On the plus side, the staff were knowledgeable, answered all questions, and got the job done quickly. However, my experience made me feel they might have lacked basic customer support skills and were vague about prices. After some research into local bike shops, I chose Broadway Bicycle School specifically because of the lower cost of a flat repair ($19) as advertised on their website (see screenshot in picture). However, it was only after all work was done that I was told the website price was outdated and now the price was $25 (actually $24.50 according to the receipt). I asked nicely if they would consider doing a write-off due to the wrong price on the website, but they not only refused (Yeah I cant. Sorry.), but also appeared rather aloof to my suggestion that they should perhaps keep the prices on their website up-to-date.On a secondary note, I was also advised to get both of my tires replaced (which I found to be a reasonable suggestion in itself). Before service, I was told each tire would be $25, but on the receipt the price for two tires came to $52, which meant the actual price per tire was $26. It was not a big difference, but in the context of the situation with flat repair, this made me feel they were playing fast and loose with prices and were not clearly communicating prices before service.I would advise anyone considering visiting Broadway Bicycle School to ask *very explicitly* about prices BEFORE they begin working on your bike. You may find the staff to be skillful bike mechanics who unfortunately lack the professionalism to make sure customers leave their shop happy and wanting to come back.
Wonderful service! It was so easy to make a booking online, and they helped me out immediately. I dropped off the bike for a quick service and it was ready later the same day.Great folks and honest prices - they even advised me against a tune up because of how my bike might not retain the changes in the winter months. Will definitely return!!
Good folks. Took the time to assess my bike and made sure I could ride away straight and proper. Thank you!
Super friendly place, even if you just stop by for a question. Different vibe than other sales-oriented, corporate feeling bike shops. Will be my primary bike shop from now on.
Came here because my chain has been jumping a lot. They fixed everything in 5 minutes without even asking for payment and were super friendly all the way through. Thanks a million times for your help! Can 100% recommend and will come again if my bike has any more substantial problems!
I love their service and have been a customer for 40 years.I admire that at least this cooperative from the 70’s has survived.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
I needed a cassette replacement. We brought just the wheel and the man at the shop was able to replace it very quickly on the beat up wheel. There was an option to replace the wheel as well seeing as it was in bad shape but we elected to just do a simple change. He was able to put a new cassette on in about 5 minutes. Would come back to this shop again for any bike problems. Schedule an appointment if you need a whole bike evaluation!
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They are always willing to chat with you to understand your bikes needs, and fix only what is necessary. Reasonable pricing. I have been their customer for over 10 years now. Highly recommended.
Broadway bicycle is the best! Friendly staff, competent repair work, and theyve gone the extra mile during the pandemic to stay open for and stock bike parts when almost none were available.
Just good/friendly people fixing bikes. What more could ask for.
My bike shop of choice since 2015. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the repairs are high-quality, welcome focus on DIY, and they have a good array of gear available for retail.
Went here for the first bike repair Ive needed since moving to the state and they were fantastic! I had a broken wheel but they were able to get me back on the road in only a few hours and my bike is once again handling smoothly. Scheduling online was super easy and the staff were nice. Will be back here again for my next maintenance!
Excellent service, friendly and professional staff! Absolutely recommendable.
Super knowledgeable and friendly! I honestly love this shop. They are socially-concious and do a ton of work to make cycling accessible to both those new to cycling and those who know whats up.
I work very close nearby, and have never had anything but am excellent experience with the shop, or these folks, even when theyre not working.I walked in to test out a Marin SC-2 at 5:50 when the shop closes at 6. I was surprised that they just let me take it for a spin, and liked the bike enough that I bought it on the spot. Ive taken it back twice for service and everything is always punctual, affordable, and done with obvious care. Ill get into taking some of their classes soon enough.
Amazing staff and excellent bikes. I rented a folding bike while I visited the area and it was great. Also my dog loves going for the treat and the staff loves dogs. My one other thing about this place is it has an alternative vibe to me and I feel VERY safe there.
They are available, pleasant, and competent. Im glad theyre in my neighborhood.
Really amazing bike shop in Cambridge with knowledgeable, friendly, down to earth staff. I came here after going to preppier bike shop that told me theyd have to keep my bike for two weeks and gave me a quote that was a lot higher than I later received at Broadway Bicycle. Ill definitely go back to Broadway if I have bike issues in the future.
Cambridge and Somerville is full of bike shops, but Broadway stands above the rest. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, who wont try to over-sell you. Unlike many bike shops the staff here treats everyone well even if you arent a big bike dork.
A true local bike shop, what a gem. I’ve been super well taken care of several times by them, and they’ve taught me several great tips along the way (ie, how to tighten brake cables when necessary). Would absolutely recommend
Very helpful, even in a pandemic they were kind and quick with service.
Best local bike shop in the area, come for the laid back and funky Cantabrigian vibe and stay for the professional and expert bike service. Dog friendly, fair prices, community oriented, what else do you need? If youre lucky you may catch a glimpse of legendary neighborhood cat Larry who occasionally stops by.
