Folks who work here are nice and knowledgeable, but Ive had a terrible experience with trying to get a simple repair completed. I went in with a busted wheel on a road bike, estimate is a few days to get a new part ordered and attached (which I could do at home). I come back a week later, no wheel, no particular reason given why, no updates to me that theyre running behind, estimate is another week. Another week later, Ive called but cant get through to check on the status so I come by the store, the part still isnt there, again no warning, couldnt get a hold of anyone on the phone. Since then Ive called several more times, each time the estimate for completion pushed back a few days. Finally, the wheel has arrived, but I get an email telling me that they had ordered the wrong type of wheel, the correct one was twice as expensive as I was originally quoted and that they can order that instead. I send them another email, very frustrated, telling them to order the part. I call back again a couple days later, find out the part still hasnt been ordered and that it will now be another week (its been over a month total by this point). I ask if theyre willing to expedite with no promises except that theyll be in touch, which Ive heard every time Ive had to call them to no avail. Extremely frustrating situation to be put in where delays happen piecewise, nothing seems to proceed without multiple contacts to the store staff, and any form of communication except showing up in person is unreliable. Id like to like this place because staff are very nice and have done good work, but this level of disorganization is completely crippling to getting anything completed.
Sadly, I am to give this place a two-star due to a series of unhappy experiences since 2020, from purchasing the first bike until the accessory for the third one. From the beginning to the end, basically for every order made I had to call at least once to get it straighten out. Most of the orders were done in the store and paid in full without discount except one online order. For the first bike I was initially told someone would call me back in certain time frame. So I waited until time has passed two weeks of the promised date. The person answering the call sounded like something went wrong and put me on hold for quite some time. Eventually I was told the order was forgotten (really??). They did correct it by doing another order immediately, but that was another few months to wait for, and I had been desperately waiting to be able to bike around with my family. This is not the end of the story as I ended up calling for the second time without getting my bike! This time I got to talk to a store manager and was promised to secure a bike for me. A few weeks later I finally got what they promised, though with much delay. For the second bike I purchased, similar things happened again. This time I called earlier as I had this feeling things would not be so straightforward. It was indeed forgotten again even though I paid in full. Another order was done immediately to remedy the mistake, just that this time the price was $20 more. I did not notice that until I picked up the bike from the store. I asked the reason and was told that the manufacture increased the price. I was not willing to pay the extra as it’s not my fault they messed up the order. Reluctantly they corrected the invoice. Later we purchased a bike rack in store and had it installed at the same time without more issue. For the third bike, it was once again forgotten. The last interaction with them was for the bike rack installation. I first ordered the rack and a pannier online and had them delivered to the store. The rack was ready pretty soon. I waited for the pannier to arrive so that I would not need two trips. But the pannier never did. I eventually went online and checked the status. I found my pannier was sitting in a parcel locker in Burlingame. So another call to the store and I was told to call an online number for help. The online person said there was a mistake for the delivery place but he would have the pannier transferred to the Palo Also store. He sounded like I put the wrong store in the order (The order confirmation clearly says “Shipping Palo Alto Pickup at Store”). I did not say anything since he promised to correct it after that statement. I was told there would be another email notification about ready to pickup. I never got that notification. I ended up calling the store again and found out that they could not find the pannier anywhere. They quickly corrected their mistake. This time it was sent directly to my home address. Apparently something is wrong with the online ordering system. Then it’s time to go to the store and had the rack installed. To my surprise they charged us the installation fee. We were told at the time purchasing the first bike that the future maintenance would be free of labor charge, and that we only needed to pay for the parts. I called the store one more time and asked if the policy changed or their employee said the wrong thing. I was told the policy was never like that and the employee was trained. I was speechless.
The kids who work there seem really nice but they could use some supervision. Last year, I was sold a bike with the gear indicator broken that took almost a year to fix. And then fixing a pedal recall took 9 days for which I got a different update status for each day I called.
Great service and helped me pick a bike that suited my needs and budget.
They had a very poor organization. I went there and bought a bike and was told it would be two weeks. After two weeks to call to get the eta on my bike. I was told the real eta was 2 months and I had been lied two. In addition the two month eta had been expanding to three months .There was no call at any point to inform me of these changes. I suggest you continuously call and confirm there eta if you want a bike from here
This is definitely the best bike shop in Palo Alto. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful and do things above and beyond. I especially want to shout out Galen and Dmitry for being such great technical help on my track bikes. Definitely come here if you have any questions or want to get into cycling.
