Had a great breakfast this morning! I had the country style biscuits and gravy and my wife had the quiche Lorraine. We also got some peanut butter cookies and an almond and cheese danish to take on our walk through Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge which is nearby. Both of those were amazing in fact the cookie was probably the best I’ve ever had!
We sailed into Cambridge and walked up to this charming coffee shop. Very trendy decor. Great lattes, the breakfast flatbread was delish, so was the grilled cheese and tomato soup. We got some pastries to eat later, also yummy. Our server was very sweet and friendly, she helped us find a place for dinner. Hoping to get back in the morning for coffee before we set sail!
Bought a yogurt parfait & a pumpkin spice cold brew everything about this restaurant is amazing. The food is affordable & well worth the price & the staff are friendly & very attentive & patient with the customers & each other. 100% recommend stopping by if your ever in the Cambridge, Maryland area
First time ever in this area today. Wanted to try a local place for breakfast. From the moment we walked in, we were not acknowledged, not even by a mere simple eye contact in our direction. The place was practically empty with obvious available tables. When we requested a table for 2, we were told that there was a waiting list and that the wait time was 30 min. After walking around downtown Cambridge for 45 min., we returned to the place, only to be told by the less than friendly manager that we still could not be seated even though they clearly had available tables. They could have served us and turned the table just in time for their reservations. Dont know what the appeal is when Pop Tarts is one of their offerings among their bakery display case! They were not worth my business! Im glad we didnt stay for the continued run around!! I emphatically would not recommend this place. Went to Dennys instead, seated immediately, served quicker with more courteous and friendlier service. BLACK WATER deserves less than 1 star!
Such a cute little bakery! We came in early on a Saturday morning (*before 9am) and got seated immediately. The coffee was on point! They use frozen coffee cubes instead of water which was a pleasant surprise. I tried the fresh Pop Tart from the case and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend got the breakfast quinoa bowl and he said it was yummy! We will definitely be back when we return to Cambridge! To the folks giving negative reviews, this is a local small bakery. Not a Panera. You need to be patient when getting your food, it’s worth the wait. Or just go to a big chain. Reservations are recommended if you come in after 10am on weekends, as mentioned this is a small bakery with limited seating.
Let me tell you about a place with great vibes, great food and great people. The shop is immaculately clean, artfully decorated, and has a mouth-watering variety of foods for everyone, vegan or carnivore. The staff are courteous, patient, kind, and attentive. My husband and I had a great time here, and I know you will too ❤
Really fabulous coffee, love the Old Bay mug and the creamer container. I had the quinoa bowl with scrapple which was awesome, however, I was not expecting it to be as spicy as it was. I like spicy food so didn’t mind, but anyone who is not ready for a sharp kick at 8AM needs a little heads up on its spiciness. I can only give this place 3.9 stars because the service was very slow in that of the 4 staff working, they didn’t seem super attentive, checking to see if coffee was low, etc. took me a while to get their attention for refills, and then for the check as well. And they were not crazy busy. I know that sounds picky but attentive service is SO important. That said, love the vibe here and I’ll absolutely be back and would recommend this place to anyone. (And being able to pay with Apple Pay at the table with the QR code on the check is cool.)
This quaint eatery has the best ambiance and service. The service was outstanding and everyone was very friendly. The food was awesome! I had the French toast with sausage and eggs which comes from the local farm. I would definitely return to here for brunch. You definitely need to make a reservation before going. This place is in high demand.
Adorable bakery and coffee house right across from the Harriett Tubman mural and Museum. We were looking for brunch before heading out of town from a weekend getaway. The concierge at Hyatt Regency recommended them and there couldnt have been a better choice. Great coffee options, great menu of breakfast and lunch items. We chose the crab omelet with a side of hash browns and a blueberry pancake with a side of bacon. The fresh bakery items were also amazing and I took a couple of items home. Our server Kane was friendly and knowledgeable and attentive.
Went here around brunch time on a Sunday. They were pretty busy. We got a table quickly and our service was great. To drink we ordered the mimosa, Bloody Mary and a Honey Lavender Chai Latte all were good. Food we ordered Loaded Breakfast Fries, Breakfast Quinoa Bowl, and Avocado Toast. Everyrhing was delicious we ate it all!! Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area and they do offer fresh pastries, and breads which all looked amazing.
I wasnt able to have an experience.I stopped in to order a sandwich to go, everything smells and looks lovely, they were well staffed with 4 people working behind the counter and doing service. I was told that I could only order baked goods and coffee, otherwise I had to go online and order - I was handed a business card with their website. You have to order through an app, and scroll through all of the food items and then it tells you it will be 25 - 30 minutes. I would have been a good customer, since I only work 2 blocks away, but still expect customer service. I order inline all of the time, but when I am standing right in front of you AND you are taking orders from seated guests, you need to accommodate walk-ins.
