Stumbled upon the Fairmont while exploring the Old Market area.. This place is amazing. Eclectic. Nostalgic. Random. Awesome overload. All of the props and shopping were a trip down memory lane. Found candy from my youth. Crazy assortment of sodas. Playing the old school pinball machines was a great treat. Definitely a place to check out at least once in your life.
Fun place to go while in Omaha! We got there just as it was opening and were welcomed in by one of the owners, and by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet of course! Old-fashioned diner where you can order shakes, malts and the like surrounded by the largest ball point selection I’ve seen. The Fairmont has a walk of fame where Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Rob Zombie, and other celebrities have visited. This is an eclectic shop filled with other wild collections such as a rubber ducky collection, lots of Troll dolls, antique mall, and the biggest Pez collection I’ve ever seen. It also has a small theater, an impressive array of arcade games (now closed to the public), and a huge candy store which pretty much had any type of candy you have ever heard of.
The place is a little pricey but, they have a great selection of candy from today and yesterday. They also have great displays of pinball machines and many other things from the past. Love going there. I always find and see something new every time I go.
There are some neat things to see here if you like antique/novelty items. Old toys, candy, pinball, music records, lawn ornaments, house decoration etc but it gets crowded fairly easy with narrow isles. People that work there werent very service oriented either but I still think its worth a look inside if you have any interest.
I went here today and a lady who claimed to be the owner was very rude to a young adult male who seemed of hispanic decent. He asked for her name and she called him rude for that! He spoke very calmly to her while she seemed aggressive, well at least her face expression said so. The reason he asked for her name was to give a review online but she denied to give him her name, which I think was very unprofessional of her. We should all feel free to give our opinion without feeling oppressed. She should also be aware that if she is going to open a business she should respect her clients’ opinions. With others opinions she can improve her business. After all we are the consumers. The reason the boy asked for her name was because apparently you have to give your I.D. In exchange for the Air hockey strikers. That’s outrageous!!! I saw that she gave him back his I.D after returning the air hockey strikers! I understand why that boy didn’t agree with that policy. I wouldn’t want to do that either. Then she said “you don’t know that people steal those. You don’t run a successful business.” That was significantly rude of her. First of all she shouldn’t be saying that because she doesn’t know that boys life. After all, if the business is so successful why can’t she buy another pair of strikers? You don’t see pizza machine doing that!!! And they are “successful.” Third of all the I.D. rule seems ignorant due to the fact it excludes groups of people who would otherwise be unable to play. Such as people who don’t drive, immigrants, etc. If you are able to pay you should be able to play with Or without an I.D. I sympathize with the boy. I will be telling my friends about the bad experience I had today.
Lots of the same junk you can get in any tourist trap. The old video games/pinball machines looked fun but most didnt work except to take your token. There are a lot of old toys and stuff to see that is fun but the rest is cheesy.
I like all of these antique stores down in the Old Market. There are some great finds in these places. I have yet to buy anything from them. I just enjoy looking around. Easy way to kill a few hours.
Unique and exciting place to spend some time! I enjoyed every moment there. It feels like a walk back in time. I guess you have to have an appreciation for memorabilia. From the old school soda & candy to long forgotten toys to Tupperware & Avon housewares to the pinball machines & pac-man games in the arcade, this place has so much going on!