Very very happy with my purchase. Of course, its difficult to be unhappy when you get a 10% discount stacked on top of an additional $300 off. So the price (that I paid), absolutely cannot be beat. You likely wont get such a steep discount, though. So perhaps youd be more interested in the service instead.I came in on a Saturday afternoon with my father, looking for a bike that he could ride around our white picket fenced suburban neighborhood. But we didnt just come. We came with questions. A lot of them.Whats the difference between disk brakes and diskless brakes? We want an FX1, but wed also be happy with a Verve 1. Can you tell us the pros and cons of each? Why is there a little sticker that says bluetooth on the online picture? The cashier was incredibly patient and kind, even though some of our questions were probably easily google-able. He took out at least 3 or 4 bikes for us to try out before we finally settled on this white Verve 1 Disc Low Step. It was the perfect bike for us. Because of the low step, both my mom and my dad would be able to ride it. And its my moms favorite color. Thanks for helping us pick it out!
Company advertised components for sale online that werent actually in stock. Company charged my credit card immediately, while the credit back to my card takes 3-5 business days.
I normally dont write a lot of online reviews...but in this case I have to. With the ongoing bicycle shortage, I finally found the road bike I had been looking for at Summit Bicycles. I live in MN. However, the team at Summit made the purchase and shipping process SUPER easy and were great to work with. But thats not why Im writing this, because I think real character shows when things DONT go right. When the bike arrived, it had some cosmetic scratches on the the front wheel and a clear coat chip. Dimitri at Summit responded to my concern in amazing fashion...he is shipping a new wheel to me, and then I can keep the old wheel to cover the cost of clear coat repair. WOW!! When you can make a purchase from thousands of miles away and get service like this...thats awesome. Lets just say if you live in Palo Alto, you have an awesome bike store to take advantage of. THANK YOU Summit!!
We are very pleased with our bikes. I didnt even recognize my bike lol.
Really excellent service here, especially from Galen. Thanks so much Galen for taking so much time to help me with my bike repair!! Extremely professional job and strongly recommend this place
Nicest bike store in the area! client driven and bike lover staff.
Marcus is the MAN!11/2020-2nd visit. Tuned my gears and theyre smooth as butter. So knowledgeable about their products.10/2020-First time customer and first shop was to wanted me to leave for 2 days. Sorry. So, took a chance and stopped by Summit which was my best decision of the day! He not only quickly adjusted my derailleur but also explained what the issue was because I actually enjoy learning and DIY. He was so friendly and professional. Im a long time customer going forward and recommending to my bike buddies!
They have a variety of bikes available in store along with all the biking gear. The biking gear does seem to be a little expensive. They also offer excellent maintenance for the bikes, I got my punctured tire repaired in under 10 minutes. The staff is kind and knowledgeable.
These guys know what they are doing and did a great job on my bike! Knowledgeable staff and great service. Definitely recommend if you have problems with your bike.
Worst experience ever. ETA of a bike was delayed for multiple times. Whenever I called, I got an exact same answer being promised a bicycle in a couple of weeks. After waiting for 2 months, Ive visited the store in person. The store staff told me that they have made a mistake while putting the order 2 months ago. Why are you telling me about this now?
We couldnt be more pleased with the service our daughter received from Summit Bicycles! Fantastic customer service, going above and beyond to ensure she was safe after the bike we ordered wasnt a good fit. We highly recommend Summit Bicycles and their staff. They gave this mom piece of mind, making sure my college student was safe, and my daughter couldnt be happier!
Most kids that work here are nice. Things arent cheap to begin with, and with covid-19, they cant keep up with the demands. But dont be shy to ask about what kinds of discounts or promotions they have, or youll be paying like a fortune like $50/$70 easily for a cushier seat for example.
Amazing experience -- I walked in on a busy Saturday with some minor issues on my mountain bike, waited for a few minutes and met with Dimitri who figured out what was wrong instantly. He ordered some parts and they had my bike ready in 2 days. I even brought my road bike in a week later with an idea of what was wrong, they informed me it was actually something else ... had I tried to fix it myself I would have wasted a lot of time and money!I cant recommend this place enough, they have knowledgeable staff and their prices are fair.
If you recently moved to the Bay Area, this is THE PERFECT place to get your first bike. They have very friendly staff, high quality of customer service, and also provide FREE maintenance. A shout out to Alex, who is a pro cyclist and is really awesome!! Went out of the way to fix my bike and taught me some handy tips.. Highly recommended!!
Great laid-back service. Knowledgeable. Great stock of a variety of bikes - hundreds. Rory set up the bike I wanted, gave me a helmet and sent me out for a test ride. He was able to suggest the mods needed to customize the bike for me. Lots of great bike stores in the area. This is one.
Summit bicycles is the best bike shop i ever had the experience of doing business there. Awesome and knowledgeable staff, excellent service and great products. Definitely would recommend!!!
Stopped by the store looking for advices on what bike to get and had a great experience. Marcus was super knowledgeable and patience in explaining basics to a beginner like me looking for a first bike and confused about the zillion of offerings on the market.
