It was too busy the first time I stopped in on a Friday evening to complete the sale of my pickup after doing the online offer so I made an appointment for Saturday morning. Although still very busy, all I had to do was check in, talk to a staffer and then wait for a little over an hour until the appraisal was completed on my pickup and then signed it over. Got a check for the same amount as online. Pretty painless. I get the feeling that business there is good, because of all the people coming and going.

Excellent service, great car selection, and the 30day return policy really came in handy. I initially got a jeep Cherokee, but after driving it for a few weeks. I realized it was too small for me, and my needs. With the 30 day return, I was able to bring it back, and get a the vehicle I needed. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5.... Is the finishing touches. They were on the home stretch, but just before the end they fumbled with the wash up. I’m not sure what the use to β€œspruce” the cars up. But it would of been better if they left it alone. With water marks, dirt, and streaks left throughout the inside and outside. Other than that it’s was a great experience.

We did an online offer and set an appointment to come in to get an appraisal and finalize the deal. Upon arrival, the employees seemed completely disinterested in actually working. Counted about 15 there and yet nobody was doing anything except slowly walking around. Our β€œappointment” time was a joke and it took over 2 ours to do a simple appraisal where the offer didn’t change, no buy out etc. They also took care of other people without an appointment who came in after us before us because they were looking to possibly also purchase a car and they wanted to be able to get financing done. Don’t set appointments if you aren’t going to keep them.

Ive always been happy with my experience and service at CarMax. However, my most recent interaction was nothing short of despicable. Made an appointment for appraisal and sale of a vehicle. Its was going to be 30min before closing, and I asked the individual if that was going to be ok since they close at 9pm, and they stated yeah, that Id need done in 30min. I arrived early for the appointment on a hunch it would take longer. Sure enough it was. About 15min for the actual appraisal.......40-60 min to finished the sell-off/purchase. Needles to say, Im not likely to return.

They acted a bit suspicious of me for no reason at all. I was simply trading in my car which I had paid off 1 year earlier. They also sent to me 2 checks for the taxes, but wrote them out to the wrong county which prolonged me to register my car up until the very last minute. Make sure you have your registration money with you when you go to register your car. With them not telling me this information I now have to come up with $442.00 before I can register the car, which means I can possibly get a ticket. If the checks where correct from the beginning I would not now have this issue.

After the tech test drove the car, I was expecting to be able to retrieve all my stuff, but realized it didnt get completely cleaned out. I ended up waiting nearly 40 minutes for them to get out to the car to retrieve everything, because according to the guy at the desk, its a very big lot...

They did allow a 3 day payoff, which was great as I got better financing through my bank. I would recommend CarMax to anyone who desires straight forward service, no fancy amenities.

My sales man Alex was great. But, every time I’ve taken my car in for a repair covered with my extended warranty, my car ends up worse than it began. Whoever drove my car the last time it was on their lot hit something with my front bumper, but because I didn’t notice it right away when I called 3 days later- I was blamed for the damages to my car. I will never deal with car max again.

I was approved for a loan which was amazing but once I got there it was a older gentleman that helped me 70 or 80 years old my experience was horrible with him he talked at me like a old slave master was very degrading I cried all the way home and was very discourage by the choice of word he said as I asked questions to him very sad, and I tried to talk to a young lady about my concerns in hopes for her to match me with someone else but she seem not to care, but the car dealership is a great place approved me for a loan over the internet with in 10 min they gave me a appraisal right a way the staff such no compassion no social skills just want to close there deals and get paid with out putting in the work, retrain your staff is my suggestion to have better social skills and to have better customer service skills, I wonder if my husband would have came with me would he had gave me that some energy if you have a man that will come with you I suggest to bring one along with you to Car max until they know how to treat a lady

We went to CarMax Sunday night to possibly purchase a SUV for my girlfriend. She had already set up an appointment online and was set up for 7pm. When we arrive there at 655pm and enter the store no one was in front to greet us at the front. Then a salesperson came from the back of the store and we told her we had an appointment which she looked up. Then we were told it would be at least an hour wait before they could talk to us. As we look up at the board they had 7 people scheduled for 7pm and it looked like there was maybe at the most 3 sales staff in the building of which no managers or receptionist were not present at all. Waiting an hour or possibly longer when you have a scheduled appointment and they knew we most likely were going to purchase a vehicle is not acceptable. If your store is open til 9pm, you need to have enough staff there to take care of customers. Also, when we told the salesperson we weren’t going to wait, she had no care in the world and no response or apology for us leaving. We won’t be purchasing a vehicle there.

