Kind staff, clean and organized efficiently curated products in each aisle. They also have a surprising variety of specialty skin and bath products that I enjoy shopping for at natural and health food stores. So happy this co-op exists.
Third bad customer service experience this year!I kept wanting to give them another chance. Finially DONE.I am a person who loves supporting organic, local, and small farms, was hoping today’s mistake was by a newbie…but she said she’d been working there for 4 months. This wouldn’t have happened in the old days of Mariposa. Was looking for an item that was out of stock on the shelf, asked a sales associate if she could check the back to see if they had more that wasn’t on the floor. I checked in with her 3x over the course of 25 mins. Nobody came out to help me. Then I asked at the cash register if I could get someone to further assist and was sent to the last register (a guy who started two weeks ago) and was just as clueless as I was. Needless to say nobody ever checked for my missing item and I wasted 30 mins of my life inquiring about it.
There were so many vegan options !! My mind was blown by how beautiful everything was set up and the prices couldnt be beat !! Plus its a co-op and my first one that I had ever been to.
This place is awesome! Lots of vegan options, very accommodating mgmt, store is always clean and covid conscious policies. I try to shop here when I can
So far my favorite novelty store. They have everything you didnt know you needed and then some. I just wish there were more locations.
Good grocery store . not large but a good place for organic produce and different kind of food. Easy checkout friendly staff
Small but diverse selection of products including organic, non-dairy, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options across produce, frozen foods, canned & bulk dried goods. Sells nationwide and local brands. Discounts available for co-op members.
It’s like a Whole Foods! I love coming here, they offer a lot of organic/vegan and locally sourced food products. Customer service is great and they have an amazing bulk section in the back for grains, nuts and coffee.
Simple sandwich was messed up. Wanted just a plain Turkey and pepper Jack sandwich. I got 4 layers of mayo in between along with a bunch of other condiments...
Wonderful as always. Quality products at reasonable prices. And You know Your doing something good.
Small footprints Co Op grocery store with fresh organic produce and good selection of food
High prices. Weird inventory. I spent a comical amount of time this Sat. night waiting (30+min) to get in, only to spend another 30min waiting for the single cashier they had. Took him over a minute to ring up a single fruit. Was comical.Only go here as a last resort.
They have bulks herbs! Not a huge selection but I was expecting nada so this was a pleasant surprise. As a local Ayurvedic Practitioner/Herbalist its good to know that I can get basics if I run out and need to fill an order asap. It was really easy to get a member(owner)ship, too --- I like that I can pay the equity overtime ($25 every quarter for 2 years), and cash out when I leave. Prices are on pay with most other specialty organic grocers, and the sales are often generous. Ive shopped at co-ops in many different cities and the prices can become inaccessible. I think Mariposa does a good job at keeping things as reasonable as they can with what little purchasing power I imagine they have (think about the wholesale deals Whole Foods can get as a mega-coporation and be real when you look at Ms prices!).
Large selection local organic food market. Great place but not cheap good sales.
Mariposa is great! It provides quality food at reasonable prices for west Philadelphia!
They are doing a wonderful job of keeping folks safe and the groceries moving.
Really neat little store. Can get lots of eco-friendly organic stuff here but it costs more, as should be expected
Great products, very clean, good service.
Mariposa is a pretty standard food co-op in that it has a limited selection of mostly-organic stock items and it’s prices are a little higher than your average grocery store. That said, I am always down to support a local business, especially one that hires from the neighborhood like Mariposa does. I’ve always found the staff at Mariposa to be kind and helpful, and Mariposa definitely has the best fresh produce I can get without having to drive anywhere. I love living near Mariposa and am happy to spend my money there when I do.
Good neighborhood option
Great quality of foods. Could use more variety in some areas. Employees could be a bit nicer, considering it is a neighborhood joint. Thank so much for your reply to my review. I will definitely be back shopping.
Really great place. Just wish they had a water dispenser to refill your bottle containers. It would make life so much easier.
Not a great selection. Pricey.
Love the quality, hate the prices.
Little expensive but great things
A royal gentrification station (take it how you want.) However, the staff are really hardworking and passionate people so if you must go, relish in the fact that the high prices help pay them and support local businesses. Really nice bulk section.
Good selection. Fruit is sometimes disappointing for a co-op. Go to clark park farmers market for those instead.
Staff was very hospitable and courteous. Posses a good of knowledge of products in the store. Prices were fair and store was clean.