Helpful and friendly staff
Great products and helpful staff
Great service. Fast and friendly and the techs really knew what they were doing! Definitely going back for future repairs
I’ve had great experiences here and they’ve treated me well. I’ve brought my mountain bike in for tune ups on my lunch break and they usually have my bike ready in 1-2 business days. The people here are friendly and are patient with my questions and provide suggestions to keep my bike maintained and fun.
Recommended by the PA Chamber. Friendly service and knowledgeable.Didnt feel like we got a while lot of attention, despite being one of the few folks there (maybe because it was close to closing time?).But in the end, we were happy with our new bike (20 Trek, with one free service).
Ask Dimitry, he is very experienced mechanic, very resourceful, he will always find a solution to help you!
I love this shop. The mechanics are top notch and nice. The sales staff is the same. They carry great products too. I highly recommend them to anyone from the low to the very high end.
I have never had a single good experience. When I came in to purchase my bike a year ago I knew exactly the model I wanted and where it was in the store. It took the employee over an hour to figure out how to ring it up and he refused to ask anyone for help. They really brag about their free tune ups so after three months I called to schedule one and they told me I could come in the next morning and it should be done by the evening. When I came in the bike team made a huge fuss about not making an appointment when I had literally been told otherwise the night before. Not a big deal, maybe a one off. A year later, I call ONE WEEK in advance to schedule a tune up and appointment. Weirdly, they never asked me for any information. I drop off my bike the next day and come back 8 hours later to find out they haven’t even moved my bike from where I dropped it off. They tell me they’ve put it at the top of their queue for the next day. Surprisingly, I call the next day at 4 pm and they tell me they still haven’t touched it and to come by in an hour. In a too-comic-to-be-true event, I come back in an hour to be told that they still have not gotten around to doing the TEN MINUTE TUNE UP. By this point, I’m resigned to literally waiting in the store because obviously, unless I provide a physical or verbal reminder they won’t be doing anything. They told me they’d have it done in a half hour. One hour later I’m still waiting. The most unprofessional, incompetent team I have ever met. They are so many bike stores in the area. Don’t be an idiot and go to one with as poor and incompetent of a service team as Summit Bicycles in Palo Alto. They have no idea what they’re doing and will waste entire days of your time.
Stopped by after work for a few minor repairs. The service was quick and staff really friendly and I was really delighted that they didnt want to charge me for the work! Ill definitely be back when its time to upgrade!
The chain on my bike snapped as I was leaving work ☹️ so I was looking for a place in the area to put on a new one. Summit just opened on Cal Ave, which is very convenient since I work in the area. I walked my bike in, and 10 minutes later I was riding out with a new chain installed. Service was quick, courteous, and seemed reasonably priced (though I have no experience price shopping for this).Welcome to the neighborhood! Ill probably be back, hopefully not too soon for a repair though
Loved this place. The people were super friendly. They were patient with a novice like me and explained everything in detail. Both Rick and Alex were great to talk to and they helped me pick out a bike within my budget.
I just bought a bicycle here. I liked the shop and the people I met on staff. The selection of bikes was good and they were able to get the special items that I wanted.
Bought my Emonda there. The process of renting a bike to try and then purchasing was seamless. The staff knew their stuff and were able to help me decide which bike to buy out of the two I had picked out with my intended goal for riding. They also have a excellent repair staff and good prices.
Ordered a bicycle from them over a month ago and after multiple emails and phone calls and being promised a bicycle in a couple of days, nothing.Their online staff dont return calls and the store staff have no clue. So much for trying to support a local business.
I had to get a bike boxed up in a hurry. I called them by 5:30 pm and needed it by noon the next day. Other bike shops had no room in their schedule, but Summit Bicycles helped me out despite being busy themselves, and despite the fact that they closed at 7 pm and did not reopen until 11am, leaving them only a small window to get it done. They were super friendly about it, and got it done before the agreed time and called me right away. They came rushing out with the boxed bike as soon as they saw me driving into one of their back door parking slots. Excellent service!
Thank you for your prompt reply Rory and professional service today in resolving my issue in the shop.
Very poor manager, and not helpful. Never buy a bike from them.
Alex chatted bikes like no one ive met at a store before. Knowledgeable and simply stoked to connect people w a great bike. Keep it up!
They have a large selection of bikes and accessories and people are genuinely helpful. Recommend!
Just bought my Santa Cruz Hightower here. Ryan and the team are fantastic. Super friendly and fantastic service.
I rented a mountain bike for the day and unfortunately got 2 punctured tyres on a trail. I called a UberXL to get back to the shop, and not only they did not charge me for the tyres but they offered me to take a new bike or a partial refund. Very customer friendly, I will come back
On the phone with TREK HQ with a major issue that another shop failed to fix after numerous visits and the technician that works at TREK recommends Summit. Im headed there shortly !! Its a good sign when Corporate recommends you as there go to !!
