Probably the most traditional bookstore in town. A little small but will have most of the latest books that you might be looking for. Very helpful staff that are always willing to order a book for you. A great stop if youre visiting town and looking for a vacation read.
I love small town bookstores so much. This place didnt disappoint
Unlike the big box bookstore in town River Run can’t do enough to please its customers. Offering advice on books, offers to special order and advice on how to how to enjoy Portsmouth, this is the type of “old school” interaction often missing in the post pandemic, online shopping world. Bravo River Run!
I have always loved RiverRun from there old laptop to their new life on Daniel Street. They staff is always nice and their picks have something for everyone, even this picky reader. While it is easy to just stay online, there is something special about getting help from a friendly face. It is a good feeling being able to flip through your potential great reads, selecting the one that has the most showed the most promise, then heading home with anticipation.RiverRun is a wonderful place to get this experience.
I was so excited to find this wonderful book store. A very nice selection and they will order books . The staff are helpful and very friendly
Small, but they have great choices in store. Anything else can be ordered. Friendly staff.
Ive been here twice, and both times left with purchases. The staff is friendly and helpful. The books are split between $20-25 and $5-7. Needless to say you can spend a lot of money if you arent careful. They had a good selection on current events and books partial to the New England area. Good if you want to get a lay of the land.It is a somewhat small store, and as such they dont have a HUGE variety like Barnes and Noble, but I like to support local businesses. And are nice for browsing to find a book that you were perhaps not looking for but is a wonderful surprise all the same.
This bookstore is a gem. Great selection and service. They did not have the new release I was looking for but have ordered it and will call when its in. Friendly, clean not overwhelming. You may have to hunt up a parking space but Portsmouth is a great place to explore while youre there.
Excellent book recommendation!
Small spot but the staff are very helpful and can help you get the title you need. They have been in several locations over the years and glad they are still open.
Great independent bookstore. The owner (I assume) was super nice and let my daughter pang out some lines on the type writers. Great selection for such a small shop. Amazing displays and atmosphere. Easy to spend time or money here.
The staff are always friendly, and ready to help. I do a lot of book ordering there. They always smile at my strange requests, and I enjoy the feeling of being known there.A good place, and right downtown.
Back in the summertime, I bought a typewriter from RiverRun for a Christmas gift. I just gave it to my friend and she is beyond thrilled! It works well, especially considering it’s from the 1930s! When I was purchasing it, the gentleman who assisted me was incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly. He also assured me that, should any problems arise with the typewriter, we can bring it back in full confidence that they will do their best to fix the problem, which I’m so grateful for. If you’re looking to purchase a typewriter, this is the place to go!
Great little bookstore in downtown Portsmouth! They sell both new and used books. The employee working there was very helpful!
This adorable and quaint shop is under new ownership and management. Theyve done incredible things here! The new owner is a legend in the book world, with decades of experience as the head of books and manuscripts at Christies, so will undoubtedly continue to do really wonderful things in his new storefront.
They have the best steak and cheese sandwich in town. I love it.
The best around. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Great selection
I buy all of my books here. The staff is nice and the store is well supplied. When they dont have something theyll order it for you which is helpful. Definitely my favorite bookstore in the area!
No matter what terror the earth could produce - winds, seas - a person could produce the same, lived with the same, lived with all that mixed-up nature swirling inside, every bit. There was nothing as complex in the world - no flower or stone - as a single hello from a human being.― Lorrie Moore, Birds of AmericaI was walking to work one morning last week, and a man was standing on Fleet Street looking about confused. Seeing me, he asked, Didnt RiverRun Bookstore used to be right here?Yes, I said.It was here when I was last here six months ago, he said. No, it moved a while ago, I said.Where is it now? He asked.Next to Moes, I said. I pointed up the road in the direction of the sub shop. He stood there looking baffled as I continued onto work.RiverRun Bookstore is the citys oldest bookstore of our three independent shops. Nestled initially in Commercial Alley above Gullivers Travels, then onto Congress Street where Life is Good is now, then over to Fleet Street and now up on Daniel Street.RiverRun used to be the only shop in town that held 2-3 author events per week and focused on new books. Now, the shop has a mix of new and used books as well as offering typewriters for sale, or repair services. Additionally, RiverRun is the only bookstore that owns its own publishing company, Piscataqua Press. Many of its staff have gone onto to publishing or reviewing successes.Full Disclosure: I am biased as I worked here fresh out of college, and I also ran a monthly Youth Poetry Series here. Tom Holbrook, the stores owner, is the most excellent boss anyone could hope to have who treats his staff like they are family with kindness, caring, empathy, and giving the push one needed to pursue their dreams without being creepy.
A cute small shop. Very friendly service. Spent way too much money here, LOL
I had a pretty blah experience here with one of the owners. I came in here looking for a Moleskin notebook, having had someone else recommend this place to me. I inquired about them and was told they didnt sell them. I asked if they used to sell them since another shop owner had sent me there and he told me they used to sell them and that he could order one for me, but that there are much better and cheaper options for quality notebooks out there. I inquired as to which kinds he meant but he wouldnt name any other brands. I didnt end up ordering through him since I felt he insulted my choice, which is a pretty poor customer service move. They may have a nice little book selection but the staff is rude.
One of my favorite bookstores to visit. I love the look of the store, it has a great vibe.
Great selection of used books to browse and buy. If you have kids with you watch their reaction to the collection of old typewriters!
Great independent bookstore. Helpful, friendly staff; great selection, great buys on top quality used books.
Friendly, helpful staff with a well-chosen collection of books, new and used.
Its a fine bookstore, but I prefer Book and Bar for used books. I dont usually buy new books, and River Run seems to specialize more in new books.
A very good bookshop with a well-curated inventory.
RiverRun is great ... good selection of books, and theyre always willing to order up if they dont have it in stock. Love the new store - its bright and convenient in downtown.
This is where I bought my first Harry Potter book, good prices and nice staff with a calm atmosphere.
The site was small, but had a good selection and a lot of gently used books for a discounted price.
Very knowledgeable, helpful staff.
Great small town bookstore with helpful staff and a great selection.
I bought a typewriter and it was in excellent condition!
Smallish selection. They have some cheap, used books which is nice.
Great Bookstore with readings and authors appearances.
Great local bookstore, unique selection
Cool reads
