Came in thinking I needed a new alternator, the team at Garfield told me they could do the job in just a day. On further inspection they found the problem was a wiring harness, with the repair coming in at about 1/4 the cost of an alternator.If you like fast service and honest mechanics, this is the place to come!

A lot of places try to charge you for unnecessary parts but they fixed exactly what I needed fixed which is what I was looking for. They also gave me a loaner car for the few hrs I waited for my car to be repaired. I was very happy with their service.

Doing a great job keeping my 2005 high mileage Seqoia running great 275,000!

Brought my son’s 2008 Ford Focus in for simple front end suspension repair (tie rod, stabilizer link, and front control arm replacement) on only passenger side and left with over a $770 bill including tax. Each of three parts cost ~$150 without labor!?! Oh... and they replaced a set of lug nuts as well for ~$50. Tried to figure out how it added up so much. Maybe they did both sides? Maybe they did an alignment? No to all of these things. First and only time I will bring my car to Garfield Auto. Too bad, service seemed friendly and professional otherwise.Don’t typically write these reviews but not happy about it and don’t want to see others in same situation.

I deleted my existing review to make a new one. Ive been going here for my truck for almost 3.5 years and have gotten service on my wheel bearings, brakes, oil and new wiring. I cant tell you how grateful I am for these people. After so many times calling in over the years, half the time one of them can tell who I am just by my voice. They know their customers. Theyre friendly and are honest people who wont rip you off. I had a new wiring harness pigtail installed for my trailer. Went home, the connection was good but some of the lights werent working. Went back, told them what was happening. They did their work and when I went home to test the trailer lights, BAM! Everything worked. Solid people. They have seating and a bathroom FYI.

I had a used car inspected here. I called them en route and there was no problem getting me in immediately. The service was quick and cheaper than I expected. Most importantly, they were professional and diligent, ultimately saving me from buying what seemed like a peach but was a total lemon. There was no minced words about the situation, which I really appreciated. Dont buy this vehicle. For a person who isnt the most car savvy, I really appreciated the help!

Marc is fantastic. He took the time to explain exactly what was wrong with my car and explained each charge associated with fixing it. He got me in the next day and had my car done the same day, even though it was a massive project. Spending money fixing your car aint fun, but at least these guys get it done right the first time and for a good price.

My vehicle broke down and needed a significant repair while visiting Traverse City. Upon query from the towing service, Marc was immediately willing to look at my vehicle. As promised, he called me the next morning to advise of the extent of the repairs needed and the cost. Ultimately, I donated the vehicle instead of repairing due to high mileage, but if I lived nearby, I wouldnt hesitate to make Garfield Avenue my go to for automotive service. Jeff and the guys are the best. honest and accommodating you can trust what they say in their estimates and they are great at working around your schedule.As a former mechanic that cant do many of his own repairs anymore I always agree with and trust their estimates as if I had done them myself.They never try to sell you things you dont need but will always tell you things you need to watch out for. If they see something they wont lie and make them sound catastrophic to someone not familiar with auto repair. No scare tactics telling you have to have them done today like those places that sadly give auto mechanics a bad name.You cant go wrong supporting this local family-owned business and the guys that work there. 👍👍👍

I have finally found mechanics I can trust. They have serviced my truck three times now and each time they got my truck in fast, were extremely friendly, affordable, and most importantly honest. They dont gouge you and tell you things need to be fixed when they dont need to be. I will continue to bring my vehicles to their shop when ever I am in need of a dependable mechanic. Ive found my new permanent mechanic! Brought my car in and they were able to get to it first thing the next day and repaired it that same day! The car was making all sorts of noises when it came in and it runs absolutely beautiful now! Really polite and friendly guys there and they even came in a little under the given estimate. I highly recommend them and they have definitely earned my repeat business!

Awesome place. Marc correctly diagnosed what I thought was a wheel bearing issue. It turned out to be worn tie rods, even though the symptom was a rotational noise. He worked with me on price, kept it reasonable, and fixed the problem in a few hours.

Replaced oil pressure sending unit, then put the old one back on and refunded me because that didnt fix the problem. They then quoted me for a new motor when the issue was just a bad oil filter. I would not take my vehicle to this place if an issue needed to be diagnosed, as they are just parts changers. They also left me very low on oil and didnt clean up the mess underneath.

Honestly blown away with the service I received. I already took my car to a different shop two days prior to my breakdown and was told nothing was wrong. Was towed here on short notice, He was so helpful and told me more info about how the previous owner never replaced the recall parts. Now I get to have 3 part replaced for free instead of out of pocket later down the road. Definitely recommend

GREAT experience with this shop. Had a brake issue that needed fixed same-day. They got it in, discovered a quick fix, had it back that day, and didnt charge a dime for the diagnosis. Theyve earned my business!

Visiting Traverse City from Kalamazoo. On the drive up my car started having some concerning issues. I called Garfield (on a Friday morning) after reading Google reviews as well as getting a recommendation. They had a full day schedule but were gracious enough to work my car in, diagnose it, and repair it in about 5 hours time. Everyone was very friendly, accommodating, VERY knowledgeable, thorough, and honest honest HONEST! There is one more repair needed. I’ll be in the area again in August and will wait until then to have it serviced by Garfield when I am here. Thank you so much Marc (and everyone) for your kindness and your help. You and your auto shop put me at ease and helped make an already stressful situation bearable!

In my many years driving used cars I been to a lot of mechanics in Traverse City but Garfield Auto has been the best, nicest, and most knowledgeable professionals I have had the luck to find.

Jeff, Marc and the crew at Garfield Auto Repair saved our bacon while we visited Travers City. Our breaks went bad while we were in town and the guys at Garfield took us in on the spur of the moment, diagnosed the problem, and had us on the road in under two hours. Can’t say enough about their professionalism, friendly demeanor, and work ethic. Wish they were closer than six hours away, I’d use them for all repairs.A great example of the community and people that make up Traverse City.!

Awesome mechanics! We were on a cross country road trip and on our way into Traverse City we started hearing load noises come from the front tire. I called Garfield at 5pm and they said theyd look at it first thing next morning. We had a cracked CV boot that led to leaking grease and a ruined axle. They ordered the part and installed it first thing the next morning. We were so thrilled that they got us back on the road as quickly as imaginable. They were very friendly, upfront, honest, and since everything is working well, I can only assume they did great work. I wish we lived in Traverse City so that they could become our regular mechanics! Thanks Garfield!

Marc helped me find the problem on my misfiring Audi by scanning it and he didnt even charge me. He was totally cool and patient, even when I told him I wanted to replace the part myself. So, were cruising along on our annual trip to northern Michigan when the power cuts out and were stranded. The tow truck driver was great, and gave a quick diagnosis of a failed fuel injector, based on his minimal time with the car. This wouldve thrown off our vacation budget. We dropped it off overnight with Garfield Auto. Marc and team found that the fuel line had been accidentally loosened during a recent service visit back home. They popped it back on, drove it to confirm all was good, and didnt charge me anything! They are a solid team, theyve made a customer for life, and my brother-in-law made a note of them too! In a place like Traverse City, you have a lot of mechanics to choose from, but if you didnt bring your car here, you paid too much and the work was probably mediocre. If you really want what is best for your car (just as you would your child or pet) you would bring your car to Garfield Auto.

Super fast and super solid repair work!! The charges are always very reasonable.
