The Backyard Naturalist is a great little shop! I have so many things to benefit you and your love of nature! The staff are very friendly and helpful in picking out just the right things for your yard and nature friends.

Ive been shopping at The Backyard Naturalist for a few years now. I regularly get birdseed from them, and with the pandemic their contact free pick ups have been great. I often will also browse their collection of Tree Free greeting cards, but wasnt able for the past year due to reasonable restrictions in their tight space. For my most recent birdseed pick up I asked if theyd just toss a dozen random cards in, so I was pleasantly surprised when they moved the card racks to the front door temporarily for me to browse them quickly. I wore my mask and they spritzed my hands with hand sanitizer before I started picking cards. This was a clear example of above and beyond wonderful customer service. They are doing a great job staying safe and serving their customers as best as they can. Their website is very clear about their COVID-19 safety protocols, and I appreciate them all.

I go here for the food we put out for the birds in our back yard. The staff is knowledgeable, and very helpful! BUT....they also have a great selection of gifts and jewelry! Gifts for all occasions, and reasonably priced! Love their selection of cards such as birthday, anniversary, and so much more! I recommend Back Yard Naturalist very highly!

Today in the evening I went to this store after I went to Dunkin Donuts. I thought the store looked very inviting from the outside and so I decided to take a look inside. I was greeted by the man at the register who I believe may be the owner of the store. I told the man I wanted to take a look around and he said it was fine. The inside of the store was as inviting as the outside and I took a look at the books, soaps, kites, and all the other cool things inside. I noticed that the man at the register began to stare at me while I was looking at the items in the store. I then asked him a question about the incense he was selling and asked about how long they burned for. He wasn’t able to tell me and said “they burn for as long as they burn for” in a negative attitude. I thought his answer was a bit rude but ignored it and since I wanted to buy the incense I decided what the heck, I went to purchase some incense and a base for the incense. When I got to the register I remembered I left my wallet in my car which was parked at the Dunkin Donuts lot. I let the man at the register know I was coming right back and was going to get my wallet out the car. I walked over to the car and the man comes outside of the store. I found it odd, almost like he was following me out... when I looked back he said “did you think I was going to believe that?” He said this in a haughty and entitled tone. I was appalled. I couldn’t believe that I was treated so poorly. I assume he believed I wasn’t going to return to the store. Or maybe he thought I couldn’t afford it and was judging me based on my appearance (I am a Latina woman). I can honestly say I have never been treated so rudely. After this experience I will not be returning to the store. I can buy some incense else where ! Part of owning a business is representing the business well and this means treating your customers with respect. Even though it was a cheap purchase, I expect to be treated well regardless of how much I am spending. And just because someone walks off the lot to their car doesn’t mean they are not returning. I am not sure if this man is racist but this is what it looked like to me.

I love this little store! Ive bought garden flags, mailbox covers, bird houses, earrings, wind chimes etc. Its a great place to buy small gifts when you want something just a bit different. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

This is my place to buy quality bird seed, or to get any supplies for creating a bird habitat. The store employees or owners always give thoughtful consultation as to your needs and costs. I have bought heated bird bath, bird feeders, window decals to keep birds from flying into them, as well as other small and beautiful gift items for friends. Convenient and homey location.

Just got the squirrel buster bird feeder at this store for $35. I’m amazed by how many new species I’m seeing compared with my other feeders! The squirrels are complacently eating the seeds that fall to the ground. Birds and family are very happy. Thanks guys!Edit: The store itself provides a good shopping experience. They have good products and prices, and are instituting an efficient curbside service for clients during the COVID crisis.There’s a male employee working there that is scaring customers away. I am going to assume he is the same employee responsible for the poor experience detailed by Grace Olivieri in another review, because this employee has been short with me before. Today he snapped at me and my two young kids unprovoked. We traveled thirty minutes to his place of business to support them, and came today after they cancelled our original pickup time on Monday.Please don’t let him interact with customers in the future. The other employee was professional and courteous. But this man’s demeanor is completely out of line.

What I love about the Backyard is the ownership and staff...they are always welcoming and dote on my grandson. He is a budding rockhound and they price their diverse offerings do he is able to build a great collection of quality specimens. All staff are friendly, dont rush you send make you remember why neighborhood businesses are vital. As a retired Geologist I could buy on line but my experience is that online orders never look like their photos and on a price to value comparison, the Backyard wins hands down 😀😊😉😚

A unique and friendly place! Lots of good advice and resources for getting in closer to nature. Lots of bird feeders, bird food and books on birds. They also have wind chimes, bird baths, and temperature gauges for outdoor use. Also gemstones and fossils!

Incredibly overpriced typical selection jammed into 1 level of a very old and small house. With so many garden centers and stores carrying bird supplies, its hard to justify the visit.. My advice, utilize the room currently used to store the banners for more items - like kites, weather stations, binoculars, yard/nature games, etc.. Its in your name - Backyard Naturalist, be more than just bird food and houses (and banners for some reason)..

If you like shopping in a friendly place with attentive and knowledgeable staff, BYN is for you! If you prefer the big box stores or enjoy walking the aisles of one of the impersonal hardware chains searching in vain for assistance just to save a few pennies, you might not appreciate all of the joys to be found here. BYN is the best!

Very friendly and helpful service, a lot of seed, suet and feeders to choose from. Some of the stuff is pricier than I think it needs to be, but overall I really like having a good bird store nearby.
