes into the baking and you can tell!

Sublime - just dont get there too late or the tea cakes (mini cake financier of sorts) will be gone. Give yourself a treat and ask for a coffee (cortado anyone?) and pair it with a butter croissant. A baking team and staff dedicated to excellence - and it shows.

My fiancé and I just moved to Montpelier and live down the street from this bakery. If you take the time to find parking it is well worth it. I can’t remember the last time I had such delicious baked goods! And consistent. We’ve been twice and tried 4 different deserts and I can’t express how delicious they all were. The donuts alone have me coming back. Once you go you can see why the prices might be considered “high” they’re worth it. Don’t get me started on the coffee! I always think I want a larger latte but then I start drinking and the espresso is so rich, nothing like the chains. Classic Vermont small business that is worth the hype.

They have THE MOST amazing donuts EVER! Only on Sunday mornings, hit it just right at 9:00-9:15am. So yummy! Ive had the browned butter, cinnamon sugar, maple glazed and vanilla glazed. They are outstanding and good sized. A little crispy on the outside and warm and spongey on the inside. Perfect texture.

If youre in Montpelier & in search of the best cup of coffee, espresso drink, or pastry...be willing to come just a few blocks north of the center of town, up Elm Street (or Rte 12 N). I promise you that this little bakery will be more than worth the trip. And who doesnt love finding a treasure off the beaten path? The coffee beans are quality, the espresso drinks are piping hot, and the foam atop a latte, for example, is thick & deep. (Underdelivery of these cafe essentials are my biggest pet peeves, but at Birchgrove I never have to worry.) Scones disappear fast in the morning, & cookies disappear fast in the afternoon. In addition to the expected cafe items, Birchgrove also offers things like sandwiches, ice cream, and has a well deserved STELLAR reputation for their custom cakes. Its also a great place to grab a pie or two around holiday time!To top it all off every single person on staff is friendly & well trained. They aim to please with their heavenly baked goods & top-notch coffee drinks, and they indeed hit their mark! Birchgrove is a great place for your morning or afternoon coffee ritual, and youll find many regulars there engaged in same...which is always a great tacit recommendation of any place...

One of the best bakeries in New England. I travel all over New England for work and I can say that their desserts were a huge help in closing in multiple deals and had clients email me weeks later to ask where the treats were from as they were craving them. They also make an awesome cappuccino and the staff is super friendly. I stop in every time I am in the area.

Now that weve moved I am constantly craving their cupcakes, cookies, pretzels, ice cream sandwiches.... need I say more? Ive lived from one coast to the other- 4 states in total and Birchgrove bakery still stands out amongst many other great eateries.