I ended up not purchasing a bike from Broadway but I did have a good shopping experience there and the place is very focused on bikes. The woman who helped me was very patient and interested in the bikes and what I was looking for. They offered to call me when sizes that fit me did come available. I opted to purchase a different model bike from a different store but would visit Broadway again for maintenance or parts.
Quick, helpful service. They went over the issues with my bike and what adjustments would help my biking experience. They had helmets, self repair time rental, parts. Quickly became my bike place.
Truly excellent service - helped me out with a dumb self repair problem that they fixed in five minutes and wouldnt let me pay them. great service good techs, queer friendly and not trying to upsell you.
Pros: Quick, reasonably-priced, and quality work. Very friendly and warm folks in the shop.Con: yes, they are a bit over-zealous with trying to sell unnecessary things like new brake pads, new chain, cables, etc. Just be prepared to say No thanks to the ancillary preventative suggestions.Overall I recommend the shop.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Best shop in Cambridge! Super fast, very good quality work. Ive come here for a few repairs that would have taken several days at other shops, took a few hours at Broadway.
Knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Just went in to fix a flat, but I also got some great guidance on some other issues I was having with my bike. Its a great little shop.
Broadway Bicycle School is the best, hands down. We shopped all over Cambridge and Boston and they were far more knowledgable, patient and professional than anywhere else we visited. We have since returned to have our bikes serviced and purchased accessories at the shop. We have received excellent customer service with each visit. Thanks Broadway Bicycle School team!
Theyve been servicing my bikes for decades. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Cant imagine a better bike shop!
I went to Broadway Bicycle School for the beginner and advanced classes offered there. They were fantastic. I though I knew a fair amount about bicycles but I learned so much every class. Everyone there was really nice and the atmosphere is very laid back. I dont need any bikes right now but I would definitely buy a bike here.
I took a six session maintenance 101 class here last summer, and I highly recommend it. I had been riding bikes around the city for like fifteen years, but didnt have the confidence to work on my own bike. Now I can tune it up and spot small issues before they become problematic. The shop itself is extremely compact and well outfitted. You can rent stand and tool time to work on your own bike, but you can also ask the mechanics to look it over and do whatever repairs for you.It is also a commuter friendly shop. They open at 8am Monday through Friday, so if you have mechanical trouble on the way in to work or school, you can get help at Broadway Bike School even though other shops dont open until 10am.Definitely check out their classes; this local bike shop is a great community resource!
So good, so helpful, so reasonable, so everything. A++ great shop. For everyone complaining about the overpriced products, consider that they have an area with significantly discounted 2nd hard parts, like bells, handle bars, cranks, &c. What other shop does that? No one. Also, if you are nice, they will let you use their stands and do your own maintenance and use their oil and rags and stuff.
What an awesome shop! The people and service are amazing, and they do wonderful things to support the community. Highly recommended.
Went there today for doing some light work calibrating my wheel hubs and truing the rear wheel (with assistance of the staff). I found a very friendly and fun environment to go work on my bike. Ill be back again for sure.
Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful staff. Did excellent work on my bike and even added a couple small tuneups free of charge. Highly recommend.
This is the only place I go to repair or tune up my bicycle. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and they do a great job. Ive also bought a couple of bikes there over the last few years. I highly recommend them.
I rode my bike to Inman today and when I came back to ride home, the chain was off. I popped into Broadway Bicycle School, and left more informed and happy. They popped my chain back on, explained what happened, and gave me some options that they recommended if the chain comes off again. They charged me nothing, and so I popped a $20 in the tip jar and vowed to come back here next time I need something bike related. Friendly, knowledgeable, and informative. Highly recommended.
Exceptionally honest and transparent and reasonable and good at what they do. I have used them for sevice twice and was always shown aND explained the issues and my options and pricing. I will never go elsewhere.
Ive been having my bikes repaired and maintained at BBS for almost ten years now.At most other bike shops I always felt like I was being ripped off: prices were high, turnover was high, and customers were treated like inanimate bicycles themselves. At BBS, all the employees seem to be part of the BBS family; its a co-op. Theres nothing flashy, the prices are reasonable, and the service is personal. Nobody will ever try to upsell you or rush you. Theyll take the time to go over all your options with you, and what theyll want is what is best for you and your bike. They arent gear-heads, they arent into the latest cutting edge bike technology, and theyre not trying to sell it to you. They care about bikes, bikes that will last and are affordable, and repairs that will last and are affordable. For them, bicycling isnt a sport and it isnt a business: its a lifestyle, and they are all about helping you to live it well. Its all very Cambridge; if youre looking for a neighborhood bike shop that really is a part of the neighborhood, this is the place.
Cute shop, but it awkwardly straddles the line between business and community resource. I took two classes here and found that that, in addition to being expensive, they discouraged questions and community building. When I asked for extra help, they told me to come back during business hours and pay to rent a stand with instruction. In general, youll find a better community at place like Somerville Bike Kitchen (if youre looking for something free) or better service at a place like Wheelworks (if youre looking to pay for quality).
