The cup is an actual adult coffee shop for Ball State students and the community of Muncie. Its usually never too crowded, and the service is usually quick. The drinks and food are definitely quality. Its nice to be in an adult atmosphere after being in some freshman classes. If youre tired of all the noise at the student center Starbucks, try the cup.

Absolute worst experience in a coffee shop. My two friends went in today and one of the had a cup of coffee from another establishment that she tried to throw away before entering but couldnt because it wouldnt fit in the trash can. They chose to still attempt to purchase a drink from the establishment, and after the one with coffee was asked to leave (and did), the friend that was ordering a coffee was met with unrelenting harassment about the outside beverage. The drink wasnt even inside the restaurant anymore but they couldnt just let it go and make the coffee. After constant reiterations about policy and whatnot, the parting message for my friend (a paying customer who was merely associated with the person who committed the heinous policy violation) was thanks for playing. And the prize for the game? The worst, most burnt cup of coffee she has ever had. Overall the drinks and food are overpriced and mediocre at best, and none of us will ever go back.

Not too much has changed at this tried-and-true Ball State meeting spot. Called The Empty Cup when I was a local resident years ago, this cafe has maintained its small town feel with its big city taste! I had a frozen blended drink on my visit that put all others to shame. The service was top-shelf and I was more impressed that despite a line of at least 6-deep, with people ordering food AND drinks, there was only one guy on duty. But, he handled like a pro and his attitude was second to none as he served quickly, safely, and with a smile. Since they got rid of Dill Street, this all thats left from back in the day, and thats alright.

I used to go here for coffee and studying. However, the service just gets worse and worse. The few times I’ve seen the owner he’s been rude and off-putting. The employees never seem to want customers there, and have a bad attitude when they do interact with customers. The coffee itself is sub-par at best and very overpriced for such mediocre coffee. Their food is underwhelming and bland- bagels are tough and dry. Would not recommend if you value nice people and decent coffee- there are much better places to get coffee in Muncie, like perhaps a dumpster:)

Even though I was with someone who bought something and my friends had been eating there.... sorry I didn’t want anything to eat or drink???? I’ve gone in before and used the restroom by myself. It’s because it’s a Saturday and the owner (or whoever the bald man was) only cares about profit. If I could give negative stars I would. This is absurd.

Ive been coming to the Cup since 2003, back when it was the MT Cup and I lived in Muncie. Now I love stopping by whenever Im in town; it takes me right back to college and some of my favorite memories. Thus, I was really disappointed by my experience this past Friday, Oct. 16, around 10:00 a.m. Dont get me wrong: the food and coffee were fantastic. My problem was with the customer service. I was so upset by the quality of service that I waited several days to post this, so I could be calm about it. The attitude of the barista was beyond bad; it was hostile. I hadnt ordered breakfast there in years, so I had some questions about ordering a breakfast sandwich. Each question was met with impatience and a flatly rude directive that Its on the board. She said, Its on the board, three times during our visit: once about the sandwich itself, once about the vegetable options, and once when my friend asked about coffee syrups. I should clarify that only 4 other customers were in the entire restaurant, and no one else was waiting to order. While we still enjoyed ourselves, and the food was hot and fresh, I still regret that I tipped anything at all. I love this place and plan to keep coming back when Im in town, but I hope the service is friendlier next time.

I really enjoy the coffee at The Cup! It has great flavor, but the past couple of times I’ve gone, the service has not been good. There was one staff who was not welcoming and a little rude. I waited for quite a while wondering if they had seen me walk in because they did not acknowledge me. When they were ready to take my order, I was asking simple questions about flavors and coffee sizes and she was not kind about answering them and made me feel like an inconvenience for asking. There was no one in line behind me, so I wasn’t being inconsiderate. This is not the first time it has happened and I find that very discouraging and disappointing. It’s going to be a while before I go back there again.