My friend and I, both disabled service animal handlers, were harassed and discriminated against by the manager and the security guard. The manager asked if our animals were service animals and then asked for our paperwork to prove we have service animals, and when we advised her we don’t have any as this is legally not required, she argues that previous service animal handlers have provided this (tip: carrying “registration” is typically a sign of a fake service animal, since there is no legal registration for service animals). We showed her where the ADA information states the two questions businesses can legally ask (The following is copied directly from the ADA website, from their FAQ for Businesses: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the persons disability.), as well as where it states that businesses may not request paperwork, and that registration/certification of a service animal is not required. The manager was advised our animals are service animals and that both perform mobility tasks, and also do psychiatric tasks (which is more information than we are legally required to give. We only need to identify one task). The manager then told us to “keep [the service animals] away from the food” and left. This in and of itself is discrimination, as we cannot be restricted from areas with food.A few minutes later, while we were sitting in a quiet area to allow our animals to perform their tasks to help de-escalate the anxiety that was caused by the manager wanting paperwork and having to show her that this cannot be requested. We were then approached by another employee, who identified himself as security, and proceeded to ask us if our animals were service animals. We advised him we had already been spoken to by the manager, and he informed us that he was the ADA expert, so he was coming to ask.Despite us telling him we cannot be required to answer these questions by multiple employees, and that it is considered harassment to do so, he persisted. We told him that we told the manager they are service animals and provide mobility and psychiatric tasks, but he still persisted in asking us if our animals were emotional support animals or service animals. We advised him this is considered harassment when we have already provided answers to the two legal questions to another employee, but he insisted he was not harassing us and that he needed us to answer his question of whether our animals were service animals or emotional support animals (which, you will note, is not the legal question which business are permitted to ask), even though we had already stated that we told the manager our animals are service animals. He also threatened to throw us out due to my friend becoming upset from this harassment, because her volume naturally escalated a bit due to her distress. He eventually did leave us alone, but the damage and the harassment was already done.I can promise you that we will not be returning and we will be contacting the store’s executive management regarding this discrimination and harassment. I will be warning local service animal handlers to stay away, as well as telling my friends about this experience, as well. If I could give them zero stars, I would.
Stopped in for a second visitMy wife was given the 3rd degree over parking before we could enjoy our visit. The reason for the one star is because of the amount of humiliation we endured. I pride myself on being fair and treating people kindly. My review is my review. Your experience may and probably will be different. However as a Google local guide level 10 who has visited thousands of places and taken thousands of photos . I rarely make a mental note to never return. Again this is just my personal review and am sure most people will enjoy their experience. But for me personally, I recommend that they train their staff a little more on how to communicate to the general public.
Great selection of candy, antique mall portion is pretty limited now.
So much to see! A truly fun & unique place.
Dont go here if youre looking for antiques or have a fear of getting lost. Good place for candy. Pay parking meters are app only which is a pain. This was my first and last visit.
Summary: The nostalgia of this place is great, but the staff makes this place a no-go. Please read on...Im sorry, but if you sell candy in bulk at $15 a pound and I ask to try ONE malt ball to see if I like it to buy it, and your staff says you cant try a sample (literally one piece) in a very rude and childish way, then I guess you dont sell any of it.Seriously, most of the candy here is still sold elsewhere at HALF the cost. The extra price here is not worth it for much of what they have. But the biggest issue, if you want to sell candy at twice the cost, at least be respectful to your customers. Case in point, when another customer asked her what the cost of the Laffy strip was (because a price isnt listed on or near those), she got snotty with an, I dont know and went back to playing with her cell phone.
AMAZING store, they have more candy than Ive ever seen in one place, and a HUGE selection of cool antiques.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. I have come here a couple of times since I was stationed in Nebraska 2 years ago and have had pretty good experiences,. But I never dealed with the employees directly. My family was in town and we stopped by to walk around and get some candy. My 6 year old niece saw this broken down merry-go-round that she wanted to sit on and take a picture. She got on it and I took the picture and as we were getting her off the machine, the security guard or maintenance guy came over and very rudely asked if I can read. I said “yes, why?” And he asked if she was 5 years old or younger and pointed to a crumpled and teared up sign on the ride that said “5 years old or younger only.” My niece is probably no more than 45 pounds. Then I proceeded to apologize and said that we didn’t see the sign, and he said “no, it’s not an apology, it’s common sense, and it’s called reading” It was extremely rude, embarrassing, and unnecessary. I will never come back here.