We loved this restaurant. Fantastic choices, a long list so everyone could find something to eat. The Shaksuka was delicious and the eggs Benedict could have been cooked a bit more lightly but overall it was delicious. The coffee was great. The service was good and there was free parking nearby. We turned up and got a table straight away. The ambiance is more family than romantic but that is good for a morning meal. Brunch for four was $60 but it was well worth it.
Lovely spot for breakfast. Food is great, especially loved the crab omelette. Good coffee and great service!
Tasty food and drinks! Friendly, attentive service (thanks Emily!). Gotta stop by if in the Cambridge, MD area. Oh, the breads and desserts are so good!
We enjoyed a great breakfast outside at Black Water bakery. I really loved my breakfast, an omelette with asparagus and gouda with a side of savory, crispy potatoes. While we didnt get a chance to sample any baked goods we did speak briefly with the owner. If youre able to its a great time to support local businesses like this lovely bakery.
Marvelous food- best honey mustard chicken salad I’ve had. Bakery products to die for- even gluten free available:)
We had a delicious breakfast! There were six of us and we all enjoyed our menu choices. The Bloody Marys and mimosas were great. It was hard to choose which bakery treats to take home! Would love to visit again next time we are in the area.
We were just visiting for a few days and went to Black Water Bakery for breakfast (this morning!). This place is so cute inside. Everything is very organized, appealing to the eye and everyone who works there is very friendly. The food is AMAZING! We are early birds so we had no trouble getting a table but it did look like they had a lot of reservations coming in so I would say go early if you didn’t make a reservation. I would go back here in a heart beat!
A very inviting and comforting place to eat. Attentive folks, excellent eats for every taste, and pancakes with a perfectly crisp side. Coffee was delicious. Great for families too. Highly recommended.
Lived here my whole life,Tried to get lunch today because I had to stop by hunt insurance across the street,Didnt go real well,I was told you couldnt walk in to place an order but I could get a pastry,You can order takeout online......its been pretty tough for restaurants the last 18mths to turn away someone that would most likely become a regular, but I wish you luck and this should be addressed quickly, bad news travels fast
Called and tried to make an order over the phone, they said they were unable to take orders over the phone and that we had to go online to place an order (which I have never heard of). Then when I placed an order, I requested that instead of getting sausage in my breakfast burrito that they put chorizo in. Apparently they were too busy to accommodate the simplest request (which as a service provider you typically make accommodations for your customers). I mean, I dont like sausage with my breakfast but I guess that does not matter to them. Will not be coming here again.
This restaurant is so charming, we loved all the details. Food was fantastic and service was great!
Great coffee and even better food and sweets. The crab omelet is the best and their chocolate cake here is really good.
Great place when in Cambridge check them out! Coffee and food excellent
Outstanding food, service and flexibility in planning a special event for our family and friends!!
Got a full death by chocolate cake for my dad’s birthday. Everyone agreed it was one of best chocolate cakes they’d tasted! The ganache on top was to die for. Looking forward to dining in next time we’re in Cambridge.
AMAZING! Food was so good! Packed us up some pastries for later. Definitely going to return.
Had Breakfast there this morning waited one hour for the food. I had the quiche which the top of it was black inside it was delicious how far is we’re not hot and they were soggy. Waitress was great and apologized, if the chef can’t handle it in the kitchen he really needs to get out
Ordered a BLT and it was perfect. The bread was amazing and the fries were hot and perfectly salted. I ordered some bakery items to go and still have to try some of them but the oreo cupcake was the best cupcake Ive ever eaten. The baker who makes them needs to compete in cupcake wars.
Checked out this place for breakfast while we were vacationing in Cambridge. Their name is not a reference to any nearby body of water. Its a colloquial reference to the stuff served in a mug (duh). The place is super charming. I love the mix of seating options. Cute strands of lights hang from the ceiling that clearly would be even more charming once the sun goes down. You could tell from the patrons that were already seated that this is a cozy local haunt. They do have an on-site bakery and an eclectic menu of freshly prepared items. Note that this does mean you might be waiting a bit for your food. But you can kill the time enjoying their coffee and conversations with whomever youre with. Its a relaxed kind of place so if youre in a rush, dont be a buzz kill and just move on. Interesting variations on breakfast choices including avocado toast, steak and eggs, crab omelettes (natch) with a side of rough chopped potato hash, and western omelettes served with a side of arugula salad. All delicious and not overly seasoned. The neighborhood kind of seems a bit sketchy (eg the beat up alley way parking lot next to it) but the place is like a small hip oasis. One amateur interior design suggestion in case youre reading this Black Water - faux brick walls (or real ones!) and youd be right at home in Brooklyn.