Horrible experience. I transfer a car from Kansas, the car arrived 2 days after I ordered the transfer but it took them two weeks to β€œinspected”. When It was ready I went to look at the car and it took them 5:30 hours to process the paperwork. When I left the lot and got in the highway and the transmission is bad. Now I’m questioning what kind of inspection they did that I took two weeks and they didn’t realize the transmission is bad. This is the last time I buy from them. Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable dealer!

Everything went smoothly. The car was delivered on time. Only issue was that I told 3 different people that the passenger visor had greasy finger prints. I was told that it would be taken care of. When the car was delivered to us the finger prints were still there. I cleaned it up myself.

The initial wait to talk with someone took a bit longer than I like, however, once they were able to appraise my trade and I found a car I liked it was one of the best car buying experiences I have ever had. I also had an excellent experience with the service department. Just a couple of days after buying my car I noticed a wheel bearing going bad. I live 200 miles away and instead of having to drive it back they had me take it to my local mechanic get a quote and have it fixed. It was that easy. My mechanic said it was a good experience and no questions asked, because it was covered under the dealer warranty. I would not hesitate to go back again or hesitate to recommend buying your next car from CarMax

I was very disappointed that the car they insured was up to CarMax standards had a rip in the seat and bald tires one of them won’t even hold air. Thomas in the Omaha location service department corrected everything that was wrong with the car. also giving me a loaner car for my inconvenience. he called every day updating me with what was going on with my car. Once again Car Max didnt let me down.

I must start this review on a good note. I worked with individuals employed by CarMax in Kansas City, on the phone for financing assistance, and my initial sales person in Omaha. I had a car for a 24 hour test drive and decided I was going to purchase the car prior to arriving to my pre-scheduled appointment. When I arrived at dealership, I indicated I had been working with a specific individual and I was here to purchase the vehicle. The individual I spoke with at the check-in desk went to look for my sales person, however I was informed he had gone home sick for the day. The appointment started off alright and I started by sharing with my proxy sales person the issues I wanted to address before leaving with the car. The sales person appeared, at that time, to go start the process of getting the car prepped for purchase. About 5 minutes later, he came back and informed me that the 24-hr test drive requires the car to be brought back with a full tank of gas. I informed him that the person I had worked with the day before did not tell me that was necessary and I asked if it was really an issue since I was purchasing the car and leaving with it that afternoon. The sales person then walked away without saying anything to me, seemingly annoyed with me. He came back after about 5 minutes and said, since the person you worked with yesterday told you wrong, well take care of it. At that point, I was a bit caught off guard that I was being shamed for not being told about a policy that does not make sense if youre going to be driving the car away. It seemed odd that I would stop on my way to purchase a car to put about $5 of gas in the tank to bring it to full. I contemplated leaving the dealership and not buying the car at this point, but since I had already put in quite a bit of effort into seeking out this car and paid to transfer the car to Omaha from Kansas City, I decided to stay and complete the sale, I just needed to sign the paperwork. When the sales person came back I indicated that I had already spoken with financing on the phone and selected the warranty and the other sales person told me I would just need to sign the paperwork and make the down payment. He then said curtly, well its not printed yet, we cant print it until the person is here with the car and ready to purchase. He looked through the paperwork on the computer and noted I was making a $4000 down payment and stated that I would need to use a debit card to make the payment. I informed him that the sales person I had worked with the previous day did share that with me and I was ready to make the payment. He then said, the next step is to go make the down payment and make sure it goes through. I am not sure if this is a statement that is said to every customer, but the way he said make sure it goes through certainly felt like a slight--insinuating there was a possibility my down payment would not go through. We walked back to the sales floor and he told me I could sit wherever I was comfortable. When it was time to sign the paperwork, instead of calling out my name, he stood across the waiting area and waved toward me until he caught my attention and waved me over to him. The woman I signed my paperwork with was wonderful and kind. When the car was ready, we walked out to the car and it had the bow on it, the sales person said, you can take a picture of the car with the bow if you want. So I started walking toward the car to stand next to it and started handing my phone to him when he said, Oh, you want me to take it? I responded saying politely that I could not take a photo of myself with the car and he took the phone from me and took the picture. I am not sure whether the sales person was having a bad day or if my race, age or gender played a role, but it was an overall poor experience. I have been contemplating returning the car, getting my money back, and taking my business elsewhere, but then Im the one who loses in that scenario too.