Quick service, very friendly staff, and very high quality work. Yeah, it isnt exactly discount rates (as another reviewer complains) but hey this is Palo Alto, what do you expect. They did a full tune-up and replacement of key parts on my 2012 Norco Sight and everything feels top notch, almost felt like the 5-year-old bike was brand new when I hit the Soquel Flow Trail today. When they were working on the bike they mentioned things they thought could also be replaced/changed out but never put any pressure on me whatsoever, just brought things up they noticed and let me decide, which I really appreciated. Would definitely recommend this place.
Bought a new Trek bike from here. The tube quality was so poor that it developed a puncture in two days. I checked that there was no thorn or nail in the tire. The bike also has this annoying clicking sound. I asked about the sound but they told me this was a feature of the bike. My other Trek bike does not have this sound.
Great service, very kind and helpful, did not charge me anything for fix a few little problems!
Very friendly and helpful, great customer service!
Great store with lots of expertise on new bikes as well as maintenance. Extremely helpful staff
Not very satisfied with the service from the shop. The recommendation from the shop didnt work out and ended up paying the service fee.
Loved
Shop staff is friendly but thats where the positives end. Recently relocated to the area without my bike tools. Needed some quick help with a tubeless tire bead. 5 minutes of service and was charged a discounted rate of $10. Was told it would have costed $50 to put two tubeless tires on. Ive bike all around the country and this is an obvious case of knowing the people in the area have a lot of money. I personally wouldnt go back but words of wisdom if you do, ask for prices first. You can buy a new bike for the same price they charge for a tune-up.
Poor unprofessional staffThe service guy ( Gilbert) was Very very rudeI asked to speak to a manger he said okay but you have to wait then he said hes not here i dont know if he come back any time soon maybe a day maybe a week
Simply the best bike shop in the SF Bay Area!
Excellent service and a good selection of bikes. Parking is tight in the front, but you can usually find a spot in the back parking lot.
** WARNING **DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE HERE FOR SERVICEUpdate: I got my bike back from Summit 44 days after I dropped it off. They still wanted to charge me $80 for parts. I said I would like the entire thing free, but we ultimately settled on the fork for free. So $170 was refunded to me, which seems fair. You can see the owner contacted me below - thru email he just kept asking me what would you like me to do about this issue? The onus isnt on me to improve your shop dude. Figure it out.***Ill try to make a long story short. I took my FS mountain bike here Nov 22nd because I needed a shock and fork damper rebuild. Its been 41 days and Summit Bicycles still has my bike. If youre into doing your own maintenance, youll know a damper rebuild can take a couple hours, if you have the tools and parts. I just got off the phone and they told me it would be another week.Summit Bicycles sent my shock in to Fox, but did the fork rebuild themselves. Well, tried to do the rebuild is more accurate - first they waited 10 days to even start working on it. Then they took a couple more... called and said it was done... sent me on my way about 2 weeks after I came in. But that night I could tell there was a problem w/ the fork. It seemed to have air mixed with the damper oil, and the lockout didnt work anymore.I returned it the next day, they held it for another 2 weeks. Doing what? Trying to successfully bleed the damper, according to them, though Im not sure why that takes another 2 weeks.Next they sent the fork to a service center in Reno, and that was 2 weeks before Im posting this on Jan 2. Theyve called me maybe two times during this process, while Ive called them every few days to try to get updates. Ive heard a lot of excuses about being busy, RockShox sending the wrong part (didnt you order it?), and things like that. This is probably the worst customer service Ive experienced in my life, no joke. They did eventually give me a loaner bike, so Ill give them credit for that. But it was pretty beat up and had a busted dropper. So not enough to get out of 1-star territory. If my bike is ever done, Ill expect a full refund. The mechanic at Summit clearly didnt know how to rebuild the fork. If it wasnt already obvious by the botched job, he mentioned he was surprised at the number of parts in the RockShox rebuild kit. Im so glad my fork could be your training tool.----------If youre interested in the technical details. The mechanic seemed to think something went wrong with the bladder bleed and tried several times to do it over again. When he finally sent the fork in, they discovered that the top cap assembly had not been put together correctly and fixing that resolved the issue. So 6+ weeks because they couldnt figure out how to put together the top cap (black/blue knob with the LSC and lockout).
Daniel is my mechanic, I always get great service
Open over the weekend and even on Labor day!. They fixed the flat tire and then a mnii- tune-up all in less than 30 minutes.
Great service, great place to buy a bike. Lifetime tune up!
Super bad clerk, making me wait for one hour.
Wont come back here for repairs.
Nice and friendly service
Smooth experience

Just to change a brake wire would cost $ 20 materials + $ 30 labor, only $ 2 on Amazon, ten times the price is really dark.
