My first time here and I will say that it was wonderful. I met my family who I havent seen in a while. The server was patient even though we couldnt decide on food because we were catching up with each other. He kept drinks and appetizers flowing and was very cordial. I originally ordered the fish, but as it was almost ready, he came out to say that it wasnt looking very fresh so asked if I wanted to order something else. Even though I ordered a different dish, my food came out just as quickly as everyone else at the table. Delicious food, great drinks, lovely ambience and awesome service!

Great first impression at this restaurant. Their sides are HUGE! Great for a larger get together. I had a delicious meal and would definitely visit again! The fries were a huge hit :)

Throughly enjoyed the unique and stylish decor. Inside a round building, Next of Kin utilized the space beautifully. Enjoyed an eclectic menu, including an unexpected surprise in the form of Kamehachi sushi. We did not realize the association between the two restaurants. Enjoyed a couple rolls as our appetizer. The half chicken was delicious, incredibly moist, and as the waiter said, extremely underrated. The Miso Salmon was excellent as well. Impeccable service and friendly staff.

This restaurant looks like a two Michelin star place! They are super slammed, but as you can imagine, its super hard to get staffed so they were all running rampant to fulfill guest needs.Drinks were great, especially the Bloody Mary for lunch/brunch.The Journeyman Barrel aged Fig and Plum Manhattan was heavenly. Salads were stellar, especially the watermelon salad. Music was divine. Please be patient when you go and enhance your experience with understanding how many tens of thousands of individual tasks each of the staff performs in one shift. Its an experience 4 sure!

Very good food! However, the peach blueberry crisp took a very long time to come out and our waiter didn’t take the time to check on us in the meantime or let us know ahead of time that the dish takes awhile to prepare (if that’s the reason it took awhile for service). When it arrived, it had a strange taste to it- I couldn’t even finish, I was a bit worried that it wasn’t even safe to eat. Overall, our experience and food was great! Just that one hiccup. And I HIGHLY recommend the lavender lemonade cocktail!

The food was absolutely fantastic, but it was so let down by the service. My partner and I were there for two hours and were one of four tables. In that time, no one refilled our water glasses, our cocktail glasses were empty for 45 minutes and our waiter never checked on us to see if wed like to order a second round, and food took quite a while to come out. At one point, my partner was served a chicken sandwich that he ordered, but it was taken away as we were told that the sandwich was for someone else. I know that its a tough time to be in the restaurant business, and I never write bad reviews, but when your waiter basically ignores you for two hours I cannot recommend this place to anyone, despite the very good food.

We had a fantastic experience at Next of Kin this past weekend. The food was absolutely delicious - we got the Ocean Drive sushi special, the salmon, and the burrata and tomato confit toast appetizer. Our kids also go the chicken tenders and fries. Everything tasted so good and was top quality. Our drinks were also really yummy. Service was impeccable and very attentive. Cant wait to go back!

My first time here. Food quality was not good on a Sunday- cold food, low quality meat, substitutions made on apps without asking if it was ok. Wine was good ((shrug)).

A very nice restaurant with warm and attentive service and great food. Simple dishes are complemented by inventive flavors. Burgers (both Kinship and Lamb) are amazing. Good wine list and some tasty cocktails. Coreena was the most pleasant and knowledgeable server. Highly recommended.

My very first time here a few days ago. The food was delicious and so were our drinks. Our server was new (we were his first table on his own) and he absolutely killed it! We were very disappointed by the manager afterwards, she asked us how he did almost as if she was out to get him😕 trust in your employees, and if not see what you can do to help them. That young man was absolutely amazing

Service was just below par for a not so busy time. (I feel bad enough saying that, wont go into details) A bit of awareness would help.Food tasted GREAT, but not everything was properly cooked...Wouldve been perfectly fine letting management know rather than this.. but we were not acknowledged at all but him/her as they pranced around in an empty restaurant.. not leaving with a sour taste, will definitely give them another chance.

Good service. Great food. Good drinks, apps and main course entrees - They have something for every palate. Shared pasta primavera, spicy curry bowl and fried chicken among 4 adults. Delicious.

Kinship is a unique and good restaurant. The honey butter fries are beyond delicious. We also had the miso salmon and the fried chicken, which were good. The fried chicken was moist while the outside was crunchy and crispy. The service was nice, the waitress accidentally messed up our cocktail order and let us keep the wrong one for free.

The food looked a lot better than it tasted. The Nuttela French toast was soggy and soft... probably due to the overwhelming amount of Nutella on it. The roasted potatoes were bland on their own. The Brussels Sprouts needed more seasoning and the Monkey Bread was hard. I was excited when I saw the items, but less so when I ate them. Service was good and the outdoor seating was nice on a warm day.

We went there for my fiancees birthday, Lauren R. was our waitress. I asked if they made Pina Coladas, they did not, so my second choice was an Amaretto Sour, she said yes I know we have that and my fiancee ordered the Honey Dew You. Lauren returned with my fiancees drink and informed me there was no Amaretto so I ordered the Lavendar Lemonade. For dinner I ordered the half chicken but they didnt have any more chicken, so Salmon it is. Despite the bumps in the food options; the service was great and the people were friendly, the manager even visited our table with a amusing story. I would definitely revisit this place.