After making a reservation online the night before I expected to be seated shortly after arriving on time but it took 15 minutes for me to be able to get someone’s attention behind the counter!! It takes two moments to acknowledge customers that come in and are standing at the register. We were then POINTED AT what table to sit at and told someone will be at the table shortly. It took less than 3 minutes to look over the menu and figure out what we wanted but after waiting for 15 minutes I had to get up myself to grab one of the employees and let her know I was ready to order drinks and food. This and dropping off the food was the ONLY times someone came to our table. I understand if the problem was that this place was just busy but that was not the case. The owner blamed it on being understaffed but the issue is that they sat more people than they can handle. Just plain discrimination, mind you I’m a light skin female walking in with my white spouse so I should’ve expected not to get treated the same as every other customer who walked in. Every other table in the restaurant got service, even had the owner stop and converse with them a few times. After searching for an employee the whole time I’m there I’m observing the owner greet every other table and every other waitress check on their table, ask for additional drink orders, even delivering the checks to them! I couldn’t believe it because I literally had to ask for service from the time I walked in. Can someone seat us for our reservation? Can we place the orders for our food and beverage? Can someone come back to the table to make sure everything turned out okay? Can someone give us a check so we can just leave this place? It takes a few seconds to greet and at least acknowledge someone who is standing up waiting to be seated for 15 minutes!! So of course by the time I’m finished eating waiting and waiting for the check I decide to speak with the owner myself and if I hadn’t I’m sure we would have been sitting alone and unattended until the place closed for the day. Absolutely ridiculous. Every employee even the owner needs to be trained on customer service and common courtesy.
We were visiting the area and were so pleasantly surprised to find this gem! The menu is amazing and the food was every bit as good as it sounded. Because of covid we got our breakfast to-go but the atmosphere was wonderful and we would love to go back someday. Also need to mention that the customer service was excellent and they were sweet enough to rush our order when they found out we were waiting outside and in a bit of a hurry - thank you! Best wishes and we hope to be back!
Breakfast Sammie and loaded breakfast fries were delicious. Ordered multiple pastries, none were a disappointment.
Outstanding! We came here for brunch and enjoyed the breakfast flat bread + breakfast fries.
Excellent food and great service. Had the asparagus omelette which was delicious.Good atmosphere ... easy parking.
Yummy food and wonderful service! Glad I stopped by and will definitely come back next visit. 😁
Great coffee shop and bakery in the heart of Cambridge. Very thoughtful touches and healthy menu. Has two tables outside in which you can bring your dog.
Good black coffee. Blueberry muffins were, well kind of more berry than muffin.
Fantastic food. Love the attention to detail so youre eating with your eyes as much as your taste. Chicken pot pie was excellent.
Had lunch with a coworker here and it was so great! The general vibe and look of the bakery is really cute, the tables are all distanced pretty well, and there are options for both touchless menus and payment, which is great during Covid. Our food came out super fast and was delicious 😋 The hot chicken sandwhich was not as spicy as I thought it would be, but had a ton of flavor that I wouldnt have been able to appreciate under a ton of spice, which was really nice. The coffee is really reasonably priced, and the brownie I picked up on the way out is just incredible. Will definitely be returning now that I know about this little spot. 😊
Great staff, delicious healthy options, a rare gem enroute to the beach
Service was average. Food was bland and sub par (I ordered turkey panini). Cappuccino was good. Very limited choices at the bakery. Ambiance ok. Prices are high for the amount of food.
Loved this little gem! Stopped on our way to Chincoteague for breakfast. I loved the menu and the atmosphere! Great concept of breakfast and brunch plus bakery. Food was great and I loved my Honey lavender chai latte!!
Absolutely wonderful place! Service was as perfect as the food.
Wonderful food, coffee, and service! A model for small town charm and great atmosphere.
My wife and I had breakfast outside before returning home from our mini vacation in Cambridge. We checked out of the hotel with our free breakfast bags and headed downtown for a nice breakfast. I had the yogurt parfait, coffee, and most of my wifes bacon. Think she had a more normal breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee. We tend to balance each other out zo one of us isnt unnecessary. The service was good, good social distancing. Its quite a charming town thats ready for Halloween.