Hard as Hell to find but really works.
This is a great local speciality market! They are community focused; a percentage of proceeds goes towards housing assistance programs for homeless or displaced individuals, and they offer membership opportunities which also benefit the community.I like Mariposas grocery selection too there are a myriad of vegan options to choose from.
My wife and i have been members for a couple years, so can say confidently that this place is not only well maintained and managed, but consistently so. Expect what you would from a good co-op (no separate pharmacy or seafood department), but a little extra in how meticulously their inventory is managed.
Staff is top-notch! Bulk department is the best ever for selection and prices. The produce is priced as most organic and or local produce is; its always fresh and great quality. The co-op deals are great, but sales are hot and miss as far as savings. Staff always has great recommendations for things if youre looking for something but arent sure what. Cashiers are mostly great, but arent always particularly helpful to those with invisible disabilities who need assistance with the check-out process.
Lots of good vegan options, but they have a real problem with moldy or rotting produce. I have this problem every time I buy produce here, with a variety of foods - apples, onions, peppers, grapes, etc.
Nice shop, a little bit expensive but good quality items.
Very exspensive. Cost me over 10 for 2 things
So cool that there is a good co-op now in West Philly. If I lived there Id shop there every day or all the time and join as a member. Ive been a member Weavers Way coop all my life and its been so important in my lifelong love of food and health. Co-ops offer that rather than just places to shop for food.
Great selection of food and vegetables.
Nice small grocery store. A good bit of vegan/vegetarian selections. Prices are very similar to Whole Foods. If you looking for cheaper some items there arent for you. However, lots of nicely price products. Great location
Great place with great product and great people. Quite some choice in terms of organic produce.
Nice store.
Delicious😝😝😝 i love that place
I love this co-op it took me 3 times to shop there before anyone offered me any literature about it being a co op which totally sucked however you can buy so many healthy food and skin care products there! They also support Black owned products which will keep me loyal to their store. Its much closer for me to go to than all the way to Trader Joes or whole foods but very similar in variety and services the only issue is its now in a gentrified area and the new hipsters are entitled rude and many times racist as if the Black people dont belong shopping in a store placed directly in a once heavily thriving Black neighborhood that still contains many Black businesses. Im not sure why they behave like this with such a diverse amount of staff in that store. Nonetheless still make this your choice!
I love this place! Love it so much I became an Owner! They also have a Good For All program that allows ACCESS card holders to become owners at a discounted rate! You will also get 10% off your purchase all the time PLUS whatever owner deals that is available! So please go, check it out and get owning! Lol
Great place to shop for fresh produce. Prices are reasonable and been a member has helped us to save money. The quality of the product are high and with a variety offers for organics products. Staff members are great!!
I generally like this place, but when you are going to buy anything from the bulk section that you have to weight on your own, I recommend that you make sure that you are charged with the correct price.I just bought a small amount of spice which should have cost $1.20 according to their price tag ($2.51 per ounce and I was buying 0.03 lb based on the measure they had at the bulk section). Not only one but TWO cashiers tried to convince me that it cost over $9. They seemed that they did not understand how the measuring system of their own store worked...
Top quality products with top quality staff in a top quality store. It lets me keep my conscience when purchasing groceries and other household items. Its pricier than other spots, and worth it.
Good supermarket. A good selection of fruits and vegetables, large selection of cheeses. There are many natural body care, shampoos, creams. Friendly sellers. Before visiting this place will catch bag. Save a couple of cents. For paper shopping bags have to pay extra.
The atmosphere was very good! Ive never been to a co op grocery store with my children and they loved it! I just brought some rolls and a loaf of bread. I enjoyed it. Ill be backUpdate: I have one suggestion, instead of air chilling their poultry, it should be frozen. I just purchased a pack of wings and thighs; opened it and it smelled sour! Im not sure letting the chicken sit in its own juices is a smart idea. I threw the food away, now I need to come up with an alternative plan for dinner. I still love this market, just gotta do better with your poultry. You dont want to make anyone sick.
Refreshing business model, shalom .
It is pretty good if you are vegan. Howeeeeevvver...those prices though...? They dont play. Oh and the associates are pretty friendly. I want to support neighborhood co-ops but, $5 for almond milk?? 👿
Good local grocery store with friendly staff and top quality products. However, it has a slightly limited selection of dry goods, fresh meat, and fresh fish. Additionally, while some of the products can be reasonable, others, particularly the produce, are quite expensive. Which is justified, given that everything is fresh, local, and organic, just a bit out of budget for frequent shopping.