Expert service and honest advice. The folks at Broadway Bike will tell you honestly whats wrong with your bike and how much it will cost and then do exactly what they promise. Ive had my bike returned earlier than promised on several occasions.
Amazing service and fair prices!
Great service and very talented people who work there.Their prices are also very reasonable.
I took my bike to Broadway Bicycle School to remove a gear shifter, but after doing so, the mechanic failed to securely reattach a small and extremely difficult to find part needed to reattach the shifter to the handlebars. Instead of just claiming responsibility for not fastening the part properly and replacing it with another, the mechanic who worked on the bike declared that I lost the part, and demanded that I go to the shop to rummage through a bin for a replacement. His colleagues also failed to take the professional initiative to reconcile the issue themselves, instead requesting that I contact him, or come on down to the shop to look through old parts bins for a replacement. Is it my responsibility as a customer to rummage through bins looking for a part that a mechanic lost? If an auto mechanic failed to tighten your shifter and it fell off while you were driving, you bet they would claim responsibility, but these folks sure did not. I took my business elsewhere.
They fixed my flat on the spot and let me watch and ask question. Yay! Thank you!
Liars Shop.If you find yourself inside the shop and someone recommend you buy something, due to whatever reason, run away. No matter how nice they talk, how sincere they sound, you should not listen to them. They will tell you that your bike is instant danger and it will affect safety or you are in danger. They say this to make you buy. Run! Run! Run! Chances are not that you bike is in that kind of danger. Even worse, if they offer to do some work on your bike, they will make it worse so that they can later make you buy other stuff. Avoid this shop! The people in the shop look nice and always smile. But they are very very wicked!
Dont bother with these guys. I brought my bike in to have my locked up hydraulic brakes fixed. I squeezed the brakes no more than two or three times before they went right back to the way they were.
The staff are extremely helpful and seem to really take their jobs seriously.
Bought bike here, service all 3 bikes for many years. Maybe a bit more expensive comparing to other bike stores but I like the service and location.
Extremely helpful service. Theyd rather fix you up right than sell you something you dont need (and will apply some friendly pressure if you might be doing something unwise).
This is a great, cooperatively-owned local business! The mechanics really know their stuff.
If you have no bike mechanic basics avoid these guys. Even more if you are fresh out of a scary near miss accident (happened recently to my wife). They are going to find a lot of fixes to be done, but totaling no more than the market value of your bike, so they can make you pay the most. Some examples: you should change your brake pads every month (this is their favorite); if you change brake pads likely brake wires need a replacement too; your chain is always fine (costs only $10 to get a new one) until your free wheel and crankset need to be replaced ($150).In conclusion, safety first is ok, but having such a high bar as these guys do is insane to me, pure waste of money.
Outstanding service, especially for unusual or vintage bikes or any bike with special needs. Reasonable prices and a staff thats always good-natured, knowledgable and willing to help.
Not cheap, but fairly priced, not the fastest, but have always met the schedule they promise. But absolutely the best workmanship, and the most knowledgable staff of any Boston-area bike shop Ive tried.
Very nice staff! Highly recommend!
Got a flat while in Cambridge and the repair, customer service, and price were all excellent here. In 15 minutes I was on my way home again.
These guys are the best. Brought my bike in for an overhaul and because it wasnt shifting smoothly. They fixed it but over the next twenty four hours I noticed it still wasnt shifting smoothly. I brought it back in and they said they should also have changed out the derailleur when they did the overhaul. BECAUSE THEY DIDNT NOTICE IT THE FIRST TIME, THEY DID IT COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE. It is a ding on them that they didnt do it the first time, but they more than made it up. Nobodys perfect, and their response to their mistake was fabulous customer service.
Ive been to BBS many times over the last 4 years. The people here are authentic and real. I would never take my bike elsewhere.
Pedal fell off on the way to work and these guys were great. Had me back on the road right at 830 am. Thanks!
Super honest and helpful. Also, price I paid for my used bike was unreal.
They fixed my flat here in less than 10 minutes. Great service. They accept LevelUp.
Super nice, helpful, professional staffs got things done really fast! Price is quite reasonable.
Tune-up = Waste of moneyDid a tune-up here (took a whole week!), charged $50 for truing wheel, replacing brake pads, general maintenance, another $50 for new brake pads. Well afterwards the wheel was not really trued (apparently radial truing is not included), the derailleur was working worse than before, and an issue with the pedals had not even been diagnosed. Had to bring it in to adjust the wheel again which of course was another $25. All the repairs and adjustments they did I could have done in 10 minutes with my tools at home. Well I wont be going there again.
VeryVery helpful and friendly staff!
Great work from great people.
Great bike shop
Pretty good service!!
LOVE the service! Quality repairs!!!
I havent bought a bike here, but they were super helpful and friendly when I came in with a problem, and they didnt even charge me for figuring it out.
The staff seems knowledgeable and helpful, but the prices here on both service and product are ridiculous.
Excellent service!
Super knowledgeable
They are worse than mechanical ones. They adjust one thing and misadjust you 2. To make matters worse they want to do things that the bicycle does not need and they charge you
