The volunteer staff at Newark Bike Project was able to get me back up and running quickly when I came in with a bent wheel. It was too damaged to repair, and the found a nicely priced replacement set and swapped out the cassette in no time. Highly recommended.Bike rides better than before with the new wheels.
Very knowledgeable and helpfully. They really know there bike stuff. Plenty of bikes to purchase and everyone is friendly. This is the place to go to take classes if you want to learn how to fix issues with your bike. Dave, Katelyn, Josh and the others are great!!!
We got a great bike here!
Excellent bike shop! I was a trash “student” but they helped me with such grace and care. Will def come again!
Great customer service on the spot very helpful and knowledgeable mechanics, I brought a used MTB santacruz bike to add some air to the marzocchi fork which requires a special valve adapter, 2 mechanics knew a lot about MTB, they helped me on the spot and checked the bike quick visual inspection. I will bring the bike for a tune up next time.
Had a bike on hold for my mom while they were fixing the brakes on the bike she had chosen. She was told she would receive a call when the brakes had been repaired. She had not received a call so she decided to call to check on the status of the repair and was told the brakes had still not been repaired. That same night they sold the bike to another customer. When my mom called again the next day to check on the status of the brake repair she was informed the bike had been sold by mistake.
Bought 20 plus old bike for 150. Got it home all seems good. Next day front flat. Just filled it up. A week later. Front flat. For 150 you would think the tires would be intact. Guess not
Excellent service, friendly/kind staff, very knowledgeable.
I never write reviews but I had to for the Newark Bike Project! Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable with lots of technical skill. They are very COVID conscious and take measures to keep everyone safe. Their services are super reasonably priced and I love their mission. I am so thankful this business has stayed open during quarantine!
Knowledgeable and friendly people, reasonable prices for descent quality bikes.
Teaching how to repair your bike and at a fraction of the price of a traditional bike shop. Its great!
Amazing staff who help you or show you how to fix your a bike. Had 3 international students last year who were able to buy used bikes and then return them at the end of the school year. Much needed service in Newark.
This is a really great place to get hands on knowledge of how to fix your bike yourself. There is a great selection of cheap used bikes and various parts. The place is run by volunteers and they are all really willing and happy to help with any problem. It is a really great place to walk in an ask anything and you will get a good, in depth answer
I was told about NBP by a friend from church. They would rather have older bikes get fixed up and out on the road than in the trash or a landfill. They encourage you learn, and provide folks that volunteer to assist you in basic repairs. I came in with a flat tire, and Tanner (who is an *amazing* volunteer and a whiz with about every tool Ive seen used) basically answered every question I could ask, with tool in hand, ready to help.I left with:* Repaired tire* Straightened derailleur* Adjusted brakes* Fixed shift deck (not sure if thats the right term)* A _much_ better appreciation and understanding of how to maintain my bikeAgain, I cant thank these guys enough, and Tanner in particular. Great bunch of folks!I will *definitely* be back, and will recommend this place to everyone I speak to. You should too!
Super knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. Every community should have something like this. I look forward to coming back for classes. Thanks for all the help!
Amazing place. Really take their time to help you repairing your bike, even though I did not buy my bike there. Replaced my tire and chain for basically no money (which is nice as a college student).
If you need good advice, a random part, or a helping hand, this is the first place you want to go for your bike. Each trip has left me a bit more knowledgeable about bicycles and didnt drain the bank account.Id encourage attending their open workshop nights when your bike needs a little love, or stopping by for something a little more unique than a cheaply made big box store bike.
Great place, great service affordable pricescant complain at all always leave knowingore about my bike and how it works and try to tip if you can!
Super great people I am here from out of town brought a new bike I built for some adjustments they have open shop night where they teach and wow I have built dozens of bikes from the frame up and they thought me secerse things repaired a looses freewheel that I did not notice and just going over my bike caught that it was missing a spacer u see the headset dust cap.. I would have never seen this and would have destroyed a $2000.00 frame they r great .. when we were done I went to settle up and they wanted $8 yes $8 so I made a donation to cover that and a fair rate great people.. If you have a bicycle go on open shop time you will not regret it.
GREAT got A BIKE FOR my grandaughter
One day I wandered into the Newark Bike Project to see if I could get some air in my tires. I am so glad I did.The guys asked me when the last time I rode the bike. I told them it had been a while. Wouldn’t you know they offered to check over my bike right there on the spot. It is a good thing they did because the breaks on the bike were bad. If it wasn’t for the Newark Bike Project, I could have and got into an accident because my breaks were bad. They saved me.Tanner immediately went to work and fixed my breaks, my gear shifter, trued up my wheel, etc. He was very understanding about people from diverse backgrounds with different abilities.Thank you Tanner. Thank you Newark Bike Project.
Great staff. Extremely knowledgeable.
Great staff for great cause
Absolutely loved this place. Super friendly staff. Overall great place to shop.
Brought my girlfriends bicycle in. Rather than just taking it off my hands and leaving me sitting in the lobby like most bike shops, instead they handed me a wrench and taught me what was wrong with it, what each part was called, handed me diagrams of how it looks assembled/disassembled, and told me how to get to working on it!Two hours later, she was road-ready and in much better shape! It cost me only a few dollars, and I know so much more about bicycles now! Ive started volunteering with them, and theyve taught me a lot about bicycles.
Great experience! This help me with all the questions I had! Go there! They are very nice and the know what the doing! God bless them! Thank you!!!
Helpful, dedicated staff and volunteers performing an important service. Good selection of bikes, parts, and accessories. NBP is a great asset for the Newark community!
I worked with Tom tonight very informative and professional and friendly . I love the whole concept and I learned a lot kudos NBP
Bought my used bike here a few months ago (a Trek Antelope 820). Came back to get help with replacing the tubing, which had torn, and tires, which were worn with dry-rot. Staff were incredibly generous with their time, knowledge, and resources. Gave me a 50% discount on brand new tires ($14 each usually) and didnt charge for the used tubes ($5 usually) since I had bought the bike from them with the worn tires. Also threw in a used kickstand which they helped install. Best part was that they taught me one-on-one how to replace the tires and tubing myself, diagnose potential causes of tube tears, and also how to adjust the alignment of my brakes. Even though I spent 2.5 hours in the shop, they only charged me for 1 hour of shoptime ($5). Bottom line, staff were just really great people with an awesome mission to empower more bikers in the Newark community and promote sustainability both by reclaiming used bikes and supporting bike commuters. Excited to come back at some point and learn even more!
Great place to learn how to fix your own bike. And the staff an very friendly.
Very helpful and friendly.
Great project and great service.
A fantastic nonprofit that has helped us with our bikes as well as donating bicycles to some needy friends who didnt have transportation.
Cool, knowledgeable people
Fanatstic service for poor college students
They are great!
They help you to fix the bike
Helpful staff
Good
Friendly and profs.
Stock was not impressive, way overpriced. Staff was friendly, hence the 3 stars.Edit- In response to the owners response- I was just giving an honest review of the prices, a new items price is cut in half as soon as its no longer new, inoperable project bikes were priced around $100 and severely outdated and well used bikes were as high as $500. Im giving this information not as a criticism but as a honest review of the stock so customers can have a good idea of whether or not they wish to travel across state lines to visit this store.