It is an inevitable to get the feeling that you are getting screwed over any time you car shop. To some extent that is probably true, they will always win.However, this was the simplest car buying experience I have had, and I am pleased with the result. They were professional and quick, not pushy at all. Asked multiple times if there was anything else I would like to look at (I looked online and had just one car that I wanted). I didnt feel like they tried to rush me into a car, if anything I wanted them to go faster.Will probably buy another car from them in the future.

The thing that set us off is an employee named Brenda, openly stated the details as to why our deal didn’t go through in front of other customers. It was the best experience we have had with a car dealership. We were selling our car and got an online quote that we printed off to be taken to the dealership. I was very happy that they inspected the car (we answered the online questions honestly) and they honored the price and didnt try and ding us left, right and center.We then went into their office, signed the title over and received our check. The whole process took a little under an hour and the staff could not have been more friendly. So we spent 4 hours on the phone to get set up on Friday, it is Sunday, we were told to bring in photo ID and proof of insurance. We had an appointment set, We get here and 2 hours later we are still here because they re ran our credit, made us do all the same stuff we already did. Made is call the insurance company to verify insurance, what the deductible is, and when it was added. Then the guy that we were dealing with just laughed when we were frustrated. So now we are 2 hours and 10 minutes into this process, and they are just NOW cleaning out the car once again this was a set appointment, then when they have time, we can re-review the paperwork for the third time and sign papers! My daughter was going to buy a car here but I promise that won’t happen! I truly believe that the positive comments on here are from employees family! I have heard them not only tell us that if we have an attitude (after hour 2) we can just leave and stop the transaction, they told the same thing to another guy who has been here longer than us! 2.5 hours later we can go sign paperwork! God help is with this process! Another 15-30 minutes! The lady doing paperwork is pretty cool (her name is Joyce! Deal with her if you have the chance!)

I went to several dealerships before CarMax, but heard great things from others and decided to check it out. Some people say CarMax is more expensive than used at a dealership or elsewhere, but I was able to find something in better shape and for a better price than anywhere else, which was a great surprise. The warranty is also great and comparable to certified used at a dealership. Also, compared to dealerships, I was able to get a lower financing rate, and they offered me the most for my trade in. Great customer service, and really happy with my new vehicle.

If I had a motivated or an enthusiastic car salesmen, my experience would have been better. Absolutely adore the vehicle but the customer service that I received, was terrible. Kristine, I believe that was her name, was the only one that actually showed she wanted to talk to me. When talking about prices being negotiable, the car salesmen stated they do not do that. Even when I stated their listing for the vehicle was a $1,000 over than what NADA states, he responded we dont associate with that... What does that mean? lol National Automobile Dealers Association, just in case you werent aware what NADA means Trevor. Also, the vehicle was not clean. As you see in the pictures, this is what I went home with. There is even a broken seat... Thank God I have time to reconsider with their 30 day return.