I have been to this coffee shop a few times before to study and do homework because it’s right in front of my apartment and I like the atmosphere of it. I don’t usually buy anything, first because I’m a broke college student and second because I am gluten free and I’m very picky about the things I eat. Today I was sitting there writing a paper with my headphones in and I brought my own yeti of sweet tea to drink while I sat there. This man that has never bothered me in my prior visits comes to me and asks if he can get me anything, like I thought he was being nice. I said “no thank you I’m just doing my homework”. He proceeds to tell me that it defeats the purpose of coming to a coffee shop with you’re own beverage and that if I’m not going to buy anything I need to pack up my bag and leave. Didn’t know a poor girl with an allergy wasn’t allowed on your property, but I will be back to sit and do my homework.

Well I did like the place but now Im kinda worried about going back. I was getting a gift card for my friends birthday (not knowing if they had any or not) and a coffee. The guy working there at the time was friendly and patient with me when I was ordering everything but as soon as he got to making the gift card (yes, MAKING, not just putting money on it. Getting a piece of paper, write the amount and the shop name on there with fancy-ish lettering, and putting tape around it. He couldve just said that they dont have gift cards.), he was cursing under his breath and slamming things down as soon as he was done with them. I asked if everything was alright and he just kinda gave me a rude response under his breath like Sure, why wouldnt I be?, then slammed the gift card down on the pick up counter like There, gift card.. I said thank you and I left. The kicker here was that I wasnt the only one there. There was another guy there that was waiting to order and saw the whole thing. I was close to crying because I kept thinking that it was something that I done. That kind of attitude about making a gift card when you could just say that you dont have any is not good to have around people with anxiety. Kinda hesitant to go here now.

As a college student, the village is convenient. This place seemed like a great place, so I had assumed. I made the mistake of having outside food at the table I was sitting at in front of this establishment. There was no sign indicating this was wrong, therefore, it was an honest mistake on my behalf. After almost finishing my food, the owner, Mark, approached me and informs me of the rule of no outside food. I thanked him and apologized for my mistake. In my head, I thought I would just throw away my food and go inside and order a drink so I could continue my Sunday afternoon outside at a table.30 seconds hadnt passed by and Mark resurfaces, telling me, verbatim, when I said that, that meant you needed to leave, right now. Totally rude and unnecessary as I was on my way to the trash can.I would like to point out - customer service is the most important factor a business can have. It is what brings people back to the establishment. As Maya Angelou once said, People wont remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel. I thought that could be a useful tip to the owner and the woman working behind the desk today.I will not be returning and I will be letting all of my allies know about my experience there.

Super rude, male cashier at about 11:45 on 11/11. I will say I think the menu design is creative, but when your menu is just a list of basic drinks without any recommended combinations of flavors, its really important to have someone prepared to help you understand the menu and flavors and what you can put in what drinks. The cashier refused to engage with me even when I indicated I could use some help, however. On top of that, the coffee was about $5 for their smallest size with no flavor shots, and the brew was really not great compared to coffee places of similar/lower price points. The restaurant is split into two halves, one with seating and one where you order. The ordering half is very crowded once you get more than a few people into it, and theres only one three-person bench for seating, so it gets really challenging to tell whos in line to order and whos just waiting for their drinks.Overall, I found it unwelcoming and overpriced and would recommend taking your service elsewhere.

I had been to The Cup a couple times before my last experience, but I will NEVER go again. The service was horrible, the workers and manager at the time was incredibly rude. After they messed up my order and I kindly asked them to remake it, I was told that I would have to repurchase the drink entirely (even though I would only get one). The whole experience was uncomfortable and a disappointment. I also asked if I could put my drink in a reusable cup (because I care about the environment) and they said no because it had a small logo from Starbucks on it. I get that branding is important so I respected that, but I did not respect the way that they handled it. They literally said, “we really don’t even want you bringing that in the cafe, it looks horrible like you can’t stomach our product...it gives us a bad look”. If I was advertising for a different company then I could see why they thought that, but 1) I wasn’t and 2) there were maybe 4 other people in the whole cafe.
