Son is getting drum lessons here. Great experience
Wonderful music shop. They are always knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Great selection given their limited floor space and all of the instruments are in tune and ready to try. Electric and Acoustic Guitars, bases, mandolins, ukuleles adorn the walls with amps, pedals and the like all in good supply. They also have some used gear towards the back. And, their prices are great! One of my favorite things about this place is they arent piping in background music to drown out my playing. And, they even showed interest when I brought my acoustic guitar in to try out 30+ guitar picks to see if I actually favor the picks Ive been using for 20 years. Turns out, I dont and switched to a new brand and weight after being able to carefully listen to what they did to my instrument. The guy running the shop that day had never seen anyone try out picks for sound and said he was going to recommend that to his other customers.Ive been using them as my main guitar shop for about 5 years and they have served me very well.
I used to go to this shop as a mainstay and always ended up leaving with something sickeningly better than what I went in looking for. I’d recommend them over anybody, period.
The best set up you can get and amazingly affordable. Jason cares more than any small business owner and understands the effort local musicians put into their craft, that’s why he always goes above and beyond. Can’t miss shopping here.
I had one of my guitars set up by Jason at BSG (strings, cleaning, new pickups, etc.) I have to say, Im blown away by this place. You wont find better customer service, value for your money, or staff knowledgeability. Ill be brining all my guitars to Backstage from now on, because Im fairly certain no one can match the service and attention to detail that they provide.
Such an amazing store! I broke my high e string on my guitar a month ago, I came in, and Ryan demonstrated how to change a string for me. They are very friendly, even though they are expensive. I like Backstage Guitars, and I would definitely go back. They have a great selection, too.
Best guitar repairs in the city. Hands down!
These guys are very helpful and knowledgeable. And very reasonably priced. I had them do setups on all my guitars and basses. Always very nice work and very cheap. $25 a set up! Awesome! I had taken my stuff to Pittsburgh Guitars on the South Side and they were smug, unhelpful and expensive. They wanted to charge me $50 + dollars to install an under saddle pickup. Backstage did that to two of my guitars for $70. Im glad they are so nearby.
Great experience! I called about 15 minutes to close on a Saturday needing a part for my bass. They had the part and sold it to me and installed it even after their supposed closing time. Excellent time they saved the day.
We were referenced to BSG by a friend after having our bass head blow while on tour from Texas. Jason Lee was able to take the amp in and repair it for us overnight so we were able to continue onto the next city with working gear. 11/10.
This is the best music store in Pittsburgh or any place for that matter, MR Cook is a smart man and knows his stuff. I look forward to my trips their and am very happy with all I bought there. I found an odd 335 type guitar no one had, MR Cook knew all about it and had it in stock. Just cant beat that.DR Kevin P Moore
Ive always wanted to learn how to play guitar, but Im a lefty and my parents were never able to buy me a guitar. Finally got a left-handed guitar 5 years ago. Its not the best, beginner acoustic, but not bad to start with. Tried to teach myself online, which is very hard when you have absolutely no musical background. Took a class at CCAC, which helped a little, but I knew that I needed more.On a whim I e-mailed Backstage Guitars, just to see if I could get some lessons. They are close to my house. Ryan e-mailed me back very quickly and we set up a weekly 30 min. lesson, later in the day which works great with my schedule!Hes really good, not just at playing guitar, but he feels you out and figures out your strengths and weaknesses. Then he writes out chords, songs, tabs, etc. to go home with you. That is your homework. Challenging, yet doable. If you are struggling with anything between lessons, just shoot him a text and hell send you a sound clip or tips or whatever you need.Ryan pushes you just enough to convince you that you can do it, but its still fun. I love that he always compares my progress to how I played the week before. That sounds way better than last week! LOL. I need these little reassurances. They really help. And I never feel rushed. Yeah, may have taken me an extra week or two to learn that, but Im getting it. And I always leave my lesson in a good mood, like I accomplished something! Even if I am only competing against myself! :D
Amazing selection of strings, strap locks, and pedals. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
I have nothing but good things to say about these folks! They are reasonably priced and friendly. Thanks for all of the great work!
Got a setup done. It was decent. Have cool, somewhat eclectic gear including Reverend.
Was able to walk in, tell the gentleman at the counter what I needed, and be on my way in a minute or less, without having to spend more than I wanted to. Great experience.
Very friendly and knowledgeable folks with a limited but excellent collection of guitars and amps.
Great selection of guitars, relatively decent pricing, friendly service.
:) so happy with bass set up! accomodating and efficient business.
Great place! They were able to help me out with a weird esoteric amp project which now sounds awesome!