Not sure where to begin, but if you dont know the answer then dont lie Car Max, say something like let me look into this. I gave up a car voluntarily to Car Max back in 2013 to give to Wells Fargo (also a shady business) and the guy at Car Max said we dont do that. Well after a few calls I found out that Wells Fargo sold the title to Car Max in September 2014 for $2000 after calling like 6 times or so. Two shady businesses doing business with each other, who would have thought. Well so they sold the car in 2014 and I tracked this down today not sure where in Iowa. Bottom line is Wells Fargo lied and made no attempt to get in touch with me to pay off the balance but did send me a 1099 8 years later after the limitations ran out racking up a bill, so on top of what I owe they also made $2000 off of Car Max how dirty can you be. There was no reason that they couldnt have contacted me to resolve the issue, I lived in the same house for 22 years with the same phone number. Car Max I give you a stinking 1 for lying yesterday and Wells Fargo you get a stinking stinking double 00 for lying through your teeth now for 2 days. SHAME ON YOU, YOU SHOULDNT BE IN BUSINESS and be allowed to deal with people. You both need some serious overhauling in the art of how to treat people and not to lie. I will never do business with either of you ever again and I will urge folks not to as well. If you want a decent place to go to Car Max and Wells Fargo arent it as they are in bed together!!! :(:(:( If this post is taken down I will post it on YELP.

Below average experience.Pros: large selection nationwide of used carsCons: -Carmax didn’t let me see or drive the car before signing papers to buy it- they lost my appointment between the corporate and local store-they didn’t clean or detail my car before selling it to me-wrote down the wrong odometer reading on half of the papers so I had problems at the DMV when registering-they offered to call me to talk about my experience and the problems I had but never called.Bought a car with them in December 2020 and had an average experience, then in July 2021 we bought our 2nd car from them and it was problematic every step of the way. Unfortunately I can’t say I’d recommend them anymore.

I would give 5 stars but the fact is we had to pay for a vehicle to be shipped and wait several weeks to get it just to test drive, which is fine, but everytime we called about it we were never talking to one single sales person it was always many different people. When the vehicle finally came in we went to test drive it and a sales guy comes out and doesnt even know whats going on . Explaining what you are there for so many times is just frustrating but the process was quick and easy they just need better communication and only deal with one sales person the whole way to the end.

Buying experience was great, trying to use the extended warranty they offer for service almost two years later... not so much. My day started with going to a service appointment only to be told they changed the date to next week without informing me. They then scrambled to get me another appointment, and had my car from 11-330 and did absolutely nothing. After which they called and said they would be keeping the car and giving me rental due to the inconvenience. My mother dropped the car off for me as I was working in another town and when she tried to get the rental car max refused because she isn’t on my insurance, but they knew she would be picking up the car beforehand. This culminated in me being stuck at work 30 miles outside of the city, my mother at car max, and my car at one of their warranty shops. 0/10 would not do again, and I ended up paying out of pocket at another shop to get it done.

Spent $199 to have car shipped from OKC to Omaha, drove 200 miles one way to see and test drive the car. I was looking at a 2015 Corvette (a $54000 car) I asked several people if the car had any chips or scratches I was told NO. When I got to see the car it was DIRTY and wheels had crud on them, upon looking the car over I found scratches on the front after I was told there was nothing. I would think if someone was willing to pay $54000 for a 2015 car the least they could do would be to have it clean. Now the salesman after I complained did say he would get my $199 back we will see. I didnt buy the car because if a dealer cant even clean a car thats very poor I think, Sad thing is I had a check blank with me and was paying cash.

