Excellent organic BREADS. My only complaint is that Allegro used the COVID Lockdown to revamp its business model. Its now Vegan - so no more delicious Pumpkon Custard Pie, Pastries with cream fillings. You can order online now for Pick-Up the same day or order something in advance. This is very convenient.

Truly A Must Visit/ Must Delight In/ Must Give Thanks For Bakery. We are lucky to have some wonderful bakeries in The Burgh. Allegro has been in my top five since I moved here in 2005, and now with their fully revamped/totally plant-based menu, they have become my favorite. Before their vegan-revamp, I always adored their bread (best olive bread in Pittsburgh then and now); and now I am obsessed with their pastries--particularly their cookies (just tried their maple-pecan: so good), their babka, and their rugelach. They have the most buttery vegan butter perhaps possible.

Like everyone else, Allegro Hearth had to close at the beginning of the lockdown. They spent their downtime reinventing and when they recently reopened, their menu was all vegan. I just got back there for the first time since their reopening and am absolutely blown away by the quality of their baked goods. I didnt think it was possible, but theyve actually gotten better!! This is a cruffin and I am completely obsessed with them - its croissant dough baked in a muffin pan. Crunchy and sugary on the outside, moist and fluffy on the inside, made with vegan butter developed by the owner. I also bought a sea salt brownie that is one of the richest, most satisfying brownies Ive ever had. Cannot recommend enough!!!!

WOW! Carrot cake 10/10, bread 10/10, banana nut muffin 12/10!!! The only thing we weren’t a fan of was the oatmeal cookie, it had an overwhelming taste of something (nutmeg?), we didn’t enjoy.

I stopped by on a whim after a Google search for a nearby vegan bakery, but I will definitely be a loyal customer after today. I got a double chocolate cake which was very rich and delicious, plus a danish. Even better, they were so friendly and helpful! I was happy to buy from them. I recommend Allegro Hearth to everyone, even non-Vegans, as they are a Squirrel Hill gem.

Allegro hearth really is quality. The choices they make, the options that they serve. The recipes that they offer, really are wonderful and quality. Why is it only got a two star, is because I had gotten violently ill after I ate something that I bought from there. I dont want to officially discourage people from going, because theres 99.9% wonderfulness when it comes to what they produce. But I just did get food poisoning from something that I ate from there. Now that was awful. But truly, outside of that one terrible, miserable experience, would I stop buying things from Allegro Hearth? No. Im just not going to get that one particular product.

This newly all-vegan bakery is incredible! I have gone multiple times since they reopened a few weeks ago because it’s that good. I can’t stay away. I would recommend everything but you can’t go wrong with a chocolate croissant, a slice of chocolate cake, or a cinnamon roll. Definitely a new favorite spot!

I really like this bakery. When I’m nearby I might stop by and grab a pastry or two. Their prices are surprisingly reasonable (an eclair for 2.50?). The quality of their baked goods is reasonably solid, but don’t expect anything mind-blowing. I have yet to try their bread though.

Allegro Hearth has delicious artisan breads and rolls and dessert items such as brownies, gigantic cookies, pies, and other pastries. No birthday cakes. No tables. It is not a cafe. Service is prompt and courteous. Parking for quick pick-up almost always available on the street by the store or in the driveway at the rear.

Bread is meh and every type tastes the same despite different names and shapes, like the same generic base is used. Employees are incredibly short and bordering on rude, and despite the opportunity, they carry no local products or regional ingredients. 2nd Star is only for the brownies, which are decent, but not enough to warrant a special trip. Shop small, shop elsewhere.

1970s was a student at CMU. Just a block away from my apartment on Hobart St. J&L, USSteel still operating, but this neighborhood smelled like fresh baked bread. We would buy a few loaves out of the back in the middle of the night. A treasured memory. Anyone know if this is the same business?