The place and the service are wonderful. The food is ok and definitely not worth the price.We were 4 on a Friday night. The hostess sat us right away and we have an option for a table inside or outside - not a good one, but the place was packed and we didnt make a reservation - so thats fine.I ordered the Spicy Curry (with no shrimps) and the cocktail. The cocktail was great however the curry wasnt to my taste (good spiciness but the veggies were boring - I dont know how else to describe it). The waiter was very helpful and I eventually switched my dish to the Roast Chicken. Unfortunately the Chicken was just ok. I really hoped for more than what I got.One of us did had a very good dish (Lamb Shank) and the two others enjoy theres to a point (Linguine and the Kinship Burger).Again, the place and the atmosphere are great, the service is amazing, but you can get bad (or good) dishes (which is disappointing).

Go for cocktails and maybe an appetizer, but eat dinner somewhere else. The décor of the restaurant is very modern and provides a relaxed setting for a drink or two before continuing your evening. The cocktail selection was original and our drinks tasted great.However, the food was just ok. I ordered the Pasta Primavera with chicken because the restaurant was out of the whitefish. The dish was fine and the vegetables were fresh, but the flavors were bland and the chicken was a small sliced breast, seemingly unseasoned, just set on top. I briefly considered asking for some salt and pepper. In my opinion, it was only slightly better than you might expect from a dish at Noodles & Co.. We ordered the charcuterie as an appetizer which didnt come out until our entrees were served and ended up being our dessert instead. The board itself was tasty once we got around to enjoying it and would provide a nice complement to a round of drinks.Our server made the meal enjoyable. She was friendly and polite, waiting a few seconds for us to pause our conversation before checking in. The rest of the service was lackluster. We came in on a Sunday evening. Although the restaurant was not full when we arrived, we were seated at a table directly outside of the kitchen and near the serving stations and walkways which was less than ideal and distracting throughout the meal. As the restaurants stated closing time approached, we felt rushed to finish and leave. We were asked multiple times (not by our server) whether we had finished our food or needed to-go boxes, even though we were clearly still trying to enjoy our charcuterie.Overall, the experience was not bad, just fine. A few improvements to the service and some seasoning in the food would have bumped this rating up to four or five stars.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our 1 yr anniversary here today. We loved the honey butter waffle fries, they were AMAZING! The shrimp curry bowl had an amazing kick and was so yummy. The chicken fried scallops were also good. The tahini chicken salad was not a favorite, kinda bland. When they brought us the dessert, it came with a card that was signed by the whole staff, we thought it was so sweet. Emily our waitress was great, attentive, so sweet and kind.

Came here on a Sunday for brunch - had the Kale Florentine and a Cinnamon Oat Latte. Both were excellent. Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating (we were headed to the airport afterwards and they graciously stored our luggage out of the way). Physical space strikes a nice balance between mid-mod architecture and modern updates. Id definitely come back next time I am in town.

The lavender vanilla latte could be the best latte Ive ever had. Its like relaxation in a cup. The pastries are also fresh and lovely. Be sure to check around the corner to the right for the best seating.

Service was the worst 1hr 1/2 all we had was one drink waitress never came back to see if we needed anything the manager place the blame on the customer who does that check was redone 3 times

A wonderful restaurant for white Evanstonians. But if you’re black you’ll be given your check prematurely and ushered out as quickly as possible. Definitely not a restaurant representative of the Evanston community. Will never dine here again.

Dined there with my NU daughter celebrating her accomplishments. The restaurant would not accept my cash, which last time I looked it said, This note is Legal Tender for all debts public and private. If the owners are worried about the transfer of Covid, through surface contact, I did not see chairs, door handles, dessert menus and other surfaces wiped down other than the table top. The screen door to their patio was left wide open which would allow more Covid to enter since Covid is more transferable by air. Its why we wear masks and not gloves. To NOT ACCEPT my incredibly hard-earned cash, in front of my daughter, was demeaning and insulting. Just like the black gentleman who reviewed your restaurant poorly because he feels like he got the pushed out the door, Ill never be back. What a shame. For the last 4 years and 3-4 times per year, it was the highlight of my afternoon to pick up my NU daughter and go the Next of Kin Restaurant. The company of my daughter was magical. I did not let this stupid restaurant taint my visit. I wont ever be back. There are so many other restaurants that would be glad to take my cash.

Great welcome and although initially forgot about our table, rapidly recovered and provided an awesome experience; friendly, great suggestions and creative drinks (Try House Rules)... We ordered many plates and shared family style to sample delicious flavors. Management and Service are caring. We had a great experience... I eat in this spot a lot since I work right next to it. I must say their customer service is always excellent and they keep the spot clean regularly. Prices are convenient and they serve generous portions.

Best cocktails in Evanston. The service and staff are friendly and fun. An excellent space for any occasion. One of a few places where desserts are made in-house and are truly fresh. The menu changes and the chef is incredibly creative and skilled. Dine often for the full experience of the restaurant. From dates, to dinner with friends, to out of town guest, a beautiful space with incredible food. You wont be disappointed. Take your time, make it a night. Get a reservation and enjoy the evening.

