Love Hargis. Great store. I do all my own repair work, but they have good deals sometimes. The thing about buying an electric guitar, is that you need to play it first. You need to check the action first and foremost. If your strings are too far off the fretboard, then you are going to have a bad first experience if you are just starting to learn.Good job Hargiss. πŸ‘

John is ALWAYS very friendly and helpful. Both he and his wife are wonderful people who make you feel welcome there. His custom guitars are not only some of the very best quality made, they are each works of art.

Dont go anywhere else. Just dont. Shop local buy local or whatever the hashtag and radio ads keep saying. You wont get better service from a better couple anywhere around. Not at Deitz, Ground Floor (which is still a really good shop; but, Hargiss is exceptional), and definitely not at the Center. The doggo and kitty catten at Hargiss are just an added bonus. If you want humor in an atmosphere conducive to a guitar buying EXPERIENCE go to Hargiss Stringed Instruments...everywhere else is just a store.

Coolest guitar shop Ive ever seen. Some new but mostly used/vintage instruments and a lot of custom builds. The shop is located in a converted carpet warehouse attached to a vintage theater. Very interesting place and the best selection of vintage guitars in Omaha.

Today I brought in a primitive flute called an aulos that I bought on Etsy. I had taken it to three other shops, all of which turned me away, because they werent familiar with the instrument. Something was going wrong with the reed, which prevented it from vibrating.John looked at it, gave it to me to show him how I felt it should work, eyed the mechanism for a few seconds and then made a minor adjustment with some tools. Fixed. He then showed me what was happening and taught me fix it. The quick fix demonstrated a breadth of knowledge. On top of my own experience, the shop was very cool. They have a nice selection of guitars, plus there were several other unique instruments you wouldnt find anywhere else.If I have any other instrument needs, I would not hesitate to go back.

Oh hes all right. Once I brought John Hargiss an 8-string tenor ukulele from which the bridge had unattached. He had me come in the shop about 2 weeks after no calls from him and proceeded to have me fix the instrument myself with his tools. This took all day and he really didnt actually help very much. He kept leaving the store and asking me to answer any phone calls. He also had me re-string a few basses. When all was said and done, and my Saturday was over, he tried to charge me... a lot.Not to mention the bridge eventually popped off again, despite the fact I do take good care of my instruments.

John is an amazing luthier and simply a great person. Not only is he the type of person youd enjoy hanging out with, but he also does some exquisite repair work on vintage acoustic instruments. I can spend hours derping around his shop as I always either end up playing something unique and wonderful, or I end up learning something even more unique and/or wonderful.Beyond reasonable prices for killer work from the hands of an artist.