See EDIT: Original one star review left for context.What a mess. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING, gets pushed through their national call center. This wouldnt be an issue if that call center actually knew anything about what was happening at the particular dealership you are working with, but they dont. If you do call your local dealership, they will transfer you back to the call center. If you make more than one call with a single question, you are likely to get different answers. There were some very nice people on the phone, but it doesnt really make any difference if they cant tell you anything.Going into the dealership doesnt really resolve anything, because they simply sign on to the same system that the call center is using. Nobody bothers to actually walk out physically to see if the car is even there, when my question (because I was getting conflicting answers) was whether or not the car had actually shipped as it was supposed to have. Turns out it did, but could anyone be bothered to figure that out? No.In the interest of fairness, I did speak to one business manager who cared enough (and knew the system well enough) to get me some very basic answers, such as whether or not the car was actually on the premises. There we go, one person, and I never managed to reach him a second time.On to the problem with the Title, which was a simple need for a new title because all the lines were full. I live in a same-day state, so for my $35k + $1400 delivery and the fact that I had already exceeded their estimated 3 weeks delivery window I would expect that perhaps they could have someone roll the 3 miles to go get it, and be back in an hour. Expectation met! Sort of. Because it quite literally took them a week and a day to get this done. 8 days, after charging me $1400 for a delivery, to accomplish a task that should have taken an hour. If that isnt dedication to the customer experience, I dont know what is. Comparing this to the incredibly good experience we had purchasing our Subaru at Baxters a month ago, and it looks even worse (if that is even possible).Sure, Carmax has cars. But if you have any delusions about them giving one single **** about you as a customer, you need to go elsewhere.EDIT: Managed to get away from the national company and call center to begin working with the local store directly. They corrected every issue, refunded my transfer fee due to the delay and confusion, and made some pretty expensive repairs to the car (rims had been damaged by transport truck, so they replaced all 4 rims and the tires). They also made clear the limitations they were working under due to the out of state transfer and the nature of the national enterprise.They did all this quickly, and pleasantly. So... If I could find a way to review Carmax national poorly and still give this particular location an attaboy, I would do so. In the meanwhile, Im going to edit this review to reflect my opinion of the people here.

DO NOT GO HERE. They are very scammy. They said my car has passed inspection and there was nothing wrong with it but the whole electrical system was broken and I had to pay thousands of dollars to fix it after I purchased it. I would give them 0 stars if I could. They sell broken cars and then when you call them they say it’s your fault for buying a broken car.

Excellent buying experience one year ago, so taking your money, they are great. Selling however, not so much. They offered me $1500 under the online quote and stated that while the car was good, they said I β€œmisrepresented” my vehicle as a sedan when it is a hatchback during the online quote, I explained I had done it twice and thought it strange that I’d mess it up twice. I went back in and re-did another online quote in office because I couldn’t believe that I’d mess up the selections once, let alone twice (after driving 2 hrs to get there), come to find out, they don’t give you the option to select hatchback, it *only* lets you choose sedan, so nothing was messed up on my end. I explained this to the customer service agent, who only said he’d β€œlet someone know”. Of course, people selling their cars have probably already purchased a new one, Carmax knows what they’re doing and they know they’ve got you by the you-know-what’s when they do these offers. Super misleading. I really liked my initial buying experience with Carmax, but unfortunately won’t be back after this. This was too shady for my tastes... limit the options to only what must be the priciest models to force people to select it, only to not only come down in the price when they arrive, but to blame it on the customer’s β€œmisrepresentation”? What a joke.

Then I was suddenly informed the vehicle I was buying was sold to someone in Kansas City. Worst Experience I ever had purchasing a car. The old Bait and Switch was used first with the vehicle I chose, it was misrepresented as something it wasnt. Wrong options, wrong motor, thus wrong price ect. I caught most of them before I bought the car, however not the motor size which was the reason for purchasing that specific model. CarMax owned up to it, and offered to ship in a different vehicle that met my chosen options. They shipped it in and took 2 weeks, only to have the title lost to that vehicle so they wouldnt even let me look or test drive that, and offered to find yet another vehicle. AT this point it was 5or 6 weeks later. I said I wanted a refund. (I did not finance this car). It then took me 2+ weeks to get my money back all with a mountain of lies and deception on why it was taking so long when it was expedited. I would strongly recommend NOT working with them. They are a bit shady although they like to give the appearances of quality. All the managers I spoke to were standoffish and not helpful. They original sales person was very accommodating and helpful but had no pull in anything. Cant get an answer from anyone from the Corporate office. Deal with a dealer locally. Do not deal with Carmax.

Our sales person was very helpful when working directly with him in person. He was fairly responsive when we initiated the request to have the vehicle sent to the local location. However, when I followed up with him with a question regarding the vehicle, once we purchased via paying cash, he never responded. This lack of follow-up is very disappointing. I love the vehicle, so it isnt a huge issue, but I do feel follow-up afterwards needs to be better, especially given they offer a 7 day return policy, and I followed-up before the 7 day window was expired, and he did not reply at all. It has been over two weeks, and he still has not responded to me.