I must say the German chocolate cupcake was the best cupcake I’ve ever eaten! I don’t even care if I gain weight from these delicious goodies!! 😂
This place is a gem for Cambridge. Good food, friendly atmosphere and awesome service. But I think some of their items could have been priced better and more affordable.
This is by far one of the best places for breakfast weve experienced. Food is great, fresh, healthy, and innovative. The blueberry muffin is superb. And the coffee- perfectly served in cool mugs. We LOVED this place and will be back often.
Such a nice find right here in the neighborhood. Clean and savory bakery + eatery = YUM!
Im sure the food is as good as others expressed. From what I could see and smell. But you should remove the word bakery from the name. Selection was very limited and charging 7.99 for 3 pumpkin pie is a bit outrageous
While an adorable venue, slow service and average food. Waited nearly 40 minutes for breakfast. Soup was tasteless and watery.
Excellent food with great service. Large variety of food and desserts. Highly recommend.
Ordered the crab omelette and was far from impressed..... no flavor!! The portions were fair and service was great, the omelet did have some crab in it which is the only way I can kinda see it being worth $14.... overcooked :(Also worth noting that Im a HUGE fan of hollandaise sauce and order it everywhere I can but this was nowhere near the taste Im used to... it really tasted like eating a spoonful of crisco-- BLEH!!!!
Good food nice place to eat and chill
Great affordable food with awesome staff!
Not open 9/21 through 9/23. No advanced notice until we pulled in. Do you people not post updates online?
The Nashville chicken sandwich is great!
Delicious and Healthy or Sweet!Stopped in for a snack on my drive from OC to DC for a quick snack and cup of coffee. Yet, we ended up with a Red-eye, a Bloody Mary, a Pop tart, quiche lorraine, and tomato soup with a bacon cheese sandwich. Only regret is that we didnt get 2 Bloody Marys. I hope this place sticks around.
After ordering my first drink and finishing, I had to wait 10 minutes for the waitress to come back while I was still eating to order my next drink. After 20 additional minutes we had to get her attention in order to cancel the drink order and get our check because of the lack of attention. It should not take 30 minutes to go by without any drink on the table. Horrible service experience every time I have gone. Do not go here and expect a somewhat decent service experience.
Food was delicious, it was on a cute street with indoor or outdoor seating.
Friendly atmosphere, impeccable service and the food is amazing.
Just stopped in for a sweet treat and coffee. Friendly service and pretty good coffee.
Eclectic cafe with great baked goods, good food and friendly, knowledgeable staff
The food is just to good!! Even warmed up later, and I had breakfast! Its just to good! 🤤 Took some more baked goods for home.
Absolutely phenomenal breakfast here!
Excellent breakfasts and baked goods. Weve been twice, and now that well be locals, envision regular weekend breakfast walks. Worth a stop in this cute downtown.
Two big thumbs up for the winter vegetable salad and the BLT. Very good coffee, too. And super nice staff.
Incredible local eatery with creative custom bakery, breakfast, handheld and cafe bistro.
Loved this place. Had breakfast and everything was delicious. Purchased some of their bakery offerings to take home. Differently treat yourself
Great food, service and atmosphere
Great food and coffee
Service and food is great!
Quaint, clean, courteous, and quick! The food is REALLY good, too! Great ambiance no matter the occasion! 10/10 recommend if youre ever in Cambridge!
The good is always excellent and plentiful. Staff is attentive and friendly. Always look forward to eating there
Great omlets and pastriesPlace clean and bright, taking appropriate social distancing protocol.Staff friendly and attentiveWould definitely go back
Good coffee.
The food and fresh orange juice was amazing! We had fast service and a friendly waitress. I would highly recommend this cute bakery to anyone in the area or just passing through. Outstanding!
Delicious food and coffee. Very cute inside, creatively decorated. Lots of different delicious and creative pastries. I had a fabulous avocado toast with a side of arugula. A great meal for a vegetarian! This place makes their own fabulous breads. And their menu is varied. Something for everyone. Hubby had a fantastic Green giant omelette. Fabulous! I would highly recommend this place.
Best Breakfast avocado toast is delicious
Great place.A must visit cafe. Great food selection.
The food and coffee here are amazing! I drink black iced coffee, they put coffee ice cubes in it which was great. The coffee was some of the best I have ever tried. Not too many options for vegetarians/ vegans but the salad you can get without animal products and it is still very tasty. The staff was very friendly and helpful, good service as well. They have mostly baked goods and coffee but also have plenty of actual food options. They also brought out water for our dog to drink which was kind.
Wonderful friendly place. We had a tasty meal and enjoyed live music which was a bonus. The place is nicely decorated. Great selection of coffees and teas. The service was very attentive. Well definitely come back.