Excellent food. We came for a birthday dinner and the staff was excellent. There when they needed to be but not over bearing. They even did a special birthday eclair! The short rib was excellent.

This is the first time that my husband and I have visited this restaurant. It was magnificent. Our waiter was friendly and it was a very cozy place to eat. The food was amazing. I am hoping that we can return and have dinner there next visit.

After a mixhap with our reservation (likely not their fault), the receptionist cheerfully told us not to worry, they would seat us. But we were seated (for dinner) in an adjoining breakfast and lunch room, where no one seemed fully responsible for our table - which was two small bistro tables pushed not quite together, and covered with a single cloth, leaving a large unsupported gap. The saving grace - pleasant staff and good food. But a sorely disappointing experience.

Warm, friendly but not intrusive service. A lunch/brunch menu so tempting that I had a hard time narrowing down my choices. A spicy Asian crepe filled with scrambled eggs and vegetables then sauteed till golden was delicious.

The food was great. Framed to table . I cut the pork cheek carbonara and its was so good. Not heavy light and fresh herbs to brighten it up. The strawberries and rhubarb turnover was fantastic. Not too sweet just right.

I have been to next of kin Café a few times both to eat and to do post mates, I could recommend a tortilla soup. It taste just like Abuela used to make LOL the tortillas in the soup I cooked very well and it has a good portioning of vegetables and it just has a lot of flavor and it’s really good for a cold winter day. The atmosphere inside is very nice it makes you feel like very calm and relaxed and not to mention the fact that the choices of food on the menu are very healthy

Food is good, but service is so-so... Last visit with 4 people my main course did not come out. It took 20 minutes to get a hangersteak and eggs redone... Today, I ordered lox and bagel... With not enough lox for 1/2 a bagel. And my drink order got lost.... So at this point I am down to the last try before this becomes a Do not visit recommendation.

I was very happy with the food and the service was excellent. The restaurant seems more like something that you would find downtown because of the large nicely designed restaurant with floor to ceiling windows. We split the Kale Caesar salad, roasted vegetables, Halibut and fresh pasta with lobster/scallops and a bottle of white wine! Yikes, we also split an eclair for dessert which was good but the pastry was not as good as the ones at Blind Faith which are excellent. I will go here again because everything was prepared super well and it is a nice space.

Ambiance was very nice with lots of natural light and nice service. The kale salad I had was ok but I thought it needed other greens in the mix. Salmon was cooked just right for my taste.

Actually amazing. The brunch is particularly well done. Kinship delivers on such a high quality meal without feeling taken advantage of.The service at the bar (when eating) left a bit to be desired but it didnt diminish the experience too much.

The restaurant is welcoming and sophisticated, with down-to-earth staff serving out-of-this-world food. I can see myself bringing both my mother and a potential business partner or professional meeting for a meal at Kinship. Their catering is equally delicious, always on time, and feels very personal. Im happy to serve their products to my office!

There are fresh, interesting, and tasty options for lunch here. The salad bar has a lot of variety, and while it can get pricey quickly, the quality makes it worth it. One complaint is that their acai bowl is very underwhelming - it turns out to be the soupiest basic fruit smoothie with just a few things sprinkled on top, and they never seem to have bananas for it.

I only sat at the bar for drinks but I liked it. Nice, well-lit mid century design which is really nice contrast to the dark, industrial prohibition thing thats going on everywhere now. The brussel sprouts were fabulous!

Food was great! My table ordered the local honey butter fries and they were amaaaaazing. My only disappointments were that I had my mind set on getting the braised short rib as my entree, only to find out that they don’t have it anymore (?) and at the end of the night our waitress forgot about us.

Nice place to treat yourself. Prices are on the higher end for Evanston restaurants. If you go, would recommend the honey butter fries as theyre incredible. Service is quick and the environment is pretty nice as well.

We had a lot of fun at this new place with another couple. Restaurant was cool! Drinks were quirky and creative. Appetizers were very good. Brussels Sprouts were the best. Entrees were fine, could be fine tuned. The burger delicious, was a little overdone. The cavatelli pasta was delicious, though the cream sauce was too rich. The chicken was very tasty and cooked just right. We did not like the salmon as it was undercooked. Our waitress was good. Very attentive. Manager very attentive as well. Gave us an extra appetizer, tuna, really good, because chef Marco thought our entrees took to long to be made. We didnt notice. Chef Marcos came to our table, and was delightful. Would we go back? Probably.

Awful experience came with my girlfriend to spend the saturday night in lovely setting best part of the restaurant was our server. Tasteless patty on burger rice was undercooked. Brussels sprouts were burnt. Never again.Heard so many good things about this place very disappointed. My dog seems to like burger.

I discovered Kinship at brunch and just HAD to go back the following weekend. It is the BEST BRUNCH in Evanston. The avocado toast, the brussel sprouts, the lemon ricotta pancakes, monkey bread, EVERYTHING is so good, fresh, perfect portions, and inventive yet accessible menu. It is my favorite brunch place and I cant wait to try their dinner menu. The decor and staff are also so nice!