Mariposa can be expensive but they are a small market which thrives on ethics over money. I respect that a lot. They also support many social justice matters and the staff represents what they believe in. They are very friendly to all walks of life and you will comfortable in there regardless of how you dress or look. They carry a nice variety of organic products and produce.
Great great supermarket! Would definitely always go there if Id live in the area! The prices are great, cheaper than wholefoods fresh grocer and more :) produce is very fresh and high quality. They have a great selection of vegan products, including ice cream 😍
If you are in the Cedar Park neighborhood, Mariposa is a very convenient little grocery store. Its best offering is the produce- for a small store, there is a good variety of produce, and its almost all local or organic, but not too expensive. My favorite things about Mariposa are that you can buy any amount of salad greens and pay by weight, and you can buy spices the same way. Everything else in the store is also organic/local/vegan/etc., which makes it all more expensive than a regular grocery store. Its also hard to find some typical grocery items here, so it would be hard to do all of your shopping here unless you were committed to organic and local products.
The staff here is full of wonderful people, and theyve been handling the pandemic remarkably well. I had the experience of having a pretty miserable day be absolutely brightened by Marty, and if you choose to shop here I hope you will have a similar experience.
Lots of great fresh fruits and vegetables
Very inviting market..my favorite place to shop for produce!
Always clean, easy to navigate and fair prices for most items! A West Philly gem for health foods
Not bad
Terrible customer service. When I was checking out I asked if I can run back just to grab an avocado which was right behind us.... and he gave me huge sigh and said “fine” then had an attitude the rest of the transaction.... like WOW there was no need for the attitude or sigh. You guys need to hire better employees because with an attitude like that you lost me and my friends business.
This place is expensive and the most hipster store in West Philly but... its not bad. The staff is friendly and only a little condescending when you dont know what a specific herb is. The building is really cool, and they made the inside organised and and easy to get threw. I would shop there more if I could afford it.
Wonderful selection for a small local grocer. Pretty great actually. Prices are fair not excellent generally, but their bulk food section is really inexpensive. Overall a really good shipping experience. And they have Weckerlys.
Fantastic community market. A little taste of everything one needs. Great focus on local foods. Wish I had one in my hood!
I think Mariposa carries wonderful groceries that you cant find at a regular supermarket. I especially love their local produce selection and tofu from a local tofu maker. It does also offer a variety of bulk food. I gave 4 stars because some workers or cashiers lack of knowledge of the products and somewhat missing a point of working there.
Very friendly staff here!! I love this store. they have great prices on the best ingredients. you can be sure they work hard to get the most sustainable available.
Employees are so rude ... they need more training... how to talk to people ...
Cashiers are non responsive. One cashier actually left her register once we were next up only to come back once the other cashier started our transaction. No hello are you new did you find everything needed. Matter of fact she (cashier) put my reciept on top of my purchase and pushed it forward. No bag no good day. Reason for the visit was two part. I needed peppermint oil and we meaning my family were looking for ways to invest money. WE will not consider this co-op nor will we visit again.
They have a great selection of bulk spices which is the way to go if you want to save money. They also have some delicious fresh pastries which feel appropriately priced. You wont be able to find EVERYTHING here most popular items are available
Its nice to have a market in the neighborhood that supports the community
Mariposa is one of the best things to happen to Spruce Hill/Garden Court/University City since I moved into the neighborhood over 35 years ago. For organic and generally wholesome food it is unsurpassed even for the beef, chicken and bacon eating public. And you can get a Bassetts ice cream sandwich for $0.65 to eat on the way home. They have every kind of apple: some are organic, some conventional but all well priced. The store is impeccably clean and the cashiers are always friendly. The staff, likewise, are helpful and friendly. I am so grateful that it is an established part of our neighborhood.
So many local and healthy food options, excellent array of vegan items including vegan sweets. They even started showcasing a local vegan bakery Crust, whose products are delicious. I love supporting local farmers by buying produce here.
I love this place! This place offers options like traders Joe or whole foods only used from local farms and companies. They even have vegan donuts from a west Philly bakery but you have to get it early in the day before they run out of the donuts. Awesome staffs and food, i love it.
Great selection of products - open to the public and they always have items with coupons next to them!Great bulk food section as well! Spices, flour, sugar, etc.
I love Mariposa. I belong to the larger Weavers Way Co op and Mariposa generously carries over my working members discount to their store. The organic fruit section is unparalleled, with 3-4 varieties of apples, oranges etc.-cant find that anywhere else in the city and the prices are very fair. Buying unprocessed, whole foods in bulk here really stretches my familys food budget.
Very nice store - I go for the selection of food and because its convenient. The items are consistently healthy and high quality and one gets the impression that the items for sale are thoughtfuly chosen. Sometimes the people are a little stand offish - not saying theyre rude, but I dont really fit the hipster mold (no dreads, piercings, tats, etc) so theres not much of a friendly vibe and generally they wont bag your groceries, which I find a bit odd.UPDATE: Today the nice cashier bagged my stuff!!! Woo hoo. But dont expect it - it was a one-time event.
We love Mariposa for it really fits well with our dietary needs and we can walk to it.
Always have a good experience when shopping here. The staff is on point & very courteous. 👍🏾
Mariposa’s has convenient hours and the staff is friendly and helpful. The have tofu in bulk and many specialty items potentially difficult to find retail; although, in my experience, the fruit doesn’t keep long but I always buy my bananas there since they are fair trade and equal exchange! There’re gourmet coffee selection and herb nook is excellent, as well.
Things have improved over the years, yet there seem to be something missing. Hard to pin point what it is, but when you compare Mariposa to another Coop like Weavers way, then you see a huge gap. Its not just the variety of the offering, obviously the two stores are very different in size, is more about managerial choices and the use of available space. Given how West Philly is transforming, and that this is the only store of this kind, there is a lot of untouched potential (as of now, Im not sure Mariposa would survive a new trader Joes in this area, for example)
Dont have to go searching down long aisle. Everything is at your reach. Love the organic brands. Also you can become a member, which get you 10% of your grocery!!
Very charming small co-op. Lots of organic foods and an option to join as an owner/member. Located on Baltimore street in West Philly. Cant wait to go back again.
Oh ! So good! Hello Good Food 😁 Make it a day trip ! I did ~ So Good!
I wasted about $180 in this place. I gave one star for having half decent vegetables. I sent one of my employees to grab some groceries for me and he informed the workers at the store that I was switching to a vegetarian diet and could not have soy or gluten. He was rushed along and not only given products with soy in them, but seitan aka gluten isolate...the worst kind of gluten that you can get! No receipt was given to us, ergo nothing could be returned. When I called, the gentleman asked if I was a member - I told him I was considering but after this experience, NEVER. Save your money and stick with companies that have knowledgeable employees. If I just wanted random junk, I wouldve went to ShopRite or Giant.
Thomasin was so great to helping me choose beans for my soup. And another young lady helped me with the math for how vegetable stock to get and loose tea leaves. Thanks guys.
Ive been a member for over a decade. When I joined it was in a much smaller location. Over the years its lost some of its quirky charm but grown to provide many people with healthy products in an area of the city that would have none otherwise.
Wonderful staff. Responsible food brands! Pricey for certain things but great bulk supply and certain dairy/produce
Love the options they have here. My go to for healthy and gluten free ingredients for what I can’t get anywhere else!
Fresh, whole foods, locally sourced when possible. Friendly staff. Lucky to have this community-oriented business within walking distance.
Great place, fantastic value and quality food
Wonderful local store! Nice selection of organic and vegan product. They also have bread from Four World Bakery
Pandemic safety procedure well placed for the public
Friendly & helpful. Bulk foods, beautiful and often local, produce. Vegan, gluten free....a real neighborhood treasure.
I really like the bulk section. Good neighborhood coop with healthy food choices.
I love shopping at food co-op!!!! Now Im just hoping in the future that WIC will allow people shop at the co-op.P.S. BRING BACK THE BABY FORMULA!!!!!!!!
Love this place for all the healthy options available. Parking is tough so bring a friend!
I dont understand why the cashiers dont pack the food when we check out!!!. Or at least help in packing them, they just scan things and sit there talking to each other. For god sake pack the food!!!!
Great Co-op in the neighborhood. Staff well....Not the friendliest but not mean either....Just eh actually. Idont get all of my groceries here but a lot. Plus it is right down the street from a liquor store which is always a plus
Great collection of organic produce and grocery.
Great atmosphere and easy-to-shop aisles. Unevenly priced, but within the standard range for a co-op. Recommended for anyone looking for an alternative to Whole Foods.
